This is a dowtown essential in my books. It's a must-go, it's a go-to, it's... well you get the point. Just when you thought places like this were going extinct, you come into a huge warehouse-feeling place and you're at home. For the punks, the metal heads, the grunge lovers, the soft punkers, the old school rap fans, the hard rockers, this is where you belong. If this place doesn't have a single band you like, a single pin that makes you smirk, a single belt buckle/cuff/purse or pair of shades that you think you could rock, then I question the worth of your existence. I love the t-shirts overwhelmingly lining the walls and the chill clerks and the music they play in store. The merch is pricey, I wont deny, but considering what you're buying is it really so bad? Where else are you going to find these original rock tops?

Went here to buy a few Christmas gifts.
I was disappointed to find that they don't sell gift certificates or gift cards.
They also do not give refunds - exchange only ( with receipt of course ) which can make returns/exchanges a bit of a pain in the ass.
On the upside - the selection is vast, and I was served fairly quickly.
The guy who helped me was ok - he showed me a variety of shirts, and I chose one that turned out to be a hit.
I happened to see a hoody that I thought my bf might like. I bought it, but sadly, it didn't fit quite right. Off now to see just how good the customer service will be when doing an exchange. Stay tuned ! -

I've been shopping here for years, since grade 9. I've seen the styles from band shirts go from awesome to really boring. This is the reason why I shop here very less as the years progress. It has nothing to do with the store itself as there's tons of bands, however, bottom line is that the bands don't care about appealing designs anymore. I will go for the classic rock band shirts 'cause they're iconic, however, the newer bands need to put in a bit more effort in the art department, especially when shirts cost $27 average.
I don't find the prices over priced considering that concert t-shirts, most that don't even have city listing names and are horribly designed cost $40, $80 if you're lucky for a hoodie.
The owners are super nice and awesome to just chat with when you have no other plans.
I've only bought shirts here, no accessories, patches or stickers. -

I love this place ever since I heard about it! Been going here for the last few years now for all my "rock" needs. I'm a bit past the rebellious days now, but my love for heavy metal is far from gone.
Rock Shop is one of the few I can find band shirts that I can't seem to find anywhere else! I also like the fact that it's an indie store which adds to the whole "rock" deal!Listed in: Shop local

I'M SO ANGRY, UNIQUE, COUNTER-CULTURE. I WEAR SKULLS!!!
Quick, to the Rock Shop, hideous and overpriced, this place really stocks the finest.
Yes indeed, If you're in high school, have few friend and are often picked on, best opt for a crazy new style. Instead of conforming, go rebellious, wear clothing that every other 'rebel wears'.
Unless you're being ironic, please don't shop here. It's hard enough to earn my respect, exit this place, and it's foregone. Or, it's just gone. -

This is an essential shop for the rock god/rock fan in all of us. If you like a band, and you want the t-shirt/poster/belt buckle, the Rock Shop is where to get it. The walls are covered in T-shirts and posters, so it's a lot of fun to come in and browse and reminisce about my Nirvana obsession or my Bon Jovi-poster owning misspent youth.
My husband has been buying quite a few Beatles T-shirts lately, and he's gotten me some very cool Queen T-shirts as well. I can attest that they carry some good quality, multiple wash withstanding goods in sizes for both the big boys and the smaller ladies.
As you might expect, there's always something good on the stereo here. Fist pumping, yeahs! for the Rock Shop. -

So much selection it could take all day to go through it all, and not just the t-shirts...
It's sometimes hard to find good accessories to wear to Sanctuary/Sin City, but they have tons. Or if I just want to lounge around in my favourite bands tee, this is my first stop...
Prices are great, which makes me wonder about the other comments (Darien C. & Simon R.). $24-$30 for a licensed band shirt sounds awesome to me. And $50 for a hoodie? Better price than some other skater brand hoodies go for. And much cheaper than at concerts.
Wanted to point out Cameron M.'s comment was for the store on Hastings, which this page isn't for. This one's for the one on Granville Street...
Would like to address the hate comments from some of the reviews. If it's not your thing, no need to put it down. Just move on. Everyone has their own personal styles and tastes... -

The rock shop is definitely one of the weirder places on the Hastings strip. It has morphed from a t-shirt store to a bong store and now sits as something kind of in between.
What most of the previous reviews say are right. For one, it's definitely expensive. Clothes aren't generally cheap to come by in Vancouver but this place stands out a bit. That said, it is one of the few places that caters specifically to Rock apparel and has just about everything you'd want selection-wise.
So yeah, I don't know if I could suggest it for just some random shopper. But, if you're absolutely bonkers for some band and can't find their shirts or giftware anywhere, you're likely to find it here. -

The appropriation of Rock music to reflect one's own image is something particularly enticing for teenagers, and this store takes full advantage of this cultural phenomenon by charging $40 for a Megadeth shirt and $60 for a hoodie with an Insane Clown Posse patch sewn onto the center.
But it's not really that much worse than any other sub-culture's own effort to define itself by wearing ridiculously garish clothing, this one is just a little pathetic in it's association to death themed anger. Everything here is wannabe macabre, with skull jewelry, skull backpacks, skull toques, and plain skull replicas.
Lots of death metal clothing (on black fabric only), but the sad truth is that you could easily just print off the design at home and stick it onto a t-shirt you already own. It might feel weird getting your mom to help you iron on the emblem of a drug-using-skeleton-in-a-graveyard onto your favorite grey T-shirt, but you'll save like $35 bucks. And if you're ripping off Metallica, that copyright violation totally sticks it to that douche bag Lars Ulrich. -

Unlike some of the other pretentious reviews from people who obviously aren't involved in the Vancouver rock/metal scene I've got to say the Rock Shop is a decent stop on the Granville strip. It has an eclectic collection of all things rock and heavy metal and a decent vibe to the place. Of the few stores of this type in the Vancouver area this one is worth stopping at if you're into the music and culture it caters to.

I was very impressed by their selection. I'm from a smaller town where our only option for rock tshirts is Hot Topic, or buying blind from the internet. They have a diverse range of musical genres (not just death metal as someone had suggested). I was thrilled to find T. Rex, Thin Lizzy, Roxy Music, etc. Plus stuff for my teenaged daughter (System of a Down, Sublime). They have a small dressing room, too. Be sure to ask for what you want. The day I went there was nothing displayed for David Bowie, but I asked and they found me a Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders from Mars tshirt. Yeah, it cost me $32, but its a Ziggy Stardust shirt! Priceless!
