Off to lunch with a friend looking for fresh, healthy and tasty. Off to Nuba Café land.

Off to try something different than a wrapped food item.

I spy lamb stew on the menu. "Is it quite lamby?" I ask. The guy behind the counter laughs and says "no, it's quite good actually." lol

I was sold. I took the plate. Oh my god. I love this place even more than before.
Hearty, zesty, tasty, healthful, savory, all come to mind when I think about  my lunch.

The Nuba Café staff guy came by and asked how my stew was, and he laughed and I said "not lamby and quite good actually."

My companion and I had a great time at Nuba Café.

Perhaps my expectations were too high from the rave Yelp reviews.

My lamb kafta was decent, but it wasn't I'll-be-back-for-more fantastic. I don't get how tabouleh is different for a regular salad with a few chick peas, too many olives and a light lemon(?) dressing. It didn't come together as a salad, it tasted like vegetables put on a plate drizzled with olive oil.

I really  just didn't taste the quality and freshness touted. And I was here with my Lebanese mate who didn't seem to care for the food either.

As others have mentioned most items are very healthy and fresh.  Their daily soup is always vegan.  Today is was Cauliflower Butternut Squash, it was quite good.  We also tried the chicken tawouk plate (two 4 inch chicken skewers) as Meana K. mentioned it was dry and lacked flavour.  They have changed the sides with the plates, instead of tabouleh they now serve olives, you can add tabouleh for $1.  Seemed like a bit of a low blow to us - they are making a lot of money off their plates as it is, there is a lot of filler (ie: bagged lettuce).
They also offer delicious fresh, high priced juices.  The food is very good, not excellent.  It seems to be a common theme in our society that we pay more for healthy food, Nuba is no different.  The food was probably 3.5 stars, but the high prices reduced the rating to a solid 3.  That being said, we'll probably go back and try some different items.
The cafe itself is order and pay at the counter, then help yourself to water and cutlery and find a table.  It's not in great shape, no ambiance but it's fine and appears to be relatively clean.

I'm really not a fan of this place. I'm not sure, it's missing something. I think my expectations were a bit high because I read reviews before I went. The first time, I got some lamb special and it was great! It' was under $10- SCORE!!! I got take out, it was quick and I didn't have to wait long.
The second time, I got some chicken that had some sauce that tasted like dirt... so I threw it away after two bites. I realized that my meat was bad after an intense tummy ache!!! So I'm not going here again, although it was good the first time. Maybe I'll give it a third chance after I get over the bad chicken.

We arrived here close to closing time, but the waitress cheerfully informed us we were welcome to sit and eat until about 9:15 (closing time is 9p). The food was moderately priced. I had the felafel plate which was good, but pretty uninspired. The food was fresh and well prepared, but given their self proclaimed image of excellence, I expected better. This place is still a decent stopover if you are in the neighborhood, but the relatively early closing time means you have to make it an early pre-drink spot or just choose somewhere else to get something in your belly before booze time.

Tiny little place and very casual. I met a friend for lunch on a cold wintery day. It was chilly outside and in. I had a chicken wrap special for about $10 which was very filling and tasty. Honestly I'd rather go to Nuba on West Hastings as the atmosphere is much cozier and the staff are more attentive.

The last few times I've been into this Nuba location, I've been impressed with how friendly and helpful their staff is. The food is great- it's a go to for me when I need something quick and healthy. But what has prompted me to write this review is really the customer service. When I went into Nuba yesterday, I was totally blown away by the level of service. I won't get into too much detail, as its a bit of a long story, but all you need to know is that the current front of house staff at Nuba are stellar- a rare find in any restaurant. It's a great neighborhood spot!

Maybe I'm just not drinking the koolaid, but I think Nuba is just okay. I mean, it's pretty good, but it's really not that great. Like any place, it has its flaws and it has its upsides. I like it alright. But I don't love it.

The thing is, I do enjoy that it provides healthy choices. I don't feel overly stuffed after I've eaten here. I'm always satisfied. The service is fast and friendly. Prices are fine.

What I don't love is that the chicken tawook comes a bit dry instead of juicy. How do you dry out chicken thighs? The falafel comes out a bit too hard. Since when are falafel anything but soft and mushy? The hummus... is okay. I am biased because I make hummus regularly and I like a lot more flavor in mine. Not to say their hummus isn't good. If it wasn't, I wouldn't eat here. It's just.... as my three star rating says, A-OK.

