I read a review about the pie plate online and when we saw it driving in to go to our b&b we made a stop for lunch. The sandwiches were DELICIOUS.  I have to say I loved the turkey avocado the most, but the brie and pear was also delicious.  The baguette was amazing. Crispy on the outside and chewy on the inside. For dessert we had the apple rhubarb pie - delightful.
We got to the cash and told the girl we loved it and she said that we haven't tried anything if we haven't had their pizza.  So we went back the next day for the pizza - Apple, maple, cheddar with walnut pesto. They serve it with cute little scissors. It was seriously amazing. The crust was so tasty, thin.  For dessert strawberry rhubarb - also delicious!
It's a cute little restaurant, the servers are really friendly and have great recommendations if you ask for other places to eat or things to see.  I'd reco for sure!

Delicious - all the way around. From the quiche-like dishes (had tomato & gouda) + salad to the cherry tart, and apple rhubarb pie! Highly recommend. Very cute restaurant (and big picnic table out back for larger groups - we sat 8). Great waitstaff. Best pie crusts!

We stopped by here for a pie to-go, and ended up leaving with butter tarts as well. I'm not an avid butter tart fan, but these were deeelicious! I would definitely return to try out their pizzas and other pies.

It's a small shop with a home-y feel and friendly service.

Was there with the family after a visit to  Niagara on the Lake. Fantastic find. Very informal little cafe and bake shop with the best pizza and desert. We had the Margarita pizza, a super thin crust pizza made with fresh ingredients, fresh tomatoes, basil and mozzarella. The second pie had grilled chicken and artichokes. Also delicious. So thin that they give you scissors to cut the pie. For desert had a peach and blue berry pie that was scrumptious. We also had the grape tart that was to die for.
The only disappointment was that they were out of the strawberry lemonade that is supposed to be great.

We were excited to check out The Pie Plate while in Niagara this weekend, having read a glowing review in Bon Appetit's profile of the region (June 2009 issue).  In most ways, The Pie Plate solidly delivered.

The space is adorable - small rooms with two top tables, lots of light, and seating on the wrap-around porch.  The menu features seasonal sandwiches, savory and meat pies of the day, and a plethora of tasty baked goods made from local produce.  I had a grilled ham and cheddar sandwich with apple butter - SO good, especially after a morning of hiking.  My husband had the steak melt, which was also delicious but turned out to be too big to eat in one sitting.  He enjoyed a beer as well, though our server didn't really know much about the beers (as in, what kind of beers they were), and didn't offer the prices.

Really, the low points of our visit were the service - our server disappeared after bringing our sandwiches and was gone long enough that my husband went to the washroom to refill our water glasses - and the long hair we found in the crust of our cherry pie.  Apart from the hair, the pie was good, but not the sort of pie I'd expect from a restaurant with 'pie' in the name.

Service and hair aside, I loved The Pie Plate, and would definitely stop there again.  If we were locals, I suspect it would be a favorite weekend lunch place - but alas, we live in Michigan, and so will just have to dream about their sandwiches and scones from afar.

I never travel to Niagara-on-the-Lake without making a pit stop at the Pie Plate. As the first reviewer noted, it's not in NOTL but very close. There is no excuse for missing it. I've purchased bakery items to go (most recently, a stunning cheddar dill scone) and dined in for lunch (wonderful soups, pizza, too). Even better - they have an apartment upstairs available for rent. Details at the Pie Plate's web site.

Yeah.  I'll go anywhere for good pie.  This place is technically in Virgil, ON but it's a stone's throw away from Niagara-on-the-Lake and was the only cute brunch place I could find in the Niagara Falls area that wasn't attached to a B & B or wasn't a little too fancy to get the down home eat on or wasn't some god awful chain resto.  Wierd, I thought Niagara would be chock full of cute little brunch cafes with all the tourists that flock there on the weekends.  Anyway...good food!  GREAT PIE and single serving TARTS!  Just check out their menu.  FYI, brunch....it don't start 'til 11 am and try the soup, it looked good.
