This was my usual Thursday night wing and beer hang out in University (a decade ago), and I recently went back when a bunch of old pals from school got together. I'm happy to say the place hasn't changed, maybe a little brighter and possible a fresh(ish) coast of paint... and they moved the shuffle board table.
Wings are the same as I remember, cheap and greasy. Sauce on.
Beer is cheap as well during their wing power hours, my eating capacity for these delicious morsels has drastically reduced as has by ability to consume beer by the pitcher... oh age... so cruel.
The place was pretty busy and the service was a bit spotty, the servers where paying attention to the young jocks in the other table... but can I blame them? I used to be sitting in that table 10 years ago :) and I loved (still do) the attention. I felt a little out of place being over (well over) 30 -sigh-
Thanks for the memories Oasis! I'll be back next time I'm feel nostalgic. -

The Oasis is like a holdout from the older days of bars, a little dingy and nothing to brag about, but it does the trick with cheap food, drink and entertainment. Twenty to thirty cent chicken wings? Check. Ten dollar pitchers of Bud (*shudder*)? Check. Karaoke where the good, the bad and the ugly put on a free show. Check, check and check.
A perennial nominee for 'Best Wings' in The Coast's Best of Food, the Oasis' Thursday wing night is as much of a fixture in this city as the bar itself. Alas, the wings themselves aren't much to write home about. I find they often have an odd texture that makes me think that they have a freezer full of frozen wings. Not to mention that the Oasis is chronically understaffed on Thursdays and it is painfully difficult to order wings or drinks. They maintain the odd and inefficient separation between who you order your drinks from and who you get food from. Should you visit on a busy night, I suggest that you cut one of them out and just go to the bar for your libations. For food, make sure you order as much as you'll want for the night the first time around, as it could be a while before you'll get another chance. Oh, and have cash on hand because you have to pay for your wings when they arrive. I'm afraid the Oasis makes it onto the Best of Food solely because of its popularity, not because of actual quality. The actual menu itself is not something I've deigned to try, but it has to be one of the most inexpensive bar menus in the city as only the appetizer sampler costs more than $10.
The Thursday karaoke is what redeems an otherwise sketchy place. Not that the karaoke itself isn't sketchy, but it's enjoyable. You'll laugh with your friends at the poor singing, be all the more impressed at good singing because of all the bad, and perhaps even see a drunk old man cradling his beer in his arms and dancing with it in front of the stage.
You may not want to make drinking in a basement a regular activity (and if you do, I suggest you do it at yours or a friend's basement as it's probably better finished than the Oasis), but it's nice to come here now and then for an entertaining night that's easy on the pocket.
*As a footnote, it bugs me that the Oasis calls itself 'Halifax's #1 sports bar'. That might have been true before Bubba Ray's opened, simply because there weren't any other options downtown, but that is no longer true. Bubba Ray's has more TV's and viewing options, is cleaner and newer, servers that bring both food and drink, has better wings and benefits from the wonders of natural light. I'm seriously pondering filing a complaint with the proper government agency which covers false advertising claims. /endrant -

i had a very bad experience at Oasis, the only redeeming quality was that the poor server did her best to make the situation ok.
I tried to order 3 different things off the menu but they were no longer available - NOTE* if you dont offer it anymore remove it from the Menu or at least make a not of it.
When i finally did find something to order (Scallops and Fries) they arrived with cold fries and rancid Scallops.
My friend ordered Poutine and Voodoo Chicken. Poutine was just ok (again it had the cold fries) but the Voodoo Chicken was dry and hard.
They were obliging enough to not charge us for or food and did offer to make something else but we were on a short time line.
In a sea side city you would hope that everyone would take advantage of the local products and make something fresh.
Thank you for reading. -

Dinner and a show has never been cheaper than it is at The Oasis!
Much like stumbling across a real oasis in the midst of a dessert as you're desperate for water (this happens to me ALL the time), hanging out at this Oasis tucked underground on Spring Garden guarantees many moments where you won't be able to believe your eyes.
On Thursdays, saddle up to the community hall like tables near the karaoke stage, order up some dirty pub wings (said with love) and watch the magic unfold. Whether you're looking for a frat boy performance of the Bloodhound Gang's Bad Touch, or you hold out hope for the occasional performance from one of their career karaoke stars (there's this one lady who can belt out a Whitney ballad in ways that will have you weeping into your beer), you'll see it all. Over and over again, in fact.
The food is exactly what you'd expect, but if you're at the Oasis in the first place, you'll have a good sense of what you're in for. The service? Well, there IS service. That's about all I can really say about it. I don't remember much more than that - the food came and the dishes left, the drinks came and the glasses left...I guess that's all you really need here, huh?Listed in: Spring Garden State, Pub Crawl, Sports Bars