    I absolutely love Nuba.

Depending on my mood I have to standbys that I always turn to.

If I'm in the mood for meat, I will get the lamb kafta plate. Usually more food than I need it's a lovely selection of lamb, potatoes, salad, humus etc. So good.

If I'm feeling vegetarian I get the Najib's special. Deep fried cauliflower. So good.

I pretty much love everything they have and the sharing plates are perfect if you're looking to try a whole sample of what they have.

    Yum yum!

Experts say a perfect afternoon snack combines protein with a carb - like apples with peanut butter or avocado on toast. Well everyone is different, and I've found the pinnacle of snackage for me: lightly seared cauliflower drizzled with lemon, served with a side of tahini sauce, along with pita and hummus. I might bring a propane stove to my office, so I can make it fresh around 3 p.m. I'll need a small mortar and pestle, too, to grind my chickpeas on the spot.

I didn't think of this snack combination myself. The guy at Nuba did.

This seems to me to be the most consistent location in terms of food quality - I've had both amazing and not-so-great meals at the locations on Hastings/Cambie and Hastings/Waldorf. That said, I've only ever eaten lunch and this location and dinner at the others.

While Nuba offers a good selection of free-range, non-medicated meats, I always always always opt for the vegan fare - I'm a huge fan of vegan food done right, and when I find a place that hits the mark, there's really nothing better.

My favourites are the mjadra - green lentils with a hint of jalapeno, carmelized onions and avocado and the Najib's special - cauliflower (roasted, I think?) with lemon and sea salt. I usually get one of these as a mezze and add a side of one of their soups; the red lentil is served every day and is pretty good, but I usually only get it if I'm not impressed with their daily vegan soup offering (which is rare). If they have a mushroom soup on special - order it!!

The food here isn't exactly a bargain, but it's delicious, fresh and will make you feel happy inside and out!

Ah, I love Nuba. This was actually the first of their four locations that I visited; at the time, they had only two, one of which is now closed, so technically this is the oldest Nuba in the city.

This tiny little cafe is perfect for a late lunch - I imagine it gets quite busy at regular lunch times, but I usually go between 1 and 3 in the afternoon. They offer most of Nuba Restaurant's food options. Obviously I recommend the Najib's Special, deep-fried cauliflower with lemon and salt, but I've also really enjoyed the Veggie Fraiche. It was a perfect post-yoga healthy but filling meal, especially for the price.

Try their hot sauce - it's housemade and delicious!

Najib's special is amazing, cauliflower is my new favorite vegetable because of this. The garden falafel is excellent. Haven't tried much else. Oh wait, the baklava, it's delicious, one of the best I've tried. The place is small and can get busy,  also they don't take reservations so go to their other location if you have a big party.

If you're looking for healthy, inexpensive and relatively fast food in this neighbourhood then this is definitely the place to go, but every time I go here the staff just aren't really 'there' - hence 'relatively fast'.  They talk to each other while people are mid order and will pretty much 'put you on hold' until their conversation is done, without apology or even an 'oh, sorry, I'll be with you in a second.'  Often not even noticing when a new customer is standing at the till, ready to order.

The food is good, healthy, ethnic, vegetarian and meat eater friendly, all the right everything, but it can be kind of dry.  I've had better elsewhere.  Much better hummus for sure.

The actual Nuba Restaurant near Gastown is better, though comparing the two is kind of silly since one's a sit down restaurant with a full menu and table service and the other is a quick counter service kind of place.  Great for take away or a quick healthy stop during the day.

The Nuba Cafe on Seymour is a cute little coffee-shop looking place with enough seating for about 20-25 people. The menu is presented on a huge blackboard over the service counter where you'll find three types of self-serve water: plain, cucumber and lemon.

