What a new promo they have now, 20% off dim sum from 2:30-4:30, think it's only on weekdays!

Located in a busy intersection of granville/West 41st ave., free parking underground or surface lot fr Impark.

Ordered the stuffed eggplant w/ shrimp, which was really good w/ its black bean sauce.

The BBQ pork bun was a bit above average, good size but the sauce could've been better.

Shrimp dumpling dipped in XO sauce (extra) is always a good thing!

Nicer decor than norm, white table cloths, some booth seating too even.

Great service & recommendation for those who want to avoid the Richmond traffic...

and dim sum is all day, even in the evening!

Came here for lunch with an old friend. I didn't know the menu very well as I am used to Dim Sum where they bring carts around. Apparently that's becoming a thing of the past? Anyway I didn't realize (as an English speaker) the cold dishes are at the beginning and the warm ones are one or two pages in. The staff wasn't very helpful in this regard. We were the only white people there, which is a good sign in my books, but also means, apparently, they don't cater to non-Asian noobs like me by helping me out with the menu.
We ended up ordering way too much food, but what we did get was very good. The hostess said "See you next week" in a sing-song voice as we left. Wishful thinking or good marketing strategy? I'm new to Vancouver and with so many restaurants to choose from I rarely go back to the same one, I want to try them all!
That being said, I would go back to The One to try more dishes, with someone who knows Chinese preferably.

While on vacation in Vancouver, I was lured here by my fabulous elegant foodie aunt with promises of large, juicy xiao lung bao and tea smoked duck. They didn't disappoint! The xiao lung bao were practically free at $1.00 per basket of 3 when ordered along with our huge banquet style dinner feast. The tea smoked duck was flavorful and large. The BF was satisfied with everything we ate and found the veggies and tofu cold dish to be very appetizing. I was a huge fan of the stewed pomelo peels and sea cucumbers.

We'll certainly visit this place again the next time we find ourselves in beautiful B.C.

    * Not THE one *

Tucked away in the basement on the corner of Granville and 41st this medium sized restaurant offers dim sum for breakfast and lunch.

    I sampled three dishes:

    - Har gow (shrimp dumpling):  These were huge.  I'm talking BIG!  I have a big mouth and these were 3 bite dumplings.  Honestly that is too big.  It made them unwieldy.  You might also notice from the photo that because of their gargantuan size they had to be smushed into the steamer making the skins from each dumpling stick to the ones next to it.  I got the impression they were going for quantity over delicate quality with these.  The wrappers suffered from oversteaming as well, making it even more difficult to separate them.  The huge amount of shrimp inside were quite fresh and tasty though.  Photo:  http://www.yelp.ca/biz...

    - Scallop and shrimp dumpling:  Once again these were ridiculously large and suffered from the same smushing into the steamer.  These were even more over steamed and lifting them out of the steamer the skins separated immediately from the contents.  Once again the filling was quite fresh, with a shrimp filling mixed with a few greens, topped with a half a scallop, and topped with some fish roe.  But the over steaming killed it as the skins were bordering on mushy unfortunately.  Photo:  http://www.yelp.ca/biz... and http://www.yelp.ca/biz...

    - Sesame "cake" with beef:  This was the typical pastry based sesame flat bread filled with beef and sliced cucumber.  The beef was served cold, as was the cucumber.  The "cake" was slightly warm as if it had been made in advance but not that long ago.  It was served with a side of hoisin to flavour to your liking.  The beef was a bit chewier than I would normally like, and the pastry was not as flaky as I would like.  The cucumbers were a nice touch, as frequently when I've had this dish it has the pickled veggies and the freshness of the cucumber was nice as a substitute.  Photo:  http://www.yelp.ca/biz... and http://www.yelp.ca/biz...

As an aside, between the hours of 9:30 and 11:30 they take 20% off all dim sum, for what it is worth....But perhaps "The One" isn't THE one (no matter what discount they offer) for me.....I found it to just be "ok" and nothing I would rush back for.

The One has recently opened to replace Granville George in the basement unit of this popular corner on 41st & Granville.

