Had oysters and fish dip. Good variety of beers on tap. Service was great. Oysters are a buck a shuck in the afternoon.

Was taken here on my birthday. The decor is legit. Its authenticity seems to drip off of every minute detail of the space (even the menus are banded with 'seafood-esque' rubber bands (which I just had to yoink) ) !
We started off with 15 buck-a-shuck oysters and quickly realized that wasn't nearly going to be enough for two people. So we ordered the premium ones for seconds. The Malpeques were my favourite--buttery, smooth and absolutely sublime. Not having experience oysters before, I found out why people tend to ascribe aphrodisiac qualities to the little marine filter-feeders. There's just something intoxicating about being in an intimate environment, a couple glasses of house red and--well, you get the point.
We decided to go somewhere else for our entrée but I can safely say I will be back if I ever visit this wonderful city again. -

Great way to spend a lazy afternoon, between 4-5pm, lol... $1 oyster hour, paired with local Vancouver Island beers, hell you can't go wrong!
The oysters vary depending on what's available. But ping, there's nothing better than slurping down fresh oysters to a lovely sunset while taking down a few of your favorite beers (Pipers, Sea Dog, Double Decker).
Give me oysters and beer, or give me death! -

Unacceptable service. Good oysters. High drink prices. GREAT location (reason for unacceptable service).
I wish restaurants in this city would be satisfied with the beautiful scenery they have, and not employ beautiful, inexperienced, stuck up, non-caring waitstaff.
I tried this place for my birthday last year. I decided that it wasn`t going to ruin my night, so we left for Tapas Bar after the first course. I`ve been directing friends away from this place ever since. -

Fancy decor feeling. Personal sized pasta, fresh oysters, good large artisan cheese plate for non-seafood lovers.

I am so sorry to have to leave such a negative review for a relatively new restaurant, but they really leave me no choice. Tonight was the first time in 10 years that I have left $0 tip for a server. If not for the bartender who stepped in to provide some service, we probably would have bailed without paying our tab--not because we want to skip out on what we owe, but because the server completely neglected us. We couldn't get her attention long enough to ask for the bill!
I'll spare you all the gory details, but suffice it to say that our server knew nothing about the oysters (hello--this is your specialty!), the oysters that were served were good but really small, and our server was doing shots with the table behind us instead of providing us with service! Frankly, if the waitress had put in a little more effort, I might have been able to give a 3 star rating.
I don't know what it is about Canadians, but this is the 2nd time in this short trip that we've had a server doing shots with other guests to the detriment of the service we received. Get a clue people--we are on vacation, we are willing to spend money, we are willing to tip well if you earn it--get with the freaking program!!!!! -

A 4 for for the food quality - fresh oysters for a buck, crab dip with lots and lots of fresh, real crab and very nicely done garlic butter for clams and mussels.
A 1 for the slow, inattentive service. Being attractive (the waitress) doesn't mean I don't care about being served and about getting my food and my bill in a timely manner.
If you wear a gold chain and look like you're made of money you may get good service, the rest of you may not be so lucky. -

Areena's yelp on The Oyster is spot-on. My review herein concurs.
We arrived in Victoria after a day/ferry trip from Whistler, via the Nanaimo ferry. Once in our hotel, we did a search for oyster bars within walking distance. Up pops "The Oyster". We noted Arenna's yelp for this establishment.....notwithstanding, we made the trek at/about 7:45 pm.
First impression(s): every seat was taken (table tops, booths, bar top) - ok, so, it looks popular......but then:
Non attentive bar staff and waitresses. No courtesy greeting(s) upon our arrival. Well, ok, they were 'slammed' with earlier arriving patrons.
My yelp: read Areena M's yelp. I echo her words in-entirety.
Footnote: I did approach the manager and asked for some consideration to providing beverages and oyster specials. I knew he was 'preoccupied' with other patrons and, at first, he offered no smile or apology or deference to me.........fortunately (and gratefully) he eventually came to apologize, brought our orders personally (al be it 'late') and offered a round-on-the-house.
If you tolerate 2 star properties, then you will enjoy The Oyster. If you reach for more stars.....I suggest other establishments offering similar fare. We will while here. Will yelp further as we explore this wonderful City. -

Great oysters. Hope Points, Skookums and Royal Miyagis from BC and Puget Sound. Some of the best I've ever had, even in France. Service was sweet if a bit inept. Draft beer choices were a bit limited for a place like this. Terrific location.

I happened to notice their placard for a "Buck a Shuck" out in front when I walked by a couple days back. As a result I tried them out yesterday afternoon.
The place was pretty empty (5ish); it must be pretty new. I ordered a dozen oysters and a belgian white ale to accompany them. The oyster were local (Fanny Bay) and very fresh. The beer and service was also very good. I left before 6 so I have no idea how this place gets when there's a crowd (IF it gets a crowd).
Recommendation: At least go for the special. A buck an oyster is too good to pass up when they're this fresh. -

Food was pretty good, we got a couple appetizers; the stuffed calamari, some prawns, and tuna tataki.. Service meh, we came at 10:40 on a Friday and they were rushing us. The tuna and the prawn were good but the stuffed calamari was overcooked. Won't come back.

I'm quite surprised by some of the poor reviews. I'm not much of an oyster aficionado but my colleague felt like oysters so we went here. The service was exceptional - our server was very friendly and very attentive. What amazed me the most about this place though was the value - we ran the gamut on the menu - cocktails, appies, a dozen oysters, entrees and a bottle of wine, and the entire bill came to about half of what I would typically spend at a restaurant in Victoria.

I could see how some folk could be turned off because of the service. I sat at the bar and was promptly served but getting the servers attention after was a bit trying, but go with the flow and enjoy the "buck a shuck" oysters. I had a dozen Phantom Creek oysters that were so fresh and tasty, for 12 bucks it's probably the best deal in Victoria

We went for oysters only. We went over 4pm because they had the $1 oyster special. They have pretty good sauces, and many types of fresh oysters. Also, they had the best Cuban mojito that I had in a while. The real one :)

A buck a shuck can't be beat. However, the service can be improved. There was no sign that informed customers that they should seat themselves. Everyone's trying to get one guy's attention. A bit snooty. The only thing worthy to eat on the menu was the raw oysters. If your companions, or your kids, want to eat anything else, this is not the place to go.

I came here with some work colleagues for dinner on a Wednesday night. It was a bit later in the evening (about 8 or 9 PM) and there were maybe three or four other tables filled plus a couple people at the bar, so pretty empty, though it was a Wednesday night. According to our server, the place is pretty new (as was she). The menu consisted of several tapas-style dishes as well as some fresh oysters. I split a dozen of the Kusshi oysters with one of my colleagues, and they were excellent. Super fresh, super tasty. We also ordered some local cheeses, some edamame, crab and cambazola stuffed artichoke hearts, tomato braised meatballs, and albacore tataki. The food and service were great, the music and atmosphere were cool, and we were happy we stumbled upon this place. Will definitely come back here when I'm back in town.

Lack of service, lack of quality, lack of follow up when we finally had to ask for the manager. Terrible, we can't go back. There are much better spots in Victoria that appreciate the customer. Too bad, they were awesome before.

Some of the most fresh, tasty oysters I've had. Just $1 each between 4:30-6:30. We got there at 6:20 so ordered a dozen, which was not enough; our second round was in the $2.25-2.75 range. The pate was pretty good and the steamers were excellent. Nice drinks and friendly service.
