The Sandwich Spot - name says it all. Perfect spot to grab a tasty sandwich for around $8. Tons of delicious choices and all ingredients taste very fresh. Veggie options are kinda limited but the ones they have are good. Favorite is the Jack Lucky (grilled chicken, bacon, avocado, pepper jack cheese and bomb sauce ... need i say more?).
Local Hint: On the busy weekends call in your order and then bring the sando's down to the Marina Greens or Fort Mason and enjoy the weather (good weather permitting of course)! -

With the Marina Deli. probably the best place in the Marina to get your sandwiches. First time I entered I felt a little out of place with the surf-vibe of the shop and the laid-back attitude of the people working here, but once you're through that the Sandwich Spot is a really nice shop.
They have a wide variety of sandwiches, all prepared on the go. They taste good and the price is right. The people working there are always in a good mood, so no reasons to not check it out sometime. -

Wow! By far the best sandwich spot I had in the Marina. Probably the one of the best in SF. This place is set up like a little tiki surf shop. Limited seating outdoors and bench seating at the windows. Very chill, friendly, hip little shop.
There was so many sandwiches to choose from and their famous for their "bomb ass" sauce which was this spicy kind of mayo.
I ordered the "hot chick" which was a spicy chicken sandwich. Oh man it was delicious! I really enjoyed the chicken they put in the sandwich. It was super juicy and spicy. Well marinated and full of flavor. It would still taste good on its own or on a salad.
Well done guys! Can't wait to come back for another sandwich! -

What a Sandwich. Easily a 5-star review but you might notice I left out one degree of separation. Every once in a while when a business such as "The Sandwich Spot" draws the kinds of crows only box office names draw you tend to lose sight of why you're really there. For the people, by the people right? No. The line was about 20 people deep with an easy 30+ minute wait. I finally got to the front of the line and the as the staff worked feverishly on the orders ahead of me (staff of 5 sandwich makers and 2 others running around in the background) not once did anyone greet me to let me know they'd be right with me. Granted I know this is San Francisco and trendy Marina peeps can't be bothered with a simple hello knowing that the majority of us are "Bridge & Tunnel" but I would still like service with a smile. Somehow this didn't sway my view on this fine establishment.
The food was good. I mean great! I got "The Freak" - Turkey, Bacon, Avocado, with all the fixins' and "the Bomb" spread. I ordered a fountain soda and some Dirty Chips = perfection. The food was meant to be eaten right away as the sandwich that I got was warmed. I took it to go with some friends and drove another 20 minutes north to enjoy some sunshine. The sandwich was still amazing. holding up it's warm with only a tad of soggyness in certain areas as the sauce leaked out of it's available cracks.
You need to experience this place for yourself. Half the wait of an "Ike's" and yet service still wreaks of noses in the air.Comment from Hank M. of The Sandwich Spot 4/17/2012

Review from Lori K.
These sandwiches are solid and some of the best I've had. I've been here a couple times now, and both times I've come hungry and left satisfied and completely stuffed.
They have a large variety of unique sandwiches to choose from. My favorite is the Jack Lucky (marinated chicken, bacon, avocado, cheese and bomb sauce). The chicken is really juicy! If you're a meat lover like my hubby, you'll love the Manwich (pastrami, roast beef, salami, cheese). I say go for the dutch crunch roll. It's one of the best tasting and crunchiest I've had.
The sandwiches are pretty big and stuffed with generous amounts of meat and fresh produce. I can usually down a sandwich on my own, but I struggle to finish these sandwiches. Last time, I was full for several hours after eating my sandwich... and that's saying a lot considering my stomach usually seems like a bottomless pit.
The shop is small and cozy. There are a couple small tables inside with a few seats at the counter. There are more tables outside. The staff is super friendly and the atmosphere is very chill. Pricing is average for a sandwich of this quality and size... between $7.50 - $8.00. Definitely worth it! If you're looking for a delicious and fulfilling sandwich, the Sandwich Spot is the place to go!Listed in: Sandwiches!

I love their sandwiches. They offer such a wide variety and their sandwiches definitely leave you full. If you ever try their bacon sandwich, oh my, I accidentally got doubled or tripled (I can't remember but it's the largest size) and whoa....TONS OF BACON! YUM!! :) I love how they are opened early which works well with me and the kids. Great and friendly staff. Definitely check them out!