I came here with my room mate who is an omnivore, so he was pleased to find some chicken, lamb and beef on the menu. Meanwhile I enjoyed picking and choosing over the rest of the menu which is VEGAN :)

I presented my Earthsave Member card for my discount, and the girl at the cash gave me a weird look and said "I don't know what this is, sorry" and gave me back my card. The cook (who was in the cool open-concept kitchen) was intrigued... so I showed him the Earthsave Vegetarian Directory and pointed out that all of their locations are members of this program and that I should be entitled to my 10% discount. The cook was really, really pleased to see that their business is part of such a program and gave me a high five! "Thanks for sharing this with us, it's nice to know this exists!" ... You're welcome, dude ;)

I proceeded to order the Najib's Special and my room mate got the Chicken Shish Tawook. Both our dishes were to DIE for. The flavours were bang on, and our platters were really beautiful to look at. I even paused to observe my plate before taking my first bite. I kept saying "Mmm, Ahh, MMmm... OMG as if I'm eating this awesome food right now!"

As my roomie pointed out to me, it was a good thing that we were there together and chatting between bites because he felt that if he were there alone, the amount of food on the plate wouldn't have been enough to fill him up, as he would have devoured it in like, five minutes. I think I would have to agree. On the other hand though, I respect that they gave us a "correct" amount of food, respecting portion sizes. It's better for their books and for my waistline.

One thing I disliked about my visit was that the girl behind the counter kept changing the songs on her iPod, as well as putting the volume WAY UP to the point where I had to talk way louder than necessary just to be able to continue my conversation. It would have been nice to have a playlist go for the entire time, without having a song get cut off halfway, or without having the sound go from dead quiet to blaring loud.

I can't judge this restaurant based on these two little hiccups though... so I'll rate the food: *****. Awesome, Yummy. Nutritious. GO EAT HERE!

While in the 'Couver a couple months ago, this was one of the first restaurants we stopped off (it was close to our hotel downtown and had a plethora of vegetarian options for one my fellow travelers).

This is a smallish sort of restaurant with only a few tables in the dining area.  When we were there it was run by some people way cooler and more stylish than I (hmmm....not hard for one to do, so sorry for the non-compliment).

But yeah, their menu was extensive, unique, & interesting.

A few questions were asked and answered efficiently.

I went with the falafel plate.

I quickly nabbed a small counter-height table  for three.  Here is where we dined as we soaked in our feelings of city-newness.

My problem with Nuba is that I always seem to get the same THINGS! Oh well - I just go through craving the tasty food ... and when I get in the doors no matter what else I want to get ....

Deluxe chicken falafel and a side of crispy cauli. YUM. The flavors are superb, the portions are good, the food is healthy, and the people are great. I've never waited that long for food. I just have to get off my obsessive train of recent and eat other stuff :P.

The space is inviting and it's nice to be able to just run in and order at the counter or have table service and take it easy.

Fantastic foolproof falafels! One of the best I've had ever. Must note that I've had a fair share of falafels here and there. This cozy Lebanese spot was already teethering on 2 stars due to the long wait on our food, despite coming in at an odd hour with only one table ahead of us. But as I snuck a peek at their open kitchen, some potatoes were being roasted on the spot, falafel and lamb fried fresh to order too. My heart jumped a beat, yea, that's my food right there! Okay, forgiven.

Oh but wait, the food arrives, and everything from the lamb, salad, hummus, tabouleh was nice and delicious! I requested the hot sauce on the side, and it was a delight to the taste buds. Not only does everything look fresh, it tasted fresh, full flavoured, and delicious. Well done!

Kudos to the staff for the friendly service, and cognizantly refilling the pitcher of water right by the counter. I will come back, again and again, well worth the wait!

There's something magical about Nuba, or maybe they just know how to use a perfect amount of saffron in their food.  I look forward to getting off the bus as I arrive downtown, usually very hungry.  i walk into the Cafe to find a slough of awesome vegetarian (and non-vegetarian) dishes to choose from - many of which you can't get at the lower-quality Donair/Falafel shops down Granville.

I'm particularly fond of Najib's special and the Veggie Hushwi.

The only problem with this place is that one sandwich of theirs rarely fills me up until dinner.

Craving for some hummus and crispy cauliflower, we decided to do some Nuba takeout. I called in, and the order was to be ready in 15 minutes. Sweet.

l got an order of tabouleh, and crispy cauliflower, as well as a lamb kafta plate-grilled grain-fed halal lamb patty, seasoned with onions, parsley, & spices, and he got a lamb kibbeh, which is also the lamb patty, vegetables, pinenuts, burghul & aromatic spices. All their plates are served with taboulleh, hummus, salad, hot sauce, pita &
choice of organic brown rice or roasted potatoes.

