The Schlafly Tap Room is lovely, simply lovely. I went there for the first time last month and will definitely be returning.

I am always in search for good "dinner with friends" spots. Friday dinners out is a regular tradition for my husband and I. Since I am usually the person picking the place, I need something that is dependable. Like a well behaved child, I want a  restaurant that is seen and not heard essentially. I want to be focused on my friends and their amazing gossip, not where the waiter is or my empty beer glass (As I said before, these are dinners on Friday, I don't mess around). When picking a spot it has to meet the following criteria:

Good food, not too unique, but nothing too boring.
    Excellent drink selection
Chic atmosphere (especially if the dinner patrons are not city dwellers)
    $$ price on Yelp
Nothing too crowed where the wait will be too long to eat.
Crowd pleaser. A little something for everyone.

Taaw Daaw! STR crossed everything off that list and then some. Okay, we did have to wait about a half an hour for a table; but "waiting" at The Schlafly Tap Room means playing pool, eating Bavarian pretzels, and sipping on a Hefeweizen. Tough Life.

Decided to check this place out with Sean yesterday. I had wanted to go a week or two ago but I happened to have really bad timing and got there right as the Blue's Game was starting so there was literally no where to sit and I had to leave. But when we went there yesterday, it was a Tuesday afternoon, and things were kind of slow.

I decided to go with the Schlafly Beer Sampler to start with because I'd never really tried much of Schlafly's selections aside from their pale ale which I am not a huge fan of (too bitter for my taste) so I figured I might be able to try something new. The server (who was pretty good btw) brought out 6 mini 5 oz glasses of different beer pours. I really like the Hefeweizen (I'm a fan of wheat ales, so no surprise there) and the seasonal pour. I wasn't as crazy about the others but tried some nonetheless. It cost $7.25 and it's the equivalent of about a pint and 2/3 of a pint, so you are getting a pretty decent deal and it's a variety of stuff to try. I couldn't finish the whole thing by myself though!

Also tried the Poached Egg Salad which was pretty good but not amazing by any means. The dressing was already on the salad and it was kind of vinegar-y maybe almost a little too much for my taste. I did like the shoestring potatoes, though, they gave the right amount of crunch. I ended up taking half the salad home with me.

Then I got an order of Traditional Muscles. They were by far some of the best muscles I've had. The sauce was a white wine broth with some onions/shallots inside. It wasn't super rich but gave it enough flavor to accent the muscles. I requested a side of plain white bread instead of fries with my muscles because to me, the idea of muscles + french fries sounds kinda gross. I like dipping my bread in the sauce after I am done eating all of the meat out of the muscles, and dipping fries just did not sound as appetizing to me, hehe.

Sean ordered a burger. He wanted a bacon cheeseburger but they didn't have bacon. Sean says the burger he had was good but the options for burgers were distinctively lacking. "Their weird burger or a plain burger" in his words (gah, I don't see why he doesn't just write his own review!) He devoured it though, as well as the fries so I am guessing this place is Sean H. approved?!

I think we'll be back eventually! It seems like a good place to go watch a game with your friends.

I no longer live in St. Louis, but I miss Schlafly Tap Room!!  What' not to love there?  If you're visiting St. Louis, this is a memorable experience, and is perfect for literally everyone in your party except a Southern Baptist with a hang-up about alcohol.

The beer, that requires an entirely different review, and while I like their beer, I am no connoisseur. I will say that whenever Schlaflay is offered in restaurants, I always order it.

Whatever happened to the portobello mushroom burger?  That was always a favorite! It was literally a big marinated mushroom that covered almost the entire bun, with a spicy sauce on it.  SOOO GOOOD!!!  Get that back on the menu!

The fish and chips are amazing.  The fish is a very flaky white fish, a nice thick piece (two to a dinner I believe).  The tartar sauce is of their own concoction and extraordinarily delicious.  The fries, of course who can forget their fries.  They're so delicious.  Be careful, you'll fill up and won't be able to order dessert!

It is a tragedy of epic proportions to leave "The Tap Room" without ordering the Sticky Toffee Pudding.  We all know it.  Now, I usually only go for chocolate when it comes to dessert. Their sticky toffee pudding is incredible.  It's a warm, moist piece of spice cake-esque type of thingy, It sits in its own pool of thick, rich, dense home made caramel sauce, heavy on brown sugar and butter and Karol syrup.  Then, atop it all is a very light cumulonimbus cloud of fresh whipped cream.   It is utterly IMPERATIVE  that one's fork catches each of the three indispensable elements of the dessert, the whipped cream (whether you say it like Stewy or not!), the cake, and the sauce.  It is impossible not to savor this in your mouth.

It will make you very, very happy.  And honestly, go there too, because Tom Schlafly is a great guy, truly a good man who's one of the most witty people whom I've ever met.

