Afternoon Tea @ The Living Room in one word: "Charming"
I've been to a number of afternoon tea spots around Beverly Hills, but the Peninsula's Living Room is second to none.
- The atmosphere is absolutely dreamy: salon setting, beautiful decor, elegant garden and even a classical harpist.
- The staff was incredibly hospitable and very attentive, I don't believe our tea cups were ever empty.
AND
- The tea and Pastries were delightful! If you call and make reservations, they can even adjust your tea pairings accordingly - they accommodated ours for a vegetarian diet without a problem. How nice! : -)
-- I saw one yelper complain that the sandwiches and pastries are too "small". . . as tea sandwiches are naturally petite, please don't come here expecting a "bread basket" or a sub.
However, if all you ask of in an afternoon is an elegant atmosphere, a variety of exotic teas and to be treated as a princess, I would highly recommend you make reservations here. -

If I could give this place 2.5 stars, I would.
I say it gets 3-4 stars for location/environment
3 stars for food (but I am a bit conflicted with that rating as well-- read on to find out why) and 2.5 stars for service... averages out to the 2 stars I gave.
I came here to celebrate my birthday with my girl friends; reservations were made 3 weeks in advance and the first confirmation email was not sent to me so I had to call back and ask them to re-send it. The person I spoke to on the phone was not the nicest, but I just assumed they were busy and disregarded it.
Okay... day of birthday celebration arrives:
There were 6 of us total and to no surprise, there was a lot of traffic in LA on a Saturday afternoon. Most of my friends were coming from the SGV area and some of them were in traffic for almost 2 hours to get to Beverly Hills (due to an accident and car fire on the road). Our server was not very nice to us when he told us that we had a 2 hour limit at our table (already 30 minutes into our reservation) and I told him our situation and assured him that we would be done in time for the next reservation. Finally, my friends were able to make it to the Living Room. The good thing is, this place has valet (bad thing is the cost of the valet, but what do you expect...right?) that drops you off right in front where the Living Room is located.
We started our afternoon tea-time and enjoyed good company and tea. Halfway into our meal, we noticed that one of our dishes had a LONG PIECE OF HAIR in it. Another server witnessed my friend pull it out of the sandwich. We were all so shocked and I was at a loss for words! I was so upset but did not want to cause a scene or have this incident ruin the mood and celebration. The fact that the server brought another tray of food out for us was appreciated, but that was it. I think we should have made a bigger deal about the incident because that is just disgusting! We didn't even eat after that and took the food to-go because we all lost our appetite. Perhaps, we should have asked to speak to the manager...
Afterward, we checked out the rooftop lounge which was lovely and enjoyed the rest of our visit to Peninsula, but this experience was very mixed and I am unsure about how I feel about their service and quality of food, overall. I would have loved to bring my mother or other friends here for another visit but I am very hesitant and would hate for the same thing to happen again. Granted, it could have been an honest mistake but I feel that at a place like this-- I would or should expect it to happen less often and for the staff to be a bit more apologetic about the situation. I mean, it's not cheap to dine here for tea and sandwiches, you know? -

DO NOT VALET PARK HERE!
This poor review is for nothing other than their valet service. I came for a burger +2 beers and 2 hours later had the bar tender call for my car, so i left and a couple minutes later, my car pulled up to the uncomfortably crowded valet with a nice big black scrape w/ slight dents all along my rear passenger right fender, just above the wheel. Luckily they have cameras all over so it's obvious it wasn't there when I arrived. The valet driver played ignorant so I asked for his manager (Edwin) who was about as rude as you could possibly get and shrugged his shoulders, while at the same time gesturing me to move my car. I told him I was not going anywhere until they handled the situation, then told me I would have to fill out a claim and walked away. I filled out the form right then and there and at the bottom of the claim, there was a spot for him to sign (as manager) which he hesitated to even sign and when I demanded him to, he laughed at me again.
My burger was good though, so park down the street if you decide to try it! -

I had tea here for a business meeting & was blown away by the beauty of the hotel & the customer service.
Their tea party menu had a great selection of teas & we had champagne & some amazing small sandwiches & pastries. Gorgeous tea sets, beautiful entertainment (live harpist) & amazing service.
If I ever get married - I will consider having a bridal shower here or something. It's absolutely whimsical! -

Afternoon tea is very pleasant here! It was my first time having afternoon tea, so there are no other places for me to compare but the sandwiches are amazing. The setting is very relaxing and classy.

