I love this little market! It's right down the road from my house and the store is stocked with wholesome and tasty goods!
Make sure you check out the tasting room through a lil door in the back!! Cheap & Fab wine "flights"! I say "flights" because typically a flight is a one or two ounce pour, Not at this lil Gem!! 4 glasses, several ounces each and a great price. Combined, I have nearly everything I need in Life on this corner.. And my bed's just a few blocks away. -
Review from Sami S.
The only reason they get -1 star is just b/c its a little pricy. But understandable because they have an awesome selection of goodies for the whole family!
*The beer/wine/drink selection is the bomb - especially on a groggy Sunday afternoon when your mouth tastes like a foot.
*Chocolate chip cookies that are sooooo delish!! They even have different kinds of chips in them.
*The deli makes such good sammies - BOARS HEAD!! That's the key to a good sandwich for realz....believe this girl.
*Everyone is super nice and laid back behind the counter...makes it a pleasure to shop there
Overall, I'm here almost everyday and they have the most wicked flavor of Arizona tea but I can't tell you cuz then you'd all buy it out from under me!!!! -

Everything about this place is amazing...the food, the people, the beer and wine selection. Don't miss the cookies, The Tasting Room (Thurs, Fri, Sat) or their new restaurant, Kechos...all on the same property. Lots of easy free parking in the back!

Review from Kim N.
Pretty much the cutest wine tasting room ever. Seriously, there is room for maybe 10 people in here, so it is nice and cozy. I like that it is attached to a neat little market as well.
Being that this place is located in Ocean Beach, service is pretty laid back. So laid back that even with such a tiny tasting room, you need to put a little effort into getting someone to take a food order. But that's okay. And the wines are good. Not spectacular, but good. What is spectacular are the prices - very reasonable for a glass or a flight of wine.
And to top it all off - a parking lot in the back. Perfect. -

This place gave out free ice to anyone passing by during the power outage - so generous. The employees are very nice and personable too. The food is expensive as it is a small gourmet foods kind of place, but we pay for the convenience and the wonderful selection of natural foods.

I am so bummed this place is far from me. Thankfully the deli is open later than usual and grabbing a quick healthy bite when I am hungry does not involve a grocery store. Steve took me here saying it was his second favorite deli. I would have to agree with him. I ordered a turkey, bacon, tomato, etc... and it was substantial and tasted heavenly. The bread was fresh, not too much mayo, just yummy. If you are in OB and hungry this the place.

This is a marketplace, like an actual grocery store, with a deli inside. The deli has these sandwiches that you can get in a whole or half. They're pretty good. I had the turkey with bacon, some kind of mustard, etc etc, on wheat? I believe it was called the OC Special. I love places that give you bread options, because sometimes I like to choose. I can only say that I wish my bread was toasted, maybe next time I can recommend it. When the bread is more toasted, that spreads wouldn't make it so soggy so fast.

Woo Loo Loo!
In search of some Russian River Brewing beer, a polite employee at BevMo told me about The Olive Tree Marketplace. What an awesome little store in an unsuspecting neighborhood.
I picked up a bottle of Pliny the Elder and Blind Pig from Russian River. They had a nice assortment of "off the beaten path" types of beers in bombers and 6 packs.
If I didn't have beer tunnel vision I would've check out more of this little market but well, I couldn't see beyond the brew. -

So happy that this great place is just a couple short blocks from me. The offer sandwiches, cold cuts, salads and more at the deli, all very yummy. They also stock basics you may need last minute or maybe if you're just craving a pint of ice cream. The pint of ice cream would also be a good accompaniment for one of the fresh Julian Pie Company pies they stock.
Their selection of beer and wine is really great for the size of the store. They also have a tasting room in the back that is open at select times. In the tasting room they offer a few flights of red wines, white wines and beer for a very reasonable price.
My only tiny issue with this place is their prices, they are kind of high. But I guess that should be expected based on the higher quality products they carry and the fact that they are a small specialty type store so they aren't buying in bulk like the supermarkets are. -

Its not cheap for OB but OB is so cheap its ridiculous- Good selection of booze and deli is excellent. I usually get my Julian pies from here and always come away with more than I need.

