What can I say about the Morrisey Pub except that its awesome!

Pros: Full bar, beer specials every night of the week, good service, reasonable food and the decor is nice.

Cons: It can get completely packed on the weekends if you show up late or if a playoff game is on.

Overall, a nice little pub/bar and one of the better ones that I have come across in Vancouver.

Hmm, looks like I've been lucky with the service at The Morrissey.  Both times I've been recently I've had the same server and she was lovely.  And remembered us the next time!  She was friendly, helpful, kept our drinks full when they were getting low, and didn't disappear once we placed orders.  Huzzah!

One of the few places that still has a beer/drink special each night.  It seems that so many places just say, "All our drinks are on special. That's the price."  Haaaa, so funny, especially when you charge $7 for a draft domestic beer, you expect me to believe that's a good price?  But not so at The Morrissey!  $4.75 for a pint of Honey Brown (not my favourite, but certainly not the worst) and I'm sold!

Have you tried the food?  It's actually really good.  Wednesdays you can even get a pint and a good veggie burger for $10!  I didn't think those specials existed anymore.  Try the calamari... it's seriously great.  Two dips, plus nice and crispy, perfectly cooked calamari (I hate it when it is soggy).  The crackers and cheese are great, too.  Sounds simple, but they go so well with beer.

The beer selection is pretty decent, though not a lot of micro-brews on the list.  Prices for beer when not on special are average for the area, which equals high for what you are getting.  Expect $5.75 - $6.75 for a pint, depending on what you're getting.

The dark interior, with rugs and armchairs and wooden tables is cozy and comfortable.  The layout is interesting with nooks for your group to have intimate conversations, without feeling like you are sharing your secrets with the tables beside you.

If you haven't been in a while I recommend stopping in.

We arrived around 9:45 and the playoff game was on the tv, but we decided to stick around anyway. The decor inside is really nice with a variety of table and booth seating with televisions on all sides for the game, most of which were withdrawn once it ended.
After the game, a DJ took over entertainment and that's when the pub really filled in. Music was mostly selections in the punk and postpunk categories (think  Joy Division, The Clash, early Cure). The draught beer selection is formidable with about 25 brews on tap and table service was very efficient, never leaving us with an empty glass.  I would have given this place 5 stars if there had not been a hockey game, as hockey is not very Rock n Roll and the vast majority of patrons seemed to wait for the game to be over to show up.

I came here for my birthday because this pub and I happen to have the same name. This "irish" pub doesn't have the feel of an irish pub at all.  It's more like a retro establishment complete with a huge chandelier.   I arrived at 7 pm on a Friday night and the pub was really quiet with plenty of tables open.  We decided to order some beers and food.  I had an order of fries with their sriracha dipping sauce.  The fries were really crispy and well seasoned.  My fiance had the club sandwich, and that was fantastic as well.  Actually, no one had any complaints about the food, except my friend who had to wait over an hour for an order of calamari.  For an appetizer at a pub, that wait time is completely ridiculous.

Around 10 pm, the music in the pub went from a decent level to headache inducingly loud.  We had to yell across the table to hear each other.  We decided that it was time to migrate to a new pub, so we asked two different waitresses for our bill.  After waiting for over 15 minutes, we gave up and got ready to go.  Once a waitress noticed and finally gave us our bill, we couldn't believe the automatic gratuity.  18%!  It's completely ridiculous.  For our "huge" party of 6 (with lots of people coming and going), there was no reason to add on an automatic huge gratuity.  This "gratuity policy" isn't mentioned anywhere in the menu, so be warned.  We begrudgingly paid it, but with this, the super loud music, and poor service, I doubt we'll ever come back here.

You had me at we-named-our-bar-after-the-lead-singer-of-The-Smit hs (even if he is a bit of a pompous windbag, we love him just the same).

Funky decor with a bit of a medieval British hipster meets Texas Chainsaw Massacre theme going on. Great beer list. Great scotch list. Comfy seating. Good service. I was happy.

The Morrissey is my go-to drinking spot on Granville. No cover, rarely a lineup, affordable beverages, ALWAYS awesome music, and the space is small enough that you're guaranteed to make a new friend or two before the night is up. Not the best layout, as the lineup for the bar usually ends up colliding with the communal tables as new arrivals shove their way past, but at the very least you'll probably get your butt touched.

Good food. Music was like somebody was kicking my brain. Servers seemed to think a little black dress was a replacement for actual service. One of us waited an hour for an appy. Would not come back.

Been told my companions got dinged for an automatic gratuity. I didn't see it on my bill, but it may have been there and it was never mentioned. Be warned. Don't eat here.