I think a lot of celebrities stay here and have their parties here or whatever they do. The pool is on the top floor with the spa. The restaurant is on the lobby floor and the bar is near the front entrance.
I give this four instead of five because the W Westwood is better. Heck, there's a lot of competition in the Beverly Hills area. And when you're up against tough competitors, you get four out of five if you don't have a gimmick that is exceptional.
There is a big harp, but whoop-dee-doo. The restaurant could be more intimate and the bar could be farther from the front door (a cold draft comes in when someone goes in or out) and there could be more floors and the pool could be more inviting and trendy. Instead it all has a really high price and just kinda... is.
The wait staff are really great though. And the bread and butter nommy noms are fantastic and prolly the best I've ever snacked on. The huge prawns appetizer is the best in LA as well.
(ps- the bar seriously reminds me of the Blvd down at the end of Rodeo) -

I've only been here for drinks at night, so read another review if you want to know about high tea or a room at the hotel.
The bar area is lush and rich with leather and wood trim. Fresh flower arrangements adorn the hallways. A guy in a tux plays piano in the lounge area. You'll see much older men with much younger beautiful women.
The service is excellent and the drinks are very good. A bit on the pricey side... no wait, it's a very nice hotel in Beverly Hills. What am I thinking?
If this is any indication of how nice this bar is, my friend and I met a couple of girls across the street at the Vampire Lounge. We took them to the bar at the Peninsula. The girls were very impressed with the hotel and my friend's girl looked at him with the "take me to bed or lose me forever look." So he got a suite that night.Listed in: Drinks first, questions later

I am giving this lovely hotel 2 stars for the incredibly rude woman at the front desk. Is it that hard to be pleasant to someone for a five minute interaction?

My boyfriend took me here for high tea on my birthday. It was really nice. I was impressed by the great service and the variety of teas, sandwiches, and sweets. With $65 a person, you get a glass of champagne, a cup of fresh strawberries and cream, an array of different sandwiches (smoked salmon, curry chicken, egg salad, roasted vegetable...I'm sure I'm forgetting a few) they also provided scones (one buttermilk and one currant per person), a dill and caviar sandwich, a variety of sweets (chocolate cake, raspberry cream, apricot cream puffs, macaroons) AND home-made Devonshire cream, chocolate raspberry jam, and blueberry jam. We came here at 11am I was so full I held off until dinner! That's saying a lot coming from someone like me.
Overall, it was a really good experience. If you're thinking about going you should definitely make reservations though. It gets packed near 2pm and usually the areas are reserved for large parties. Reserve!! -

I've held numerous events at The Peninsula Beverly Hills, and my team and I are in the midst of planning another one for our clients this month. We've had great experiences there. The food, service and decor are wonderful! The moment you step out of your car, the valets greet you warmly, which sets the tone for a wonderful event. The event planning team at the hotel is easy to work with, knowledgeable and creative. I highly recommend this hotel for events, high tea or a great meal (I've experienced alll).