Great selection of beer and wine! Tasty deli selections. Walking distance from the casa. It's almost a five star BUT...
Beware of sticker shock on some of the other items. Jarred pasta sauce you'd find at any old grocery store for 5 bucks....really?
Also, a beer and wine tasting room tucked away in the back. Great place overall, though. Friendly staff, high quality stuff. -

Can you be laid back AND sophisticated?
Of course, just look at yours truly (HA!)
Kidding aside, this little neighborhood market has everything you would expect from a neighborhood deli back East (Jersey is the homeland) but with a huge wine and craft beer selection.
Sandwiches are made to order with some very Californian choices. Boars head meat.
They have a good selection of bagged breads, artisan breads and they "bake" their own solunto rolls to boot.
They also have a great selection of tortilla chips (El Indio!), salsas, cheeses, cured meats etc.
Grocery shopping here is probably more for emergencies as they can be a little pricey on packaged goods.
But if you're showing up to a party in OB, you can be a star by grabbing drinks and/or eats from here. -

Olive Tree now has a tasting room in the back!
It's a well decorated intimate space with low lighting. Because it's in the back of the store it feels like you're a vip at a private event. Swanky!
Delicious flights of beer and killer wines are available after 4pm Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays and they even host private events.
Mike behind the bar was super knowledgeable about everything he was serving and was able to recommend the perfect beer for me. Hoppy Daze by Coronado. Yum!
I enjoyed the beer so much I totally over-tipped (like 100%) but everything was so inexpensive my wallet didn't notice and I'll surely be back to see what else they have to offer.
Bonus: You get 10% off your purchase inside the store with your tasting room receipt!Listed in: OB is home to me, I don't always eat meat, but…, updated and down graded, Someone call 911, the kitchen…

Olive Tree has a great selection of hard-to-find craft beers that just keeps getting better every time I go in. They even have a small tasting room now!
They also have interesting craft sodas that are fun to try if you can handle the sugar. And, the bread is great, I always pick up a loaf of sourdough.
Haven't tried anything from the deli, but I have to assume it's good!
This is one of the few places you can find California hot sauce. If you know what that is, you know what I mean. They have a ton of other hot sauces too.
I always enjoy killing some time perusing the wares here, and I can usually make it home without breaking the bank! -

I came here only to get Julian apple Pies! So my review is to let you know, they get these same Julian apple Pies delivered from Julian so you don't have to drive there to get one!! Fresh fresh fresh and very very gooooooood! If you havn't had a Julian pie, you must come here to get it and try it!!! Very affordable, under $10 bucks for the whole pie.
There is parking behind the market or street parking. -

Holy moly I LOVE this place. The tasting room is so fun, the guys totally get to know you and they have the best beer selection in town. Also their deli is pretty good. I really like the seaweed salad.
It is a great place to go for a date or for a happy hour, you guys rock! -

We dropped by here to pick up some sandwiches on the way to the beach. They were really good, the kids were all over there's. The sandwiches came out pretty fast as well.
Worth a shot, prices are decent as well, good selection of other things in the market to try. (Tried a peanut butter and chocolate brownie, was delish) -

I felt it might be time for an update.
A year later and this is still my go to sandwich spot on days when I can't be bothered to slap some meat between some bread at home.
I've graduated onto the hot sandwiches though, current favorites are
Sunset Cruise on an Onion Roll with Provolone, no mustard
James Dean, no mustard.
Try one of those (You can get mustard if you like, I just hate the stuff) and you won't regret it. SC on an onion roll is great due to the complexity of the flavors and textures working together, James Dean is great due to the simplicity.1 Previous Review: Show all »

