You know how some people refer to Disneyland as 'the happiest place on earth?' Well, The Papery might be MY happiest place in Victoria. From the wall of fun knick-knacks as you enter the store, to the rows and rows of lovely stationery, wrap and cards/gift tags, I love everything about this shop.
It's true that the merchandise here is not cheap, but the quality and uniqueness of the items The Papery carry make it well worth the price. The employees are very friendly and helpful in pointing you in the right direction if you're looking for something specific, but this is the kind of store where you show up not needing anything and leave with four or five items you can tuck away for later occasions. -

The Papery has been one of my top 5 favorite shops in Victoria since I moved here 10 years ago. Since then I've become known for the cards I give. If there's ever a need to make someone feel special, I head to the papery. You pay a premium, but in my mind, a card that the receiver remembers and talks about years later, is worth it.
It's also a fantastic shop for ornaments during the holidays. I happen to have a sheet of their wrapping paper up as a poster in my place. Expensive paper=cheap art. :) In the shop you can find many local cards, as well as cards made abroad that support 3rd world charities. Both excellent alternatives to big brands.
I'm always happy to go to The Papery. -

The papery offers up some seriously gorgeous wrap. I'll only wrap little pressies though, due to the insane prices. They do have everything you would need to make your gift beautiful, but my conscience is always niggling at me about the waste.
Definitely worth checking out. it's a cute little shop. Great for finding journals and notebooks too. -

I love The Papery! Located right across the street from The Bay Centre, it's always super handy for finding cards, packaging, and extra little presents for any occasion.
The displays are awesome no matter what time of year you go. I was there this past weekend and it's 'holidays' galore! There's a full wall of holiday cards, wrapping, ornaments, etc etc. The centre display was all ornaments and in the summer, usually has a stand of humourous treats. The wall of magnets always catches my eye and it's hard to pass up silliness that involves martinis and man-issues.
The staff are always very helpful and as the shop is quite tiny, you'll have to be used to shimmying past people. Whether you're a visitor or resident of beautiful Victoria, i would definitely recommend checking this shop out! -

We just found this place the other day (thanks for the tip, salesgirl in Chintz & Co!) and it really is a fantastic little shop. Emphasis on 'little', but they manage to fit a whole lot of product in there without the results being 'cluttered'. There's an amazingly large assortment of ways to use paper in here - gift wrap, writing paper, journals, gift bags, cards, and there's even a small selection of writing instruments as well, including some very nice calligraphy sets - both 'real' pens and the kind that have ink dispensing cartridges.
All in all, the pricing I looked at seemed reasonable for what they were selling - highish without being blatantly aimed at ripping off dumb tourists (which many many MANY shops in Victoria seem to enjoy setting their prices for). I have several 'favorite' places to visit in Victoria already, and this one is definitely on the list now.
The only (tiny) issue I had was that the salesgirls were very happy to talk to each other and ignore the people in the store, and even when I was being rung through continued on a conversation. Still, it's a small store and there's very little one would need help with, so it wasn't a huge issue.