I arrived 20 minutes later and the food was all ready. I like it when places give you an accurate ETA.

The food was nice and hot, and the 'plates' came in a nice large box, with all the Nuba goodness. Delicious hummus, and the lamb patties were very tasty. It was the perfect way to end my week. My only complaint is that there were only 6 pieces of the crispy cauliflower. I wanted more!!

Nuba serves up the best tzatziki and tabbouleh I've ever had in my life. It's obvious that they are using proper labneh and not just straining organic yogurt like I am. The baba ganoush and falafel were well above par as well.

We got La Feast (veggie mezze sampler for 2) which came with all of the above as well as hummus, delicious lemony cauliflower, mjadra, sauteed mushrooms, feta, olives, a tiny bit of house salad with perfectly ripe avocado, tahini, and pita. This was a good amount of food for two people at $26, four stars only because there could have been a bit more pita.

Although Nuba has been on my list to try for quite awhile (it's hard to get around to visiting places without liquor licenses, we took our meal to go), I wasn't terribly excited about checking it out today after a hot sunny afternoon of tennis. My tastebuds were certainly surprised by the exceptionally fresh ingredients making the fare at Nuba so so much more than the generic "mediterranean" food that the menu hints at. The sampler that we ordered was the perfect showcase of what Nuba has to offer and now I am excited to return for their variety of vegetarian pitas.

All I ever eat here is the chicken shishtawook plate.

Not sure I spelled that correctly, but you'll have no difficulty finding it on the menu.  I have no idea what they do to the chicken to make it taste so good.  I order the chicken shishtawook plate with brown rice, and I ask them to delete the regular salad in return for extra taboulleh (the regular salad is ho-hum, while the taboulleh is fantastic).

IMO, the ambience at the original location on Hastings (across from Cannabis HQ) beats this location hands-down.

Bummed that Fritz was closed on Monday, my handy dandy Yelp iPhone app told me that Nuba Cafe was nearby. I'd eaten at Nuba Restaurant a couple nights prior and loved it, so Nuba Cafe was a trusted choice.

A smaller menu similar to their restaurant and just as good. Their garden falafel was perfection. Probably the best falafels I've ever had.

Nuba cafe; a shining beacon of sustenance hidden away in lower Davie's "cheap sushi row."

The food is made fresh, and packed with flavour (the falafels are awesome, nom nom nom!).  Prices are reasonable, with lunch running in the $8 - $10 range depending on what you get.

*Super mega bonus!*  You have the option of ordering most dishes in pita or plate form (with plate being the larger of the two options), so you can scale the volume of food to suit your hunger at any given moment.

The dining area in the cafe is pretty small and can feel a bit cramped if there are more than five people waiting for food.  I'd recommend grabbing a pita to go and enjoying it in the park a half block away.

This place is always packed especially during lunch hour!!  As for dinner, it's a good idea to make a reservation, otherwise wait a long time for a table.

The food is very tasty and fresh.  Prices are very reasonable.  The food are great for sharing.  They have a good well priced wine list.  There are a good handful of vegetarian dishes too.  I have to say their garden falafels are one of the best in town.  I also like their roasted eggplant called baba ghanooj.

For lunch I like to order their falafel plate.

Nuba is a true authentic Lebanese restaurant.

A unique and modern approach to Middle Eastern/Lebanese food.
Good for vegetarians (my wife) bad for meat-a-tarians (me).

I ordered the lamb kebbeh for $12. Wonderfully cooked roasted potatoes, amazing tabbouleh, and above average hummus. Now for the lamb kebbeh. Ridiculously small portion (2 mini burger sized patty -maybe even smaller) and very dry and unappealing patties.

Come on Nuba...There is so much competition in this city.  I need more meat for the bling-blingage.

Dissapointed with the 10 min wait for takeout. However, I appreciate cooked-to-order food, and the music was cool enough to keep my A.D.D. at bay.

"The best falafels in Vancouver!" is how I was lured here by a friend--a friend who lives in Richmond. And I live three blocks away from this place.

Cheap (a mere $5 a pop, $7 if yours has meat), fast, clean. This place is always full during lunchtime (according to my friend since today was only my first visit) but is definitely worth the wait. The vege was fresh and the falafel-y bit very crispy yet non-greasy.

My one qualm: where's the baba ghanoush!?

