We stayed here for 2 days over the holidays and were pretty excited about it considering it was listed as a 5 star hotel. After staying here I can this is truly a 5 star hotel.
Can too much service be a negative thing? Everyone at the hotel goes above and beyond to make your stay memorable. The concierge guys are amazingly helpful. I'm confident if you needed anything they would do their best to take care of it. I saw them find a rental call for a couple and called every single agency on their behalf to find availability.
The location of this hotel might be the best in Vancouver. 1 block away from Robson street which has tons of shopping and restaurant options. With the new public transit upgrades made for the olympics you can pretty much take the sky train directly from the airport to the hotel.
As with a lot of expensive hotels the price of everything is ridiculous. $30 for parking. $6 for bottled water in the room. $15 for internet access and they do not even have free access in the library. Not hard to get around all of those charges by just going outside the hotel and finding parking on the street and hitting up the many coffee shops around for internet.
Overall if you get a chance to stay here don't pass it up. Its a guaranteed great experience.
As I am slowly working my way through our Vancouver reviews, and think it might be best to pick up with where we stayed.
This hotel offered an assortment of packages when I was planning our trip and had good reviews on Yelp, and most of all, the price was quite right (still expensive) and the best part was the location and how walkable most things were.
The only bummer was that if you booked the hotel for 5 or more nights you are automatically put into their "apartment living" side of the hotel. Suites that offer full kitchens and separate bedroom/living rooms. These rooms are fine and in their own part of the hotel, but the husband and I both felt they needed some updating. There were several flaws in the aethestics of the room from the toilet paper holder blocking a drawer in the bathroom to some typos in the room service menu. We had daily towel changes and clean up but not the "full cleaning" daily like the "real" hotel room have.
The package we had included either breakfast in the restaurant or from room service and we tried both. Room service was phenomenal for the one dinner we had the 6 of the 7 breakfasts we had.
The Concierge Services were fantastic and the two people we worked with were quite helpful. In fact, all the staff were extremely friendly.
The gift shop is more like a hole in the wall that closed at 6pm so one was out of luck in the hotel (no vending machines) if one would want say Peanut M&M's or a soda.
There is a full gym (larger than I have seen), an indoor pool and a hot tub. The hot tub was weird with the bubble button outside the whole pool area. Locker rooms are nice sized, saunas are in each and the spa is really nice. There is also a laundry room and soap, etc. can be purchased in the gift shop.
I really liked this hotel but I would make sure I stayed in the main hotel.
High tea at the Sutton place.
This is a beautiful hotel. The service goes above and beyond. High tea itself is a-ok! At $24 per person and open from 2:30pm - 5pm, they serve a delectable array of snacks perfect for both savory and sweets lovers. The ambiance is a bit dated and lacked natural sunlight.
There wasn't anything that stood out as "omg, this is the best thing ever" but overall a great experience. :)
Overall not a bad experience.
Staying in downtown Vancouver, you have many options. This place is pretty centrally located on Burrard street and about a 1/2 block from Robson street. Easily within walking distance of many cool things in the downtown area, translink buses and trains. The best location tip is that the Japadog stand sets up shop just down the street from here! yeah!
At $170 a night I felt like it wasn't outrageous considering the location. The interior is pretty standard, nothing too exceptional. Rooms are kind of on the small side. Wifi is not free and is on the pricey side. From what I recal something like $20 for 24 hours. They even charge to use the business center computers which I thought was a little lame. They do have a tiny work out facility attached to the Vida Spa and a pool on the Mezzanine floor. I felt that service was very friendly and helpful. The concierge was able to help us with tips on getting to places around town and giving us free downtown maps.
Seeing as Vancouver is the 'Hollywood' of Canada, I guess I shouldn't have been suprised to see Steven Segal walking around the lobby!
I was surprised, after entering the room, that the hotel was considered a 4- or 5-star hotel. Really??