AWESOME!!!
I wish I could come here all the time... but alas, I am 45 minutes away. Every time we're in the city, we'll be sure to stop by here. It is so worth it.
We happened to be riding through the Sandwich Spot's neighborhood yesterday, and checked yelp for nearby lunch places. So glad this came up and was only a block away from where our grumbling tummies stopped our bike ride. It was around 2:30, and there were about six people in line, but it moved very fast. Had enough time to find out what we wanted. I ordered a number 19- BOMB! The husband ordered an 11- BOMB! Oh man, we were so full and happy. -
Review from Joanna R.
Still incomparable to Lou's, but good. I need to come back when I won't embarrass myself by kicking the table by accident and spilling my drink all over the outside.
Unsure of myself, I got the hot chick. Yes, the hot chick. I recommend getting the sandwich combos because for practically just a dollar more, you get yourself a drink and chips. The sandwich in itself was pretty messy, but that never ever takes away from my reviews, at least in a bad way. It was tasty. It's interesting how all these San Fran shops have the strangest names for their food. Suits our city, I suppose! Haha.
Anywho, I got my sandwich on a dutch crunch which is pretty good and crunchy. Bomb sauce is not that spicy. Well, for me. I can't say the service is top notch, but they're not awful or anything. On the nicer side of the spectrum (:
Still on a quest for the best sandwiches in San Francisco.
(I gave up on the burger hunt... : / )
P.S. They take card. And seating is outside.Listed in: Sandwich Hunt

This place was SO good. One of the best sandwiches I've ever had. I got the Jack Lucky (chicken, bacon, avocado, cheese + their special sauce) for 8/9 bucks. Amazing.
I've only been here once but I will definitely be coming back. Thank you, Sandwich Spot.Comment from Hank M. of The Sandwich Spot 4/17/2012

Why aren't one of these specialty sandwich shops open near the ballpark? I mean they all have baseball players named after sandwiches and who wouldn't love one of these sandwiches before or after a Giants game??? Talk about hit the spot, but by the time you get to Ike's or The Sandwich Spot after a game you'll probably just want to take a nap its so far from the game.
It was your typical cold SF day, so I elected for the hot meatball sandwich and the Bobby the Blade, which is a hot turkey, bacon, avocado, cheddar and bomb sauce(spicy ranch). I elected for the sourdough on the Bobby the Blade, which is a roll just in case you are expecting sliced sourdough. Very Very good sourdough, was slightly crisp on the outside, soft on the inside. The Bomb sauce was perfect, slightly spicy and not to heavy on the ranch, then piled on the bacon, cheddar cheese, hot turkey and a nice crisp freshness of lettuce, tomatoes, pickles and peppers. I was thoroughly pleased.
Then the meatball sand, "my cousin vinny" as they call it. Keep in mind they put the entire sand in the oven, which gives your provolone a nice melt on the toasted bread of your choice. Topped with a yummy meatsauce and I never would have thought, but i loved the little pieces of banana peppers.
On a hot day, the surfer decor and openness of the Sandwich Spot is perfect to max, relax, sit out and have a cold one with your sand. Unfortunately this is SF and not Socal, so a hot day on the beach maybe much to ask for but at least you can enjoy the a solid sandwich and the decor.Listed in: San Francisco

What is "Bomb Sauce" at The Sandwich Spot?
I have no idea, because they forgot to put any on my sandwich. If it's really as good as other reviewers are raving, I'm sure it would've made my bland turkey-avocado-proscuitto sandwich on Dutch Crunch a lot better.Listed in: Greek Life Central - aka The…

If your girl has the class, taste and downright awesomeness to bring you a sandwich THIS good pre-napa road trip....she's a keeper. :-)
And I'm not sure which was better, the look on her face when she told me she told me she got me the "Man-wich", or my face when I took a bite on my way over the GG bridge.
I recall her saying "if we are ever going on any road trip or drive in this direction ever again and DON'T stop here first, I'll be really sad" and me agreeing emphatically.
There are so many options, I see a lot of trips up north in the near future.
(I would DEFINITELY pick up two-per-person if you are going as far north as Mendocino or Shasta tho, no question).
PS: make sure if you try to eat while driving:
(1) your hands are ALWAYS at 10 and "sandwich", and
(2) your co-pilot is awesome enough to tuck one napkin into your shirt, and another two into your pants, cuz some of these sandwiches can get messy in a hurry.Listed in: If you're stuck in the…

When The Sandwich Spot first opened, I made shallow judgements based on decor, sandwich names, etc., that it would be cheesy, frat-tastic and sizzle instead of steak. I was wrong -- the sandwiches are consistently good, the folks who work there are cool (and they have Zapp's and Dirty Chips).
It's as good or better than any of the other sandwich places in the neighborhood, and they have a really good variety. (Just wish that they had rye bread for the pastrami and Soul Surfer sandwiches....) I'm a fan and I hope they stick around the neighborhood for some time. -

Man this is the 'sandwich spot'. For 'bout $7-8 you get an 8 inch sub packed with thin slices of flavorful meats. The ingredients always taste fresh. I'm guessing they bake their own loaves. There are tons of sandwiches selections on the menu. Some are named after sf giants. I always get the pastrami combo - pastrami, tomatoes, lettuces, onions, mayo, pepper, and jalapenos on a soft, toasted baguette. I can remember juices dripping out each time I sank my teeth into slices of tender pastrami. Another place that's supposedly pretty good is Ike's in Castro. Haven't been there yet so I wouldn't know how that place will compare to this. But for now this place stars for their juicy sammiches and friendly service.