Got friends in low places?
Conveniently, you really do "head on down" to the Oasis, down into the basement that is.
This place resembles a legion bar, which is kind of ok.
It's a sports bar, that also happens to have karaoke on Thursdays. I stopped in to have a quick beer for a friend's birthday and was serenaded by colourful renditions of "Du Hast" by Rammenstein, Afro Man's "Because I got high" (a wonderful late 90s/early 2000s classic...) and a very eclectic assortment of other songs.
The food (wings in this case) looked.... sketchy. So I'm not sure I would be down with eating there unless I had some beer into me. And the whole place was strangely bright, though as my friend pointed out, most of the lighbulbs were burnt out...
However, $10 got me 2 bottles of beer and allowed for a generous tip.
Oh and also? They totally have a SHUFFLE BOARD TABLE! -

The Karaoke Superstar Challenge: Thursday Edition
To be frank, I do not have much to say about The Oasis. You know that point in your life where you try on different personalities because you're in university and your group of friends are rapidly changing? For example, if you're hanging out with some jocks and their girlfriends who think wearing sweatpants with your school initials on the ass is fashion, and they mention going for wings and pitchers, and all you really want to do is stay in and watch "Funny Girl" but you go anyway because what the hell its university life? Just off the top of my head...
Thinking back on it, I think The Oasis is the perfect location after belting your heart out at Cheers and Bearly's/Menz on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday. Here comes Thursday, all casual and on the cusp of the weekend. I don't want to perform. I want to relax and maybe sing something by Trooper. Or Loverboy. Thank you, The Oasis! Your proximity to McDonald's is impeccable and the variety of games to play, if you happen to be a friend of a karaoke whore who is not especially keen to sing in public, is superb.
I've only been to The Oasis three times in my life but once you put the giant chicken out of mind and accept that you're walking into a pit of testosterone - it makes for a pretty decent night.Listed in: The Karaoke Superstar…

Oasis gets even more points these days! They've done away with the trashy little uniforms that they used to make/encourage the servers to wear for one thing. Doesn't exactly feel overly female friendly when you're being served by someone who looks as though they may or may not expect their tip in the form of a twenty tucked into their thong. I realize that male patrons may have differing feelings on this matter. :)
The menu and food seems to have undergone a bit of an overhaul as well with improvements to the staples and some yummy new additions as well. Delicious pub grub, good beer and generally an awesome place to catch some playoff hockey.1 Previous Review: Show all »

Review from Lacey H.
The Oasis: it was better when you could smoke there. Not that I smoke anymore, but some places reside on the dingy side of the fence requiring a redeeming factor, and said factor for the Oasis is smoking. Now that you can't smoke, you can actually see from one end of the bar to the other. It's so big and grimy, and here I thought it was an intimate below ground setting, with a mysterious hazy ambiance.
Okay, but really, this place is massive. It's kind of like a cafeteria that serves beer and rocks out the children's karaoke, you know, for the university toddlers. I'm being snippy in this review. I must curb this attitude, because it's really just me digressing from an earlier encounter with irritating people... breathe... and better.
The Oasis: a dingy bar. It is what it is. I would never choose to specially go there, but have ended up here on a number of occasions. It's fine. They serve booze. Everyone wins. Somebody pass me my cigarettes... -

Fun. Just don't touch anything!
Oasis Pub & Eatery is one of those Sports Bars that is filled with University types, waitresses in skimpy outfits and dirty men. So I'm obviously not a big, big fan (except for the Waitress part), but it is "the" place to go if there is a boxing or UFC match on Pay Per View. I am definitely giving it three stars because I know there is a crowd for this place. I'm just not, nor do I want to be, part of that crowd. Just across the street is a better looking, cleaner and more fun sports bar.
But the Oasis's charm is...ok I'm not sure what it is. This bar is in the basement of a building and it sports some gambling machines, pool tables and a few other strange, but fun games. They have an average beer selection and their bathrooms aren't the worst I've seen. They also do have Karaoke, but I like the Karaoke crowds at other Pub's. This one just doesn't attract the type of crowd that can appreciate anything decen unless it is 80's rock or something they can laugh at from the 90's.
What definitely gives this place a third star is its staff. I can't imagine working at a place that caters to the sports fans of boxing and UFC, so i know the wait staff have their work cut out for them. But they do a really, really great job! The food is also pretty good! And I am surprised but it is very decent, especially for its price.
Oasis is an option if you are going downtown and want a sports bar. If you are ok with the University crowd and the old men, a bit of a dirtier look and lots of boxing and UFC, then this is your place. There are other options but people tend to like whatever charm Oasis has. I haven't found it yet to be honest but I will recognize that others do appreciate it. And the Wait Staff are incredible! -