Some places just give me the warm & fuzzies about living in St. Louis, and the Tap Room is one of them. Tonight I went to the season kickoff of Frontyard Features and got to enjoy an outdoor movie in the parking lot.

I love to meet up with friends here and have a beer, and Schlafly beer is some of the only beer I'll drink. Their summer lager definitely does it for me, as well as their raspberry Hefeweizen. Cool, crisp, and they just scream summer to me. They help fill the void of the pumpkin ale being out of season, that's for sure.

There's plenty to snack on if you're hungry, and the pretzels with white cheddar sauce are undoubtedly the way to go if you want something quick & easy. The beer bread with cheddar butter and bleu cream cheese is also killer, just make sure you won't be kissing anyone later. If not, eat away. For something more substantial, try the fish & fries, the spinach & mushroom lasagna, a giant tap room burger, or my personal favorite, the chicken salad with avocado and sprouts.

As a bonus, they have live music every Thursday through Saturday from 9pm until midnight. Cold beer, a great menu. and live music? Check please.

I love this place. I love summer. Can't wait for many more nights here!

While I am not an avid drinker of alcohol, this place appears to have an extensive collection of german beers and taps.  I came here mostly for trying out the food and was brought here via an elite yelp event.

I had the Meat and Cheese board, it looked fantastic.  However, i was not a fan at all of the pickled veggies and sticky sugary fruit.  The bread was quite hard and for around $12 it was way overpriced.  I would never get this again, again the presentation was fantastic the taste just wasn't there.

I also tried the pretzels off the appetizer and can i say amazing!  I would come here just for these pretzels, the cheese sauce to go with them are fantastic, it is a huge portion you get six seriously huge fat pretzel stick type things.

They did sponsor an outdoor showing of The Big Lebowski which was great!  If they had another outdoor movie i would come again.

I do have to comment on the schlafly special drink of some sort of white russian concoction for $5 it was horrible.  If you want to drink straight fromt he bottle this drink is for you!

Great atmosphere, multiple bars and patio space makes this place a great rendevous with friends!

    Mediocre this time...

I was very excited to revisit the Tap Room last weekend. I worked downtown for 4 years, and we'd eat lunch there monthly. This time we went on a Saturday around 5:30 with 6 people. There was an hour and a half wait for a table. I get it, it's a busy restaurant. The hostess directed us to the bar area. She said they served food in the bar, but there wasn't cocktail service available (???).

My friends and I procured some tables and decided what to order for drinks and dinner. I thought it was just bizarre that they offer full menu in the bar area, yet they don't have cocktail servers. Luckily I've waited tables for 15 years because I had to take down my friends' orders for food and drinks and relay them to the bartender. He seemed a little irritated that three of us ordered Long Islands (I get it, it's a brewery...but not all of us like beer or are in the mood for it all the time). I tipped $20 on $90 because I'm in the service industry and am a pushover, but I was kind of bitter about it. I mean, they guy punched our order into the computer and made our drinks. I delivered our drinks, and someone else brought us our food.

I'd go back, but I'm not particularly in a hurry to...

Being a fairly new St Louisan, I had to try the tap room out. The inside was crowded and fairly loud. Nothing I wasn't expecting here. Our food was delicious. I got the Cuban and the lady ordered the Monte Cristo. Both were well portioned and tasty. Definitely gotta try the beer bread. Couldn't get enough of that stuff. Beer was cold and refreshing. Recommend getting the sampler first to get a good feel as to which beer you are interested in. Only complaint was our server. He was rude, short in conversation, and rather off-putting. Other staff seemed pleasant so I'd like to hope he was just a bad apple. Nevertheless I highly recommend making the trip to the tap room

Giant place. A brewery, restaurant, game room, and music venue under one roof.
I enjoyed all of them, but the music venue. We had some apps; cheap, filling and delicious. I tried a few of their beers, started with the sampler. We sat in the music section. A trio was setting up for 20 minutes (knowing nothing about music production, it seemed excessive and self-indulgent). They started playing a keyboard-mixing board, a bass with a bow, and a drum set with a bow. That lasted 15 minutes (no singing). They dropped the bows and started playing normally. We sat through another 20 or so minutes, again without singing. A 45 minute instrumental in a bar on a Friday night? Trying to be different? Congrats. Might be a reason why that road isn't well traveled.

I'm running short on time for this review, but this is a hands down MUST SEE in St. Louis.  I was already pleasantly surprised by the beer at Schlafly, but was absolutely floored by the food.  I wasn't expecting much at all from a brewery, but hot damn.  I had the ground lamb sandwich and it was one of the most memorable sandwiches I've had in my entire life.  Get the German potato salad on the side and you've got yourself a real serious lunch.

Added bonus, you can have beer on cask, a unique experience for any beer drinker.  Try your cask beer beside something that comes from the line and you may see a beer you've had a hundred times before in an entirely different light.

