Review from Andy F.
The Sutton Place Hotel is a very comfortable place to be. The service is exceptional, the decor is traditional, and the location is great. I would have liked to see a proper paper newspaper on my doorstep each morning though. And frankly I am beginning to get tired of paying $15 a day for internet access. I'll pay $15 for one of your 1 oz. measured martinis, but when it comes to technology I somehow feel entitled to a free hookup. :)
The concierge desk is brilliant. We were able to eat anywhere we wanted in a couple hours' notice. The Spa is nice and although the pool is cozy it is a nice spot to hang out on a rainy Northwest day.
Everyone from the valet team to the housekeeping staff seem genuinely happy and focused on making the guest experience special and easy. There is very healthy competition at these rates, but Sutton Place continues to win our visits. -
Review from Mark H.
I stayed at The Sutton Place Hotel during a recent visit to Vancouver. It is for the most part a swell old hotel located in the heart of downtown making it easy to walk to a lot of interesting places.
However, I have to say that my experience at The Sutton Place was spoiled by my inability to sleep well in my room. I had a room that could adjoin to the room next door via a dividing door. Although this door was kept shut during my four nights at the hotel, I could hear everything going on in the room next door. Given that 2 of the 4 nights had loud parties going on (one a bachelor party, another a group of women cussing like sailors - wow), I got very little sleep. One party didn't die down until after 4 am. I should have asked for another room but had little time during my visit to pack up, move, unpack, etc.
I also have to say that paying for Internet service in a 4 star hotel is overreaching. The (expensive) room rate should include at least basic service given that it is a necessity for most business travelers. I believe an Internet connection at the hotel cost C$15/day.
On the positive side, the common areas at The Sutton Place Hotel are quite beautiful. The staff is friendly and helpful. The restaurant was good (although with not a very adventurous menu) and the bar had a good menu and decent drinks. The Japa Dog on the corner was pretty cool. -
Review from Faye C.
Not really a 5 star hotel.
The hotel lobby is really grand looking and has old world appeal. The reception was kind enough.
I got a good deal on hotwire, and decided to stay here to end a long weekend in Vancouver. I was unpleasantly surprised.
The location was excellent, right on Burrard, about a half block from Robson. Our view of the city was also quite nice.
The TV in the room wasn't working, and I called reception to have it looked at, they said they would send someone, and no one came. That was a bit disappointing, not that we would have spent a lot of time watching TV anyway.
The biggest let down was the bed - it was super uncomfortable and lumpy. The decor looked ok at first glance, but it was really falling apart.
Next time, I'm booking a Westin Hotel. Beds are important to me, this was a dismal disappointment. -
Review from Nancy R.
Thanks to Hotwire (and a savvy boyfriend), I am occasionally able to live like a Countess and enjoy the life for which I was really destined, ie, not using Groupons, see my previous review. :) Hotwire is responsible our past 3 luxo hotel stays in some of North America's most expensive cities. Basically, we enjoyed a 4-star stay for under $200 night and lived like rock stars for the weekend.
Perfect downtown location within walking distance to everything, including the SkyTrain and even a JapaDog cart on the corner. San Franciscans, I know we love our Bacon Dog Cart, but this is a serious contender, especially after late nights! Clean, good-sized jacuzzi and pool, even if there were a ton of kids in it.
I would definitely stay here again. Deducting one star for pricey WiFI access; I guess this is a business-hotel that assumes everyone is staying on an expense account... -
Review from Tara M.
My experience mirrors Frank E's. I'm rounding up from 3.5 stars.
We found a deal on Hotwire. We liked the location just a block from Robsen Street and found the room comfortable and the staff very helpful.
Parking was $40 per night - which didn't make the room rate as much of a deal - but we were there for just one night and were happy to be centrally located. -
Review from Linda L.
The room was clean, comfortable, and spacious. The staff were friendly and helpful. The wifi, which is not free, is really slow.
All in all, it was not stand out spectacular, but a pretty solid choice. -

We've stayed in allot of hotels - this one was a complete disappointment. The Lobby seemed grandeur, but that's where the show ended. Bed was as hard as nails with springs poking through; Coffee stains on the coffee pot...(really?) Small outdated television. We were quizzed why we wanted two extra pillows instead of one (for a couple on flat pillows?). No robe, limited towels, and if you want to make coffee in the morning you need to carry the coffee maker to the bathroom from a cupboard in the main room... Wow. To top it off - the have wireless network infrastructure in place - yet choose to charge for it at $15 a day - unbelievable. Really, for the $230 a night it didnt compare to rooms we have stayed in at 2.5 stars - that were far and above. Besides location - which isn't the best - this hotel was horrible. Wont be returning, found much nicer in the neighborhood.