First, let me name the things that make the hotel nice:
- Beautiful lobby
- Great views from the windows
- Decent customer service
- The housekeeping staff was friendly
Then the things that make the hotel mediocre:
- They kept calling my travel companion (male) by my last name, even though the reservation/registration clearly states that we don't share a last name.
- The housekeeping was mediocre. I observed that they didn't do much day-to-day, as we stayed for four or five days.
- Paying for wi-fi in the room... which was expensive.
And the things that make the hotel not-so-good:
- The room was not properly cleaned. On my first entry to the bathroom, I noticed long hairs on the bathtub area and surrounding areas. Clearly, the housekeeper hadn't washed the shower/bath after the last guest checked out.
- Room service was kind of lame. We didn't ask for food; we only asked for utentils. On the second round, I asked for a spoon and a fork. They brought forks and knives. It's pretty tough eating pudding with a fork, I tell ya.
It was a good experience overall with no major complaints, but it falls short of a 4-star or 5-star in my opinion. The building exterior and the grand lobby convey sufficiently for such a rating, but the rooms and the maintenance don't.
The belle and I decided to do a pre-Olympics visit to Vancouver, BC, and we got a smokin' deal at the Sutton Place. When we saw that it was ground central for the Hollywood North crowd, we were totally stoked.
The staff here was completely helpful, and the location is perfect. It's right in the middle of the action. The rooms are not huge, but well appointed, and the views are awesome. They feature Gilchrist and Soames products, which doesn't hurt. It's also worth mentioning that the bar on the 1st floor, Gerard, is all class without being too pretentious.
This is actually a 4.5 star hotel, but I can't throw out the 5 stars here. The bathroom was nice enough, but there was definitely some poor craftsmanship that went into a recent renovation. The faucet in the bath felt like it was barely attached to the tile. Furthermore, a group of wild-ass Canadian partiers invaded our floor and unscrewed all of the lightbulbs. Sounds like fun, but c'mon... security?
Small stuff notwithstanding, this place is awesome. If you can score a room, you should do so without hesitation.
Great location and classy hotel. The location is probably one of the best in downtown Vancouver, besides Hyatt Regency.
Its Friday night 9ish and i need a suite to entertain some out of town guests -very last min.
Called to find out what was available and was told absolutely nothing.
The good-
Checked online and found a suite with separate bedroom , king sized bed for $199. (so much for being booked up completely!)
Checked in with ease - staff was friendly enough and check in was prompt.
Suite was HUGE clean and very impressive.
The bad-
Internet was Nonworking (or so i thought ) until i found out it was an additional 14.95!! I really think its in poor taste to not have complimentary internet .
The morning paper which was offered for free never came
The mini bar wasn't anything to write home about and when i went to indulge in the Toblerone it was completely melted (not needing it for a fondue i passed)
oh
and only one of our guests showed up - but he was so drunk that he proceeded to get naked and try to have a 3 way with me and my gf.
to which we promptly asked him to leave (with clothes on )
Back in September of 2007 I took my second road trip up the west coast to see two bands play 4 shows in 5 days. The first time we went to Vancouver we didn't stay, this time, we were lucky enough to have a friend comp the room through her work. Under normal circumstances, I would be staying at a Best Western.
Room service was top notch. They had amazing vegetarian options that were both unique and appetizing.
Hospitality was superb. The staff was engaging and on point.
The ambiance of the rooms and the hotel were what was most appealing. The restaurant was open and tranquil, the lounge was inviting and beautiful. Our room had an amazing view of the city below (Robson Blvd) and the waterfront not to far away.
As a Canadian this hotel met my expectations. Sure, it's not LA or Vegas (thank god). There are compact cars and pick-up trucks in the circular drive and the staff aren't going to treat you like a celebrity.
The basic rooms (or "entry level" as I like to call it) are not terribly exciting. The upgrade to a suite wasn't too dear and the experience was like entering a completely different hotel. My rule of thumb for booking any kind of luxury travel is to always look at the full range of options and then book something one or two notches up from the lowest price point. This hotel is a perfect example of why you should do that.
