The Roost Farm Bakery is located on a hobby farm in North Saanich, right by the airport. And if you're hungry and just off the ferry or a plane, there are few better options for food in the area. And much of the food you eat, including the wheat, is actually grown on the farm. And if it's isn't grown on the farm, it's often grown or raised on the island.
Sandwiches are reasonably priced, overstuffed, and on the Roost Farm's bread, which has the consistency of my wife's grandmother's homemade bread. I especially recommend the hemp sunflower loaf.
A few caveats:
1) Their breakfast, while great, is only served until 11.
2) They only serve pizza starting at Noon, leaving an hour-long gap between Breakfast and Pizza.
3) Their pizza, while made in a wood-fired oven made out of clay was a bit soggy in the middle. While I love the Roost Farm's duck confit, I prefer their salad as a conduit for it over the pizza.
All in all, the Roost Farm is a great, unique island experience recommended for visitors and locals alike. -

this bakery is a perfect example of a friendly, clean, savory-eatin', farm-style bakery. The variety is good and the hot breakfast was amazing. What a nice place to visit for a business-breakfast meeting!

North of Victoria. Worth the drive. Fresh and delicious offerings. Brick oven on site serves up hand tossed pizza and baked goods. If the weather is right, dine outside at their pinic tables on the landscaped grounds. They even modified an old school bus for dining, kids love it. Or you can dine inside the establishment. For dessert, try their Nanaimo Bar! Best on the island.

Was involved in the launch of the pizza oven for the 2011 season and was most impressed by the Cowichan Duck Pizza. They fire up their pizza oven from Wednesday to Sunday and serve up glasses of local wine to enjoy along with the pizza. If you haven't been yet you are truly missing out.

Only had time to grab a smoked salmon sandwich and a cornish pastry as I was en route to the ferry terminal and both were terrific - healthy servings, friendly people and very high quality ingredients. I have to go back to try the other bakery items and the pizza but first impressions are that this is a great place to grab lunch if you don't mind a 25 min drive out of Victoria.

Amazing food and a real farm house experience. My absolute favorite is their meatloaf sandwich on dark rye or cheese and onion bread and the people friendly organic coffee, but all their sandwiches are great. They've also got daily soups and other bakery type goodies. They make their own breads from scratch and you can buy a loaf if you liked it on your sandwich.
During the lunch rush it can get quite busy because so many of the locals love this place, but the line moves fairly quickly and there's always lots of seating. You can sit inside or outside or even in a retrofitted bus! This place has loads of character, and sometimes even the odd farm animal roaming around outside. -
