Clearly thee best protein baked goods ever! I thought Energy Kitchen's protein brownie was the best but this place seriously is a piece of heaven.
People need to be aware that this isn't something you are allowed to eat daily but when you're craving chocolate or cookies this is the place to get your low in sugar/fat brownie or cookie.Comment from stephen l. of The Protein Bakery 5/8/2012

I guess this will be the ghost writer for my boyfriend for this review. I enjoy their products but nowhere near as much as my boyfriend, and (I'm sorry protein bakery, no offense), I'd much rather have a regular butter and sugar loaded brownie.
He hearts this place. He hearts this place lots :) I got him the yelp deal voucher for christmas and I think he was more excited about this gift than anything else I got him. The desserts from here are a god send for people who want to enjoy dessert without feeling the guilt afterwards.
Their website is easy to navigate and ordering is a snap. When I called to question how I was to redeem the voucher online, the rep was friendly and helpful.

I got a variety of cookies and brownies through a Gilt City coupon. I requested no nuts and they mostly complied. I forgot to put the voucher number in when I placed the order so I called to correct the error. The guy on the phone was super nice and my treats were delivered the following week.
So far, I've tried the oatmeal chocolate chip and the pumpkin walnut cookies, as well as the blondie with chocolate and white chocolate chips. All of them were really good and I'm looking forward to trying the mint chocolate chip and the peanut butter brownies. Tintin devoured the oatmeal cranberry cookies so I am guessing he liked them.
I foresee another order in the near future.Comment from stephen l. of The Protein Bakery 11/22/2011

Well I ordered 2 Peanut Butter Cookie tins via a LivingSocial deal, a $30 coupon to spend at The Protein Bakery. I actually got a call from Stephen Lincoln confirming my order and asking me if I wanted to opt out of getting the tins, which I agreed was a waste since they would end up in the trash anyway. "Me want cookie" is what I told him and he gladly obliged. He definitely has great phone manners, he left a clear, concise and coherent message for me regarding the order. It was shipped super fast I basically got it next day. I just ate a few cookies today, and they are absolutely awesome, and they also got Mom's seal of approval as well.

Everything I've tried has been delicious! You could put these on a dessert table at a party and nobody would realize they are a healthIER version of your typical desserts.
As others have noted, these are a treat, and not something to be consumed like a protein supplement or part of your normal diet to lose weight. They are a great treat because they are much more filling then regular cookies and brownies.
However, I'm going to have to correct Jean G. She compared the Protein Bakery items to Starbucks Double Chocolate Brownie. Both are comparable in size (Starbucks Brownie=92g, PB Brownie=85g). While she is correct that PB items have a higher saturated fat content then her example, (11-12g v. 7g), the sugar content in Protein Bakery Brownies (and all of their items) is MUCH lower. Starbucks Brownie=30g of sugar! ...whereas the Protein Bakery brownies range from only 4g-10g of sugar (peanut butter cookie has as low as 2g and and highest sugar content was in the PB black & white blondie-12g). The fiber content in the Starbucks v. PB brownies is about the same. The protein content is definitely higher in the Protein Bakery items. Starbucks-6g, PB Brownies=11-12g. (Protein Bakery Peanut Butter cookie has 17g of Protein with only 9g sat. fat. and 7g of sugar!).
Because of these items having more protein, you also don't feel the need to eat multiple items. They are extremely filling. In fact, I'll usually treat myself to just 1 small cookie, or half of the large cookie, brownie, or blondie. Also, these are gluten-free.
When you want to treat yourself to a dessert, you have to pick your battles. Although the fat may be higher in these items, you are getting much less carbs, sugars and a lot more protein, so you're aren't going to down 10 of these like you would oreos.Comment from stephen l. of The Protein Bakery 8/1/2011