I hear they do dim sum as well, but this Shanghainese restaurant was recommended to me based purely on their utterly delicious smoked duck and as such I only went for dinner.

The smoke duck or smoked fish are apparently their specialty and if there's only one dish you order I would highly recommend you try that duck. It's insanely delicious and is easily new competition to all the other Chinese restaurants out there doing smoked duck.

The rest of their dishes are prepared equally well and overall the meal I had was tasty and once again resulted in overeating.

Service seems a little clumsy at times but they're trying hard. It was the middle of a Monday night and there were only 4 tables of people 2 of which were a birthday party.  I'm not sure if it was so quiet because of it being a new name or the fact that it was a Monday.

Either way, don't be afraid. I'd say give this place a shot  (at least for dinner) and you'll find that you're in for a treat.

We came here as guests for my mom-in-law's birthday dinner. My brother-in-law hosted - he prides himself as a bit of a foodie but his focus is decidedly Chinese and he gravitates to places where service dotes on him. Every dish was plated rather than informally shared - at least until we asked them to stop because we were all getting full.

The place is very nice, decor wise but having never been at this location in its previous incarnations, I don't have a point of reference. We dined in a semi-private room - not that we needed it because the place was fairly empty, it being right after Christmas on a Monday evening.

    Dishes:
    Roast pork and jellyfish appetizer
    Shark fin soup
    Tea smoked duck
    Crab sauce pea shoots
Sea cucumber with fresh bamboo shoot & stewed pomelo peel
Simmered siu choi (napa cabbage) with ham
    Lobster with coconut scented risotto
    Crab sauce longevity noodles

The smoked duck was OK - I prefer roast duck myself. When smoked, the fat doesn't render off and the skin isn't crispy. I found it a bit on the salty side but my 6-year-old son loved it and the roast pork. The lobster was well prepared and very flavourful but it was a very filling dish.  I liked both veggie dishes as they were not too heavy. By the time the noodles came to wrap up the meal, most of us were stuffed.

Service was attentive but I wonder if it would be the same if the place was packed. It was definitely a very expensive meal but I'm only guessing that based on the menu items.

Gossip behind the name...according to my in-laws.  A Hong Kong billionaire felt jilted by a mistress who left him for another super rich but much younger guy.  Apparently she had told the older suitor he was "the one."  When her wedding to the new flame was announced the jilted one placed a multi-story ad on the side of 1 of his high rise buildings congratulating her on her engagement from "the one."  Forcing her to explain the reference to the gossip media.  The restaurant name is a playful reference to the affair.

Went for weekday dim sum.  The decor was comfortable & the service excellent.  You can park in the garage under the building & get validated parking during office hours.  The fare was standard dim sum, but all very well prepared & presented.

The One restaurant doesn't have the flashiest name but the food is pretty spectacular.

It doens't look like much from the outside but is it located on the bottom floor of the building.
I wasn't doing the ordering for this particular family outing but here is my recollection of the highlights:

    Cold dish appetizers
-drunken chicken-indeed drunk,  I got buzzed eating this (not really)
-tofu w/green herb- parsely I think?  nice veggie option
-pork head cheese-salty and porky-kind of like classier spam

Soup-not sure what kind it was. Had mushroom and I think some pork in brown broth.  Not too memorable, but I had 3 bowls fo it.

    Peking Duck
-Always a crowd pleaser.  Nice crispy lacquered skin.  The green onion needed to be pulled appart to fit better into the wrap.

    tea smoked Duck
-tasted like duck ham do to the smokey flavors *yum*

deep fried fish w/seaweed batter- my favorite of the night!  Funny to eat something crispy and battered but green colored! like something out of Dr. Seuss!

Pea pod greens- the only way to take your green veggies in my opinion.  Nice big and leafy. Who needs spinach!?

Pork meat w/egglpant and sweet bao cups-
best way to explain this is ground meat (pork I think, maybe duck?) sauteed with chinese eggplant and spices.  This is scooped into a bao that is shaped like tart.  Pretty freaking amazing actually.

The food altogether was great and this was the 'back up' restaurant as our first choice was booked solid due to a wedding.  Parking is conveniently located in an underground lot adjacent to the restaurant.
