Review from Wendy P.
Oh Sherlock Holmes!! Another spot I hadn't been to in years and years... that is until I popped in to meet a friend for a Friday afternoon bevvy while I was on my lovely holidays up in E-town.
It's just as I remembered it. A cozy English-style pub, lots of little bends and turns and nooks and crannies. This time around I just had me a grasshopper and a half order of poutine (the poutine itself would get about 3 stars. It was good, but not especially spectacular). But our server? She was just lovely.
Thanks for still kickin' around Sherlock Holmes!Listed in: Edmonton a-gogo

great place, but skip the heavily breaded tough popcorn pork nuggets ... a.k.a. Professor Moriarty's Dry Ribs on the appetizer menu.
Steak & Mushroom pie would be a better choice. -

Sherlock's is my neighborhood hangout. Because I live across the street, it's by far the most convenient watering hole in my area.
Nestled on Rice Howard Way, the cozy building is covered in ivy. The interior is well-decorated and representative of a true English pub. I love the patio as well - it's very fun to sit here in the summer and watch the sun go down on a hot afternoon.
The service here is usually awesome! Stacey, in particular, is a great server that knows what she is doing, and always takes extra care to make each visit perfect, whether it's plating a shared dish for you, or buying you a round when your requested beer is unavailable.
The food is pretty solid - once you figure out how to navigate the menu, you're good to go. The salads are very fresh and delicious, as is their salmon. The pub grub is pretty predictable - heavy and booze-absorbing. I do confess to enjoying their deep-fried pickle spears, though. -

If it's good enough for Justin Timberlake, it's good enough for me.
This unpretentious pub in downtown Edmonton is the perfect place for a simple beer on the patio with friends. Our first waitress didn't ever ask me if I wanted to order a drink, but our second waitress was very friendly.
It's a little too dark inside for my liking, but the patio is big enough that it's usually easy to find a seat out there.
I'll definitely swing back here again for another successful round of after-work drinks with the yelpers!Listed in: Four-Stars, Downtown Dining

Be forewarned, this place can be REALLY PACKED at lunch time and parking can be difficult to find downtown!
They make great fish and chips and shepard's pie... and if you're lucky enough to be there on a day they are serving their homemade clam chowder, you are in for a treat!
Really has that old English charm. Everytime I eat there I am reminded of a summer I spent in England. -

I never knew what a long island frost was until the waitress suggested it for me! Yummy. However, it could have used more alcohol (isn't that always the case?)
Good pub food. I had the poutine, which was so filling I felt so sick after.. but not before downing 2 beers..
Situated downtown around a whole bunch of other places to go, we wanted to sit out on a patio and get eaten by mosquitoes! -

Three reasons to go to Sherlock Homles Pub:
1. Decent food and beer. Good drink specials.
2. Great patio. Right downtown tucked onto a quieter street the patio at Sherlock Holmes is fabulous.
3. Stacey the waitress. No joke. She made every visit splendid.Listed in: Eat your way through Edmonton

It does get packed here but I love the British vibe and tight spaces. Prompt service and good selection of food and drink. It's also in a great location but, like I said, it's very busy with the after work crowd on week days and seemingly busy all the time on weekends. The patio is nice but doesn't get the sun until about 4pm.

Cool pub. But that's it! Great to grab a pint. There's a location in West Edmonton mall as well...in case you want to go shopping while drinking...

Rarely does any pub get a 5 star from me.. I LOVED this place. I had a long trip here and was kind of dreading Edmonton.. but this place is awesome.. good and plenty of taps.. friendly..the service rocks, in fact. good pub fare...its authentic English.. not on the healthiest of sides..but good and after a couple of drinks, you are gonna need some meat and potatoes from England to off set it.. We split a vegetarian pizza.. so yummy... its a cutesy little pub off the main streets.. across from the Westin Hotel.. no kidding..I'd come back here just for this pub..

As you walk down the street to the pub the first thing you see is the cute little cottage in the middle of the city. It is covered with foliage, which makes it very Ish looking! It is all Dark and heavy wood, with great wood floors. The food was really good! I had steak and mushroom pie, that had the most perfect pastry on top.My friend had Bison Burger with fries. She said it was wonderful with a bit of spice..i was amazed at how great the tomato looked. Why not 4 stars you ask..well our server was not the happiest. She threw the coasters at the table practically hitting us with them. However, she did improve after awhile. You can't have everything right! But, i would diffidently return. Food was great!