One of the best bars in Vancouver.
Funky decor, great atmosphere and an interesting crowd all give this place its charm.

If you get there early enough there is a lot of great (and comfortable) seating, but get there late, and you'll have to wedge yourself into the standing room that's left.

Great drink selection and service at the bar is quick and friendly. It tends to be a little slower if you're getting served at a table.

Good music and no cover also add to how much I like this place.

I stopped in The Morrissey for dinner and drinks, they had several drink specials but the dinner menu was quite limited, it is just burgers with a few appy options.

I got their vegetarian burger which was a chickpea patty, while the flavors were really good, chickpeas are naturally grainy and mushy and they texture was a bit like chewing on a tasty piece of playdo slipped into a bun with some veggies and cheese!

Chicken wings were on special and the whole bar smelt like smoked barbecue, while I am against eating chickens I love me the smell of barbecue sauce!

The decor and crowd was a little hipster but that doesn't bother me, they have lots of random pictures on the walls, a huge wax covered chandelier, pew like booths, tricycle hanging on the ceiling, it gave me something to do while I waited a long time for my food, people that came after us were served first. Otherwise the service was good, the music wasn't rechid and their was lots to look at!

Definitely the best pub on the Granville strip. My co-workers and I come here about once a month for Friday drinks and cheap appies (1/2 price on Fridays from 3-7).

The decor is super cool, there's a fireplace and chandeliers and the whole place has a bit of an Addams family vibe...minus the creep factor. They play GREAT music (punk, rock, new wave, etc) and I always get to hear at least one of my favourite songs while I'm there.

Drinks are very reasonably priced and there are always a couple of beers from their vast selection on special, usually under $5. The staff are super friendly and make a dirty gin martini exactly the way I like it. We usually get the chicken wings drenched in a super addictive BBQ sauce and the calamari - both are quite good and extremely large portions.

Never been here at night, so I can't say anything about the vibe past 6pm, but it's a really cool place that successfully stands outside of the typically-douchey Granville box.

I was a fan off the Morrissey, nice decor, great music and a comfortable space. Normally this would be an easy 4 stars for me but last night they left me with a post Canucks bad taste in my mouth.

    Auto-gratuity.

Yes that is correct, with our gigantic group of 3 we were charged an auto gratuity and informed of this after we received the bill. The reason for this? Well apparently there is an auto gratuity for the Canucks game. After some thought I was able to translate this in a way I could understand:

"Hello, because it's busy here i'm not going to be able to serve you properly. With this higher than normal activity level this allows me to be rude to you and leave you waiting while you go to the bar yourself to get a drink. Thanks for automatically paying for our well deserved gratuity, I hope you don't realize this charge is on the bill so we can further solicit money that we do not deserve."

So Morrissey, enjoy the automatic gratuity you charged me last night and congratulations on converting a semi-regular patron into an avid boy-cotter

Atmosphere: A lot has changed since the last time I was here in the mid 90's. It looks classier without alienating their target audience. My good friend and I went the other day and we had a kick out of the plaid design behind my seat that tripped him out like those magic eye prints from the 90's. We changed seats to trip each other out for fun. There is a nice chandler in the back which adds more character than class.

Service: Was great. Our hostess was very patient with addressing my dietary concerns. She made sure that my friend and I were okay by checking in periodically in respectable time frames. At one point the owner came and gave our dishes which was a nice personal touch, a connection that isn't made with a lot of owners and their patrons. Granted that it was semi slow but still it's these little things that count with me.

Food: OMG the hand cut chips are to die for. My friend and I ate a chip at the same time and our eyes bugged out of our heads. We both had that shocked OMG speechless look on our face, the kind that you would see in an SNL skit. What made these chips was the masala spices which worked very well. My tongue didn't know what to do with itself.

Price: Prices were decent. I had a Groupon which stretched the dollar. I can easily see how this would end up being a $50 plus night based on the beer and snack selection alone.

This place was always a "go-to" back in the day. So my bestie and I visited tonight after a few years away and found it strange the back was closed off to make it feel more full (?) like it used to.

Notably the biggest difference was the incredibly intoxicated level of our waitress. All I can say is WOW. She was visibly drunk and spilled our own drinks on us, more than once.

This place is still a nice hang out with good atmosphere but maybe is slipping down the ol' poop shoot!!?! Hope the old girl can bounce back, and quick!

The Morrissey is always one of those places that I forget exists and then when I do remember I get so excited that I get trashed and forget I was there. Oh, no, wait, it's not quite like that....