Overall a good hotel.
It was a friends' idea to use Hotwire to book a BC hotel. I can't necessarily say I would go that route again because of the 'unknown' factor but we put in 5 stars and ended up here. The style is a bit more vintage but is well kept. Personally, more of a contemporary fan.
Overall, the staff is polite, the rooms were standard, location was awesome, parking was spendy. I would say go ahead and book here if the price is right.
Details:
Hotel ended up being around $130 a night through Hotwire. Good bargain and good walking and Taxi distance to anything in the area. There is a Joey's across the street for lunch/dinner and a market on the corner as well as Japadog which look awesome, but didn't have a chance to try one.
Parking is $40 a night so be prepared. There is a parking garage across the street but it ends up working out to be not that great because you don't have 24 access and ensure about leaving the car and the price. Valet is the same price as self-park. The rooms are a bit dated (no Ipod connecter, tube TV, older style).
I persnickety about duvet covers as hotels generally don't wash them. This hotel has the entire top as an unwashable cover. Seemed ok though.
The brunch appeared to be delicious but never tried it. The hotel reminds of a typical business hotel somewhat like a Marriott or a Hyatt. -

Nice facilities and perfect location.

You want posh and elegant on a trip to Vancouver? Then the Sutton Place Hotel provides the ideal response in many ways. The central downtown location on Burrard Street is perfect for anyone who wants to stroll along Robson Street for shopping or down a few blocks to the funkier Granville Street area. Hell, even the Japa Dog stand is on the corner. Terimayo dog, onegai shimasu.
We had no complaints about our King-size room at the end of the hallway on the 16th floor. It was beautifully appointed with a large bathroom and cable TV. My photos will show you the spectacular view we were able to enjoy from room 1626. The service is what you would expect from such a stylish hotel - impeccable from the front desk to the guys who bring the cars. It's predictably pricey, although Jamie W. and I were able to take advantage of a 48-hour special that gave us a daily rate of $189 (or $220 including taxes).
So did I have any complaints about the hotel itself? Well, I need to kvetch about the nickel-and-diming of extra services like WiFi access that costs $15 per day and the $30 overnight charge for parking. It just felt a bit petty for such an established, old-school hotel to add onto a bill paid by people who are probably stretching their budgets by staying there in the first place. That be me. Regardless, if you are in a splurgey mood for an extended weekend up north, this should definitely be a top consideration for you.Listed in: Vancouver, Victoria, Veni,…