My only gripe was that internet service was really bad. We couldn't get either of our laptops to pick up their wireless and the broadband through the provided ethernet was dial-up speed. This is a good place to holiday but a bit of a pain for a working trip.
We stayed at the Sutton Place over Memorial Day weekend 2007. From the moment we arrived, the staff were wonderful! The concierge gentlemen were phenomenal, and were spot-on at recommending places to go and things to see. I appreciated that they gave more than one route to get to a place. For example, we wanted to go to the Granville Island Public Market one morning. David, I believe, said that we could take a taxi and it would get us right there. He then said, for a more interesting and scenic way, to walk down the street behind the hotel property to the False Creek Ferry and take that to the market. We decided on that route, and it was fantastic! Also, we wanted to get gelato one night. He recommended Mondo Gelato on Robson, and even phoned them to make sure they were still open. Such great service...they went above and beyond!
The location of the hotel was splendid. It was right in the middle of all the action, and you can walk to most attractions. Robson Street is just around the corner, Granville Island is a 15 minute walk and ferry away, Gastown is a good 20 minute walk, and so on.
The hotel property itself is beautiful. The lobby area is lovely. Another feature of the hotel to note is that you can print most boarding passes in the business center. Just swipe your key to get in, and head to the kiosk to print. We did encounter a problem in printing, but went to the concierge and they printed it for us at their computer. Again, great service! We did have breakfast one morning in the hotel restaurant...it was good, but on the expensive side. Would recommend walking around the corner to Robson and finding a restaurant there. Also, we had a drink in the hotel bar one afternoon. Drinks were good, but it was $15 for a Belvedere Cosmo, which is more than most places. The actor Laurence Fishburne was staying at our hotel for the Police reunion concert, and he was at the bar. Apparently, a lot of celebs prefer the Sutton as their Vancouver hotel of choice!
Our room at the Sutton was very tastefully decorated, though a tad small for 2 people. We weren't in the room much, so this wasn't a problem for us. The bathroom was large, with separate shower and tub. Toiletries were Gilchrist and Soames, and they were nice. The view from the hotel was great! We could see the mountains and ocean in the corner. The windows are floor to ceiling and really lovely.
Sutton Place was a wonderful hotel to stay at. The location is perfect. You are across the street from a movie theatre (that my husband were able to go to before dinner one evening). You are also located close to great restaurants and shopping. We walked to everything and it took no more than 5 minutes to get to a breakfast place and to dinner. The area seems very safe (even though there was a drug bust down the street one evening).
Our room was beautiful. We had a two room suite. The flat screen TVs were a nice touch. The beds are extremely comfortable, and you get a great view of the city from many of the rooms. The elevator wasn't always fast, but it was a very very busy time when we were there.
The place is a celeb hang out. I don't gawk at celebrities, but they seemed to be everywhere. Burt Reynolds was standing behind me in the concierge line. James Cromwell was checking in as we were leaving. Even Dan Cloutier was in the lobby. It was quite the scene. The nice thing, everyone left the famous people alone and just did their own thing.
The lobby of the hotel could be bigger. If you are meeting friends and family there to go out or whatever, there is no where to sit and wait.
Overall the hotel is great, but the best part is the location!!!
Chocolate anyone? Screw the fact that this is pretty much the best hotel in Vancouver...have you heard about their Chocoholic Buffet? They actually call it that. If you're addicted to Chocohol this is the place where your dreams will come true.
Its all-you-can eat, and if you don't mind getting early onset diabetes I highly recommend it. The Buffet itself offers as they put it, "an array of home made luscious cakes, pastries and pies, exquisite sorbets and ice creams, topped only by the Bar's own renowned Brittany crêpe." I tried the crepes and they were pretty damn good, but the sorbets are where it's at.
I went through some serious chocolate withdrawals after eating here, but only because it was so good. It's only $26/person from Thursday - Saturday after 6 and you have to make reservations...but it's TOTALLY worth it.
