Okay, so technically it's closed and Chainsaw has replaced it.  But in my mind, the Silver Spur will reign forever.  This was my absolute favourite bar throughout university, from age 18 ...*ahem* I mean 19 of course...on.  I still haven't found a bar that I feel as comfortable in as this one.  It really was my home away from home throughout university and my years in KW.

At it's most basic, this could be described as a karaoke bar.  But it was really so much more than that.  It had a dance area that was consistently the least crowded dance floor in the city.  Due to the karaoke nature of the bar, you got a different mix of music than anywhere else - there was 90s nostalgia, 80s pop, 70s classic rock, country, hard rock, top 40, and of course there was always the indistinguishable singers.

I think the very nature of karaoke made it a place where everyone was a little more comfortable.  Not once in all my nights here did I ever hear anyone booed; more often the worse they were, the more they were applauded and cheered.  This was a bar where everyone could talk to anyone.

Since my 19th birthday until last year (my first in Toronto), every birthday that I spent in the country was spent at the Spur.  And they were always amazing nights.

I can't tell you how much I love this bar, and how desperate I am to find a similar bar in Toronto.  It still makes me sad that it doesn't exist anymore.  I was there the final two nights it was open and, if I'm to believe the boy that was buying me drinks, I drank the last drink served.

I will always cherish my memories of the Silver Spur.