Took my first trip to the Sandwich Spot and was pleasantly surprised. Though the venue is small, the sandwiches are LARGE and tasty. I got the "Hot Chick" sandwich with everything on it. The bread was nice and soft and the marinated chicken was delicious. The bomb sauce was an excellent touch. I ate half of the sandwich during my lunch hour, took the other half back to the office for dinner, and proceeded to eat that second half the moment I sat down at my desk.
My only complaint is that the lettuce put on my sandwich was the Subway-like shredded iceberg type--not my favorite. I'm a fan of dark, leafy greens and spinach. Perhaps I needed to specifically suggest it. I'll do that on my next visit! -
Review from Alice L.
We picked up two sandwiches to go for a little beach picnic. They have a large selection of sandwiches and after much deliberation while waiting in the line, we decided on the Johnny Donson on dutch crunch and the hot chick (which was highly recommended on yelp) on sour dough.
We both loved the Johnny Donson and the dutch crunch bread was the best that I've ever had. It had such a great crust and a nice balance with the turkey and prosciutto. I would rank it was one of the best sandwiches out there. The hot girl wasn't all that great. I'm not sure if it's the sour dough or they put some weird sauce on it, but it was super sour, especially with the peppercini. Maybe with the sweetness of the dutch crunch, it would be better.
The place is busy so be prepared for a wait. The staff was friendly and the vibe was relaxing with all the surfer paraphernalia. I will be back! -

The sandwiches here are good. I would say if you are a vegetarian it will probably not be your favorite place though. I did find out that their is one sandwich option that is not on the board but if you go on their website its one of the the house specials and it was really good. It is called the "Mustache Ride" - mozzarella, tomatoes, basil and some yummy sauce all heated up. Since the meat eaters do love this place the line was kind of crazy. It took us about 40 minutes just to order.
The decor is really cool. It was very fun, hawaiian, surfer style. -

This place makes me so happy. They undeniably make the best sandwiches in San Francisco. If anyone thinks otherwise come see me and I'll fight you about it. It's such a bummer that they're tucked so far away from me that I can't get there often enough. I mean really, the Marina? Come to Potrero. Come to the DogPatch.
I always get the #1 and I'm never, ever disappointed. The bread is freshly baked, the topping are fresh and crisp, and everything melds together into one little bit of nirvana. And their cookies (which I always seem to get for free) are amazeballs. Now that drool is running down my face, I think I should end this review. -

Manwich, blavocado, how can you argue those. Hank is cool, buy food from him. Made it to moderate with a drink / chips. Sandwiches are very reasonably priced, especially for the size and quality.

I chose the Hot Chick. And I have to say that I was really impressed. The heat had a good kick to it and the chicken wasn't dry at all. My mistake was that I should have chosen a soft roll rather than the Dutch Crunch. I think it would have been even tastier. What was also pretty cool was the couple of guys working the spot. Friendly and courteous, I felt really comfortable beiing there. Unlike some of the sandwich establishments out there that make you feel like you should have known what you wanted before you walked through the doors. I will definitely come back to the Sandwich Spot and try some of the other sandwiches they have on the wall.

I was excited to come here today after finding TSS on Yelp and reading some reviews. However, when I got my hands on a Johnny Donson on wheat bread, I wasn't blown away. It's good, very good, but I still prefer Ike's. On the upside, I'm probably packing some 200-300 calories, so it's not bad after all.
The wait at 1:10pm wasn't bad at all, just 5 minutes, and I would have had a beer with it if I was dining in. I'll come back to give it another try. -

I don't quite see why this place has so many five-star reviews. They provide glorified Subway sandwiches. True, the workers were friendly, but almost in a forced Jamba Juice kinda way. Like they were pretending to be cool.
The sandwich certainly tasted good but was definitely overpriced. I got a side pasta salad, which was just alright. -

I ordered the Joey 2X4, which was good, but they forgot my BACON.
I was in a rush so I didn't check, but that's the reason I chose that one. It was a good sandwich anyway. I'd still come back to try another one.
-1 for lack of bacon. boo that almost ruined my sandwich. -

The vegetarian sandwich is awesome. However, I wouldn't mind if they got a little more wild and creative with the veggies. Whatever that secret sauce is... It's working. I think it's my new favorite sandwich spot, especially on a sunny day! The music, staff, and atmosphere is so chill. The one thing missing is an ocean view... Could you imagine?

Small little shop with quirky sandwich names and pretty funny guys who work there. My husband liked the Hot Chick but I liked the Naughty Nannie better - warm turkey sandwich with spicy ranch sauce.