Wanted to take the BFF somewhere fun that we'd never been for her birthday so after checking out the yelp reviews for afternoon tea in BH, we opted for the Peninsula. My BFF and I are both total tea nerds and have gone to tea in just about every major city in the US and quite a few abroad as well. At $65 a head I had high hopes for the afternoon tea and we were very impressed.
The service was spectacular -- from our primary waiter, Edgar, and the constant attention we received from the rest of the staff. I really appreciated that the servers assisted all tables not just their tables. If they saw your tea was running low they would stop and fill it up, regardless of who was your actual server.
I had the caramel pear tea which was divine -- literally melted in your mouth. The food itself was also very good. The berries and whip cream, the scones and sandwiches were all delicious. We actually got so full that we had to have our desserts wrapped to go and have them at home. I especially enjoyed the little parting gift cake they gave us -- was a perfect snack later in the evening.
Another thing of note that I found so genuine and sweet was that I took a liking to the chocolate raspberry jam they had and asked if they sold it anywhere in the hotel. Edgar, our primary waiter, informed me that it's made in the kitchen BUT he was so sweet and when brought our to-go bag, he put a container of it in there for me. Talk about service! :-)Listed in: Worth the gas $ to drive to…

Elegant, Frilly, Phenomenal.
Our party of 8 sassy gals, ladie'd up and met at the Peninsula for afternoon tea. We were all running a tad late because of the world renowned 405 and were a little stressed and frazzled. Our road rage immediately dissipated once we arrived into the oppulent and soothing "Living Room" and heard the beautiful melodies of the harpist. We were greeted with warm smiles and escorted to a lovely area in the rear of the Living Room space. The table was set beautifully & we all agreed on the Royal Tea with a glass of Mumm Napa Champagne for $45.
Everything was perfect. I mean EVERYTHING. The Chai Tea was perfect! The scones, cream, lemon curd were divine. The patries were sweet and delicious and the snooty finger sandwiches were savory and good.
The service was impeccable. Our gaggle of ladies was hungry and chatty. We rarely had to request more of anything because it was anticipated and our porcelein cups were refilled quickly and impressively discreetly. All this whilst never interrupting the flow of our frequent chatty banter.
All in all an remarkable experience that I HIGHLY recommend! -

This review is for Afternoon Tea:
No harpist. Had to refill our own tea a few times. Had the 62 dollar Imperial Tea and the 58 dollar Royal Tea. Didn't want champagne so they substituted sparkling apple cider. Sandwiches were SMALL. You really can fit all of the sandwiches in ONE hand. Caviar cake was this 1.5" diameter flat bread thing. Strawberries and cream were a decent size. Pastries were okay--expect all petit four sizes. Scones were good and a little smaller than what the bakeries normally sell.
Caramel pear tea was good. That was probably the highlight of the meal. Total came to be 143 dollars with tip. Expensive and definitely won't leave full. If you must go to try it out, eat before you go! Otherwise, SKIP it and save a few bucks going to somewhere else. The Living Room is small. Make reservations.
Maybe high reviews because of the location and ambiance? -

We stayed in the hotel for my wife's birthday weekend, trying it instead of the Beverly Wilshire, where we have stayed many times. I have to say I was underwhelmed by the hotel, which obviously comes with a big reputation. We paid $1,500 a night - two nights for the price of one - for a Suite Life promotion and did so largely on the images of the suites on the hotel's website.
Our room could not have been more different than the image on the website. It was at the end of the corridor by the busy street with the car loading front door adjacent to it. The room was noisy even with the blinds closed, to the point that we really didn't want to spend time in it - with the balcony about as appealing as sitting on the street in front of the Starbucks down the street.
The service was generally excellent, With the exception that the lovely monogrammed pillows on the bed aren't quite as impactful when we came back the second night and they had someone else's initials on them! To the hotel's credit, the were changed shortly after without our having mentioned it.
We didn't ask to change rooms - as it was my wife's birthday I wanted it to be special and didn't want to make a fuss or show her that I was upset. After the hotel solicited feedback I did relate my view and the hotel suggested they would have moved us if we had asked. Not everybody, including me, is comfortable making a fuss. I thought that for that sort of money, they should get it right the first time. -

