Review from Joshua B.
I just wanted to share an experience I had shopping for a surround sound system at Sound Room today. I am the type of person who researches every electronics purchase meticulously and I have grown unbelievably tired of trying to chase down pimple-faced teenagers at Best Buy so they can pretend like they know what they're talking about. When some tool box asked me to plug in my ipod to test a pair of $3,000 Boston Acoustics speakers it was all I could do not to Hulk out on him. But that's another review I guess.
After a month of reading I narrowed my search to a couple of systems, both manufactured by Definitive Technology. I was happy to find out that DefTec had a licensed Vancouver retailer in my area, so I was on my way to Sound Room.
I was fortunate to be introduced to salesperson Claude (hope I'm spelling that right) who was incredibly friendly, honest, and about as low pressure as you can be in a retail position. Not only did he take the time to walk me through the different systems and break down all the differences in each speaker/receiver/sub, he handed me the remote and gave me free reign over the system. People reading this are probably thinking "congratulations, that's what a salesperson is supposed to do" and that may be true, but I'm not done.
Claude was able to give me a very competitive price on each piece of equipment, even matching Amazon's would-be prices, which is outstanding for a Canadian electronics retailer. When I asked what my delivery options were, Claude actually offered to deliver the gear personally in his own vehicle after the store closed. I actually ended up riding home in his van with all of the gear, which he helped me dolly up to my apartment.
I obviously can't guarantee that my experience is typical but I am certainly over the moon with the customer service I received and I will undoubtedly recommend The Sound Room to anyone shopping for home theater equipment. -

The Sound Room people know audio/video better than any other place I've been too. I've purchased audio/video cables and headphones from them as well as several sets of powered speakers. They always have a great selection of high quality stuff at a reasonable price and I've always been happy with what I got. I have been in several times to talk about plasma TVs, Blu-Ray players, and Yamaha sound bars (in preparation for an upcoming purchase) and Ezio and Paul have always been very helpful in answering all my questions. Great showroom with little rooms where you can sit on a couch and try out their systems as if you were in your own home, unlike the big box stores that are noisy and don't allow you to really test drive the systems properly before buying.

Anytime I need to get something audio-based I come to these guys first. The whole staff is incredibly professional and very helpful. They have an excellent sales system that helps you track your purchase (for things like warranty), and they have an in-house repair group. Feel free to grill the staff about products and selections and audio advances as they are all up to snuff.

Expensive but very professional and helpful staff. If you want a top-notch sound system and great advice, this is the place to go - and you will pay handsomely for it...

Probably one of the worst sales experiences ever. They know how to make you feel small and stupid. I have approx $20K to spend combined on a projector, screen, 5.1 system and accessories. However, I never walk into a store to flash a big budget. Let's see if starting between $1000-$2000 just for the speakers will get you a creative response. Indeed! The response verbatim: "I don't think I have anything to offer you". I will gladly take my money elsewhere where I'm not treated with a smart-ass and belittling attitude. In a down draft economy I'm still surprised to find such arrogance, when $2000 for 5 in-wall speakers gets you a response like that.