Review from Tim H.
Several of us stayed here last week while we were visiting my favorite city in the world, Vancouver. It was our first visit to the Sutton, but won't be our last.
I was last in Vancouver in September, when I stayed at the Fairmont Hotel Vancouver, which is just down the street from the Sutton. What a difference! Didn't much like the Fairmont; loved the Sutton! Sure, the Sutton doesn't have the grand status the Fairmont has, but it has everything else that makes it a more comfortable place to stay, including rooms just as nice or better, more convenient parking, a good restaurant, and--most important--much nicer people working there. These people are nice and they smile at you like they mean it. I've never stayed at a hotel where the staff seemed so genuinely friendly. Maybe it's a big act, but who cares? I liked it.
Some of us stayed in the hotel proper and some of us stayed at the adjacent and attached "Grand Residence," which are suites with full kitchens and living rooms. Although our suite was clean and well maintained, it was beginning to show its age. I understand that some of the units have been updated. The rooms in the regular hotel are great, nice and roomy and very well furnished.
I understand that many of the film crews that work in BC stay here, and I can see why. The bar is supposed to be hopping late when they are in town!
The location is great, on Burrard just half a block off of Robson. There is a grocery store right across the street and Japa Dog is on the same block.
One complaint: the cost of parking. At $39 a night, it's no bargain. And the price is the same for either valet or self-parking. -
Review from Tam F.
As I am slowly working my way through our Vancouver reviews, and think it might be best to pick up with where we stayed.
This hotel offered an assortment of packages when I was planning our trip and had good reviews on Yelp, and most of all, the price was quite right (still expensive) and the best part was the location and how walkable most things were.
The only bummer was that if you booked the hotel for 5 or more nights you are automatically put into their "apartment living" side of the hotel. Suites that offer full kitchens and separate bedroom/living rooms. These rooms are fine and in their own part of the hotel, but the husband and I both felt they needed some updating. There were several flaws in the aethestics of the room from the toilet paper holder blocking a drawer in the bathroom to some typos in the room service menu. We had daily towel changes and clean up but not the "full cleaning" daily like the "real" hotel room have.
The package we had included either breakfast in the restaurant or from room service and we tried both. Room service was phenomenal for the one dinner we had the 6 of the 7 breakfasts we had.
The Concierge Services were fantastic and the two people we worked with were quite helpful. In fact, all the staff were extremely friendly.
The gift shop is more like a hole in the wall that closed at 6pm so one was out of luck in the hotel (no vending machines) if one would want say Peanut M&M's or a soda.
There is a full gym (larger than I have seen), an indoor pool and a hot tub. The hot tub was weird with the bubble button outside the whole pool area. Locker rooms are nice sized, saunas are in each and the spa is really nice. There is also a laundry room and soap, etc. can be purchased in the gift shop.
I really liked this hotel but I would make sure I stayed in the main hotel. -
Review from Craig H.
Fantastic hotel. It gets 5 stars from me. We stayed there before taking a cruise and it sure got us in the mood by proving exceptional service. From the bellhops and registration desk to the concierge, the friendliness and service was tremendous. The room was clean and comfortable. The concierge pave us maps of the city and advice on where to walk and shop and every employee we came into contact with was great.
The restaurant had one of the best breakfast buffets that I have ever had. The coffee was excellent and the food quality was top notch.
I doubt that there is a better hotel in the entire city. -
Review from Richard U.
Overall not a bad experience.
Staying in downtown Vancouver, you have many options. This place is pretty centrally located on Burrard street and about a 1/2 block from Robson street. Easily within walking distance of many cool things in the downtown area, translink buses and trains. The best location tip is that the Japadog stand sets up shop just down the street from here! yeah!
At $170 a night I felt like it wasn't outrageous considering the location. The interior is pretty standard, nothing too exceptional. Rooms are kind of on the small side. Wifi is not free and is on the pricey side. From what I recal something like $20 for 24 hours. They even charge to use the business center computers which I thought was a little lame. They do have a tiny work out facility attached to the Vida Spa and a pool on the Mezzanine floor. I felt that service was very friendly and helpful. The concierge was able to help us with tips on getting to places around town and giving us free downtown maps.
Seeing as Vancouver is the 'Hollywood' of Canada, I guess I shouldn't have been suprised to see Steven Segal walking around the lobby! -

Location was perfect: just off Robson, close to the train, Granville Island, Stanley Park etc.
Rooms were OK, a tad on the small side (we had 2 beds, could only get into them from one side, the other was right against the wall & window. Bathroom had no fan, so the mirrors were out of commission for a long time after a shower, and that really heated up the main living space. The TV was absolute garbage, barely worked at all, and the Wi-fi was quite expensive, even more so than I have paid in Banff. Also, the pool was closed for major repairs which was a major disappointment to learn only once we reached our room- a disclaimer on their website, or at least notice from the check-in desk would have been nice.
However, the beds were quite comfortable, and the staff was generally friendly & helpful. Ate at the Gerard Lounge, it was definitely nothing spectacular, nor was the Breakfast buffet. Small cafe attached to the front of the hotel did have delicious croissants however.
Generally, a good experience, but not at all outstanding. -