Afternoon Tea at The Peninsula was a fabulous experience. The service was everything you would expect from a 5-star hotel, the sweet and savory little treats were exquisite and the caramel pear tea was flavorful and perfectly soothing. Loved every moment of it!
The Belvedere Restaurant was also perfect in every way! I dined at this restaurant for my birthday. The surroundings: opulent, the food: top quality, and most of all the staff made me feel very special. -

I am not quite sure what is wrong with me, for I have this strange fascination with afternoon tea, an activity generally reserved for middle-aged women who congregate over finger sandwiches while their husbands are watching the game.
Peninsula does it proper.
1. Beautiful woman with proper french accent offering the french bubbly (Champagne).
2. Awesome pianist on the grand piano.
3. Awesome harpist on the single-action pedal harp.
4. Bi-lingual servers.
5. Beautiful decor.
As always, I go for the full deal, with champagne, strawberries and cream, and a donation to Susan G Komen for good measure.
The tea selection is great and the different varieties of tea's I've tried have all been fairly good. Although I've got a pretty good palate for wines and scotch - tea is one of those things that's a bit harder for me to judge. I've had afternoon tea at 5 star hotels in Hyde Park, London that served Bigelow, and it was good.
The finger sandwiches and deserts are pretty good. Here's what I remember:
Cucumber salad.
Curry chicken
Tuna salad
Salmon
The deserts were pretty good as well. Not overly sweet but still decadent. Interesting selection. And our scones were advised to be fresh out of the often by our server - and indeed they were. They have a wickedly good chocolate flavored fruit jam.
At 5PM tea time, walking out around evening time to pick up my valeted car - was a dream. I felt like I was in a different country. They do the ambience quite well, even if the hotel suites are all crammed together and simply hidden with a hedge about 12 ft high.
I will be coming here again, even at over a hundred bucks for some tea, champagne and sandwiches, if not just to hear the harpist go another round. -

My husband took me to The Living Room for afternoon tea on my birthday. What a lovely experience. The scones were hot and fluffy, the Devonshire cream was amazing, and the jams were incredible. The tea sandwiches were delicious, and the desserts were good too. Order the house tea (Belvedere)...so wonderful. The staff was also friendly. Would definitely go back!
PS...if you are not a drinker like me, you can substitute the champagne that comes with it for a plethora of non-alcoholic drinks. -

A group of my girlfriends and I dressed up and had afternoon tea at "The Living Room", and what a lovely experience it was!
The Peninsula is a very beautiful hotel and it is a very classy place to have tea with your girls, whether it be for a bridal shower, birthday party, or just for a girl's get-together.
We were 30 minutes late to our 12:00pm reservation, but it turned out fine. We were just told that the servers had to set up for the next 2:30pm reservation so they notified us that we had until 2:00pm to enjoy our tea - which was more than enough time for us.
I ordered the Caramel Pear tea, which was highly recommended by our server. I must say.. it is one of the best-tasting teas I have ever had. I love caramel and I love pear, so it was the perfect blend to suit my tastes. My friends ordered the Belvedere Special Blend and Tahitian Vanilla teas, and seemed to enjoy their teas as well.
Each of us ordered the $32 package without the champagne/alcohol, so it came out to be about $40 per person including tip.
I enjoyed the 2 scones that was included - one regular and one cranberry scone. They came out warm and fresh, and tasted very good with the blueberry jam. I wasn't a fan of the other jam, which had a powerful chocolate taste to it.
There were 5 finger sandwiches - egg, cucumber, salmon, curry chicken, veggie sandwich varieties which were decent. There were about 5 mini desserts, including opera cake, orange macaron, cream puff, raspberry cake to name a few, which were decent as well.
Our servers came by to check on us periodically (about 7 times) to pour our tea into our cups when it seemed close to empty. They were patient when taking our photos, and I was very pleased with the overall service.
The valet service was outstanding - there was a valet guy in front each of the 4 doors to open the car doors for all of us when we arrived, and closed each door when we departed.
I will definitely go again if I'm in the area. =) -