Best sandwhich in town, hands down. Can't get myself to order anything except the Californian on sourdough. Mmmmm.....
The sandwhiches are 5 star no doubt, however, I left out 1 star for one reason and one reason only - the employees. I don't usually factor in employee attitudes in my reviews, nonetheless, everytime I go to this place it seems like everyone has a stank attitude. Seems like these employees need a raise? Ah well... of course perfection has to be muttled by SOMETHING... -

very nice high end food market. Meaning they have a bunch of fancy stuff like truffle oil, exotic cheeses, u know, fancy stuff. They have these long baguets of seeded sourdough for $3 that i get all the time. They also have some amazing marinaded steaks that are really good if you want to drop some coin.
I have also had a chicken salad sandwich from there that was really good, ended up lasting for two meals. I recommend -

Their number has been in my phone for the last decade. I could literally eat the entire store. Never a bad meal or a mix up here. Mom always makes me take her here when visiting.
If forced to make a complaint; later deli/sandwich hours. This is coming from someone whom desires a 24 hour world. -

Whaaaaaaaat? I haven't written a review on Olive Tree Market yet?
Let it be known that there is a HUGE difference between this Olive Tree and the Olive GARDEN of famed chain ridden craptastic Italian cuisine.
One has cute boys working there. The other has TV commercials.
One has Olive Tapenade with delightful cheeses. The other has that plastic cheese grinder thingamajig they bring to the table.
One has fresh toasted Pastrami sammiches called THE Manhattan. The other has booster seats.
One has spicy Jalapeno chips and Henry Weinhard Creamy root beer. The other has pre-made desserts trucked in after they've lost all flavor in some case in a distribution center in east county.
One has customers that see me eyeing the Haagen Daz and suggests the Dulche De Leche flavor. The other has large chunks of steak in their pasta (give your head a shake Olive Garden).Listed in: You're in OB, with no wheels, ROTD

Very good spot for a sandwich and other essentials - they have a great beverage selection and for a toasty sub, this place is tops. This is a favorite of mine when heading to the cliffs for sunset - everything you need for a lil picnic on the rocks.

Upscale and O.B. ... baaaaahhahahhaa...
No seriously it is. I know this cause i shop here and i consider myself to be upscale and OB. This place is a great little market and would be perfect in many other upscale and overpriced places like Boca Raton, Aspen, Beverly Hills or St. Moritz.
I buy my $7 thing of upscale goat cheese here and smear it on a $3 seedy sourdough bagette they sell that's shipped in fresh everyday from a snooty bakery in Hillcrest called Bread and Cie.
I buy very overpriced wine here like a donkey as well. I know i should drive 10 more minutes down the street and go to Baron's or Trader Joe's... but i'm seriously lazy. So i shop here instead. I prefer to pay upscale prices for quality goods in exchange for my shear and utter lack of motivation.
I will pay out my ass for milk, eggs and penut butter as well cause i ain't taking my snobby ass to another store. No chance.
They also have a great selection of quality meats.. i love their overpriced Kabob's! The steak ones are excellent and run out quick! So don't drag your ass and expect to get them right before dinner time. They go perfect with many of the other upscale and over-priced items in the store!
They bake their own cookies too!! They're great when you wouldn't dare take the time to actually bake cookies like me.. so i take these $3 treats home and quickly heat them up in my upscale and overpriced microwave. Voila! Mr. Fields!
Bottom line.. if you're a pretentious, LAZY glutton like me and don't care about prices in exchange for quality and convenience... shop here! It's totally overpriced! But totally upscale ... and convienent! -

I have never bought anything here other than wine or beer.
Buuuuuuuut.... ....Mike is the man! Always getting in bottles I want, and pricing them really well.
There are other great bottle shops in north county (HWC and PPBS), and some in south county (SBD), but olive tree really is the best bottle shop in San Diego county. The tasting room they opened is just the icing on the cake.
Mike has done very impressive things with a somewhat unassuming neighborhood market in OB. And is the only reason (sans pizza port) that i'll venture into OB.
keep up the good work. -