High tea at the Sutton place.
This is a beautiful hotel. The service goes above and beyond. High tea itself is a-ok! At $24 per person and open from 2:30pm - 5pm, they serve a delectable array of snacks perfect for both savory and sweets lovers. The ambiance is a bit dated and lacked natural sunlight.
There wasn't anything that stood out as "omg, this is the best thing ever" but overall a great experience. :) -
Review from Kai Y.
Stayed there for a few nights, right after I had a very unsatisfactory experience staying in Hyatt Vancouver that's a few blocks away from the Sutton Place. I was pleased that Sutton Place was at least meeting my expectation.
We got an upgrade so that we had a suite, which was quite nice. But I can tell the age of the hotel by their tubs and other facilities, though the room was clean. The noise in the streets was not blocked out completely, it might be hard to sleep if you're a light sleeper.
The location is quite convenient, since it's right at the center of downtown.
The breakfast buffet was very minimal. We ordered room service one night. The food was fine. We had a really good crab salad.
Overall, this place didn't suck, but it didn't stand out either. -
Review from tori b.
Price- good
Location- right in the middle of the action. 1 block from robson and close to the train. Most importantly it's right next to japa dog.
Service- good. Concierage is very accommodating. My flight out was later in the day so they held my bags for me and then gave me a key to the spa if I wanted to freshen up before leaving.
Room- just ok. Bathroom does not have a fan so it just stays misty in there for awhile. I was disappointed how noisy it is. At 5:30 am you can hear doors slamming a suitcases being wheeled down the hallways for 3 hours straight. If someone above you showers or flushes the toilet you can hear water leaking sounds for quite awhile....so my advice is bring ear plugs if you actually want to sleep. It's an old building so I imagine this is why it's noisy.
Didn't see any tv/movie stars roaming the hallway that I could recognize, but they were definitely there.
I really liked the bar...
This hotel was ok for price and location. -
Review from Shert B.
Stayed here for just one night on my spouse's and my mini 2-day post Xmas vacation. We drove up from Seattle, and the number one advantage of this hotel is: Location, location, location! Right on Burrard and Robson, it is an excellent location to be able to walk out of the lobby and find tons of shops, restaurants, cafes, etc.
The hotel does have a nice feel. It was beautifully decorated for Xmas, with lots of holiday trees, each with a different color and theme. The weather was gray and rainy, and they offered nice size complimentary umbrellas. There was Valet parking, a beautiful lobby, and the staff were all very friendly and helpful.
Our room was nice and clean. We had a flat screen TV, but changing the channels took great patience.. like a 20 second delay to change the channel each time. Neither of us liked the full size mirror on the back of the bathroom door-- so you could watch yourself sitting on the john!
We brought our swimsuits, as we wanted to use the pool, steam room and sauna. Turns out that didn't work out too well for me. First, you had to go through the LOBBY to get to the pool (which I would never want to do unless I was fully dressed in street clothes- I prefer places you can put your suit on in your ROOM, slap on a robe and go find the pool); 2) The dressing room for the pool is one level up from the pool itself; and 3), there were lots of steps going down to the pool. I am somewhat handicapped, so stairs don't work well for me. I just skipped it, but was disappointed not to have a sauna.
The room was nice and quiet, and offered a nice view of downtown Vancouver, and many holiday lights.
In the AM we intended to eat at the buffet, but just missed it, so ended up ordering off the menu. Breakfast was very expensive, for very ordinary food, but it was convenient and again-- the staff were very nice and friendly.
Overall, it was a very nice stay, great staff and a very convenient location. We would definnitely come back. -
Review from Evangelos G.
I love visiting Vancouver with friends and highly recommend the Sutton place. First it's classy and traditional. Secondly, this is the best location in Vancouver, in my opinion, in the very heart of the city within a few minutes walk to anything. Yes, it's an older hotel and not uber-modern or sleek, but that is compensated for by the old world elegance.