I'd heard such good things about The Schlafly Tap Room, so on a whim my husband and I decided to stop there on our way home from the zoo for a late lunch.

The food was good, better than what you would traditionally find at a pub.  However, the portion sizes seemed to vary greatly from plate to plate.  My husband had the Cuban sandwich and could not finish it.

I had the fish and chips and was surprised at how little fish I received.  For $11.25, I expected at least 2 pieces, especially with it being Cod and therefore not very expensive fish.  My plate contained one piece.  And unfortunately, they put it on top of the fries without draining off all the cooking oil, so the fries directly under it were so oily they were no longer edible.  Flavor of the fish was good, but I shouldn't have to leave a restaurant and go home and make more food.

Not a great first experience for a place with so many good reviews.

I actually ended up at Schlafly's on accident this past fall.  My originally intended destination was the Schlafly Bottleworks in Maplewood, but my lovely Smartphone's GPS decided the Schlafly Tap Room downtown was where I really wanted to go (honestly, I didn't even know this location downtown existed prior).

So, dutifully following the GPS, my friend and I ended up there.  And to our delight, it was even better than the one in Maplewood.  The whole restaurant (which is quite substantial) is housed in one of the many abandoned brick building made long ago for manufacturing something or other.  So upon entering, you're viewing exposed, rough red brick walls, steel ceiling beams far overhead and a working micro-brewery  housed in full view of diners.  A number of different rooms break up the inside along with at least two bars, but it's a pretty open and airy space overall.

We were seated in the main dining area and ordered (naturally) house drinks.  I'm not a beer fan, so I got a blueberry infused ale instead (delicious!) and my friend had a Schlafly ale on tap - basically the only kind of beer he really likes.

Since we were pretty hungry we got the crab cake appetizer to start.  I was debating the crispy frog legs, but I've had chicken's feet in Asia and there just wasn't enough meat for my liking (I figured this might be similar - maybe next time).  The crab cakes were a very good choice.  Two healthy sized cakes were delivered to our table with a fantastic mustardy sauce underneath them that really made the cake special.

The main entrees were the vegetable vindaloo (with chicken per my request) for me and the roasted amish chicken for him.  Holy moley!  When those portions came out, I knew we'd be doggie bagging it home.  Enormous portions - enormous!  The vindaloo was delicious - hot and spicy and the rice was kind of alongside all the veggies and chicken, so I could control how much sauce was sopped up by the rice.  Needless to say I almost totally ignored the rice and focused on the saucy veggies and chicken and still couldn't finish it.  So, so good though.  The Amish chicken was also a huge portion - I think it was a whole half of a chicken with veggies, mashed potatoes and its own jus everywhere.  We were very satisfied by the end, I can tell you that.

Schlafly Tap Room downtown was a really nice surprise and some place I'd be happy to go back to in the future.  I bet it gets really fun at the bar on a Friday night.

Oh, the awaited visit to the Schlafly Taproom. There are a few breweries that I really enjoy. Of the bigger, independent breweries in the US, Schlafly is definitely in the upper echelon, mainly because of their seasonals. I knew they had a taproom in STL, so when my wife and I found out we would be seeing Radiohead there, I decided we would hit up Schlafly at least once.

We went twice. Once for a late dinner and a second time to grab a quick snack after the concert. The first night I had a Monte Cristo and the Schlafly sampler (eight beers of your choosing) and my wife had the leg of lamb sandwich. Both of these sandwiches were pretty solid. The Monte Cristo was very filling (I only got halfway through it!), and the breading was well done.

The second night we had the hummus, and it was excellent!

I can't extrapolate all that much, really, because my knowledge of the place is pretty limited, but there were a couple odd things that happened. The first night we went, our server was very friendly, but largely neglectful. It was one of those situations where I would make sure to cram in as much interaction as possible when she actually came by our table. The second time we went, the crowd was pretty douchey. We actually had some people openly laugh and gesture at my group of friends, and that bugged me. Can't blame that on the establishment, but that stuff irks me, for some reason. I never felt completely welcome or comfortable at the Schlafly Taproom.

That same night, the hostess was pretty snarky with me for no apparent reason, in a "I'm-going-to-mumble-but-it's-obvious-I'm-talking- crap-to-you" sort of way. After that, apparently the group we were with had issues with the server and tipped according to that, and the server confronted my wife and I! We didn't even do it!

I really wanted to all-out love the Schlafly Taproom, and I'm sure I'll be back. I guess those things just got under my skin. I'm all about comfortable restaurants and making the customer feel appreciated.

Schlafly makes a few consistent brews, and offers a rotation of seasonals as well.  The Hefeweizen goes down smooth for fans of wheat's, but I prefer their Pale Ale (think Sierra Nevada Pale Ale with less pronounced hops).

