For chain Italian food, you can't go wrong. For the price, you get a loaf of freshly baked bread with butter and garlic butter, an appetizer salad or soup, an entree, and ice cream for dessert.
When I feel like something predictable and close by, I come here. I like it. I know it is not "real" Italian, but it always meets my expectations, and I always leave full. Whenever I go, I have a salad with homemade blue cheese dressing, and I order the "Manager's Favourite", which is a choice between two sauces options from a selected few. I get the clam sauce and mizithra cheese, which is a salty cheese in a butter sauce. For dessert, I have the spumone ice cream, which is from Mario's Gellato. I am especially pleased when I'm lucky enough to get a scoop with majority pistachio flavour. Yummy!
Overall, I haven't had many problems with the food the multiple times I've patronized the place. There have been a few run-ins with service, but they were taken care of promptly with complimentary gift certificates for our next visit. I still like going here now and then. The food is pretty tasty, but parking is getting a bit trickier with all the construction in New West. -

One of the best places for a 3 course meal under 20 dollars. The Old Spaghetti Factory franchise is amazing. It is a tradition for me and my friends annually visit the one in Whistler.
The one that is located in New West is very small in size than I thought. It is not what I thought in service though. It really needs a lot of work. I think their service is just passable. The waitress that was serving us is kinda mean. But from time to time she will just ignore us. We were a regular size of 4 too... I don't know what was wrong though. It didn't seem busy either....
We had a great time though, bad service doesn't ever ruin our mood though. For sure the food was amazing and the price is decent. I will say it is not bad for the price you are paying for it.Listed in: Yelp's 30 DAYS of AWESOMENESS

Wow I can't believe I haven't reviewed this yet!
Went today as family, hubby, 3 kids, and I.
Service was super fast and the food was great.
Kids all got nuggets and fries, they REALLY love the chicken nuggets here. They are breaded chicken breast not some nasty manufactured "chicken" product.
We always get way more food than we can eat with starting with soup/salad and then the sourdough bread and the actual pasta. Kids eat teh ice cream but dairy doesn't work for me. (wish they had some dairy free options)
I got a marinara which tasted so good, better than I remember it.
My husband got the pesto, you could taste and see all the fresh basil in it. It was very good as well.
Our waiter was right on the ball, getting the kids eating quick, and we left happy.
See you again next time? For sure! -

I LOVE PASTA. I was SSOOOO happy to find out we were going to this place for a sports club dinner :D
We had about 17 people in total, we had reservations but were late lol I believe there are two parts, apetizer then main course. So there is soup or salad then your choice of pasta :D I don't even remember what I got but I liked everything. I ordered their hot wings as well, not the best...but my love for pasta prevailed thus, everything pasta tastes like heaven on my tongue, including their apparently mediocre pasta :) I had a great time, service was alright, if not good and pasta was ammaaazing :):):D:D -

It is what it is
Old Spaghetti Factory is decent pasta, reasonable prices, and a tradition in the lower mainland. Nothing outstanding, and nothing to be ashamed of. Good food, good service, and spumoni ice cream (sorry Christine, I like Spumoni) to finish the meal. How could I not give it an A-OK? -
Review from Christina P.
Their butter (that comes with bread) tastes like oil, their soup is mediocre but their pasta is ... I have to say that it was the first time in my entire life that I left more than 1/2 of the pasta - while forcing down the less than 1/2 of the pasta simply because I was starving
Seriously, if this place were the only food place available on earth, I think nobody would have weight problems - they do a very good job killing your appetite
I got the seafood fettucini - I felt like I was chewing on boiled rubber the whole time. I couldn't taste the sauce, the pasta itself was weird tasting. It was as if somebody were deliberately trying to soil the entire Italian food industry in Vancouver.
Their location is good - right by the New West station, etc. but no wonder why the entire place is almost empty even around peak lunch time
I can't believe I let myself go in there, after being burnt by that place last time few years ago - I can't believe I was naive enough to believe that they could have actually changed
Avoid at all costs -

I eat here a lot. The food is middle of the road - nothing special. But you are pretty much guaranteed to get something you'll like. And of course unlimited bread and garlic butter plus free ice cream for dessert (If you've never tried spumoni, you gotta!) doesn't hurt. Price is fairly reasonable. Try the lasagna (veggie and meaty) it's great!