Chocolate anyone? Screw the fact that this is pretty much the best hotel in Vancouver...have you heard about their Chocoholic Buffet? They actually call it that. If you're addicted to Chocohol this is the place where your dreams will come true.
Its all-you-can eat, and if you don't mind getting early onset diabetes I highly recommend it. The Buffet itself offers as they put it, "an array of home made luscious cakes, pastries and pies, exquisite sorbets and ice creams, topped only by the Bar's own renowned Brittany crêpe." I tried the crepes and they were pretty damn good, but the sorbets are where it's at.
I went through some serious chocolate withdrawals after eating here, but only because it was so good. It's only $26/person from Thursday - Saturday after 6 and you have to make reservations...but it's TOTALLY worth it. -
Review from Chris E.
The Sutton Place Hotel in Vancouver is pretty much the gem of all the hotels in the city. It's located in the heart of downtown, making it walking distance from all of the shops, boutiques, and restaurants.
As you enter the driveway, you are greeted by impeccable service and the utmost courtesy. As a young professional, I often encounter the question of, "Oh, are you here with your parents?" I did not get any of this here. From check in to check out, they treated me as a valued guest.
The rooms are superbly clean and spacious. The Sutton Place Hotel provides the highest quality in British amenities and toiletries for you to use as well.
All in all, if you are in Vancouver, be sure to make a reservation at the Sutton Place. While it maybe a bit on the pricey side, the quality and service you get is remarkable. -
Review from amy t.
This is a beautiful hotel in a convenient location only a couple of blocks from Robertson where the shopping is and walking distance to the water taxis.
The room was extremely comfortable with all of the luxuries of a posh hotel. Friendly service and the pricing we got through Celebrity Cruise lines after our cruise to Alaska was fairly reasonable.
This is also apparently where the celebs stay when in town filming.
The next time we go to Vancouver, I'd be happy if we could stay here again. -
Review from Brendan C.
If you like convenience, comfort and class then this is your hotel. My fiance and I stayed here the week after Thanksgiving. This was my second time in Vancouver and I preferred this hotel over the previous one I stayed at, which coincidentally was about a block and a half away from the Sutton.
We took the SkyTrain direct from the airport into the city and that was a huge convenience. You'll save yourself a good amount in cab fare by doing the SkyTrain. The downtown station was about a 10 minute walk from the hotel so it took us no time at all to walk to the hotel.
As you walk up, you can feel the old school charm of the hotel. The lobby was beautifully decorated with numerous Christmas trees and other holiday fare. It was warm and cozy, just the way a hotel should feel when you first enter.
We checked in and went up to our room on the 12th floor. Previous reviews mentioned the thin walls but we lucked out because they put us in a room all the way at the end of the hall. The corner room offered us 2 different views of the city which was simply stunning. The room itself was a bit small but definitely cozy. The bathroom was a good size and the king sized bed was extremely comfortable. Although the hotel didn't have one of those newer flat screen televisions, it did have an in-room DVD player which was very convenient. We had brought along several movies to watch on our laptop so the DVD player was a huge bonus.
The staff was extremely friendly and helpful, and the overall feel of the hotel was fantastic. The location was probably the major selling point because it's right next to Robson St. which contains tons of restaurants and shopping. You're also pretty centralized in downtown and you can technically walk anywhere. There's also a grocery store on the corner for snacks and drinks without diving into the wet bar or basket of expensive hotel goodies. And if you want a great nighttime snack, there's even a Japa Dog stand on the corner. You have not lived until you've had a Japa Dog!
Our stay at the Sutton was fantastic and we would definitely stay here again. -
Review from Gavin N.
Family was in town for Christmas Vacation and they always wanted to see Canada....so why not take a nice short trip up to Vancouver. Anyway we decided to stay at Sutton Place Hotel it appeared to have a good location on the Internet, decent rates, looked nice etc. Not to mention they had a great deal which included free parking and breakfast each day we stayed there. Works for me.
It must have been a slower day when we were there because for some reason my parents room (even though we booked two standard connecting rooms) was some kind of suite with it's own living room. While "the kids room" was just standard. It's okay...to tell you the truth we actually felt like we were in a house. Our parents had their own separate bed room, we had some kind of living room with a 42" LCD TV to hang out and watch movies, and a kids room to well...destroy.
The hotel is a 4 diamond hotel, so it's actually very nice inside (although the lobby is quite small). Service is top notch in just about all areas including phone customer service, front desk, concierge, bell hops, room service, as well as at the Fleuri restaurant (where you get your free breakfast). Extra props to the concierge for actually make awesome recommendations on good Chinese restaurants that weren't gwai lo, and to the host at Fleuri for having some kind of question of the day that was a fun way to start each morning.
Pool was a nice indoor with a jacuzzi, and the fitness room had enough things to get a decent workout in during the morning before a day of debauchery. As for the location, the hotel is right across the street from an AWESOME movie theater, and is right on the corner of Robson street. So awesome shopping.
The next time I visit Vancouver I will definitely consider The Sutton Place hotel. Although next time I may stay in the residence tower as opposed to the hotel tower as I would most likely be going with friends as opposed to parents.