As part of Groupon's $1 dollar lunches one can get a pretty good lunch for almost nothing. This particular day I bought one for the Protein Bakery because I had already eaten lunch and sweets are always sweet no?
As people have already noted it is a very nondescript building and at night everything looks creepier. But man oh man you go in, get on that elevator to that 3rd floor of empty apartments and you get to a little closet of heaven.
It looks like a packaging company but they do sell to you right there and everyone is truly friendly. Helpful yet I feel bad I didn't bother to learn their names. It was almost five and since they close at that time I kinda wanted to hurry up, it was about ten minutes later that I realized they were so helpful they weren't in a hurry to close and make you leave.
Sigh, where to truly start:
EVERYTHING was yummy, tasted heavenly AND was very filling. The Favs- Pumpkin Walnut Blondie, Espresso Brownie, Peanut Butter White Chip Cookies, Oatmeal Cranberries Cookies. Second best-Coconut Walnut Dark Chip Blondie and the Chocolate Chocolate Cherry Cookie.
*NOTE* the second best are only so because the Favs are so flipping good people! by good I mean I purchased all of these Friday and by Sat night I had eaten all- with the help of a sad friend, but still between the two of us it was a lot. S
Their taste is so great, that I'm upset writing this. I am now a loyal customer and will be going back (also because I get a dollar off each item ^_^!). The reason for my sadness is that I want them to be big, I'm gonna spread the word, starting here of course but I hope their quality, quantity and love for their product (because you can really taste it) doesn't wane.Comment from stephen l. of The Protein Bakery 11/20/2011

I REALLY like their products and the owner, Stephen LIncoln, is
very friendly and seems to know about nutrition. Unfortunately,
the cost of mailing their cookies from NYC to LA is a bit
expensive, so unless there is a coupon offer, I have to
refrain from enjoying the espeicaly good Gigantic OATMEAL

and taste first rate. Boo hoo The products are carried
in certain local retail outlets, but I have no idea where

I eat a lot of sweets, people, and I was not disappointed. I tried the chocolate chocolate cherry cookie (palm-sized) and the coconut walnut chocolate chip blondie. The blondie came from a special jar where the center-cut, gooier brownies and blondies are stored for those who prefer them. I ate the blondie in the stairwell going back downstairs between floors three and two, making eye contact with no one. It was so good the pants almost fell off me. Later, I tasted the chocolate cherry cookie, which has the ideal soft, chewy texture, and the flavor was perfect. The cookie went to ELEVEN. I somehow saved half for later.
As another reviewer pointed out, Protein Bakery brownies, blondies and cookies taste so good, they could pass as regular sweets. But, they're not. PB treats are very low in carbohydrates and sugars, and are made with natural butter. There's no substitute for the taste and texture of butter in baked goods. For another nutrition comparison, Starbucks chocolate chunk cookie is the same size as the chocolate chocolate cherry PB cookie, but the Starbucks version has 90 calories more than the PB cookie, along with twice as much carbohydrate and less than half the protein and fiber. They're both desserts, but one is significantly healthier than the other.
The retail store front is indeed on the third floor of the building (stairs to the right of the elevator - take 'em). You'll find it, but check the hours before you go.Comment from stephen l. of The Protein Bakery 8/7/2011

As a registered dietitian, PhD in Exercise Nutrition, and experienced sports nutritionist, I will tell you that the nutrition profile of the products is miserable. The brownies literally have more saturated fat AND sugar than a Starbucks double chocolate brownie.
It is misleading to market these products as high-protein or healthful. If you choose to eat these products, please understand that you are eating a dessert, which is not high in fiber or protein (as defined by the FDA).Comment from stephen l. of The Protein Bakery 7/30/2011

I tried them out with a Groupon deal and was a little nervous when I got there. The building is a non-descript office/residential looking place and there's no noticeable signage. I almost gave up and ran away, but I am *so* incredibly glad I didn't. When I finally worked up my courage to go in, I was assaulted with wonderful sights and the nicest person ever. The owner was welcoming, friendly and really helpful. There was certainly no looking down on me because I'd come using a coupon, and he even had a sheet which listed how much of what I could get of each thing so I didn't have to do the math on the fly! He explained what each thing was, which ones were his best sellers and then left me to browse with no pressure. I haven't had this good a retail experience in a long time.
....And then I tasted the Wicked Mint Brownie. He could have screamed at me and I'd still be going back. It's INCREDIBLE. I can't wait to taste all the other delicious things he makes!Comment from stephen l. of The Protein Bakery 11/19/2011

Recently ordered a bakers choice package as part of a online deal- I have never been to the store though I've heard so much about these magical protein based brownies that I had to try it!
I called up, gave them my deal code and within a day I had my order! The rep was pleasant and it was so easy placing the order!
Overall, it's not the healthiest if you're being hard core extremely strict to your diet but let's be honest it's the healthiest and tastiest when it comes to cookies and brownies!