The Sandwich Spot has very quickly become a viable sandwich option for me whenever I'm in the Marina District. I usually grab sandwiches to go and this shop is perfect for that. My sandwiches have been terrific and the portions generous.
The staff is friendly, giving samples upon request and making suggestions. The menu is vast and varied. These gentlemen seem intent on growing their business by giving excellent service. They are gracious but not uptight. The ambiance is casual and the music in the background uptempo.
During the lunch hour this place hops. The feel I get whenever I'm here is one of positive energy. The Sandwich Spot has that certain spark that exists whenever a place is vibrant and alive. I'm glad I found it. -
Review from Tina A.
Walked in here for the first time and had such great friendly service from the get go!
Told them to surprise me so they made me a #5 (cheese, turkey/chicken, avocado, tomato, onion, bacon, bomb sauce). it was a very good sandwich. Bomb sauce was not as garlicy or strong/thick as ikes dirty sauce but it still added some flavor. the bread was soft and warm and the meat was tender and not salty for being lunch meats. they sliced the raw onions thin just how i like it. tomatoes were fresh and the avocado was nicely scattered throughout the sandwich.
I was given a free drink and chips on the house for being an employee of the area (or a regular). the chips are the same ones you get at ike's (Dirty Potato Chips) however the Sandwich Spot has a wider selection of flavors. they even celebrated my first visit with a cookie with an umbrella on top! made me feel like it was my birthday! perhaps they were getting rid of the cookies because it was near closing time. i felt like a very special customer regardless.
i will be back here to have more random sandwiches when i float through the area! -

Oh yeah! Why anybody would ever step inside a Mr. Puddle's, Slumway, ToNo's, or like minded corporate pseudo-sando shop is beyond me. THE SANDWICH SPOT (hereafter referred to as simply TSS) is just as the sauce implies, the bomb!
Great location, great hipster staff, patio seating, cold beers on ice & one of the most original locally inspired sando menu I've come across in 20+ years. The owner Jack Lucky (aka. Hank Minkey) is one a helluva great guy & genius sandwich maker IMHO.
TSS deserves to break free of it's foggy beginnings & open up in the 925 & save us poor suburbanites from sandwich deprivation syndrome! (hint, hint Hank) -

Damn this place is amazing! One of the best sandwiches I've ever eaten. This is a place I'd drive across town to visit.
I had roast beef bacon concoction that was pure pleasure. I normally hate sauces on my sandwiches, but I chanced it and had their bomb sauce (spicy ranch) and it was delicious. Oh and teh fresh baked bread was gorgeous.
I rounded out the meal with a giant chocolate chip cookie that was so good it that should be illegal. It was huge, soft and just the right level of gooey in the middle. I don't even like chocolate, but these cookies could convert me!
The staff are so genuinely friendly and positive (Nick who served me was an absolute sweetheart) and they have outdoor seating.
So glad I found it! Now I only wish I lived closer. -

This joint has a refreshingly friendly Aloha spirit. The staff here are so nice and fun. People just popped in to say friendly hi's! What a nice community spirit. How sweet.
Their food is onolicious. Any sandwich on their dutch crunch roll is delectable with a soft center and a perfect outer crunch (I think the roll is also vegan!). I'm a cookie snob and their chocolate chip cookie wildly surpasses my high standards. -

After rock climbing at Planet Granite, we came here for lunch. I got the Hot Chick in medium spice. It was just hot enough for me. The sandwich was filled with chicken, lettuce, pickles, cheese and special sauce. I would want to try Cousin Vinnie, but I'm not sure how meatball subs/sandwiches are here. I lived in Philly and meatball subs is comfort food.

Hunger calls!
There was a longing deep in my stomach for fulfillment, joy and satisfaction- I needed a sandwich.
I stumbled upon The Sandwich Spot with no expectations. I was hungry and I wanted a sandwich. Figured The Sandwich Spot could fulfill this primal need for meat stuck in between two pieces of bread.
Not only did the person taking my order ask for my name and remember it, he introduced himself as well. Service was superb! I felt welcomed and cared for fully in my sandwich ordering process. I had already paid for my sandwich and asked if a drink and chips were included, silly me, I didn't read the signs about their lunch combo! The guy was so nice about it and explained the breakdown of price to me. When I mentioned it was my first time there, he gave me a free cookie on the house and thanked me for my business.
I happily waited for my sandwich, munching away on funky fusion chips.
The sandwich was great. In honor of yelp, I ordered The Duke. Ingredients fresh, bread was toasted to perfection and bomb sauce was bomb diggity. As I was savoring the first bite of my sandwich, the manager came out and asked me if I liked it. Mouth full, taste buds cheering, all I could do is nod and give him a big THUMBS UP.
This is a great neighborhood joint and the epitome of a great sandwich shop!!
