4 reviews for The Orange Room

Vive le difference! The last time I came here it was under the old ownership and they couldn't even get muffins and coffee right. This time, with the new owners, what can I say but wow, that's a tasty brunch.
Going with the French theme of the restaurant, with its black and white photos of Paree decorating the deep orange walls, we had French toast drizzled in chocolate and the French Benny - eggs served on croissants with homemade hollandaise. The coffee was pretty good, too!
I don't normally do the fancy brunch thing, but the Orange Room has a wonderful relaxing atmosphere and very nice, efficient service. It's a nice step up from the usual down-home diners in the neighbourhood, not that there's anything wrong with that.
We're definitely going to be back to try the dinner menu.
I don't come out this way often but it was time we finally met near the where one of my friends lives - she's been giving this place two thumbs up so a group of us came by this weekend.
Aside from getting lost in New West even with my GPS and tackling some scary hills, the resto was actually quite easy to find. A block away from the Royal City Mall and lots of street parking around. (Just a tip, it's free if you park a block over on 5th St - no meters!)
Prices are quite inexpensive and service is good. All breakfast items were $10 and under. I had the smoked salmon omelet for $10. Great value, although it was WAY too eggy and not enough salmon.
Came with some fresh fruit, excellent hash browns and toast. Some unique features are the house-made orange butter that they serve with your toast, and they have a smoked ketchup that tastes like a mix of BBQ sauce and ketchup which is quite tasty. Nice use of free range meats and eggs so you can feel good while you eat!
It's a good brunch spot if you're in the area but I wouldn't specially make a trip out this way. My friend said the lunch and tapas items are quite good so might be worth checking out if you're nearby!
The Orange Room has become a regular spot for lunch.
The food is a great change from the rest available in the area. I haven't had something I wouldn't order again and the daily soups never disappoint! Always seem to be out of some tasty sounding desserts though. Pricing is in line with the food.
In addition the the food the staff are fantastic. From our first visit we felt like regulars. I continue going back for the food and the atmosphere the staff create!
I also tend to ask our waitress to surprise me with a drink that would accompany my meal and have always been happy with the selection!
The tapas were the best I've ever had! the chef is brilliant! However, be prepared to wait for it. The night I was there, there was a full house and only one waitress for the whole restaurant! I don't know if that is a normal practice, but if you are not in the mood to wait 20 minutes for your coffee or an uncaring wait staff, I would not suggest this restaurant.
Specialties
We want to provide the kind of food we like to eat: high quality and fresh, not highly processed, chemical-laden and pre-packaged. For example, for brunch, our Eggs Benedicts' Hollandaise sauce is made fresh, not from a powder. We also want to be affordable and satisfying - we all deserve a nice place to go with reasonable prices, don't you think? Allergies and sensitivities are important for us too, so we have many wheat and dairy-free options, as well as a large selection of vegetarian and vegan dishes.
History
Established in 2004
The original Orange Room started in 2004 with the goal of providing healthy foods in an inviting and community-oriented atmosphere. The present owners were customers, and bought it in 2008. After investing in scaling up the kitchen, it was re-opened in February, 2009, with the new tagline of "tapas with atmosphere." Despite the title, there's a lot more than just small plates! The Orange Room serves lunch Tuesday through Friday, dinner Tuesday through Saturday. Weekends are time for brunch: 8am to 4pm.
Meet the Business Owner: Paloma E.
Half French, half Spanish, Paloma loved the previous Orange Room, and so when the opportunity presented itself she jumped in and bought it. Paloma wants to provide a place for everyone to enjoy quality fresh food in the company of friends, and hopes to see you soon at the Orange Room!