The seasonal I had was the Summer Lager.  It was nice.  It was smooth and balanced, and I could easily see have multiples of this in the heat of the summer.

This brewery seems to have a good distribution throughout St. Louis.

Schlafly has two brew pubs in the St Louis area, and both are great, but I prefer this one, mainly due to its location. Both spots feature the extensive menu of quality craft beers Schlafly is known for, but each has a food menu unique to itself.

The Tap warm has a warm, slightly rustic feel too it. Dark woods and brass all around. The bar side is spacious without feeling cavernous. Its surprisingly cozy for a bar of that size. The restaurant side is cozy and comfortable. The small outdoor seating area is charming.

The beer is excellent and the food is superb! The fresh baked warm pretzels are the stuff if legend, I tell you!

This is a great spot for a nice meal, but is also a great spot to catch some live music and enjoy several pints. The crowd is fairly diverse, but always friendly. The service is good and the BEER, did I mention THE BEER?

I read a lot of Yelp reviews before I went so I was expecting some really lousy service.  My husband and I went for lunch today (Tues). There wasn't a crowd at all and the service was very good.

We really enjoyed the interior of the old building - it looked like a brewery should be here. The food was fast coming out of the kitchen and was REALLY, REALLY good.  I had the pork cutlet. It was delicious!  My husband had the Plate of Swine and he raved about it. The beer was really good as well.

I love it when I go to a place not expecting much and coming out pleasantly surprised!

Hand someone a Schlafly and they say, "what's a shoe-fly?". Tell them bottoms up and they'll never mispronounce it again.

This is by far the best brew in the Lou -- I think I hear alarm bells ringing somewhere down in Soulard -- and although I absolutely love the Tap Room for its beer, its out-of-the-way locale and its authentic-not-for-authenticity-sake style (oh and the grub ain't bad either), what I'm really talking about here is the tour.

"Tour?" you say. "I've never seen a tour." That's right, Jack, 'cuz you ain't in the know. But for those of us lucky/unlucky enough to have worked in the hospitality industry, we know that Schlafly does one of the best jobs in educating those people that hold their brand value in their hands every day -- oh and there's free beer involved.

Not only did the uber-secret Schlafly brewery tour teach my WHY Schlafly is so good and HOW to sell it better, but it really made me appreciate the intricacies of what it takes to brew beer, giving you a much closer, hands-on look than any big brewer could. Plus, you get to caress a cold glass of your favorite malt as you make your way up through the bowels of this truly historic brew house, meaning there's none of that "are we there yet" feeling, which helps the participants really take the time to understand what they're looking at.

I've been to the tour at the Bottleworks and I've heard they've opened up the tours to more than a select number of people -- which is great -- but there's really nothing like seeing where Schlafly was born.

I'm visiting here, but I used to live in St. Louis, and I wish there had been places like this when I lived here.  The place is huge with a really good vibe.  It's casual, as you'd expect a brew pub, but the food is yummy.

I don't drink beer, so I can't tell you about that.  But we all shared a "poutine" which is essentially chili cheese fries with gravy instead of chili.  They were remarkably good.  Then I had the "Roasted Amish Chicken."  I don't know why it's Amish, but it was very good.  It was half a chicken, which is really too much so I took half of it home.  It came with garlic mashed potatoes that weren't spectacular, which for garlic mashed potatoes I think is a good thing.  They tasted very old-fashioned.

But what I really liked about the place was the people.  Our waiter was friendly and patient.  I was with 4 colleagues, and we were all a little loopy from having just flown in, but the waiter took it all in stride.

    I recommend it.

If you don't places that have beers with a high ABV, and really good food then don't come here. You can't go wrong with Schlafly's beer selection. You can try out the latest selections at the bar or grab a table for some grub. On my recent visit I got the lamb burger and it was perfect. If you haven't been here yet you need to give it a shot.

This is, hands down, my favorite place to go and eat in St. Louis.  I wish this was in the actual town I live in but I'll have to make due when I travel here for business.

First off, there is no bad food on the menu at all.  I have been coming to this place for three and a half years and have tried everything on the menu and everything is excellent.  That's one of the hardest things about going to the Tap Room, is trying to decide on what to have.

The beer cheese soup is some of the best I have ever had anywhere and , just to make sure you the beer flavor is not lost upon cooking, they bring out a shot of their Pale Ale to add to the soup when you eat it.  It's incredible!

The ham and egg toastie sandwich is ridiculously good as is their "Plate of Swine" which has a pork sausage, a pork chop, mashed potatoes with pork in them, sauerkraut with pork in it and a deep-fried beer-battered piece of bacon.  Yes you may die from a heart attack afterwards but death is totally worth that amazing plate of meat.