Great wine shop with a deli. I haven't eaten at the deli but I have bought rotisserie chickens when in need of a quick dinner fix. Also, there are ALWAYS people eating at the three tables outside. It's also a market so you can pick up various things you may need to fix...say...something for a small dinner party: cheeses, sausage, frozen foods, snacks, etc.
Mostly I would go to purchase wine. If you're like me and don't know too much about wine this place is great. I felt fine standing there like an idiot because the place is too OB for you to feel like you might get snubbed by the guys who work there. Those guys are always helpful. Many of the wines have a tag with the wine's reviews and points, too. -

This review is long overdue... This is a FANTASTIC market that I find myself in about every other day because I live so close by. They have a great selection of craft beer and wine. The deli sandwiches are huge and delicious and come with a crisp, perfect dill pickle. They carry dairy, juice, craft sodas, mixers, deli sliced meat, salads, pasta, raw meat, cheese, chips and crackers, Julian pies, grilled chicken, canned goods, freshly baked bread, fresh produce, coffee, tea, baked goods, condiments, household goods, etc. I like that a lot of the items they carry are made locally. Some of the household goods that probably don't get purchased as often are super over-priced, but I never buy those things so whatever. The people that work here have always been friendly and helpful. I feel so lucky to live so close to such a wonderful establishment. I look forward to trying out their tasting room next door.

I've been hitting up the OTM with increasing regularity due to it being one of the few places in OB with a solid beer selection. AleSmith Speedway Stout, I'm talking about you...
Some may say I have a problem when I spend $10.68 for midweek dinner and it consists of a $10.49 bottle of beer and a $0.19 brick of top ramen, but I say I'm a man who has his priorities in correct order.
Haven't had a sandwich here yet... I'm not going to do that to my boy Chris down the street.
If you spot Pliny the Elder here, give me a shout.Listed in: Ocean Beach's finest (and not…

Quick story about the Olive Tree Marketplace...
I'm on vaca in San Diego and while I'm here I want to make sure that I sample as many of the local brews as possible. Being unable to find a certain beer that I was looking for I post on my favorite beer website looking for some help. Mike the beer guru from the Olive Tree Marketplace sends me a private message to let me know that his store will be recieving a case of the beer I was looking for the next day. I swing by there today, there is the beer I was looking for. Mike and I chat about beer and I buy two more bottles of local stuff that I would never find back home.
Bottom line, where would you find service like this? If they were this helpful just so that I would buy a single bottle of beer I can only imagine how attentive they would be otherwise. I would frequent this place more often except for the fact that I live 2400 miles away:-(
Thanks Mike! -

So I finally made it in here the other week. That sign that proclaims that they sell Julian apple pies have been enticing me to go in and my friend Eric that lives in OB raves about the sandwiches here.
Pretty good selection of beer and wine. I didnt expect that. It really is a cool neighborhood mini market. Good luck with parking though because its on the main drag.
Very good selection of sandwiches, salads and produce. It kinda reminds me of a Henry's but more mom and pop.
Wow, this is probably the most blah and generic review that Ive written in a while. F me. I need some stimuli. I need inspiration. Its like writers block. Not that Im a novelist or anything like that. Its just Yelp.

I hadn't been here for years but my H. and I went to OB to get something out of a storage area and wanted to treat ourselves to late lunch first. The beach was packed on this gorgeous sunny Sunday, even in the late afternoon, so we couldn't find parking near the OB Pier cafe, Tower 2 cafe, Shades, OB Smoothies or other places I was considering. We were about to head over to the Voltaire St area when I remembered Olive Tree so we went around the block and back to it. Bless them for having their own parking lot with about half the spaces still available so we parked and went in and ended up with two huge, quality sandwiches. Mine was so big I brought half home for dinner or lunch tomorrow.
I got chicken salad and it was better than homemade--wonderful flavor and light on the mayonnaise, though I wish it had had some red onion or pepperoncini to spice it up just a bit. The whole wheat bread was so fresh it was falling apart from the weight of the ingredients. H. got his usual, Turkey Club and it was so tall I don't know how he got his mouth around it. We both agreed we had made a good choice and were very happy when we left.
I was impressed with how clean and airy the place was, the non-stop traffic going there, the nice vegetable and cheeses offered, and the beautiful looking meat in their small meat counter(fresh, not deli). We had no problem with the service. They helped us as soon as we stepped up to the deli counter and the food was ready in a reasonable amount of time. They have minimum seating outside along a bench where you can watch passers by and enjoy the weather. -

