I live a couple of blocks from the Picky Pet and have been shopping here for about 3 years. Over that time there have actually been 3 different owners--a lovely lady who's name I unfortunately cannot remember, Tim and now Janette--and all of these various owners and their staff have been great, helpful and very friendly to both me and my dog.

Though the store isn't huge and may not stock a PetsMart-level of inventory Janette is always willing to special order anything you need and is awesome about delivering (for free!) things you've purchased. Since taking over the store earlier this year she's steadily built out the range of products on offer and besides leashes, collars, grooming products, litter, toys, treats and bedding for both cats and dogs she's started to stock cute gifts, coats and clothing.

Picky Pet carries all the best brands of pet food (Orijen, Evo, Wellness and others) and again will order anything you need that isn't on the shelf--usually with a 2 or 3 day turnaround--and her prices are consistent with other pet stores in the lower Mainland.  The store also has freezers stocked with raw diet and frozen treats that my Boston terrier greatly appreciated and enjoyed during this summer's heat wave :)

Overall I'm happy with Picky Pet and very glad to have such a convenient and pet friendly shop in the neighbourhood. It may not be as flash and fancy as places like Bow Wow Haus but they have literally everything you need for your urban dog with friendly, personal service you can't beat.

Some Picky Pet products I highly recommend:

    - Pet Head doggie shampoo. Your pooch will have the softest, shiniest coat every and smell lovely--at least until the next time he/she decides to roll in something gross ;)

    - Roasted meaty bones. These are inexpensive, come in various sizes and are virtually indestructible. Once the dog has gotten all the yummy bits of meat off they are great for filling with peanut butter or wet food for a treat that takes a while for your pooch to get through.

I have a cat, and I must say that the selection for dogs is much better. I guess that's the case with almost every pet store, unless you are visiting the larger ones like Tisol. The prices here are reasonable, and they do carry quality brands of dog food, cat food, and cat litter. They don't stock the dry food I use - I have read that they will order it in, and they have said they'll order things in for me, but they never do. Still, I end up here most of the time for cat litter and canned food because I live across the street and don't have a car. The staff are friendly and they are open late enough for me to drop by after work. I like supporting small businesses, but it would be a huge help if they stocked the dry food my beast eats.

Living across from this pet store, I thought it would be perfect for outfitting our pooch with food and toys.  While the store does carry a line of food that we like (Orijen), there isn't much else.

The toy selection is quite limited and based on the inventory (1 or 2 toys per hanging hook), it seems as though the store doesn't receive alot of business.

Although we'll go here for food, we'll have to go to a larger store for a better selection of rope toys, bones, etc.

The Picky Pet is a cute little pet store in Coal Harbour. They carry everything your urban dwelling pooches might need, like raincoats, gourmet treats and pet food, beds, and toys. There's also some stuff for cats, including scratching posts.
