Been coming here for about 25 years and have seen the cyclical nature of the menu and, by extension, pub quality go up and down. We are on a down cycle right now. Maybe it's tied to the stock market? They had a new chef a year or two ago who shook things up then left. Instead of going back to the tried and true menu, they pared it down to fewer gastropub items. I really miss the Mexiburger and Crimson Tide burger. And the Jack Daniels ribs. Talked one night to the new co-managers who are sincerely interested in improving the place - like hosting cask nights, which I am all over. But they had better work on that menu.

    Oh well.
I'm just not excited about The Raven. A while back I heard that they had a new chef and there were more gluten free items on the menu. We arrived there today to find that the 'new' chef has also fled the coup and there have been further menu changes.
I was hopeful when I saw a Pulled Pork item, but it is not gluten free, (BOOoo!)
I had the Salmon on a salad and it was nice, and nabbed some fries off friend's plates and those were good.
    The burger looked pretty yummy though and WOW I don't know where they got such gorgeous buns. No, I don't mean the servers. ;}

Anyways, I'm sure you'll like The Raven, but I guess I just don't.

I can hardly believe I paid 14.99 for their weak excuse for a Cobb Salad. Hardly any  blue cheese or avocado and not even half a chicken breast. Total rip off.

    The pizza was decent.

The server was nice, but the service was very slow even though the place wasn't busy.

Too bad it's disappointing. This area needs more restaurant options.

I recently got a message from the owner about a new chef (he's fancy, he used to work at places like Le Crocodile and Coast) taking over my beloved Raven so a group of us decided to check out the new menu (and make sure they hadn't messed with it too much). Plus, I just bought a daily coupon on Good News that was begging to be used (side note: the Raven used an excerpt from my original review on their coupon page. ha! Awesome).

The new menu is pretty decent, there's a lot of new stuff and they've pared back the pizza menu (boo), it's definitely got more of a "gastro-pub" feel to it now. A couple friends got pizzas and I got to sample them so I can safely and with relief say that the pizza is still just as good as ever. Since I had the coupon I decided to order the lobster and crab gnocchi, which was really quite good. I don't think it was worth the $18.99 price tag but definitely tasty and I'm glad I tried it since without the coupon there's no way I would have ordered something that expensive at a pub (though I would have ALWAYS considered ordering it cause I'm a sucker for seafood pasta). I also had a little bite of the boyfriend's pulled pork sandwich and it was pretty good.

Oh, and one of my friends tried to use the Yelp offer (free appetizer when you come in with a group blah blah) and the waitress had no idea what she was talking about, even after looking at the offer on her phone - I guess the owner hadn't let any of the staff know about it? The offer did get honoured but there was confusion about it. Hopefully they've worked out that little kink now.

Also, they've added A LOT of tv's to the place, which is not an improvement, it's just distracting. I guess if you're there to watch a game of some sort it would be good but the number of tv's seemed like overkill to me.

Overall it was still good and the beer list is still a-ok but I'm just a wee bit disappointed. Then again, maybe I'm just not a huge fan of change. But I'll always go back for the pizza!

Not impressed with my first and last time at The Raven.

First off...it's gross...there was some kind of leak in the roof inside and it was covered over with a garbage bag taped to the ceiling.

The service by both the kitchen staff, bar staff and the wait staff was a total joke!  I ordered a pop...it came with some kind of fruit peel in it (not supposed to be inside the glass.)  I asked for a new one!

I ordered a burger with no mustard and a ceasar salad on the side...my burger came with no ceasar salad...just fries...so I asked to make sure it wasn't on the bill...so I ate a few fries and went to dig into my burger...as I picked it up I noticed that there was a big blob of mustard on the lettuce (I hate mustard...which is why I ordered it without mustard) so I opened the burger to inspect it...the "chef" had put mustard on my burger...then saw that the order was for no mustard...so they scraped the mustard off my burger...leaving remnants on the burger and bun!  That is not acceptable...so I sent back my mustard scraped burger for a new one!  In the meantime my companion ate his lunch by himself...while I sat there starving!  The waitress could have brought me a ceasar salad while I waited...but was far too busy chatting at the bar to care.  When my new no-mustard burger arrived...1/4 of it wasn't cooked cause they rushed the order!

Nothing was taken off my bill for my trouble...not even the pop!

I will never return...and you shouldn't bother...it's not worth the drive!