(The rating is really just for the Blondie I tried - the other goodies did not look good at all, but I can't say because I haven't tried.)
Saw these Protein Bakery brownies and blondies in the Elixir in the WFC - I'm a serious brownie addict but the walnut brownies just looked so unappealing in their wrapping, and I'm not a fan of walnuts in my baked goods in general, so I passed.
I did, however, pick up the Coconut Chocolate Chip Blondie to try - and I was pleasantly surprised! The texture is moist and chewy, and the flavor is just like a normal blondie - you'd have no idea that it has a ton of whey protein and is gluten-free! It's not mind-blowingly delicious taste-wise, but the texture achieved by using rolled oats instead of flour is amazing! -

The scene: Josh at 3:17 A.M., at my local bodega, barely able to walk or talk coherently.
The suspect: A white, semi-sweet and dark chocolate chip blondie from this supposed "Protein bakery".
The verdict: SLIGHTLY UNHEALTHY BUT TOTES DELICIOUS.
While some of their stuff is definitely healthier than your average manufactured baked good it's still kind of calorific! The cookies and blondies I've had from them are really good though. Apparently the blondie has 11g of whey protein, but you'd never be able to taste it. And a bottle of wine and some vodka later, I think it's a far better indiscretion than the weird chemically-softened faux fresh baked packaged cookies. Kudos to this place for trying to do yummy sweets that aren't half bad for you...and succeeding.Comment from stephen l. of The Protein Bakery 7/29/2011

Having gotten a sampler, I'll break my review down into two sections:
Taste (with suggestions) and Website/Customer Service (with suggestions). I still 5 starred them because the product is amazing, and although the "service" portion of the website is a pain, it won't keep me from ordering in the future.
TASTE:
Recently, I purchased a Bakers Box through KGB deals, and I can say first and foremost that these baked treats are TASTY! SO much so, that the day they came in, I ordered another Brownie sampler and cookie sampler direct from their site (and that's where most of my gripes came in)
High quality ingredients, protein, low sugar, and that special ingredient... FLAVOR!
Brownies: Far less sweet than a typical brownie, I think this is why you have a lot of folks saying they aren't a fan. Also, the texture is a little more... I don't know... Chalky? If something could be done to "fudge-ify" these things, I think it would bring a lot to the table, but as they are I think of them more as a chocolate scone. Flaky, buttery and great with a cup of coffee...Especially the wicked mint...GOOD LORD, it's tasty!
Blondies: They seem to not suffer the break-apart fate of the Brownie treats. They have a much denser and sweeter quality about them, and they are really good. My only qualm is that there really should be more varieties here! I've listed that below in my suggestions area.
Cookies: The cookies come in two varieties, 2 packs of smaller cookies and "Colossal" cookies. There isn't much of a flavor difference... it just may be easy to only eat one of the two packs for portion control. The cookies are definitely the star of this bakery and are far and away the taste winners. They have delicious flavor, great filling nutrients, and way less sugar and carbs than other sweets on the market. They are a definite win!
Side Note: A lot of the items have Peanut Butter which make sense for the protein it can pack in, but it definitely boosts up the caloric count as well. If you are being calorie observant, make sure to read their handy nutrition info on their website.
SUGGESTIONS:
Flavors are limited, and there really should be more of them, particularly in the blondie category, but really in all categories. Here would be my picks:
-Salted Caramel Brownie
-Butterscotch Chip Blondie
-Toffee Blondie
-White Chocolate Macadamia Nut Butter Blondie
-Banana Bread Blondie
-Ginger (or gingerbread) cookies
-Citrus cookie (Lemon, Lime, Chocolate Orange or some concoction therein, espeically as a summertime treat)
Also, they really should have a Gluten free option. Wheat free isn't enough, unless they are using a gluten free oat (they mention using oats, but not that they are gluten free)...
WEBSITE:
When dealing with an online distribution company, their website is really the "waiter" or "counter service person" in the equation. It must be friendly, courteous, answer all of your questions and give you the options you need.
Unfortunately, this is really where Protein Bakery falls short. I've worked in Community Management for about ten years at companies like Disney and Microsoft, so I feel like my judgements are fair.
-Not enough options for purchase.
At http://www.proteinbake... you really have two options. Buy a single flavor OR trust in the bakers to deliver what you want. They should give you a "pack a box" option, where you get exactly what you want. Also, I want to get some sort of autoshipment - but without fancy ribbons. Just a delicious box of stuff.
-Not enough ways to buy
Please, please, give us the option of Paypal! Also, a "buyer rewards incentive would be great!" I Buy 12 dozen, I get 1 dozen free?
-Lack of useful information on their Facebook, and they use it too often. I really am a fan of this company, but when they spam me 7 times in 24 hours and NONE of the info is about what pertains to me as a consumer looking to buy directly from them, it makes me want to unfan them, which would suck if they announced a new flavor or new sale that I would want to purchase.
-Testimonials page is a complete mess to read.
-Flash navigation? Really? I can't make a mobile purchase? They are missing out on a big market of insta-purchases for something as silly as lackluster infrastructure on their site.
-Dead Newsletters? What's the point of having Newsletters that are over a year old, without anything newer or relevant (promoting flavors they don't make anymore?!). This company could take a LOT away from production companies that have a voracious community (threadless, thinkgeek, amazon, for example).
At the end of a day, their product is really good, but their site experience is a pain in the butt!
I probably wouldn't have posted all of this if I didn't know that their team was so voracious about reading yelp, but I thought they should really know. I want this team to succeed off of their amazing product!Comment from stephen l. of The Protein Bakery 11/10/2011

