Review from Rosie S.
OK, so be frank, this is NOT your Kensington vintage. At ALL.
This is NOT your wicked sexy cool Value Village 60s brown paisley trenchcoat you found for $17 bucks last week... no wait this is not MY $17 perfect vintage paisley jacket. I mean, that coat was a F*@#ing find, but that is not what we are dealing with here.
This is your place to go for major wardrobe investments. For the PERFECT red carpet ensemble. For the reward you give yourself with a crazy huge bonus. To heal the pain from a MAJOR breakup. When you sell your first book, sign your first record deal, you get me. When you need a pair of heels that will stop traffic and make you a superhero... but you just can't quite pay retail. Or you have a weakness for vintage (like yours truly).
This is your vintage Dior Couture evening gown for $1275 (marked down from $5,500). This is your barely-worn Manolos at 2/3 of the regular price. In case you hadn't noticed yet, this is HEAVEN.
The decor is gorgeous - crystal chandeliers, lush exotic carpets, etc.
The service is unparalleled. You will be treated like a princess, whether you're wearing a Chanel suit or a paper bag.
This is a store people from around the world know about. Celebrities, royalty (real, Hollywood, fashion, and otherwise), spoiled brats and society girls from around the world know that THIS is the place to go for vintage couture.
Now, unlike other vintage stores in the city, clothes are NOT arranged by era, colour or size.
THEY ARE ARRANGED BY DESIGNER.
Le sighhhhhhhhhhh.
Oh Balenciaga, why hast thou forsaken me? My VISA doth protest too much!
You can usually find a fine selection of frock finds for $300-$400, but most are in the $500-$700 range... with lots costing much more than that... plus varying numbers of unborn children, expendable organs, and/or immortal souls... but Prada is worth it, non?
Lastly? I have three words for you.
ATTAINABLE JIMMY CHOOS.
You're worth it.Listed in: Things I Discovered (or at…

I like to see the good in everything. I can find the humour in most over priced Rosedale-frequented stores. And I can look past the pretty but insanely dim witted sales girl. It's not her fault that she isn't smart, nor is it her fault that the owner refuses to relinquish any control whatsoever. She is allowed to answer the door, take your money, but is unable to do anything else. If you want to bring some of your beautiful but now useless (to you) clothes in, you need to wait for the manager. Who, is allowed to price those clothes sign the document that says they now pretty much own your things, but, he is not able to distribute cheques. This boils down, completely, to the owner. She obviously has control issues. And trust issues. And good business practice issues. Upon signing your life away to them, you agree to their terms. Fine. But you have to do all the follow up. They keep 60% of the sale price, and have 90 days to issue the cheque, but then no one informs you of a sale, or when it was sold, or even if the cheque is in the store available for pick up. Most people going in, think only of the clothes they are buying and the deals they are scoring. But think about how you are getting those deals. Because people get fed up with holding these idiots hands and end up just leaving their expensive clothes in frustration. If you don't physically go in and re-new your contract, the clothes are theirs. So even if you as the consumer buys that beautiful dress before their contract is up, the likely hood of the owner bothering to remember to sign the cheque is next to none. It's crowded, unorganized and an absolutely terribly run boutique. I would never purchase anything from there based solely on the fact that I know they are screwing other people out of their hard earned money. Which is too bad, cause people in this city have some kick a@@ things to re-sell.