Enough about the food, the beer here is some of the best you are going to find in the country.  The drawback to the beer is the small distribution area they have set up so if you are not in the St. Louis area you are S.O.L. and can't get the stuff.  They are some of the best authentic german-style beer makers I have had in this country.  Their Kolsch won a gold medal at the World Beer Championship over other German beer makers, which is saying something.  Their seasonal beers are usually really good and their everyday staples like their Pale Ale and Oatmeal Stout are great too.  They make enough different beers that even if you are not a beer drinker they can find something for you that will change your mind.

Lastly, the ambiance of the Tap Room is really cool.  It's in an old, burned out paper mill made around the turn of the 19th century.  Check out the Tap Room.  i have never met anyone who was disappointed after going there.

Schlafly Tap Room was so close to 5 full stars from me.

Went to STL to see the hockey game this week with my girlfriend. Planned on going to STR after the game, not knowing it would last til 9:30. We hoofed and booked and got to STR by 9:45 (knowing their kitchen closed at 10). Walked in and the only thing that cost them that one star was the hostess. When we asked for a table, she gave that look to her manager like, "Do we really have to take them?".

That being said, they DID take us, and for that they get major props. We ordered the poutine as an appetizer. They didn't skimp on a single thing. Drenched in gravy, lots of cheese curd, just the way it's supposed to be. We each, in an effort to make up for coming in so late, ordered easy. She had the chicken salad sandwich and I had a lamb burger. We traded sandwich halves--super good. Chicken salad sandwich was a win. Bread was toasted perfectly and chicken salad wasn't too wet. Coleslaw wasn't to either of our liking--super vinegary/pickled red cabbage only. My lamb burger was cooked to a perfect medium and unbelievably tender. Feta cheese was a great addition and the ciabatta that it was on was so soft and warm.

We each ordered the beer sampler which was a great choice. Schlafly beer is perfect anyway, so that wasn't even an issue.

I have to give them a lot of credit for this visit...our waiter Steven (according to the receipt) was great. Super accommodating in the sense that he acted like we weren't the jerks that came in at 10 minutes til close and treated us just like any other guests. Funny, personable, and attentive.

Definitely worth a stop, but I'd recommend going in at an acceptable hour. We plan on doing the same sometime!

I have been to my fair share of tap rooms and microbreweries and this place has the best food ever (for a tap room). The IPA was excellent, but the German-style beers weren't quite as good. Mussels in traditional white wine garlic sauce are the perfect compliment to a Belgian-style brew. And they have a full bar, so the non beer drinker (lunatic) can enjoy a cocktail .

I've been here twice, both for food. I'm a big fan of Schlafly beer -- good variety, great taste, decent prices, which is why this restaurant is saved from a one star review.

Service was terrible, as in, it stands out as one of the worst waitstaff I've experienced in Saint Louis. Unfriendly, cold, not helpful, the opposite of accommodating. When dining, I don't expect anything out of the ordinary, and I typically can overlook minor flaws or issues. I understand waiting tables isn't the greatest job out there. However, you still provide a service, and present yourself as a reflection of the establishment.

Food was OK, nothing special. You go to the Tap Room to drink, not to eat, so the food is nice to nibble on, but won't leave you wishing for more.

Location is kinda weird, but the parking is plentiful. The space has so-so atmosphere, as there are many small rooms in this sprawling building (including a performance stage upstairs), and some are better than others.

Final impression: buy a six-pack of Schlafly from Schnucks, and save your time and money by avoiding this place. You can get better food elsewhere, better service anywhere, and any good bar in Saint Louis will have Schlafly on tap.

Went here after work one night. Great brewery with some really good beers on tap. Food here is really good. Had the fish and chips. Everything was super fresh. Bartenders and staff were extremely friendly. If you're not a fan of Schlafly beer go here and try something off tap, it's so much better off the tap then it is out of the bottle.

After a long drive from Oklahoma City, we arrived in St. Louis not quite knowing how to spend the rest of our evening. We wanted dinner and drinks, but where? We were able to find both at the Schalfy Tap Room, and it was all delicious!

I don't remember what my husband had because mine was better, hahah. But we were super hungry so we ordered lots of food and plenty of drinks. We shared some beer cheese soup and a plate of poutine (scrumptious!) and for my entrée, I chose the MEATLOAF MUFFIN. It was DELICIOUS meatloaf, wrapped in bacon, with crispy onions and a fried egg. Extremely messy, but worth the trouble.

To drink I had Schlafly's cider, which was crisp and refreshing and some sort of holiday-spiced wintery ale. When the kitchen closed, we retired to the other room and I had a blackberry mead which I really liked. I've had mead before which was thick and overly sweet but this was just a little bit sweet and really yummy.