The Sutton Place is conveniently located in downtown Vancouver, just around the corner from the fabulous downtown shopping street, Robson Street. The hotel offers an old European charm with modern facilities like Wi-Fi, flat screen TV in the guest rooms, a full service spa, fitness center and pool.
The rooms are comfortable, spacious and come with his and her robes, a safe for your valuables, and an umbrella for those unpredictable Vancouver weather. We stayed 5 nights at the Sutton and felt very pampered by the superb services we received from its hotel personnel at the front desk, concierge, housekeeping and restaurant.
The hotel's restaurant, Gerrard offers a mean chocolate buffet on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays and is one not to be missed. The price is C$20 per person and you get to indulge in all things chocolate and they even have a crepe station where your crepe is made to order. Reservation to the chocolate buffet is required.
Family was in town for Christmas Vacation and they always wanted to see Canada....so why not take a nice short trip up to Vancouver. Anyway we decided to stay at Sutton Place Hotel it appeared to have a good location on the Internet, decent rates, looked nice etc. Not to mention they had a great deal which included free parking and breakfast each day we stayed there. Works for me.
It must have been a slower day when we were there because for some reason my parents room (even though we booked two standard connecting rooms) was some kind of suite with it's own living room. While "the kids room" was just standard. It's okay...to tell you the truth we actually felt like we were in a house. Our parents had their own separate bed room, we had some kind of living room with a 42" LCD TV to hang out and watch movies, and a kids room to well...destroy.
The hotel is a 4 diamond hotel, so it's actually very nice inside (although the lobby is quite small). Service is top notch in just about all areas including phone customer service, front desk, concierge, bell hops, room service, as well as at the Fleuri restaurant (where you get your free breakfast). Extra props to the concierge for actually make awesome recommendations on good Chinese restaurants that weren't gwai lo, and to the host at Fleuri for having some kind of question of the day that was a fun way to start each morning.
Pool was a nice indoor with a jacuzzi, and the fitness room had enough things to get a decent workout in during the morning before a day of debauchery. As for the location, the hotel is right across the street from an AWESOME movie theater, and is right on the corner of Robson street. So awesome shopping.
The next time I visit Vancouver I will definitely consider The Sutton Place hotel. Although next time I may stay in the residence tower as opposed to the hotel tower as I would most likely be going with friends as opposed to parents.

This is a beautiful hotel in a convenient location only a couple of blocks from Robertson where the shopping is and walking distance to the water taxis.
The room was extremely comfortable with all of the luxuries of a posh hotel. Friendly service and the pricing we got through Celebrity Cruise lines after our cruise to Alaska was fairly reasonable.
This is also apparently where the celebs stay when in town filming.
The next time we go to Vancouver, I'd be happy if we could stay here again.
Spent a romantic vacation for our anniversary and the staff there did all they can to make it perfect.
-Location was great. Right on Robson street. Middle of the action.
-Their service was awesome. If you are visiting, their concierge service makes it convenient. they have cards with driving directions to everything you would want to do printed on it.
-rooms were nice and clean, spacious and the bathroom had a tub and shower.
I wanted a top notch experience and got it. they have an awesome indoor pool for excercise and a good size gym. We bumped into Lou Diamond Phillips working out.
they have the cholocate lovers buffet which is amazing and a great spa.
an awesome hotel that you can't go wrong with.
Definitely an old school style hotel that believes service is achieved by lots of friendly staff. I won't argue.
The rooms are clean, spacious and I'm a sucker for the chocolates on the bed. The location is very convenient, centrally located.
We stayed at the Sutton One bedroom (La Grande) residence during New Years Eve. The location is excellent and the service is great. A balcony with a nice view, walk-in closets, kitchen, comfy couches and dining table are all included in the residence.
We got the bed and breakfast package which included the West Coast breakfast for us with delivery fees and tips included. They brought a table up to our room and served our breakfast hot in mere minutes. They took the table away when we were finished in good time as well. In addition, the staff left us a couple of chocolates and a card with the weather forecast for the next day after we stepped out.