I love going to tea! It's one of my absolute favorite thing to do on weekends with my girlfriends! And I have to say that I have visited about 95% of all the tea rooms in OC and am slowly making my way up to LA.
Afternoon tea at The Peninsula is quickly becoming one of my favorites! I use to have on in Long Beach, but the quality of their food has wane through the years.
You're served tea in the "The Living Room" which is adjacent and opened to the lobby of the hotel. I love their strawberries and cream served with a glass of champagne before they bring out the crumpets and the tea! Such a lovely touch. The food is wonderful and you will leave about a few pounds heavier but your wallet will be a lot lighter in weight! ;-)
I won't go into details about the food because there's just one menu and you get everything (the tea, the finger sandwiches and cute petite fours) .
This place is also very male friendly, so if you have a guy in your party and doesn't want to go to the stuffy overly-girly tea rooms, the Peninsula is a wonderful place to spend the afternoon! Cheers! -

I've been to high tea here twice and it is amazing! The salon is really comfortable and cozy. It almost makes you feel like you're you're own living room, except (likely) more nicely furnished and with your own servants that come and fill up your teacup as soon as it's empty without you even having to lift a finger.
At first glance the tray of food they bring out does not look very substantial simply because they're all so small, but I have a decent sized appetite and I've gotten plenty full from the food they serve.
Anyways, the service is spectacular, the food is good, the tea itself is really delicious, and the decor could not be more inviting and comfortable. Every time I go to have afternoon tea somewhere, I use the Peninsula high tea as the bar. -

This is a review for the salon at the Peninsula.
I have been getting my hair cut and styled by Bibi at the Peninsula Salon for over 7 years (she did leave for a brief period to work at the Beverly Hills Hotel), and her work is AMAZING. She knows what's in, she's super fast and professional, doesn't upsell, and is super pleasant to talk to. I moved away and had someone else cut my hair a few times, but nothing compares to Bibi. Highly highly highly recommend this lady. -

I came to The Peninsula Hotel last year during a chilly November for a girlfriend's birthday. She wanted to try something new and have a cute get together with all the girls.
It's so gorgeous here. They had Christmas lights all around and I felt that winter vibe. We valet our cars and came into The Living Room where the High Tea was held at. It literally is a living room but imagine: a grand piano and harp instruments. Ceiling Windows with draperies, and of course, an older crowd. It's a calm atmosphere. I love how peaceful it is.
I ordered the Imperial Tea Course since I figured I wouldn't be coming back here anytime soon. So, might as well splurge $60 and experience it to it's full potential.
The Imperial Tea came with a tier of exquisite Hors de'vours and appetizing finger bites with buttery moist Scones, exotic Caviar Crab Cake patty, Custard fruit Tarts and Egg Salad Sandwiches, and raw salmon bites, just to name a few. It also comes with Champagne and choice of tea. I had Chai tea which is very similar to milk tea. It was quite delightful. It even came with a take home cake. it looked very unappealing that I was so close from chucking it but good thing I didn't. It had such a unique flavor, I couldn't figure it out. It was like apple custard..? Nonetheless, it very delish.
But the next time I come here, I will not be ordering the Imperial Tea. I'll just go with the Royal tea. Its the same thing but without the Caviar Cake, Strawberries & Creme and Champagne + take home cake for half the price. It was a nice experience but next time I'd just go with the Royal Tea.
*Recommended for get- togethers, birthdays, bridal or baby showers =) -

Amazing service in this pretty setting. The Service alone deserved 5 stars, the food was very good, tho I'm still searching for amazing high tea food in SoCal. My bf took me here for my Bday and just mentioned it in passing while we were conversing with the maitre'D. After they cleared our plates he brought out a special cake and the harpist played Happy Birthday without any prompting. Our teacups were always full and they managed a perfect blend of attentiveness and respecting our private time together. What a gem!