The historic building that houses the Tap Room is a really cool space and the food and drink offerings are totally great. And Schlafly is awesome! I still have a case of their coffee stout I bought on my last trip to St. Louis... yumm.

pretty cool local place with beer made in house at amazing prices - $5 for high ABV drinks!

don't expect to come here for a nice quite evening out because its wood everywhere so very loud.  I had the falafel which was awesome - biggest ones I've ever seen! nice and spicy sauce too.

bottom line - great place to grab some quality craft beers with some quality bros

I came here expecting greatness as the place was recommended by one of my colleagues that lives in St. Louis and she had raved about it. Um, not so sure what I missed.

I'll admit I didn't try any of their crafted brews - I opted for a Strawberry Cider, which was delish, probably the highlight of my trip. But the food just didn't meet my expectations. I ordered the Beer Cheese soup expecting to be blown out of the water - the soup came with a side of beer in a shot glass (very cute presentation, I'll give them that) and the beer gave the soup a nice taste but it was more watery than I expected. It was packed with veggies though which was a pleasant surprise. My turkey burger came with avocado on a brioche bun and a side of coleslaw. The burger might have well just been a salt lick - so overpowerlying salty I couldn't even finish it.  The coleslaw (be warned is vinegar based) wasn't bad. Literally almost everyone else in my party had the Cuban and nobody was that impressed.

The space itself was large - but our table of six was cramped into a back corner that was legit almost pressed up against the table behind us - not an efficient use of space with these tables, like at all.

The waitress was almost non-existant, but to her credit, gave us separate checks even though the menu specifically says they don't. Kudos for being accommodating, Tap Room.

This place would probably be a great place to grab a brew before a sporting event and would be worth another shot for me. Plus, there is free private lot parking for the establishment - wonderful to not have to pay to park, especially in a "downtown" locale.

Pretzles with cheese dip.. fish and fries.. beer. Can't go wrong! I don't live in st louis and didn't know about schlafly beer until I was searching around yelp for dinner ideas. Glad we ended up here b/c the beer is fantastic. Coffee stout!? I bought 2 6-packs to bring back to Nashville with me. The marzen was great, too. Really, can't go wrong with whatever you pick, I'm sure. I wish we had access to their beer in Nashville.  The menu is nice and large with some british/bavarian esque options.. next time I'm gonna save room for sticky toffee pudding.

My first trip to Schlafly's was at the tail end of a night that started at about 1 pm, so I'll do my best to relay what I remember of the two hours I spent there....

Met up with a couple of awesome Yelp people here just after leaving 360 and was really impressed right away with the feel of the place. I remember brick infrastructure, nice wood tables and chairs, and lots of space. There were pool tables, foosball tables, and a room with an ample stage and dance floor populated by the Cake tribute band from Undercover Weekend (Bo & the Locomotive) and their fans.

Beerwise, I started with the regular Hefe, which is always good. After losing a nailbiter of a foosball game, I tried the Golden...something or another...on someone else's suggestion. Not bad, but I probably wouldn't drink it sober. My poor brother ordered one when he saw me drinking it and couldn't get past the first sip, dedicated Busch/Bud Light man that he is. :P

The thing I was most impressed with was the size of the place. It wasn't until I was just about to leave that I noticed a room adjacent to the large one I had been hanging out in that was every bit as large, plus I think I even saw stairs leading up to another area on my way out...

All in all, much much more investigation into this place is needed. I'll definitely write a follow up.

First of all, I was kind of surprised by how empty this place was at about 9:30 on a Saturday night. The dining room was half empty. The bar side of the place did seem a bit more crowded.

They had a live band playing in the bar side, and I was really impressed/ pleased with the fact that you couldn't hear them in the dining room at all.

Service was great, and the staff was all very friendly.

I was incredibly excited they had a house-brewed cider on tap as that's not something I see very often. I wasn't blown away by the cider, but I did enjoy it.

For dinner I had the lamb burger with pub fries. Both were great. The burger was juicy and cooked perfectly.

I see a return visit in my future. (If I'm ever in St. Louis again)

The beautiful wife and I swung by the Tap Room for dinner the other night. Now, we've been there before but it's either been:

    1) A completely crappy time (our first time, pre-Yelp)
    2) A special event (maybe a 3 star time, but it seemed unfair to write a review)

So this visit was going to be the test -- an average weekday night. For the most part, the Tap Room succeeded on my half of the table. For Erin's...eh, not so much.

    Recap:

    1) Beer, beer, beer -- the imperial stout started off the evening (10.5% ABV), it's served in a snifter, which drives me crazy (I'm a pint type of guy). It's a pretty good imperial, but almost a bit...thin? when compared to others that I enjoy. I moved on to the Octoberfest, which I thought was excellent. And kudos to them for having a full bar -- as I've griped about too many beercentric places, you need to have options for when those who don't drink beer get dragged along by their beer drinking other half (or halves if you're a wild and crazy type).