Like any good hotel, it includes the use of a nice robe and has some nice features such as a 50" flat screen. It also comes with an umbrella which is nice for wet Vancouver weather and saves the inconvenience of bringing your own.
The only real complaint I would be the parking situation. Although valet service is included for free, it's hard to enter the entry area when it's busy and the staff didn't inform us of parking validation when we checked out. This caused a few minute delay when leaving the parking area. I'd recommend just using the valet service instead of the self parking option. A minor complaint would be the lack of decor between the lobby and the elevators going up to the residences, it's quite barren.
The Sutton Place Hotel in Vancouver is pretty much the gem of all the hotels in the city. It's located in the heart of downtown, making it walking distance from all of the shops, boutiques, and restaurants.
As you enter the driveway, you are greeted by impeccable service and the utmost courtesy. As a young professional, I often encounter the question of, "Oh, are you here with your parents?" I did not get any of this here. From check in to check out, they treated me as a valued guest.
The rooms are superbly clean and spacious. The Sutton Place Hotel provides the highest quality in British amenities and toiletries for you to use as well.
All in all, if you are in Vancouver, be sure to make a reservation at the Sutton Place. While it maybe a bit on the pricey side, the quality and service you get is remarkable.
attended a dinner meeting here for about 50 guests.. hotel is pretty nice.. for valet its $15 but in the parkade its $9 for parking
they served a set menu.. salad, chicken and a rhubarb crumble with a scoop of vanilla bean ice cream
food was actually pretty good.. they ran out of dishes cuz more people showed up than they expected, so those people got a vegetarian pasta dish and a fruit platter respectively
service was really good too
this place is close to burrard skytrain as well in case you want to take transit
It's a great hotel, centrally located, prestigious, classy, walkable to everything - a tourist's dream.
I've stayed here once for a three nights and really enjoyed it (2006). You can't go wrong with The Sutton Place Hotel.
We stayed here because my husband got a discount using his Starwood Points. I personally don't like staying in downtown Vancouver - parking is $20/day and driving in and out of downtown is a hassle.
However for first time tourists, I think it's a great hotel to stay at. You probably don't need a car for your whole stay but if you do, Budget is close by. Also public transportation is pretty handy, too.
I'd stay there again, but only if we get a good deal using Starwood Points.
I really liked this hotel. Got the free *ahem $20* upgrade to a suite. Excellent downtown location in the heart of the Robson/Downtown Vancouver.
Nicely decorated, service was top-notch. I got an incredible rate too. Note to management: If I could pull that rate off every time I'll give you 5 stars!
I really enjoy the annual holiday festivities that take place here, a charity event where guests vote for their favorite decorated Xmas trees by donating . Silly perhaps, but I love it.
As for the hotel, try the dining room. Wonderful. Try the pool, it's usually empty. Try the concierge, but in a good way. Very helpful.
Once in a while you'll find a ridiculously low rate on various sites. Grab it. A first class experience. The hotel I mean, not the grabbing.
Walked in for a cocktail after visiting a local restaurant. Great atmosphere. Ordered a Moscow Mule. Pretty strong. Lots of candle-light. Good place to bring a date - if you have expectations for later.
Loooovvvee this Hotel. It's in a centrally located area close to shopping and activities. Easy to find a cab.
Beautiful room. Wonderful service-oriented and well trained staff. Friendly and helpful.
Glad we made the decision on this place.
Definitely worth it!!!!!!!
Really now, 5 star? LOL. If President Obama came to Vancouver and stayed at a 5 star, is this where he would come, LOL. NOT.
According to some friends and websites, this is supposedly the only 5 star hotel in Vancouver. From the exterior, it appears that way, with the decor, and fancy cars parked out front. The lobby is elegant, if you are in to that stuff.
The room that we stayed in was a lot smaller than I imagined, and alot more run down than I expected. Bathroom had a stand in shower and seperate tub, with mildewing ceilings. Our towel rack fell off the wall after 3 days. Called the engineer to come reattach it. After fiddling with it for two hours, he reattached it, only to have to fall out of the wall again later that night.
