I am a huge fan, pure and simple. In a city of this size it is fantastic to see a restaurant finally offer organic and local food. The atmosphere, the music, the food and service keep me coming back on a weekly basis.
I walked into this restaurant for the first time about 2 months ago not knowing what to expect. All I can say is I am glad I decided to visit to make up my own mind. The food portions were perfect and the flavours - fantastic. Everything is prepared in a kitchen where you can watch them (should you choose to).
Since my initial visit I have re-visited The Root to taste everything on the menu, and I have loved every dish. The service is beyond comparing to any other restaurant I have visited in this city and is my favorite place to visit for lunch or supper. Aaron, Amy and the owner Amanda do everything to make you feel like you are part of their family. I completely agree with a previous reviewer that said it is worth a drive to eat here even if you are from a different city!
If you love eating healthy, organic, real food made fresh with amazing flavour then treat yourself to a meal here. You will not be disappointed. -

Pro tip: Call to see if they're serving food before you go.
A friend and I popped by for a late lunch/snack while out and about one day and they had stopped serving food (it was almost 2 pm and they stopped serving between 2-4pm the waitress said).
That being said, the empty cafe was quite enjoyable. The staff let us order coffee and a desert and then pretty much left us alone.
The place looked nice and I'd like to go back and try it for a dinner/evening thing. On fridays they do Polonesian dancing in a back room that I'm very tempted to go try.
Overall, worth going back. -

First I want to say that from what I've heard my experience was very different from most. Unfortunately, it was still a pretty negative experience. I loved the atmosphere when we first arrived, and love the relaxed feel that has been created.
The waitress who greeted us started with "Do you have a reservation?" NOT "Hello, how are you tonight?" We didn't. Her reactions was "Well, we're fully booked, I don't think we have anything ... I guess I can check." So, my friends and I are left feeling as if we're asking for a huge favor. They did have a table, but we started to debate whether or not we should stay. We had all been really looking forward to going there so we stayed.
Our experience continued to go down hill as the service was poor, and the food portions were small. So small we all walked away hungry. The food was tasty, but for what we paid I would hope to be taking food home not wanting to go to and grab a second meal to fill up.
I will go back as I'm hoping my second experience is better, and I can come back and change my review.
I would recommend going to listen to the live music, having drinks or coffee ... maybe just not for dinner.Comment from Amanda A. of The Root Community Emporium 3/8/2012

Welcome to the CITY Lloydminster. For anyone who has been to the tight and tiny, eclectic and trendy bistro in any cosmopolitan city, you'll be impressed that it now exists here. The root has local charm in that it exhibits locally sourced food on its menu from "home grown" beef, rabbit and Canada goose. It also features area beers and wine.
I was there on opening night and even with the frantic energy of wanting to get it all right, the atmosphere was relaxed and welcoming. Artist showcases display local work of area artists that are available for purchase. There is also a small stage for the jam sessions and open mic nights that host local bands and entertainers. It is amazing to see how much talent there is in Lloydminster.
In the back of the emporium, is a studio that will host classes, workshops and gatherings of folks wanting to learn something new from teachers instructing what they know - knitting, quilting, salsa dancing and more.
A great new, fresh and unexpected gem in Lloydminster. Way to go!Listed in: Best Date Nights

You won't believe you are in a small town in the prairies!
This place can rival any excellent restaurant in Paris!
The ambience in excellent. The menu is full of surprises, the service is excellent , price is reasonable, and you will fall in love with this place!
It's worth even a drive to Lloydminster just to eat in The Roots. -

With my job I often split my time between Edmonton and my hometown of Lloydminster (for those that don't know, a city 2hrs east of Edmonton). Up until the The Root opened, dining options were pretty lacking here, it was either pub food or local family restaurants where the menu is so huge that you know it's not all made fresh. Well welcome to The Root, owner Amanda definitely saw the whole in the market and filled it wonderfully! The menu is small and I love that they work with local farmers and meat producers to source as many ingredients as possible locally. The food is delicious and portion size is perfect as I had a salad, the small soup that comes with the entree (I went with the tortilla and it was super yummy!), and even desert after and never felt like I overate! I am so excited that they will be opening for lunch as I can only imagine the delicious options to choose from!
The decor and ambience is very modern meets retro, it has a warm feeling to it and it also doubles as a shop which carries pieces from local artists, which is very cool!
If you're ever passing through Lloydminster or from here this is definitely a must stop place!
