I cant believe no one has reviewed this place yet on Vancouver Island! I went here because it was one of the recommended places on Vancouver Island in a Seattle Times article in the Travel section. Boy, was it worth it--in fact, it is my favorite place for breakfast or lunch in CANADA so far! They have the best multi-grain bread (and they can cut it in thick slices for you) which they make with wheat made from their own wheat mill. People like to watch them working on the wheat mill.

Everything is homemade for sure here. The Roost Farm is a little farm owned by a family. It gets really busy in the morning and their food staff is friendly and efficient. I also tried their homemade soup, and various of their scrumptious sweet and savory pastries--they are top rate. Of course like many farms on Vancouver Island they sell fresh eggs straight from their own chickens! And dont forget the variety of their espressos and instant brews--on a cold Vancouver day, the coffee was even that much better!

Amazing food and a real farm house experience. My absolute favorite is their meatloaf sandwich on dark rye or cheese and onion bread and the people friendly organic coffee, but all their sandwiches are great. They've also got daily soups and other bakery type goodies. They make their own breads from scratch and you can buy a loaf if you liked it on your sandwich.

During the lunch rush it can get quite busy because so many of the locals love this place, but the line moves fairly quickly and there's always lots of seating. You can sit inside or outside or even in a retrofitted bus! This place has loads of character, and sometimes even the odd farm animal roaming around outside.

Specialties

The Roost Farm Centre is home to a unique bakery, garden Market* and gift shop. The Roost is located on Highland House Farm, a 10 acre hobby farm located at the corner of McTavish and East Saanich Roads, in North Saanich BC.

The bakery serves up farm fresh breakfast, hearty soups and sandwiches, salads, quiche, breads, pies and other sweet treats.  We also serve thin crust pizza from our wood fired pizza oven**!  We are one of the only places in Canada that grows and mills our own wheat on site for use in our bread and baked goods.

Meet the Business Owner: Dallas and Sarah b.

If you are a frequent visitor of the Roost, you may have seen some new faces as of late. So we thought it time to properly introduce ourselves and our team.  I have heard, this past year, us referred to as "the new owners' but in reality it might be said we are the original. Sarah and her Dad , Hamish, came up with the concept many years ago and developed the idea as they searched out people with the same vision. Darlene Robertson was a kindred spirit and soon the excitement grew. Sarah often tells of the grand opening in 2001 where they had 6 coffee cups and 6 plates, thinking it would be a good start. When the doors were opened it became very apparent that more were needed..
