Casual little neighbourhood bar in Lonsdale.  Dead quiet on a weekend night (guess we missed their live music night).  Staff was prompt and friendly - and they have Wyborowa - sweet, few places have my favourite 'top-bottom-shelf' vodka.  I often get the 'Dude, are you retarded?' look when I ask for 'Vee-bur-row-va'.  Patio looks pretty nice too - should be good for some serious summer patio beers.

But seriously - I have to titter a bit when I see and think of the 'Rusty Gull'... am I the only one that thinks that it sounds like a euphemism for a complex sexual act?  Oh well - maybe I'm on the right track - I always wanted to open a bar and call it the 'Tokyo Sandblaster' - a place to meet liberated, open-minded consenting adults or nerdy Conan O'Brien fans.

Jam packed in on a Sunday night and a totally different crowd than what I normally see in east Vancouver, or anywhere in Vancouver actually!

The live band was really good. The service was slow but pleasant (it really was packed!). Lots of really drunk north shore folks. And repetitive chair stealing from our table.

Not the best scene for sure.

I have to say that it is the best place to go to hang out (and sometimes even dance) with friends without having to leave the North Vancouver Lower Lonsdale area. The waitress are fast, the live music is lively and highly danceable and they have some pretty original pub food. I just looove their thinly sliced and fried potatoes and spicy dip!

    SUNDAY night is Reggae night!

Can't say it's the best pub in the world (so I won't). Also, can't say it's the worst pub in the world (so.....). It's ok, if not charming....let's say it's a solid 3.5.

They have a nice patio w/ heat lamps so you don't freeze your bum off, they have some nice canadian beers that I'd never heard of, and the patrons who were there the night my cousin and I frequented the place were pretty laid back.

This is a really friendly little neighbourhood pub with decent food, cheap drinks, and good servers. The Rusty Gull no longer has a nice view of the Burrard Inlet from it's patio, but it's hardly their fault that a condo tower was built in front of them. I used to go here all the time when I lived in the neighbourhood, nowadays I'll still stop in when I'm in the area for a pint and some wings.

The layout is long and narrow, with a room in front with fireplace and booths, the bar in the centre, and a larger room in the back with a stage, dance floor, and more tables. The patio is out back; bathrooms all the way downstairs. Don't know why, but I have a fear of remotely placed washrooms.

On the weekends, there's usually a band. It's an older, blue-collar kind of crowd in here, so the bar bands usually play old rock and roll and blues, and the older women (cougar alert!) get out there on the floor and rock it out. Your other basic diversions here are sports and keno and pulltabs. It ain't fancy, but it's fun.

Only 2 stars.  Why?  It closed early, it was deserted and expensive.  Nice atmosphere though, and the patrons and barkeeps were very friendly.

Used to have a really nice balcony looking over downtown, then a condo was built and obstructed the view. Place is Ok.