My first experience of Oasis wasn't of the place itself, but what was hanging around the door attracting customers... a giant chicken! I laughed so hard when I saw this large yellow bird advertising the whereabouts of Oasis I almost couldn't contain myself. Yes, it sure was a laugh and a half.
The place itself is pretty low-key. The entrance makes it seem like a tiny whole in the wall, but inside is quite surprising. With a somewhat retro feel to it (bright colours and out-of-the-ordinary seating) this place has a nice, wholesome feel to it. It's not as dingy as I would expect judging by the outside. I guess that's why you don't judge a book by the cover.
The favourite night seems to be Thursday for karaoke and wings. This is a good time, but not my favourite night. I just prefer to have one or two drinks here and then head out. It's not really a place that I see myself spending hours upon end, but it's great for a couple of drinks.
My favourite thing about Oasis has got to be that giant chicken on the outside! It's absolutely hilarious! -
Review from Laura P.
Take a few steps down into the depths of Oasis' dungeon of an existence. Its your typical deep, dark dive bar, without the tones of endearment. And while this spot serves as a cheap and easy time, you've got to ask yourself: Is it really worth it?
They've got pool tables, shuffle board and a few other activity options available, which may be enough to sway some. But not I. My one Oasis experience just did not give me the need to go back.
The place was unkept, dingy and its darkness did not a call to ambiance. I found the venue extremely chilly, as well, I recall being served my gin and tonic in a plastic glass. Boo. There just wasn't enough for me to grasp onto.
I'm unsure what they "eatery" portion of this spot entails, but I won't be back to find out. This spot left a film on me that I cannot undo... I can appreciate a good dive bar when I see one, but this, is not one of them. -

The Oasis reminds me of a high school cafeteria. The orange hard plastic seats, the collapsible tables, the really awful sports scenes painted on the walls. If the lighting was little higher I'd swear I was seventeen again.
I really enjoy the Oasis on Karaoke nights and have been known to sing Panama by Van Halen when the mood strikes me. I don't really head here for the food, but I'll occasionally end up here for wings if Bubba Ray's is over crowded, which it often is.
The wings here aren't as good as Bubba Ray's, but they're nowhere near as bad as some of the other spots around town. One complaint, the giant chicken they parade around on the side walk promoting their chicken wings. So. Incredibly. Annoying. Common sense rule number one: No animal is going to actively promote the consumption of his own species! Get a giant cow out there promoting the chicken wings! Now THAT is funny!
Beyond the chicken wings and karaoke, Oasis also has a few big screens for various sporting events, so if you're looking for a spot to watch the big game/big fight/big something or other, this is definitely an option, and a fine one at that.
Definitely stop down to the Oasis some Thursday night for Karaoke and wings, hey, come over and say hey and we could sing a duet! Paradise by the Dashboard Light (Or an even more obscure Meat Loaf hit, Dead Ringer For Love!!!)

If it's a Thursday night and you're looking for something to do than grab some friends and on head down to the Oasis. The karaoke/ sports bar is a huge hit amongst University students. But what's not to be desired about cheap draught, wings and karaoke? You're guaranteed to have a fun time - especially if you break up the courage and decide to do a number onstage.
So, what are you waiting for? In the words of Garth Brooks, "slip on down to the Oasis!" -

Walking down spring garden road with my son we stumbled across Oasis and he asked me to go in and shoot a game of pool. So off we go down the stairs which seems never to end down down we go to what seemed like a basement which is actual was. I am telling you one thing I would not like to do that once I had a few wobbly tops in me. To me this is not my kind of location that I would hang out in on a weekend. Even though some might there is open mike night where they actually get up and sing up a storm, that would be interesting.
Poker machines are pretty much at all bar locations but these ones gives a new meaning to OK I think I am going to leave now.
This was the fastest beer and pool game that I think I ever had.
Cheers