The Raven is a great neighbourhood pub. I went with a few friends, and although the noise volume was a bit loud we were still able to have a conversation without actually yelling. Our server was awesome, attentive - and I loved the drink specials (hello crantini on special!) - although one drink was mis-served, lemon drop vs lemon rasberry drop... at least the all have alcohol!

The piece d'resistance for me was I am a wheat intolerant (or biggoted against wheat as I like to say), and one of my friends a vegetarian. Mix that with two guys who just want burgers and beers. And just like gangbusters we were all able to order something we happily ate (although I did shoot daggers at my boyfriend over his burger, it looked fantastic and really made me want to eat one).

All in all - I rate this 4 neighbours out of 5 for neighbourliness.

I got delivery, so I'm hoping the food in-pub is much better than when it's delivered to my home 5 km's away.

The burger was pretty great, I wolfed it down in about 3 minutes. The fries were a bit soggy but that was to be expected.

I got the Raven salad with $5 salmon fillet added on. The salad was pathetic - basically the same "variety salad" bag you can buy at the grocery store for $3. The salmon was disgusting - WE ARE IN VANCOUVER - there is NO reason to overcook a piece of salmon such that it could double as a hockey puck. I took less than one bite before just throwing it and the whole salad away. Worst $15 I ever spent on a freaking salad.

Overall, I was very very disappointed. The fact that my bill was $35 for a burger, handful of fries and the most pathetic excuse for a salmon salad is shocking.

Guess that's what I get for being lazy and not wanting to go out in the rain to get groceries. Lesson learned.

The Raven is not as good as it used to be any more (hey! Fix your sign!) but it's still a nice enough neighbourhood pub. For example, the former three or four page draft beer menu with lots of obscure microbrews is now down to a page-and-a-half greatest hits list of imports and domestics, with some Big Rock and Granville Island thrown in for esses and gees. I guess I can see the business sense of it, but it's not as much fun.

Happily, the food is still as good as ever - my big Raven Burger was deelish, and my friend's fish and chips looked very appetizing as well. I was curious to see if the legendary (in the Cove, anyway) Raven pizzas were holding up, but no one wanted to share one. Bummah.

Service could have been a bit snappier ... coffees went unrefilled for insane stretches of time and our server was nowhere to be found when we needed the check and/or change.

I still love the room with its natural light and fireplaces. And the company? Awesome girls.

This shabby little place is a neighborhood dive bar/pub where the locals go to get a beer. It's dim, It's old, It's laid-back with a hint of grimey. The calamari and the hot wings we ordered were edible, but defeinitely way under par. I suggest just sticking to drinks here, a beer after a day out on the water..

Our friend took us to this pub yesterday afternoon and it was quite a treat. Thursday night is ladies night and half litre wine is under 10 bucks. The other specials were very affordable and the food was delicious. I have never had fresh from scratch pizza like that from a pub in my life. So tasty. Big screen for the hockey game and a comfy atmosphere added to my enjoyment of this establishment. Plenty of parking in the rear, live music, a beer and wine store upstairs, great menu, and they even have delivery for all of it. What a hidden gem.

this place is amazing!! i wish it wasn't so far away. great wine deals, the platter for 3 is awesome (nachos, spinach & artichoke dip with pita, fresh veggies with dip), delicious (!!!!) pizzas, great for hockey and very attentive and friendly service.
we ordered a large pizza but got a small. the waitress was very sorry and apologized right when she was bringing it out and offered another small one free of charge.
a bigger table made sure they weren't sitting in front of the screen cos they noticed we were there to watch the game... that would never happen to you in a pub downtown!

wish i could come here regularly. i'm curious about their brunch

Popular neighbourhood bar in Deep Cove - we've been a couple times when they were at capacity, and we couldn't get in. Food is pretty good; they do a decent pizza and the portions are huge. It's a popular place to watch the game, so if you're looking for quiet on a Big Sporting Night then this isn't the place to be.

i often visit the Raven as I only live up the road, the food is usually pretty decent although tonight was a bad one. I ordered some food over the phone (pulled pork sandwhich with the goat cheese salad and a side of yam fries.) total 26 bucks.....what i got was the sandwhich with a side of yam fries, for an extra 2 bucks there was litterally about 20 fries, and instead of the sandwhich with a side salad i got the sandwhich w side yam fries and a whole goat cheese salad. The salad was pathetic. super small and basically just the lettuce. the worst part was that they didn't even put any goat cheese on it but I was already home when I opened the boxes. Personally I think the server should check the order that I am tipping her for before she gives it to me. Oh well. I was going to email them but couldn't find an address.