Review from Brice B.
The belle and I decided to do a pre-Olympics visit to Vancouver, BC, and we got a smokin' deal at the Sutton Place. When we saw that it was ground central for the Hollywood North crowd, we were totally stoked.
The staff here was completely helpful, and the location is perfect. It's right in the middle of the action. The rooms are not huge, but well appointed, and the views are awesome. They feature Gilchrist and Soames products, which doesn't hurt. It's also worth mentioning that the bar on the 1st floor, Gerard, is all class without being too pretentious.
This is actually a 4.5 star hotel, but I can't throw out the 5 stars here. The bathroom was nice enough, but there was definitely some poor craftsmanship that went into a recent renovation. The faucet in the bath felt like it was barely attached to the tile. Furthermore, a group of wild-ass Canadian partiers invaded our floor and unscrewed all of the lightbulbs. Sounds like fun, but c'mon... security?
Small stuff notwithstanding, this place is awesome. If you can score a room, you should do so without hesitation. -
Review from Dolores T.
Back in September of 2007 I took my second road trip up the west coast to see two bands play 4 shows in 5 days. The first time we went to Vancouver we didn't stay, this time, we were lucky enough to have a friend comp the room through her work. Under normal circumstances, I would be staying at a Best Western.
Room service was top notch. They had amazing vegetarian options that were both unique and appetizing.
Hospitality was superb. The staff was engaging and on point.
The ambiance of the rooms and the hotel were what was most appealing. The restaurant was open and tranquil, the lounge was inviting and beautiful. Our room had an amazing view of the city below (Robson Blvd) and the waterfront not to far away. -
Review from Diane M.
I spent 5 nights at this hotel and I must say that the location is absolutely fabulous! Robson street which is full of great shops/restaurants was right around the corner, there was a Blendz coffee across the street and a Japa dog cart parked almost right in front of the hotel. What more can a girl ask for? Everyone was super friendly and helpful. So after reading all of this why the 4 stars you ask? Well, we had a couple of issues. First of all, the way overpriced internet just stopped working day 2 and after several phone calls, them sending someone to check it out, it came back on maybe twice during the next 3 days i was there and only for a short time so needless to say I was pretty frustrated that I could not get wifi that we were paying for. They did offer us a partial refund but I would have much rather had internet versus a refund. Also, there was one night that the TV would not turn on and there answer was well the maintenance guy went home at 5. Really!? How can such a high end hotel not have someone around the clock to fix these types of issues. Luckily my bf somehow managed to fix it. Overall, I still think it's a great hotel despite these 2 issues. The location is great and everyone is super friendly and helpful (besides the 2 issues I mentioned.)

Spent a romantic vacation for our anniversary and the staff there did all they can to make it perfect.
-Location was great. Right on Robson street. Middle of the action.
-Their service was awesome. If you are visiting, their concierge service makes it convenient. they have cards with driving directions to everything you would want to do printed on it.
-rooms were nice and clean, spacious and the bathroom had a tub and shower.
I wanted a top notch experience and got it. they have an awesome indoor pool for excercise and a good size gym. We bumped into Lou Diamond Phillips working out.
they have the cholocate lovers buffet which is amazing and a great spa.
an awesome hotel that you can't go wrong with. -

Definitely an old school style hotel that believes service is achieved by lots of friendly staff. I won't argue.
The rooms are clean, spacious and I'm a sucker for the chocolates on the bed. The location is very convenient, centrally located. -

It's a great hotel, centrally located, prestigious, classy, walkable to everything - a tourist's dream.
I've stayed here once for a three nights and really enjoyed it (2006). You can't go wrong with The Sutton Place Hotel.
We stayed here because my husband got a discount using his Starwood Points. I personally don't like staying in downtown Vancouver - parking is $20/day and driving in and out of downtown is a hassle.
However for first time tourists, I think it's a great hotel to stay at. You probably don't need a car for your whole stay but if you do, Budget is close by. Also public transportation is pretty handy, too.
I'd stay there again, but only if we get a good deal using Starwood Points. -

Vancouver, BC
Its Friday night 9ish and i need a suite to entertain some out of town guests -very last min.
Called to find out what was available and was told absolutely nothing.
The good-
Checked online and found a suite with separate bedroom , king sized bed for $199. (so much for being booked up completely!)
Checked in with ease - staff was friendly enough and check in was prompt.
Suite was HUGE clean and very impressive.
The bad-
Internet was Nonworking (or so i thought ) until i found out it was an additional 14.95!! I really think its in poor taste to not have complimentary internet .
The morning paper which was offered for free never came
The mini bar wasn't anything to write home about and when i went to indulge in the Toblerone it was completely melted (not needing it for a fondue i passed)
oh
and only one of our guests showed up - but he was so drunk that he proceeded to get naked and try to have a 3 way with me and my gf.
to which we promptly asked him to leave (with clothes on ) -

