Review from Mark H.
Visiting family on the sunshine coast I decided to take my mom for lunch at this place. I've been here once before a few years ago, but they just moved to a new location (just re-opened yesterday) across the street that's more spacious and aesthetically appealing.
Being a small town, we knew one the server that had our table so slight bias there on the service, but she was very pleasant and attentive with all her tables. They redid their menu to a much simpler, easy to read format. For lunch, everything is very reasonable at roughly $9 to $15 with typical Italian stuff like pizza, pasta, soup, salads, and baked sandwiches. We both had the baked veggie sandwiches that had three types of cheeses and came with a side salad.
Portion wise, I got stuffed and taste wise it's decent. I'll have to come back to test out their dinner menu as well as their pasta. I highly suggest, for those who haven't yet, to take a day trip to the sunshine coast. In my opinion it's much better than Vancouver island and you only have to pay one-way for the ferry! -

Back in the day, my husband and I loved the pasta at this Sechelt hang out. Its the best place to eat in the area. Now that I'm gluten free, I was thinking of calling and asking if they could prepare my favourite sauce if I brought in my own pasta. No need. The Old Boot now carries gluten free pasta!!! So excited about that. I ordered my usual, the tomato meat sauce, which comes with a meatball and sausage. Their huge and delicious meatballs have gluten (most likely in breadcrumbs), so I asked for 2 sausages this time around. I was not disappointed. I had the same amazing taste with their to die for sausages, on top of a rice spaghetti. I couldn't have been happier. So worth a trip to the Sunshine Coast! Close to the wharf in downtown Sechelt.

My girlfriend and I went here looking for a nice dinner while on a trip to the sunshine coast. We were encouraged to go here over the other restaurants in Sechelt due to its ranking as #1 (of 37) on http://Tripadvisor.com, with many popular reviews, including one that said The Old Boot Eatery had "Some of the very best pasta I've ever had".
Sadly, after all the hype we were pretty disappointed. The fresh baked bread was standard grocery store level white foccacia that really wasn't exciting even with some olive oil and balsamic vinegar.
My meatball and sausage rotini arrived without the meatball and sausage, so my girlfriend had the pleasure of me watching her eat for the first 5-10 minutes. The tomato meat sauce that came with my pasta was surprisingly lacking in flavour, and I was hard-pressed to find a hint of good tomatoes, basil, thyme, garlic, etc. Similarly, my date's overly-sauced pesto cream pasta was more a collection of textures than flavours. To further my disappointed was the sawdusty powdered Parmesan cheese on the table that added nothing in the way of flavour. Italian food is supposed to be about top quality, flavourful ingredients prepared simply; if you can't even provide freshly grated Parmesan, yikes.
After experiencing some great Italian food both in Italy and in Canada, I think this place is around the same level as Olive Garden or East Side Mario's. I wouldn't recommend it for someone looking for really great Italian, but I would recommend it for people with kids or just looking to fill their stomachs.
