Review from Kat F.
I was saddened to learn the news of Queen Of Tarts' closure (http://www.queenoftart...) at the end of 2009. Still one of the city's best lemon tarts, and always a delight to visit when on the lookout for special party treats and baking supplies.
Here's hoping it wasn't the seemingly endless water main construction along Roncesvalles that did them in.Listed in: The Most Sinfully Decadent…, Places That Have Recently…

The Queen of Tarts has stole my heart.....
While the construction on Roncesvalles right now is hell on wheels to get through, the minute you walk through the door of the QofT's you'll know it was worth every single dust swirl you inhaled getting here. The smell of baking alone that greets you with a big warm hello, come on in, is absolutely heavenly. Tarts abound and as my husband Dennis would say "I just love tarts!" :)
Before the onslaught of the cupcake tsunami places like Wanda's, Clafouti, Dufflets, Ma Maison and QofT's were baking up these incredible desserts and tarts. The tart case is the highlight in the store and The Queen of Tarts delivers in a big, big way. There is something for everybody. Whatever floats your sweet tooth, be it chocolate, fruit, nuts, custard or incredible pastry, you'll find it here. Callebaut chocolate is what they use and that'll give you an idea of the calibre of the product. There is no compromise on quality and product in this shop. For that, there is accordingly a price tag. It is, however, so worth it and you'll know it in every single nodule of goodness you gobble up.
I bought fresh peach tarts which were absolutely perfect. Poached peaches, sliced atop a cookie based crust, filled with custard and a raspberry coulis. Give me a second here, I need to wipe up the drool strings as I recall these delights. Calling these tarts is a bit of misnomer because they are practically mini-flans. They are big in girth and can pretty much serve two at once....that is unless of course you are eating with my FARC partner, Deanna.
Cookies are just the icing on the cake. Whimsical and endearing cookies adorn the store and you can pretty much find a cookie to suit any special occasion. Baking supplies are also available. As usual, being a good Elite Yelper, I've attached a couple of pics. You'll see for yourself how ripe the peaches that they poached were as how golden red the edges of them are. Oh gawd...here goes the salivation again.... -

Being someone who bakes religiously, I was often chastised for not going to The Queen of Tarts for a hit of sweet since I moved to Toronto. Truth be told, I wouldn't call myself a tart fan or a fan of traveling all the way to the west-end just to sample a dessert. So when I found myself in the neighbourhood, I went in to see what all the fuss was about.
Their display case was impressive to say the least - colourful, seductive and hard to decide. I asked the owner which tart was most popular and she was very helpful by asking me what I was in the mood for ('a classic twist to chocolate' was my answer). She then proceeded to make suggestions that enticed me and Lord know with how delectable those looked, I could only handle one. What I liked most of her descriptions of each tart suggestion was her clear passion for her craft. I respect that.
The Turtle Truffle Tart was what I went with (which almost lost a battle to the chocolate raspberry ganache one). It was a perfect blend of rich and creamy chocolate and caramel with pecans to boots. A sheer decadence!
Despite the long trek I have to make to get there, I will most likely be back (oh chocolate raspberry ganache, I'm looking at you!) but frequent visits cannot become a habit of mine.Listed in: The Great Dessert Seduction

I bought my friend a Barack Obama gingerbread man from here, which she later confirmed-- after eating his legs-- tasted like change (Yes We Can!).
What a great bakery! Sweet baby jesus (the little one, in the manager) there are so many goodies, it's just so hard to choose! You could go with one of their very wicked gingerbread people (spiderman, snowman, and many more) or their cookies (the peanut butter ones have big hunks of peanut in them) or the tarts, of course the tarts.
I, however, went in another direction on my last visit and bought the coconut marshmallow squares, which are giant hunks of marshmallow sprinkled with toasted coconut. Oh deary me. They were fantastic. And gone. Very fast. -

I agree with Kat and Kim - great place, killer tarts! Just add two more bits of context:
1. you can get montreal style bagels on the weekends.
2. it's NOT a cheap place. The high end tarts are priced in the high end. -

I absolutely loved this place, and i was shocked when I went there yesterday for a tart and saw that they are closed. Queen of Tarts truly was one of the best bakeries in the city.