Beautiful hotel, nice secluded location in the heart of Beverly Hills. Entrance to the hotel can be easy to miss, but that's the charm of it as well. Not as noisy and crowded as the Beverly Hilton across the street which can feel like a weekend market at times. The corner suites are my favorite. Beautifully appointed with a cozy feel. Staff is super nice and helpful. Very pricey, but a real treat if you can afford it.

The Peninsula is my new go-to spot for Sunday brunch. The food is excellent without being too foo foo (one of their main courses is biscuits and gravy, which is superb). Coupled with free-flowing champagne, reasonable prices, and outstanding service (as an example, they provide little benches for women to lay their purses on), you've got yourself a winner.

Came here for high tea and it was so fun :) Service here is amazing and the hotel is so beautiful. They have a harpist and a pianist that is playing for you!! Ambiance and service is so awesome. We ordered 2 high tea plates between 3 girls and when the food came I thought it wouldn't be enough but by the end I was STUFFED, and I wasn't hungry again for another 6 hrs.
Their scones and sandwiches are soo yummy, but their pastries are all right. I wish they'd give us more sandwiches :) Also, the devonshire cream here is soo smooth and creamy mmmm... but i have no idea if they import it or if they just pasteurize the milk or if they don't illegally... haha either way, i wouldnt be surprised cuz it tastes like crack! -

The Peninsula serves the best high tea that I've found in Los Angeles in a beautiful and elegant setting. The decor and floral arrangements are gorgeous, and the service is always impeccable. This is one of the nicest things to do with your girlfriends/mother/grandmother/sisters, and I would recommend it for anyone who has something to celebrate (bridal shower, birthday, etc.).
The selection of teas is extensive, and they are one of the only venues for high tea that serves my favorite Jasmine tea (which you should definitely try). The tea sandwiches and pastries are both beautifully presented and delicious, and you can even order champagne and strawberries if you want to make your high tea experience really special! -

I've had afternoon tea for my birthday in The Living Room. Everything was lovely.... The service was excellent as well as the food. I loved the glass of champagne that I had. Even though I'm a fan of caviar, the only thing I didn't really like was their caviar bread. It was mediocre at best. Otherwise, I loved the scones, sandwiches, and tea.
I've also been to The Roof Garden restaurant at the Peninsula, and lunch there was decent. I've had the chicken salad, and it was pretty standard. I would give it 4 stars. -

Las Vegas, NV
My home away from home... How I love spending weekends away from Vegas there or a night after a long international flight into LAX at Peninsula to be pampered with their impeccable service!
Been going to this hotel for about 10 years now and they have upheld their very first impression my family and I had.
The linens are absolutely amazing, they used Frette not sure if they still use Frette. After one of our first stays our linens at our own homes turned into Frette as well. Eventually our pillow cases at The Peninsula had our initials on it. They welcomed our English bulldog Romeo with sweet amenities for our pup to enjoy. And now I have a son who is 3 on Sunday and they always welcome him in warmly with a nice childrens package to make him feel special as well.
Love that the staff remember my family members names and my sons name. And it's not a matter of personally wanting to be noticed but a matter of knowing that they pay attention and after seeing hundreds of faces of whom they also remember they make it a point to differentiate themselves from the rest and to detail us as individuals.
The spa is one of my favorites in the world... One I love Epicuren products, two I believe the staff is amazing... Suri often does my facials and she is TOP. She know what she is doing and doesn't recommend random product just to make a spa sale. I find that common in other spa and salons. Getting a manicure and pedicure is fantastic
, what's better then being in a private room being pampered in peace? And peace of mind that the place is clean.
Love having high tea in the afternoon before my afternoon nap followed by a restaurant OR room service never seems to fail me either.
Pool side is also very relaxing. Overlooking the city with a nice breeze on a warm day... Take dive or sit in the hot tub... Or eat lunch at the cafe or in a cabana... The perfect afternoon! =)
