Yesterday, I came with a friend to The One Cafe. I ate rice with beef. I couldn't really say it was that good because it sort of tasted weird with the BBQ sauce. However the meet wasn't chewy. Still, I think it would be better without the sauce because it made it salty.
In the price range, it was not the best. I went to a store with better food and it wasn't as expensive. However, the waiters were pretty nice. I thought this restaurant wouldn't be one of my favourites, but I thought it still deserved a second try. -

After a long day at work, I was craving some hong kong style seafood baked rice. Since it was conviniently across from the skytrain station, I decided to stop by The One for a quick bite before heading home.
Now when The One was still The One at Parker Place, it was my food court favourite. Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner, I would order from there. When they switched into a full throttle restaraunt though, things changed for the worse.
I ordered a baked rice with a cup of cold lemon tea. The drink was alright, service was okay, but the food sucks. They should consider renaming their "baked seafood rice" with "baked raw onion rice"! all i got were WAY too many pieces of uncooked onions, a few shrimps and a few pieces of squids. The meal cost me 12 dollars in total including tax & tips. -

This place is much like Jet Li's terrible movie of the same name.
Went here with my parents over the weekend for dinner and I can't say we enjoyed our meal at all.
We ordered from the more regular share dishes instead of the typical fried rice or other HK cafe fare.
We ordered the seafood and tofu hot pot, sauteed fish with celery, oriental-style beef and eggs with prawns.
The seafood, especially the squid in the hot pot, was not fresh at all. I didn't eat very much of it to be safe. The vegetables were decent though and I stuck mostly to that throughout the night. The lotus root soup that accompanied the meal was good as well, but a tad salty. The best dish was the eggs with prawns...and thank god they didn't screw that up.
Unfortunately, they used quite a lot of MSG in the food and I was getting thirsty big time. At least they had the football game on.
With so many other HK cafes to go to in Richmond, I can't see how long this place will remain in business.
Sorry, but you are not The One. -

Located right across the Brighouse Canada Line station, this is another one of the countless HK style cafes in Richmond.
Typical HK style cafe fare. It's a pretty big place but it's usually quite busy. They have a 'pick your own noodles combo' menu, much in the style of Cattle Cafe.
On the day I came, we were intending to share a scallop fried rice and the noodles. The fried rice came quickly, which actually was a large portion and tasted pretty good. My noodles however, didn't come out, even after half an hour. I did get my iced milk tea that comes with the noodles. The milk tea was not so good. They don't use the real evaporated milk and instead use a milk powder. A big no in my books of milk tea.
We were in a hurry so we asked the server to cancel the noodles. She was actually very nice about it, and took it off the bill.
It's a convenient location, but without a decent milk tea, it's unlikely that I will be back. -

We went there for lunch today, they were so busy during the lunch hour.
There is nothing special about the menu. It is largely HK Style Cafe type of dishes made up of noodles, hot pots, rice and western style dishes too. The prices are OK and inline with the prices of similar dishes you find in other HK Style Cafe. So that is good.