I really enjoy the annual holiday festivities that take place here, a charity event where guests vote for their favorite decorated Xmas trees by donating . Silly perhaps, but I love it.
As for the hotel, try the dining room. Wonderful. Try the pool, it's usually empty. Try the concierge, but in a good way. Very helpful.
Once in a while you'll find a ridiculously low rate on various sites. Grab it. A first class experience. The hotel I mean, not the grabbing. -
Review from Melissa M.
Sutton Place was a wonderful hotel to stay at. The location is perfect. You are across the street from a movie theatre (that my husband were able to go to before dinner one evening). You are also located close to great restaurants and shopping. We walked to everything and it took no more than 5 minutes to get to a breakfast place and to dinner. The area seems very safe (even though there was a drug bust down the street one evening).
Our room was beautiful. We had a two room suite. The flat screen TVs were a nice touch. The beds are extremely comfortable, and you get a great view of the city from many of the rooms. The elevator wasn't always fast, but it was a very very busy time when we were there.
The place is a celeb hang out. I don't gawk at celebrities, but they seemed to be everywhere. Burt Reynolds was standing behind me in the concierge line. James Cromwell was checking in as we were leaving. Even Dan Cloutier was in the lobby. It was quite the scene. The nice thing, everyone left the famous people alone and just did their own thing.
The lobby of the hotel could be bigger. If you are meeting friends and family there to go out or whatever, there is no where to sit and wait.
Overall the hotel is great, but the best part is the location!!! -

As a Canadian this hotel met my expectations. Sure, it's not LA or Vegas (thank god). There are compact cars and pick-up trucks in the circular drive and the staff aren't going to treat you like a celebrity.
The basic rooms (or "entry level" as I like to call it) are not terribly exciting. The upgrade to a suite wasn't too dear and the experience was like entering a completely different hotel. My rule of thumb for booking any kind of luxury travel is to always look at the full range of options and then book something one or two notches up from the lowest price point. This hotel is a perfect example of why you should do that.
My only gripe was that internet service was really bad. We couldn't get either of our laptops to pick up their wireless and the broadband through the provided ethernet was dial-up speed. This is a good place to holiday but a bit of a pain for a working trip. -

Three of my girlfriends and I made a weekend getaway trip to Vancouver, B.C. for couple of their birthdays and stayed on the 17th floor at the Sutton Place Hotel in Downtown Vancouver. The hotel was in a great location, centrally located to Robson Street (the shopping mecha) and coffeehouses, and restaurants. The hotel amentities were great, they had a day spa in the hotel, pool, fitness room (which was equipped with a few exercise bikes, treadmills, free weights and weight machines but only one elliptical), and a really nice coffee/mini store inside the hotel area.
Overall, I really enjoyed the hotel. It is fairly pricey though at about $500 for two nights, so be on the watch for any promos and deals. We also got hit with a $40 a day charge for the car storage in the garage and also additional person charge since you can only have up to two people in the rooms.(which was not told to us at the time of reservation) The charge for additional persons was like $7 more a person. So in essence, expect to pay $600 for two nights with tax.
The staff was more than helpful and really courteous.
If I could get in with a deal, I would definitely stay there again. We had a great time in the city! -

The Sutton Place is conveniently located in downtown Vancouver, just around the corner from the fabulous downtown shopping street, Robson Street. The hotel offers an old European charm with modern facilities like Wi-Fi, flat screen TV in the guest rooms, a full service spa, fitness center and pool.
The rooms are comfortable, spacious and come with his and her robes, a safe for your valuables, and an umbrella for those unpredictable Vancouver weather. We stayed 5 nights at the Sutton and felt very pampered by the superb services we received from its hotel personnel at the front desk, concierge, housekeeping and restaurant.
The hotel's restaurant, Gerrard offers a mean chocolate buffet on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays and is one not to be missed. The price is C$20 per person and you get to indulge in all things chocolate and they even have a crepe station where your crepe is made to order. Reservation to the chocolate buffet is required. -