The beds were quite uncomfortable, and pills were flat. I woke up sore every day. The rooms seem quite dark, with minimal lighting. I hate that. I want to see where Im walking and wake up to a brightly lite room. For being 5 star, you would think the wireless service should be included. Nope.
All hotel staff were quite attentive and responded to our needs quickly and with courtesy. The hotel does the job, but I really dont think its worth its price. Location is great, however.
When we checked out, they tried to tack on a charge for a breakfast buffet, which I had no knowledge of.
This is THE place to stay.
They have amenities for everything!
I love it... an umbrella for a rainy day, which it was!
A scale, so you can keep up with your weight and not go back home and be surprised when you gained 20lbs...
Q-tips & cotton balls!
A nail buffer... how did they know??
Bathrobes... vanity mirror..
Dvd player
Rooms are not the biggest, but the decor sure makes up for it. The hotel is also walking distance to almost about everything... you won't be bored.
This hotel is great. Walking distance to just about anything you'd want to do in Vancouver with a very attentive front desk staff and prompt room service...And the kind of beds and bedding you dream of dying in. My lover and I stole a couple days here while he was working and soaked up Canadian sunshine (which in May lasts til about 9:00pm) in our room with barely any reason at all to leave. When we were looking for something specific, we simply called downstairs and the staff member on the other end of the line would patiently and thoroughly walk us through all of our options and direct us there with top notch hospitality. I can't wait to come here again.
My Fav hotel in Vancouver
Ok, the location is good. And about 75% of the staff are really great, but all that does not a 5 star make. Depending on who you ask this property is 4.5 or 5 stars. I am sorry it is not. We stayed in the Grande Residences. It was not grande at all. 5 star is the golf villa suites at Wynn in Vegas. This compares to a non updated Residence Inn somewhere like Pomona. The tvs are small, the suite dusty and ratty. The conciege could never be bothered to help ...Room service was out of everything....All in all this is not the property it claims to be, now if it claimed to be a midlevel property Id have probably awarded it 3 stars, because thats what it is, a midlevel property, using aa name and past repuation. I also think the people who write the excessively favorable reviews must have never been anywhere really nice.
I stayed at the Sutton Place for a few days in the summer and it was a great stay. The location is super convenient and the service is excellent. Twenty-four hour room service is always a good thing and not something you find at most hotels. Other highlights - an indoor swimming pool, an in house spa, and maid service twice a day. Luxurious!
a nice hotel that's centrally located. the robson st. shopping district is right around the corner and your a 15 minute walk from either yaletown or a ferry to granville island.
everything is pretty top-notch here. the service provided by the concierge is exemplary and every one is incredibly friendly including the very helpful valet patrons.
the rooms though felt a lil bit on the older side and i feel that a few of the things could be upgraded like the old-school thermostats. haven't seen one of those since my college days!
When my boyfriend was first transferred to Vancouver, he did so on a part-time basis and his new home for the next few months would be the Sutton Place Hotel. It didn't take me long to realize what lucky duck he was and I got myself on a plane as often as I could, making Sutton Place my new part-time home too. Seriously fab digs! This is the only AAA Five Diamond - rated hotel in Vancouver and it lives up to its reputation. Impeccable service and attention to detail and some of the friendliest hotel staff ever to cross my path. It took some time to get used to someone saying 'Hello!' to you every time you came out the door, but it was always appreciated. The Vida Wellness Spa is situated in the hotel, along with the lovely Fleuri Restaurant, which offers an amazing Jazz Brunch on Sundays. The Sutton Place Prestige Program, which gives you points each time you stay, allows you to put the points towards future stays (an anniversary surprise from the bf) and spa trips, as well as dinners at the grand Fleuri Restaurant. I ran into Kevin Smith hustling out of the hotel but didn't get up the guts to harass him...I don't want to be one of THOSE people. We were spoiled rotten and I still have a soft spot for Sutton Place.
