Ordered Bacon pancakes and Corned Beef and Hash

Although this is just a breakfast/ pancake house, I believe the food here tops all others. I have never had a better pancake. The food all around was delicious. When we arrived it was packed, but we were seated right away and had excellent service right away that never faltered. Our coffees and waters were always full.
I have been not only dreaming of the pancakes since then, but also recommending all others stop in to try as well.

Large varied menu and impeccable service are why I'm instantly a fan. Crepes, pancakes, and waffles all with a variety of ingredients. including bacon pancakes. I ordered the corned beef hash, eggs, and pancakes, and my companion ordered the chocolate chip waffles. The generous portion of hash was seasoned nicely and the pancakes were just right. Though I'm not a huge fan of these sorts of things, the chocolate waffles were delicious as well. The service was excellent, coffee never went empty, which is job one in my book, and she even went so far as to open the ketchup for me! I will definitely be back.

I have been numerous times and mostly order a veggie omelet or pancakes.  I adore the chocolate chip pancakes.  Yum!  Giant orders.  Expect a line when you go on weekends.  It's quite a popular place and not that big.  It's more expensive than the Denny's of the world but much better in comparison.

I may be one of the few who gives this place a " meh" review but it's for a reason... Being the long wait for a table and a longer wait for someone to help us n the food. The food was no different from Denny's or I-hop.... plus the proportions are not so great as well... Just another place if u ask me!

Your basic pancake house.  Big portions.  I'd say it is nothing special, but that isn't a bad thing.  It's a chain of sorts.

The Idaho style potatoes are good.  The potato pancakes were laden with butter, so much so that I couldn't even eat it, and I have eaten a stick of butter with a loaf of bread before.

Well, treated my teen girls for a breakfast out and gotta say I was disappointed. No silverware or noons on table when we were seated, butter from the patrons before us was still on the table.  Coffee was served and spilled and I cleaned it up.  Food came out for kids, without mine.  Waited, waited, waited....asked for them to take my bacon back to keep warm.  Table to the left were talking about their order being wrong, toast not pancakes....eggs not done correctly.   Table to the right, looking for silverware and napkins.....

The bill.....$42 without tip.  Spoke with manager, and was compensated $8.

My main thing when dining out is that the food be hot.  It was.

Went to try the Chocolate Chip Pancakes, and they did not disappoint.

This place has figured out pancake batter. I have never had a pancake with better texture and flavor.

    Can't wait to return!!

It seems I've been hitting up a lot of breakfast places lately. It's been hard to draw me away from the Lincoln Square Pancake House on 56th and Emerson, but the rave reviews for Keystone Deli managed it. I'll be mixing that one in frequently, as it's terrific also. So when I needed a brunch on Saturday, I thought I'd try out the Original Pancake House. In a word: Disappointing.

I felt pretty jammed in here among large tables and it was really loud. Everything seemed very cramped and the lack of carpet or other sound dampeners meant everything just echoed, forcing people to talk louder, which only exacerbated the problem. This was not a relaxing experience.

Then I opened the menu. I couldn't believe the prices! These breakfast foods must be baked with gold because it seemed incredibly expensive to me, especially after my recent experiences at other places. $8 for pancakes with no sides? $4+ for a side of bacon? You've got to be kidding me. To make matters worse, there were very few combo options. So if you simply wanted some pancakes and bacon, you were paying $12-$13 with nothing else offered.

Contrast this with a recent meal at the Keystone Deli, where I had pancakes, 2 eggs, smoked sausage, and potatoes (all large portions) for around $7-8 total. Oh, and the food at the Deli was vastly superior to the OPH.

So how was the food? My pancakes were acceptable but not special. The bacon was cut very thick, not very crispy, and seemed soaked with grease. It was almost like it had not been hot enough during cooking or that the bacon was so thick that it soaked up all the grease. I didn't enjoy it.

I'll be avoiding OPH in the future. However, judging from the overflow crowd, it seems I may be the only one who feels this way.

Yeah, I'm giving it 5 stars, even though it's just a breakfast place. Why, because as pancake houses go, this is pretty much tops. Really good waffles, pancakes, french toast, and other less ordinary specialties like German Baby Pancakes. It's always packed, but the people are always friendly and the service is good.

This place is okay. It is right by my house, and always packed. The first time we went, I got the dutch baby. It really didn't taste like much of anything to me. It was an eggy custardy bowl of nothingness. The second time we went I got the apple pancakes, which were pretty good but the bottom was slightly burnt.

My husband did much better with his omelette. It was huge and packed full of goodies. A bite of it with a bite of my apple pancakes cut the sweetness and made everything in my world okay.

    Chocolate Chip Pancakes! Nuff Said!!!!

Okay, I'll expound some more. They only serve breakfast here (and some lunchy type fare) and are only open till 2pm. Their pancakes are exactly how pancakes should be. Never rubbery or doughy but just right and hot, hot, hot! The banana pancakes have banana in them and the chocolate chip pancakes have, tada, chocolate chip in them. The presentation is just as well executed. It looks delicious! Their bacon is meaty and thick and their eggs are always done perfectly. Yes it is a chain, but the staff makes this place feel local. On a weekend morning, be prepared to wait in line. However, if you're willing to sit outside as well as inside you may be seated more quickly.