    2) Food -- I started off with the poached egg salad (frisee, cracked mustard vinaigrette, pancetta, shoestring potatoes) -- the egg was poached perfectly and the potatoes were crisp. And while the vinaigrette was good, but there were a couple of bites where the overwhelming flavor of nutmeg (?) came through. The real problem with the salad was the pancetta. Image pancetta version of Jack's Links nuggets, only about ten times more chewy.

For an entree, I had the mussels traditional style (white wine shallot butter). These were piled high and I thought pretty good. I was a bit surprised to find one that wasn't open and had a hole in its shell. I didn't eat it and I'm still alive, so either the imperial killed off anything or I've got an iron stomach. The accompanying fries were good, but some bread to soak up the tasty broth would have been nice.

Erin's meal was a huge disappointment -- some tuna special where the tuna got kitchen-raped into a flavorless mass of nothingness. I would have given them 4 stars except for this dish.

Service was fine, though you really get that sense of nobody is excited to work there (to the servers' credit, they do seem terribly understaffed, even on a Wednesday, the dining room was packed and I think I counted three servers at the most).

We still haven't had "that" experience which makes or breaks the Tap Room for us. We'll be back, but it might be for a bit.

This place has great beers (like the 80/- for instance, kolsh was ok), and great atmosphere, but I really wish they didn't ruin my visit with their miserable version of poutine.

For those of you who don't know, poutine is the staple French Canadian delicacy that's getting increasing popularity in the US. Poutine is French fries, cheddar cheese curds and gravy.

A good poutine has fresh crispy fries, a thick beef or chicken gravy, poured on fresh cheddar cheese curds made from unpasteurized milk (hard to find in the US). Crispiness of the fries is important because otherwise they get mushy. The thickness of the gravy is important because otherwise the curds won't melt on the fries. The curds are important because their saltiness and squeekiness (they grind between your teeth) just enhance the salty taste of the gravy and the hotness from the fries.

This poutine had practically everything wrong. It used orange curds that were neither fresh or of the right kind, and a mustard grain gravy. Not only did the gravy did not work with the cheese with respect to taste, it was so thick it couldn't get the cheese to melt and they had to put the poutine in the oven to make the cheese melt. The fries lost some of their taste, and the whole thing ended up being an in-mouth disaster.

So if you're like me and enjoy good beers and poutine, do yourself a favor and focus on the beers at Schlafly.

Went here a long time ago but had a blast!

My brother and I were in town for an Astros game and had an afternoon to kill.  The concierge at the hotel suggested the tap room and we were glad he did.

We ended up killing quite a bit of time there.  They had a HUGE selection of beers and just about every one of them delivered (my favorite was probably the cask conditioned APA, but I also liked the India Brown Ale and Oatmeal Stout).

The staff was also great, very friendly and made great recommendations, not only on their beers, but also for other things to do around St. Louis.

I highly recommend Schlafly as a first stop for any out of town visitors to St. Louis.

After being disappointed on several occasions with the Schlafly Bottleworks, I happened to stop by the Tap Room with my wife for dinner.  We were not disappointed.

The beers at the Tap Room taste fresher, if thats possible, than at the Bottleworks.  I had the Monti Cristo Sandwich and my wife had the Crab Cake sandwich accompanied with tap room fries and beer cheese soup.  Everything was delicious and the atmosphere was perfect.

    Can't wait to go back!

The place to go for beer and food in St. Louis...no argument.  Have been twice and both times had excellent food, beer and service.  I definitely recommend getting a beer flight because then you don't have to choose just one.  Food wise, I had a carnitas pizza once that was amazing.  The meat was so tender and the flavor blended together perfectly.  I also had their poutine (very good, almost Canadian!), gumbo (very good and spicy, the way I like it) and crab cakes (pretty good for a place very far from an ocean)

Also, you can't go there without having the Sticky Toffee Pudding.  The portion was so huge that the waitress didn't think I could finish it, but I did.  We were both proud of me.

Honestly, this place cares so much about their beer and their food that it's worth flying to St Louis just to go here.

This is a combination rating based on three visits (our hotel was just a couple blocks away, so a good place to finish a day of being a tourist and drinking, without having to drive).  Of those three visits, one was for lunch, and the other two were to the bar.

First visit.  First time in St. Louis, and checking out local breweries.  We sit at the bar and the bartender is very helpful, explanatory, and attentive.  Good selection, and he gave us tastes of everything we wanted to try (as opposed to the eye-roll, sigh, and begrudging delivery of a third taste).  We had just come from a great dinner at the Shaved Duck, so we were not looking for food.  The place is large, in pretty good shape (a converted old printing plant of something like that), and very comfortable surroundings.  Rating for this visit is 5 stars.

Second visit.  Lunch.  Whenever you say "not bad for bar food" . . . the qualifier (bar food) tells it all.  The sandwich was a bar sandwich.  3 stars.

