Another year and another birthday this year at the post.
Excellent service and food. Extensive wine list with great cellar. Smoking lounge located inside for cigars and cognac.
The Caribou was delicious as was the Beef. The lobster salad and Foie Gras pared with ice wine was divine. The dessert sampler offered a taste of all the sweets and a Cohiba Robusto to top off the night made it magical.
I outdid myself this year for my birthday. A decent bottle of wine, tax & tip for two: $5751 Previous Review: Show all »

We didn't get to sit in the full dining room because we made the mistake of mentioning that we'd come late "for a drink" even though we intended to eat as well.
We were shuffled into a small bar area, which was very nice and cozy. It had comfy couches and a warm fireplace. It also, however had a couple enjoying a romantic evening, and as a larger group we felt like we were intruding, and it was clear that they felt that way too.
We got the drinks menu which seemed a little expensive, but looked good! I was also starving- they had a menu of half a dozen things. I ordered the quesidilla with no peppers. 15 minutes later the waitress (who was not very accommodating & was wearing clothes that showed off her midriff-classy) came back and said that my meal could not be made without peppers as the quesedillas were PREMADE. This place is charging $18 for a quesedilla that they made god-knows when. It takes approximately 2 minutes to throw one together- I know, I do it all the time. There was nothing else appetizing to me, so we skipped the food even though was starving, and eagerly awaited our strawberry Margaritas.
The Margarita was delicious- but the glass was less than half full- I'd say about 1/3. Considering the price-I thought they were joking. Nevertheless it was delicious- clearly not from a powder mix!
All-in-all, I will not be back. -

Excellent venue for a great meal in the Rockies. It was nice that we were there during the slow season and had no problems in getting a reservation.
The room has a classic ambiance - a little dated but kind of goes with the setting. The rooms also provides spectacular views of the Post Hotel parking lot.
We were greeted efficiently and seated quickly. The menu was just the right size, but we struggled to pick our items as there were so mean things we wanted to try.
The wine menu is extensive, comprehensive and accessible.
My only complaint was that the waitress was pushing us to order our food well before I was half way through the wine menu. Not sure why we were being rushed.
However, after this little snafu everything proceeded swimmingly.
We ordered the lobster bisque and the gnocchi as our starters and the bisque was good, but the gnocchi was spectacular.
We chose veal for both our main courses and they were prepared very well.
For desert we had the cheesecake and a blueberry pie, and they were decent.
All in all this place is convenient and deserving of its high rating. Our meal for two with a mid price bottle of wine set us back $270. -

This place is unbelievable. While it does not have the view of the Fairmont, it does have decent views and sits on the Bow river. The hotel has an amazing old world feel, but I can not talk to the hotel as this was not were I was staying.
The first room you see once you get past the front desk is this lovely cocktail lounge. It has a wood burning fireplace that has an amazing view of the river and mountains. Wish I would have arrived early to allow time to have a cocktail prior to dinner. Once seated, you will be have amazing service with friendly service that won't allow your water cup to empty. On that note, if you enjoy wine this is a MUST for you. They must have 2000 wines. The waiter was french and helped us pick out a wine, but they really need a sommelier. The tuna appetizer was amazing and if you like gnocchi they are a must. Every dinner plate was cooked to perfection. I split the Chateaubriand steak and while the meat was buttery and amazing, the veggies served with the steak blew me away. Lastly the desert was on the spot. Beware the "Cake and Pies" at the bottom are listed, but the differ night to night. Make sure you look in the case at the back of the restaurant. If in doubt ask your server.
In the end, if you want to go out for a nice meal, this is a must visit restaurant and the best restaurant in Lake Louise.Listed in: Canada

The Post Hotel has been welcoming guests for more than 25 years, but the Dining Room has to be biggest influence on its popularity. With an award-winning wine cellar featuring 32,500 bottles and more than 2,200 selections, AND Executive Chef Hans Sauter from Switzerland, the reasons for the accolades and achieving the pinnacle of restaurant success are evident.
We had a first-class dining experience with impeccable service and wonderfully prepared food. The melding of the European cooking style with Rocky Mountain dishes was perfect. I have to add that the desserts were unbelievable; we had chocolate cheesecake and a mixed berry almond tart that could only have been made by European pastry chefs. Probably the best thing about staying at the Post Hotel was the ability to not only eat in the Dining Room, but also take the briefest walk possible back to our room and lounge in contentment with eyes glazed over.
The Post Hotel Dining Room is often recommended by other local chefs; I don't think you will regret celebrating a special occasion here. -

The food was excellent as other reviewers have said. But the smugness is a bit overbearing--come on guys, this is friggin' Lake Louise in the middle of nowhere. Yeah, it's great to have haute cuisine in the middle of Canada, eh?, but this would just be another over-hyped Swiss restaurant in Manhattan, Brooklyn, San Francisco or ahem, Geneva. Swiss-German food is so last generation. And how about those prices?
When you are the only game in town it would show real class to be a little less full of ones self. By the way, admitting that your salad mix comes in a bag from Frasier (sp?) Valley doesn't exactly sound classy. I can buy bagged salad at the A&P and feed a tribe for the cost of one plate of salad greens here. -

Best filet I've ever had and it was bison. Charming inimate ambience without being stuffy. Service was excellent, knowledgable and unpretentious. Truffled gnocchi was the show-stealer.

Nice to be back! Last ate here 7 yrs ago (been away) but lovely memories coming back. Exceptional terrine. And really flavorsome caribou. Mmmmm! Must come here more often! One small disappointment: no cheese plate. Sigh! But did have stellar creme brule... Freshly made! Slurp.