Original Pancake House is a great place for sweet breakfasts.  They have a wonderful assortment of pancakes, crepes, waffles, etc.  Service is good, and I think it only gets crowded on Sunday afternoons.

My main complaint is that everything savory is disgusting.  Breakfast burritos, chicken crepes, corned beef hash, eggs, you name it.  Everything I've had here that wasn't sweet was terrible.  If you know to stick to the sweet side of the menu, however, you won't be disappointed.

We had breakfast here shortly after moving to Indy and I wasn't overly impressed.  It was a weekday morning so they were somewhat busy.  I felt that our food was overpriced for what we received.  It was relatively quick and our server was nice.

I do have to say - it's awesome that you can get potato pancakes as your bread option - of course, for an extra charge.  They were pretty good, although I like mine a little crispier.

So I am a creature of nature.  I find a place that I enjoy I go again and again.  Well I first discovered the Original Pancake House when I moved to Birmingham.  I was very excited to find out that there was on in Indy.  This one does not disappoint.

I always order the Sunrise Breakfast..big ole pieces of bacon, scrambled eggs w/cheese and pancakes...YUMMY.  The service is good...I say good only because sometimes they appear to be in such a hurry.  The food is great and since I tend to dine alone I love all of the chatter.

This is a place where when I have visitors we always go.   I know that I should venture outside of my zone more often but why should I when I find such great places the first time :-)

I'm surprised to see that some are unimpressed with OPH. I dig this place. I've never been unhappy with anything I've ordered here, sweet or savory, but I usually come specifically for the Dutch Baby. This is a huge, HUGE Dutch pancake--bigger than your head huge--smothered in powdered sugar and served with lemons to squeeze over top. I recommend springing to add the bananas--they just give it that certain extra something. Mmmm. Let me state again, however, that it is ginormous, so come hungry.

In fact, most of the portions are pretty hearty here, with the omlettes arriving stuffed to the breaking point and the crepes bursting with fresh berries. I also like that the walls are decorated with pictures of the food that's served there. It can get packed on the weekends, though--particularly on Sunday with the after-church crowd. If you can, I'd recommend coming during the week.

The Original Pancake House is a nice place to get a breakfast meal. If you go the Original Pancake House, you pretty much have you get pancakes! All of their sweet breakfast items are good, including the french toast.

There is typically a wait, but they have a rather large dining area, so the wait is not too long. The wait staff is great -- they are very attentive with orders, drinks, and anything you need. You'll get your meal rather quick and it's typically quite large and delicious!

The greatest restaurant, locally owned, chain, and or both, that I've ever been to, period. And I've found the same quality from California to Chicago to Indianapolis to Cleveland.

It's a nation-wide chain that doesn't give out its franchise tag or secret recipes lightly, so every single one of them is top quality. It's perfect for breakfast or brunch, especially since they're not open for dinner.

If you're hungry and love breakfast food, this place is heaven! Ginormous dutch pancake (one huge, fluffy, custardy pastry) smothered in apple/cinnamon/sugar/syrup goodness and dubbed the Apple Pancake is my hands down favorite dish to order from any restaurant anywhere in the country.

But don't let that shy you away from the omelettes.

I believe they include some pancake batter and bake these monsters, because they're light, fluffy, volumous and oh so tasty. Never, ever burnt or rubbery, and they contain simple goodness (my favorite being the corned beef hash and cheddar cheese!)

You will not be disappointed, my friend. Oh no, you will not be disappointed.

Its ok, they charge an arm and a leg for a small 8oz  "fresh squeezed orange juice" their food is pretty good.  Its nothing spectacular but its better then IHOP.  Don't come here on weekends, its packed to the brim and the wait is easily 1hr.  It is best that Indy has to offer.

Came here today after a doctor's appointment & sat outside. The flowers/weeds were really overgrown, but I'm here for the food, right? I ordered the pecan waffle & some Texas-style potatoes, which are home-fries-cubed potatoes friend w/ onion & garlic. the potatoes were good, nice & crispy, but I guess I should've read the menu better, as the pecan waffle doesn't have pecans in the batter, merely sprinkled on top. The waffle wasn't the greatest, either. I wish I would've seen the spinach crepe special they were offering before I ordered. My husband's meal was OK he said, but I didn't like his latkes. They were a little greasy & definitely had no onion flavour to them, & they weren't really crispy. For the 2 of us, it was $25 with tip, which seems a bit high for a quick lunch & one iced tea, but I guess it is what it is. I'm merely apathetic toward this restaurant. Not great, but not Denny's.

My wife and I went here for the first time today recently, a Sunday around 12:30pm for a late breakfast. They were pretty busy because of the church crowds, so service was a bit slow, but not bad by any means. My wife and I both agree that we had the best pancakes of our lives here. She had the bacon pancakes with a side of potatoes and loved them. I had pancakes, bacon, eggs over easy, and coffee. All very well-cooked and delicious--although the coffee was just average and didn't stand out. If pancakes aren't your thing, the menu has several other options including crepes, french toast, and omelets. We got out of there spending about $20 and it was well worth it. The only complaint I have is that a glass of juice or milk was incredibly overpriced and there were no free refills, which is why I went with the coffee and my wife just had water. Despite that though, we will definitely be returning soon.