Sherlock's got it going! A nice name, a good location, a fine choice of British pub food and a nice collection of drinks!
I've been here just two times and I would certainly recommend this place on a weekday night, if you're looking to have a couple of drinks with friends. They have maybe six to seven beers on tap along with a large selection of international beers in their menu. Among the food fare, I quite liked the fish and chips. It's not out of the world, but does taste great! The poutine is also quite good.
What I found a little out of the normal was that for no real reason (and that too on a Tuesday night) a band started performing there, without much room to move around. It was quite strange, given that it didn't necessarily fit in with what I expected on a Tuesday night.
Location-wise, it is conveniently near the main downtown hub (City Centre mall-ish) and you'd expect a lot of downtown office goers to come here on weeknights.Listed in: On Edmonton's LRT, Downtown E-town

The Sherlock Holmes is one of the Edmonton's best pubs, offering a welcoming atmosphere, a full menu (featuring both traditional British fare as well as typical Canadian-style pub grub), and live music most nights of the week.
The menu changed recently, and some items, like the spinach dip, aren't as good as they used to be. This is unfortunate, since Sherlock Holmes used to have some of the best pub food in town. It's still good, but not as good as it used to be.
The Holmes is a perfect place for those who live or work downtown to meet up with friends for drinks and dinner after work, or to watch a soccer or hockey game on one of the bar's many TVs.Listed in: The Places I Go Out

Best place for a drink in the entire city I think. When working in the city, I stay at the Westin and this place is right across the street. Food is great, drinks come quickly and the service staff are the best. Very friendly, and make a point of remembering the regulars.

Went there on a late night after the Edmonton Home Show. I'm staying at the Courtyard Marriott and it actually looks like a really dead part of town. But it turns out there are places around which are decent and this is one of them. After being recommended from a Twitter friend that this is a decent place we headed over. It's a cool little small building that's just like an old english pub, but in a big (if you call Edmonton big) city.
The food wasn't fantastic, but it was what you'd expect from a pub. We were on a shortened menu because it was late and we couldn't try some of the foursquare recommended dishes like the sheppards pie and the fish and chips. But all in all, a great night and a great place. -

When I was working in the media, this was a popular place to go for drinks. It was close to city hall and it was a central meeting place that was unpretentious and had good beer. (We also used to go to the one near Capilano mall).
The food's your typical pub fair. The calamari's good, the fish & chips are made of Halibut and they're delicious but small, but I once had a cous cous salad that was terrible - but it's good for your traditional English/Irish grub. As for the beer, they've got an unusually large selection of draft and decent pitcher specials.
I also love the big booths made of beaten wood that make it feel like the bar's been there for a century. This places attracts a lot of suits and women who come here swim in a sea of testosterone. They also have live music sometimes. I've heard Irish and Scottish bagpipes on different occasions. Parking can be a real problem so it's best to park at a parkade and make a few-minutes trek. It's cozy and warm inside, and it doesn't take long to get a mug in your hand. -

This pub is located downtown and always lures people in after work. The relaxed atmosphere is really welcoming and the menu offers a good choice between British and Canadian food.
The staff is really friendly here. They strike up conversations with you like they have known you for years. I have gone to order a drink and ended up talking to the bartender for a while. Everyone here is in good spirits and enjoying themselves.
If you are having more than a drink I would recommend the calamari. -

This is by far one of the best pubs in the city. There are many welcoming regulars, the staff is attentive and friendly. If there's a game on, that's what the TVs are tuned to, if not they have live music sometimes, other times the background music is decent. The upper level is great for private parties and is a bit quieter. It's a pretty small place upstairs - I think it holds about 20 people if all the tables are used. The main floor has seating around the bar, some two-seater tables, booths along the sides, additional bar seating. The appetizers are awesome - especially if you have a group of people and order the sampler. Outside is a patio which is open in the summer.
I think I stayed here a bit too long but as the song that was playing as I arrived says, "Whatever gets you through the night, it's alright." -
Review from Kenny C.
This place is definitely the local watering hole. They have juke boxes, pool tables, darts, and a few flat screens to enjoy sports center. The staff was really nice, and acted like I was a local who she had known for years.
The place would have gotten another star but my vodka cranberry was mostly cranberry. Other then that the place is cool. They also have a breathalyzer test right by the exit so I guess they are doing there part in not allowing people to drink and drive, beside not giving them much alcohol in there drinks! -

Great beer selection and the wings are excellent. Had a Bison burger that was very good and wait staff was attentive.
Its a cool, real pub, (building and all), smack dab in downtown Edmonton. -

This pub came recommended from the hotel I was staying at downtown. This location is part of a chain. Nothing out of the usual as far as the decor goes. They have some good specials during the week. The food was very disappointing. The fish-n-chips seemed to be dripping in oil. The fish was covered in way too much batter and was crunchy like a fish stick. My beef dip was alright. Nothing to rave about. The sheppards pie didnt seem to be liked too much either. I was surprised that they messed up on pub fare. I wonder what their recommended Butter Chicken tastes like...

Review from Paula K.
This is my favourite downtown pub. It is conveniently located on Rice Howard Way, close to the library, City Centre mall, and other places I frequent. This is an English pub, serving tradition British fare like fish and chips and meat pies of varying kinds, but also typical pub grub like chicken wings, fries, and other finger foods. I especially like the potato cakes with sour cream. Some of the entrees I have enjoyed here include chicken and beef pot pies, burgers of varying kinds, and a roast beef dinner that wa son special one evening. Mostly, I find this is a great place to stop in for a quick drink, as they have just about everything on tap (including Guinness), as well as full bar service for other kinds of drinks.
