The Table is great for what it is: a pay-by-weight, cafeteria-style vegetarian restaurant. If you come in expecting that, you will have a wonderful meal. When I started coming here about a decade ago, this restaurant was a peculiar sight for a barely up-and-coming area of town, but is now an anchor and a welcome respite in a re-developed area of town complete with condos and chain restaurants.
The food is always fresh, flavourful and nutritious. The menu doesn't really change, but there is enough variety on offer to keep the dishes from becoming tired and stale. I highly recommend the avocado salad. Smooth, buttery avocado complemented by a zingy lemon dressing. I crave it every time I return to Ottawa. The desserts are very good for what they area, which is usually vegan and often gluten-free. There are some tastes and textures that simply cannot be replicated with alternate ingredients, but their variations of chocolate cake and apple crisp come pretty close.
Even my mother, who loathes cafeterias and loves her steak, begrudgingly admits that the food here is quite good. The Table is actually a very good restaurant to bring non-vegetarians to, as they can sample many different items. If they don't like a particular dish, it's no big loss, and there are many non-tofu items on offer, which is what I find causes the most squeamishness from the meat-loving lot.
Despite the cafeteria style of the restaurant, the seating area is very nice, and I have never felt rushed to leave. The restaurant usually features local art for sale on the walls, and makes a nice backdrop for a post-dinner tea and good conversation. -

The Table is a "pay -your-weight", cafeteria and buffet style, vegetarian and vegan restaurants with many gluten free options. The seating is first come first serve.
The selection of dishes offered is similar to those seen at the Green Door, except less of them. The hot dishes are always changing and are generally delicious. Examples of options would be tofu stew, gluten free sweet potato pie, roasted vegetable, curried tofu, quinoa salad and other dishes. There's also a large salad bar and an extensive selection of deserts. They make these incredible ginger snaps! They are definitely worth trying!
My only gripe with the Table is that their price per gram is a little expensive. From my observations, a small to medium sized meal serving without desert it easily 10$ if not more. There's probably some way to "beat the scale" system to get the most bang for your buck, but I haven't figured it out, yet... -

Still expensive, but I do enjoy the enormous amount of gluten free options.

Very overpriced for what you get. Nothing special about it.

The more often I eat in Ottawa, the more I am reminded of how second-rate Le Commensal is in Toronto. Not fully vegan but ample choices to leave you sated. My must-haves here are:
- cold soba salad with celery and sesame seeds
- cold avocado salad with olive oil and lemon juice
- potato latkes with homemade onion chutney
- baked mashed potatoes
- chocolate cake
And guess what?! They also have condiments on the side; this allows people like me to go nuts on the vegan Parmesan cheese.
NOTE: You can have your dishes put on tab and pay at the end. Makes your visit a little more enjoyable and less cafeteria-like. -

Satisfies, every time!
From reverse-osmosis water, to offering Bytowne movie reviews (newspaper), to a nice quiet community-feeling ambience (complete with beautiful paintings from Canadian artists)... this place successfully pays attention to detail.
Some free vehicle parking; accessible by buses (off either the Wellington or Woodroffe's sides).
I love the potato + corn patties w/ onion sauce, and all the salad bar options, and of course the warm buffet options.
Prices are a little $, but I think it's worth it!
Also, ask if they still have a buffet stamp card. Where after 10 or 8 visits, you get $20 off your next meal...
Consistently nice owners, and wonderful chefs who seem to favour locavore flavours! :)Listed in: 5 *star* wonders

The food here is good, but way overpriced. It is a pay-by-weight buffet. I like to try a little bit of everything at a buffet, and that adds up quickly here! That is the main reason for taking off stars.
Otherwise, there is a good selection of vegan food and everything is clearly labelled indicating if it is vegan and/or gluten-free. Also I believe all of the ingredients are also posted in case you have an allergy. -

I love The Table. It is my go to Vegan restaurant. The food is served buffet style by weight. A typical meal with dessert is usually around $15 a person for myself and my husband.
The food is always delicious and fresh. I find it very flavourful w/o being extra salty. The spread is arranged by hot dishes, cold dishes, soup area, dessert tables and beverages. There is always a good mix of food and much of it is vegan. (All the dishes are labeled and have potential allergens listed). I believe they rotate the menu every 6 weeks so you don't really get tired of anything.
I have also ordered a vegan cake from here for my birthday and it was delicious!!
Highly recommended! -

Great vegetarian food, and I am as far from vegetarian as they come. I don't even mind that it's outrageously healthy for you. A great place to eat if nobody can agree what to get, as it's pay-by weight. It's very pleasant atmosphere.

My friend flew into town (boy, were his arms tired - ha!). Okay, anyway, he is a vegetarian and I wanted to make sure I took him somewhere with plenty of veggie-friendly options. I asked around and was directed to The Table on Wellington. It is a huge place with lots of seating. It has both a hot and cold buffet and has a dessert bar AND a salad bar (duh, it IS a vegetarian restaurant). Be careful with the contents of your plate though - everything is sold by weight! So, load up on lettuce and easy on the heavier vegetables! It is beautiful inside, with plenty of original works of art on the walls (all for sale, but pretty expensive - $4,000 for a painting, anyone??). Wellington is under construction here, so parking on the street is almost non-existant. There are pay-as-you-park lots aplenty, however!