I love the Protein Bakery. I first got a Baker's Pick with a Groupon. I was skeptical, but all of the brownies and cookies are tasty. And to Jean, the "nutritionist" who has a review below, these have always been marketed as desserts, not as healthy meals. However, as Deanna indicates in her review, they ARE a Healthier dessert for those of us with a sweet tooth. Furthermore, as Deanna mentions, the protein makes their baked goods more filling, and hence, many people are going to eat less at a time than they would of the desserts to which Jean compares them. I am a college professor, and on days I teach, I often go from class to meetings and back to class and end up with little time to eat. One cookie or half a brownie with coffee or tea makes a satisfying snack that helps me get through the day.
I just ordered another Baker's Pick with a KGB Deals Voucher just in time for the start of the semester, and my package arrived in two days. The customer service has always been fantastic! I highly recommend the Protein bakery, especially to those looking for a healthier and more filling alternative to traditional cookies and brownies. I've liked everything I've tried but some of my personal favorites are the Wicked Mint Brownie, the Oatmeal Cranberry Cookie (didn't get any in this latest baker's pick :-() , and the Peanut Butter Chocolate Chip Cookie. In this Baker's Pick I did finally get some Blondies (I didn't the first time around). I just tried the Peanut Butter Blondie an it's fantastic. I'm impressed with their peanut butter desserts because although I like peanut butter, I often find peanut butter desserts to be overly sweet or artificial tasting. The Protein Bakery however, makes great Peanut Butter desserts. My boyfriend also loves their cookies and brownies.Comment from stephen l. of The Protein Bakery 8/22/2011

This is the smart way to snack. Delicious & interesting flavors and just a comment on Joshua A.'s review. There is nothing "unhealthy" about real ingredients. Are they fat free? No, but the combination of the ingredients keep your blood sugar from spiking which is why most snacks are bad for you. They either have fake ingredients and/or make you eat more later. These will satisfy your sweet tooth and keep you balanced. The seasonal flavors are something to look forward to and the gift tins are great for any special occasion.

Yum! I live in Los Angeles, but tried the Baker's Pick package from on online deal. It was sent promptly after I ordered (the first try, they put the wrong address and I never got the package) and everything was fresh and delicious. All items are chewy and flavorful! I finished all 18 items in 6 days (and that was only because I rationed them out to myself). I don't know how "healthy" these are, but they are great if you want all natural, wheat-free snacks or you want a quick protein pick-up. The website info and layout are excellent so check them out for the benefits. My favorites are everything with peanut butter in it (blondies and cookies) and the oatmeal chocolate chip cookies. The brownies are very good too and they're really big in my opinion. My least favorite snack is the oatmeal cranberry cookies. They are not bad, just a little boring, like they could use some nuts or something. Some things taste a little coconut-y even though they don't have any coconut. I think it's the protein isolate or whey they use. I like coconut so it's not a problem, but I thought I'd mention it.
