They really do make great food here, but the room is FAR too small and you're lucky if you can find a table. There have been several times where i've drove up for breakfast, only to find the dining room completely full, so I have to leave and go elsewhere. Also, it's a bit inconvenient to order as the menu is written on a chalkboard that you can't read when waiting in line. You would think the management would see these problems and try and move into a more suitable space.

I went on a semi-blind date last weekend, and he ended up taking me to this quaint little bistro off the main strip. My date is going to HATE me for writing this review because he wants to keep it a hidden gem for as long as possible. Sorry, Tyler.

I regret not taking a picture of his place. It's incredibly cute. They serve breakfast food and sandwiches. The menus are written on chalk boards above the counter. It's hard to see the breakfast menu when you're standing in line, but the leaning back and craning of the neck was well worth it because the food was yummy. The rest of the place consisted of long wooden tables with benches, small tables and patio seating. Two thumbs up for the scenic view of the mountains!

The prices were very fair. It seemed like everything was around the $6-12 range. We arrived for lunch. My date ordered some kind of sandwich. Forgive me for forgetting, but I was more concerned about what I was eating. I decided that it was still appropriate to have breakfast. I ordered their breakfast sandwich. It had a over-hard egg, bacon, tomato and lettuce on toasted bread. It also came with a side of hashbrowns and some pieces of fruit. It was nothing fancy, but it was very satisfying, and I especially liked how they put lettuce in it! It seemed more hearty that way. The unpretentious quality is what makes this place so great.

The only downsides that I noticed was that the water cooler and cups were near the washroom. Some of the cups were wet, and I wasn't sure if they wer clean or used. Also, the salad they put on the side of the lunch sandwiches didn't really look like a salad. I think they would benefit by adding a nicer salad or a slaw to the sandwiches instead. However, the food that other people ordered looked great too! I would definitely come back here next time I'm in Canmore!

Interesting place the Summit Cafe is. One plus is that it is off the beaten track on the Cougar Creek side of Canmore with a great view of the mountains from the patio.

Once inside one lines up in the 'cattle chute' like entry to order and pay and then proceed to a table. On this particular date and time the tables were crowded with people jut siting all the way to dirty un-bussed tables from people that had left long ago. Clearly, the philosophy might be a cafeteria style where one is expected to clear and clean their own table - although from the prices asked for food I could not see a representative discount for the clear your own table.

Food was average at best with a premium price being charged on all menu items. The coffee was good and hot with a great amount of bite (mountain coffee!). My suggestion would be to use this as a snack stop - coffee and muffin rather than an entree place....again, the view outside from the patio is spectacular.