Are you looking for low frills, healthy, easy Lebanese in downtown Vancouver? Then the Nuba Cafe is your place.

The interior is not fancy, there are two or three tables, a counter to order and that is about it. but the food is pretty good.

I had an appetizer of falafel and the chicken shish tawook plate with hot sauce. The plate came with hummus, pita bread, extra pita chips, taboulleh, salad and your choice of brown rice or potatoes. I went with the potatoes.

I was really impressed with the whole meal. The chicken was great and I really recommend having the hot sauce since it gives that extra kick. The hummus was good and the pita bread they gave wasn't enough for all of it but if you add in the extra pita chips it was plenty.

There are lots of little Lebanese and mediterranean places in downtown Vancouver but none of the taste and quality of the Nuba Cafe.

Nuba is a great alternative to a lot of the quick bites offered in the same area. Fresher, veggie and more hearty than the fry, pizza and donair alternatives, I often head here when I want something lighter for lunch or a snack.

I had no idea, until I read these reviews that Nuba was specifically Lebanese cuisine. It has that kind of commercial drive/hippy vibe that I associate with pita and chickpea so I never thought to link it culturally as well. I'm pretty ignorant when it comes to Lebanese food so I can't hope to compare Nuba to the 'real stuff' but overall I've had good experiences.

I know saying something is 'fresh' means next to nothing but that's what really stands out here. Fresh veggies make every dish pop and knowing that everything is prepared almost from scratch is a nice feeling as well. I like that when its slow you can chat to the chefs and the whole place has a warm atmosphere I appreciate as well.

I don't know that I have a 'favorite' dish as I've really been trying to slowly get through them all. I'd suggest instead to just go, and try it out. Because, like me, if you liked one thing on the menu the rest is pretty pleasing as well.

The Nuba Café is by no means the same thing as the main Nuba restaurant down on Hastings street, but that is not meant to be a slag towards the place at all.

The location is small and quaint, and more of a cafeteria style than your regular sit down restaurant which is just fine if you're in the mood for a quick lunch or take out dinner.

On our last visit to the café I ordered the Garden Falafel which was stuffed with greens, tomato, avocado and hummus. Priced at $7 it was more then enough food to leave me feeling full and satisfied. My girlfriend was feeling a bit more carnivorous than I was that day and had the deluxe toasted pita with chicken, feta, taboulleh and caramelized onions.

But what makes this one of our favourite quick, and healthy, lunch/dinner spots is the fact you pay up front at the till. No sitting around aftwerward waiting for the bill to arrive, no waiting for your credit card to be processed, and no awkwardly calculating the tip while the server hovers about. And of course the food is delicious!

I was excited to have some Lebanese food, but it just seemed like typical mediterranean food.. nothing to make it stand out from your average middle eastern food place.  You know -  felafel, hummus, etc.  I've had good Lebanese food before, most notably in Amman, Jordan of all places, and this didn't seem very outstanding.  My food was good, but wasn't amazing.  I might go back if I was in the neighborhood.

I also want to mention this is a small place with stools and tables - not really a real sit-down restaurant, but more of a place to get a quick bite.

Nuba is consistently one of the best lunches in Vancouver.
Hearty, flavorful, delicious, healthy, the list goes on.
You may walk by their small space and glance at the crowded tables inside and wonder why, and you may stop in another time and discover Nuba for yourself. This is a great spot for just about all types of eaters, especially those who are health-conscious; it's not easy to find affordable, thoughtful, food.
Check the lamb pita, chicken tawook, falafel, etc.
    You won't be disappointed.

    A+

The food is delicious, no doubt.
I did take out. The portion was measly. I find that annoying. When they sell you a so called meal for one person  for $15 fully knowing that its just not enough .( And I am not even a big eater) I felt conned.
The wait for the food was 20 minutes . I was absolutely alone there waiting no line, not a single other customer. And two people working there , so it was an absurd wait, I would have left if she had not made me pay as soon as I walked in. Yeah she was prompt with that. She was polite , so no worries there at all.

I would never give it another shot. From what I saw there is no way for this to get better unless there is a serious change in their thought process.

The one dish I tried here was exceptional; The Chicken Tawook. For what you pay you'll be pleasantly surprised. My only dislike (which is minor) is that the pitas and hummus seem store bought. But whatever. We'll definitely go back.