Third visit.  It's our last night in town, and we just want a couple beers.  So we sit at the bar in the main dining room and have a couple beers that we did not have time for (or capacity, after a large dinner and other beer) during first visit.  As it turns out, the Cards are in the playoffs (playing in Milwaukee) and the game is running on all of the TVs in the bar (which inexplicably is not initially staffed).  The place fills up and they open that bar.  But service is slow because they are busy.  The bartender on this night is not nearly as friendly.  3 stars.

Went to the Schlafly last night and was so excited to take my mom there to have mussels and frites.  Unfortunately, they were out of mussels. Major bummer #1.  Since I always get the mussels, I decided to look at the bright side and take the opportunity to try something new. I got the chicken salad sandwich with potato salad.  My mom had the fish and chips and we split it up and tried some of each.

The chicken salad sandwich was good, although I would have liked it a little chunkier. The description said it came with avocado. I assumed it would be sliced pieces of avocado, but it was a spread, which just disappeared and I couldn't really taste it. The sprouts gave it some texture, which was needed. I didn't care for the potato salad, but my boyfriend loved it, so I think it was just me. Too bacon-y for my taste.

The fish and chips were good, especially the fish.  It was flaky with a really crisp batter fried coating.  The chips were dissapointing, not very crispy at all.

Not only were they out of my beloved mussles, but they were out of two beers that I attempted to order, the Kolsch and the Summer Lager. Major bummer #2. I settled on the Blueberry Cider, which was good, but not really what I wanted.

Major bummer #3, the service.  We had a server who was so unfriendly it was funny.  He hardly said 2 words and didn't ever apologize for being out of just about everything I tried to order.  I tried to make a joke about it and he just looked at me with a blank stare.  Very awkward...

The best parts of the evening were:

1.) The Sticky Toffee Pudding, holy moly, it was delicious.  A giant piece of cake covered in a delicious toffee sauce served with unsweetened whipped cream.  This was so up my alley.  The cake was moist and the toffee sauce was rich. The whipped cream was perfect, had it been sweetened, it would have been way too much.

2.)  The band that was playing. They were called Dizzy Atmosphere and they were a violin and guitar duo.  They were really great!

I really like the Tap Room but the service is so bad. Last night we had a server that said about 3 words to us. I would have rather just hand written my order and delivered it to the kitchen and bar myself.

With that being said the food is always good. It is kind of multinational pub food. You can get things you'd find in a English, Irish, American pub. The burgers and sandwiches are great. They are all very unique. I love the warm potato salad. It is almost identical to the hot German potato salad my grandma makes. Erika K is obsessed with the mussels and frites. She always gets them. They curry ones are quite good. Unfortunately they were out of them last night...

The food is a little heavy, but there are some lighter items. Beer from the cask is great, its little warmer and not as carbonated which makes the beer much more flavorful. They also have some beers you can't get in bottle or at the Flagship Bottle Works.

Before the weather inevitably turns, get your butt down to the Tap Room and have dinner in the beer garden!! It was absolutely gorgeous out there the other night, so glad we didn't eat inside.

I made the "mistake" of ordering the Turkey Monte Cristo. Somehow my starving self didn't take note of the "beer battered" part of the description and I completely blanked on the fact that by nature, a monte cristo is fried. Oops. That damn thing was gigantic, delicious and coma inducing. But I'm a sucker for Brie and cranberry chutney, so I just had to try it. And some beer cheese soup. And a pint. Mmmmm so good. I pretty much had to be rolled out to the car. I'm justifying my glutenous behavior because we went and ran around City Museum after... so I totally burned it all off right?? Next time I'll show some restraint when ordering. Maybe.

If you're in St. Louis for just one night, you try to make the most of it.  And we were trying pretty darn hard.  As the Jefferson Memorial seemed about ready to kick us out, we headed to Schlafly, attracted by the fact that they  were not AB, and that they advertised being open until at least 10pm on a Monday night.

Downtown was pretty empty - at least empty of reputable looking folks.  The parking lot in front had plentiful parking - so plentiful that we figured they might have decided to close early, an impression not exactly hindered by the large man behind the desk in front who exclaimed "Kitchen's Closed".  I guess we don't exactly look like their normal drinking crowd.

After declaring our lack of desire for actual food, we were waved toward the bar, where a small set of hangers on sat drinking and making somewhat off-color conversation with the friendly bartender.  He was quite willing to pour us a couple samplers - one of their regular set of beers, and another we chose from their full menu, including their stronger, darker offerings.  They have an impressive selection, and though not outstanding, they were all competent.  Two California beer snobs and homebrewers in the land of the macro brew were plenty happy.  Though they were really in the process of closing down, they were quite accommodating and friendly in the end.

Should we find ourselves in St. Louis again during daylight hours, we'd have no hesitation returning.