Being generous with 2 stars. Food just didn't taste good! I had the gluten free pasta with a mushroom sauce and the pasta was rather hard, sauce didn't have much flavour.

Pasta, how could one resist going back for some more?
Same restaurant, different branch. Hopefully the quality of food is consistent. The quality of service? I pray that this would be completely inconsistent from what I experienced from the Gastown one.
My prayers were answered!
It was pouring rain outside (that is an understatement) and walking in dripping wet, my party and I were immediately welcomed with a big warm smile from the manager, who was all ready to seat us with menus in his hands. There were actually quite a few other parties in the restaurant as well, so I wouldn't say the manager was extremely free.
Servers were extremely helpful. I liked how technically each server have their own area of responsibility, but when my server was busy with his other tables, an employee who was just setting tables noticed that I was trying to ask for the bill, made eye-contact with me, asked me politely if I was looking for my server, and told me she would go get him for me.
Very good service, especially when compared to the one in Gastown! I'd suggest anyone to come to this one if they were planning to go the Old Spaghetti Factory. -

The food was pretty good -- OSFs tend to be pretty predictable no matter which one you go to.
The waiter spilled coffee on my brother-in-law, and you could tell he felt really awful about doing it. What ruined the night was the manager, who tried to laugh it off by making jokes and diverting blame. To make matters worse, he didn't offer to give the meal for free, but instead provided a coupon for $10 off my brother's next visit. Wow, thanks. -

I've been to 4 of their locations (not impressed by any of them) but the New West one has to be the worst. I can't remember what I had but it was terrible. My gf had just normal spaghetti and I swear the sauce was just straight out of the can, plain no seasoning tomato sauce, watery to boot. Sure it's a 'deal' because you get soup or salad and ice cream as part of it, but to have 'spaghetti FACTORY' in the name is fraud. Heck even the noodles themselves are crap.
Best part was as I was leaving the manager asked me how was our meals. I said 'absolutely terrible, I would never come here again'. His response: "What do you expect man, this is the old spaghetti factory".Listed in: 1 Star 'Gems'

I find it hard to be too critical of the Spaghetti Factory because it is what it is. It's been what it is for over 30 years, and it ain't changing. That is: pasta with either a red sauce or a white sauce, salad on the side (salad=lettuce with the legal minimum amount of salad dressing required to call it a salad), and that spumoni ice cream that no one in their right mind could possibly like. But it comes as a meal deal, so you eat it.
It's a pretty cheap for a meal in a proper restaurant, and I like the fresh loaves of sourdough bread they serve with a choice of butters. The atmosphere in the place is pleasant, if you like stained glass and antiques and big comfy wooden booths. The New West and Gastown locations both have restored tram cars in them that you can sit in and eat, too. The New West location doesn't look all that big from the outside, so I was actually amazed to see it in there.
They should call it the Spaghetti Vortex - of time and space.Listed in: Bright Lights, Royal City

Christine R.'s review said it all. I agree 100% (except I actually like the spumoni)
Food is what it is. But for us, it was a place with a TV, where we watched the hockey game where Canada and the U.S. were playing for the 2010 Winter Olympics gold medal just a few Skytrain stops away.
Our waiter, Ryan, was terrific. He took care of our orders, and didn't rush us when we finished eating in the 2nd period (and the game went into overtime). He didn't even hold it against us that we were cheering for the Americans. :) -
Review from David L.
The Old Spaghetti Factory is a decent place for spaghetti. Meals usually come with soup and bread and I usually order spaghetti at this place. Prices are reasonable but the tomato sauce for the spaghetti is quite watered down, so you get what you pay for. This is a nice place to take people who aren't familiar with Italian cuisine. A good place to take the kids for Italian food.