What the hell is wrong with San Diego delis and their bread selection. Bread is one of the most important elements of the sandwich as any good baguette-eating Frenchmen(which I am not) or San Franciscan(which I am) will tell you. It seems that 98 percent of the delis in San Diego serve their sandwiches on store bread, and it is horrible. Olive Tree Deli outshines the competition with an excellent all around sandwich.
The deli takes up a decent section of the humble sized market, and they have a fine selection of wines, fresh chips and salsa, Boar's Head meats(I am whatever on Boar's Head but a lot seem to love it), and an alright cheese selection. The prices are obviously a bit more than one would expect to pay in a supermarket, but they are a market geared towards convenience and quality, and that comes with a price tag, especially in such a prime OB location.
The sandwiches are the reason why I make the trek down to OB. They use fresh bread from the Salunto Bakery, and I highly recommend getting your sandwich served on a crunchy Salunto roll. The bread is fresh and made right. They use good meats and the ingredients are fresh and piled high.
There is a nice patio outside where you can eat your sandwich and sip your root beer (I don't think you can consume real beer on the premises). The prices are pretty much on par with other market delis, and for what you get it is more than fair. John Montague the 4th Earl of Sandwich would be proud, although he would probably be more impressed by the computer and horseless carriage!
I'd like to see more San Diegans stand up and demand that the delis and sandwich shops hold themselves to a higher bread standard! Until that moment happens, I will continue to make the journey into OB to get a decent sandwich... it should be a lot easier than that. -

This is an awesome place to get sandwich's. Whenever I am in Ocean Beach and in need for some food I always find myself ending up here. It has a good beer selection for those who love the random unique brews you can't find at any normal liquor store. Defiantly ask for light lettuce though, they pile that stuff on to the point where it is half lettuce.

A new contender enters the ring! Yeah, I know I'm a little behind the times just getting my first Olive Tree sandwich now... but hey, I've been addicted to Chris's all this time.
I'd still rank Chris's sandwiches a tiny notch above these - Chris has slightly better breads, crispier bacon, and a greater selection of specialty sandwiches - but Olive Tree is no joke. Fat and delicious, with some very tasty hot sandwiches that you can't find down the street. And a very nice grocery store to boot. You will not be disappointed!Listed in: Sandwich Thirty!

Olive Tree is a small, but versitale marketplace that also has an amazingly good deli. They have a nice selection of cheeses, some produce, regular groceries, condiments and the like (salad dressings, olive oils and marinated artichokes to name a few), ice cream, wine, beer, etc.
Their wine selection is nice, and I particularly like the fact that they have half bottles of wine. Next time I will be sure to pick up the half bottle of flushed pink Moscato and they even had a half bottle of Korbel champagne! They also have an excellent beer selection. Today we took home a six-pack of Rogue, a peach lambic and a bottle or two of Dogfish. Their prices are a bit more expensive, and I would probably do most of my alcohol shopping at Trader Joe's opposed to here but they are a nice alternate option.
Their sandwiches are yummy! Today we took home the Club (turkey, ham, bacon, tomato, lettuce, mayo and mustard on 3 pieces of toasted wheat) and the Manhattan (Pastrami, cheese, tomato, lettuce, mustard on an onion roll). Both were very good and definitely filling. I think next time I will even get their Half Sandwiches which are also an option for about $4 and change. I only got through half of my club! I also love the salads they have. We chose the Artichoke Salad and the Penne with feta and olives. Both yummy and a small is under $2. The girl that made our sandwiches was also friendly and asked us if we wanted to try a sample of anything.
I would definitely return for their deli alone and to pick up certain things.