I really enjoy the Morrissey, you can sit at the back until quite late lounging at the tables and then there's always a place at the front that you can elbow your way into.

The service staff are lovely, attractive, fun people who are always happy to suggest a new drink and help you fill your glass.

The atmosphere is very much that of the kind of place that makes me feel at home, dark, woody, big chandeliers hanging everywhere, art on the walls, generally a good place fi you ask me.

The Morrissey is also a great place to people watch. The clientele never cease to amaze me and if you nestle in a comfy chair in the corner you could spend the night sipping on a drink and watching people go by.

I honestly do not understand why people like it here so much. A couple years ago, this was almost always the meeting spot for our social group, and eventually I just stopped going. I have never had decent service (at most time the bartenders have been outright rude), at night it is crowded way beyond comfort, and the DJ once even refused to play The Smiths because he hated Morrissey! The nerve! Haha.

I haven't been there in over a year, so if it's improved, feel free to correct me, but as it stands, I am not a fan of this venue. I always go in happy and leave stressed out and annoyed.

This place is named after The Smiths lead singer, but it's not at all depressing like his music. Went to this place one night on my trip to Vancouver and caught a UFC fight here. The selection of European beers on tap is as good as I've seen. This is a good sized place that has booths, tables, bar, and couches. I dug the scene and found it to be a great place to have a brew, watch sports, and have a great conversation.

Morissey's was an excellent bar to drop into.  It's an irish bar, but it caters to a more upscale crowd.  Stylish and high-energy, its fun.  Nice location on Granville Street too.  Plentiful selection of beers, the bartender was helpful in finding some nice Canadian brews, and my favorite was the Red Devil.  Not bitter but quite intense, the beer helped take some sting out of the cold winter night.

The Morrisey also definitely has a rock and roll vibe, with rock on the stereo, and all the funky decor on the wall and from the ceiling.  It's a mishmash of nostalgia and contemporary that captures the spirit of the music.  Also the decor is fun and fantastic too.  Whether, you're drinking on the red stools at the bar, on apple green banquette seats, in comfy leather armchairs in front of the gas fireplace, or on long "picnic" tables in the back areas, there's always an interesting spot to sit.  Morrisey's is a nice spot.

Been here quite a few times now and should give my experiences at this popular watering hole.

Ambiance (4/5) : Dark, a fireplace, a few tables and a long bar. That's all I require from a place that serves beer in a casual environment. My favourite place to sit is the long table at the back, better view to watch all the hooligans in front of you. Chill atmosphere unless it's UFC night obviously.

Food/Drinks (3.5/5) : Food is below average for me but the drinks were good, especially when you get free Guiness! We had the Moe's wings (Curry, Salt & Pepper, Hot), and Chicken Strips. The Wings were decent, a bit small and the best one for me was the Salt & Pepper seasoning as I'm a bigger fan of dry rub wings than the wet ones. I was downing Gin Tonics most of the night with some shots thrown in. Drinks weren't watered down so, can't really complain.

Service (3.5/5) : Slow during the busy hours and patrons should probably show a little more courtesy by not standing in between tables while they are trying to serve. The poor lady was venting to me about that...people need more manners as she was trying to do her job. She kept here attitude happy though so kudos to her. Better to order drinks at the bar if you are in a rush or double-fist 'em.

As per usual in this city get there late and you will have to line up. Although unlike other bars/clubs in Vancouver they usually start the line up when the pub is packed and not to make them look attractive from the outside!!

The service is less than desirable so I can't give it more than 3 Stars but I would recomend it for groups of friends on a Fri/Sat night for a catch up and some snacks, the food is edible!!

    Beer selection: good
    Atmosphere: hopping
    Space: cramped

But the best part about the Morrissey - is the turbo jet engine style hand dryers in the bathroom. One time, I was helping with an event, and a hair stylist did my hair using one of these babies. I was wind blown and beachy looking in 2 minutes flat - I mean poofy!

what's not to love about a very chill bar that's literally right below the hotel you're staying in?

especially when the music is fuckin' a on point...

and their playing the hockey games and Vancouver is winning and you get to see the locals go wild...

and the drinks are weak sauce (which is the case everywhere in Canadia, apparently) but thank the Gods they have decent red wine that always gets the job done...

and the people for the most part are hella kewl...

and the service sucks ass but at least they're solid for conversation...

and it's dark so you don't have to worry bout looking good...

and you can head out for a falafel wrap after getting shit faced here, then pass out at your hotel all within several mins of each other.

i fell in love with this spot. it's one of the places i'd def come back to on a regular basis if i lived in the urrea.

but for the love of God, would you cats PLEASE put some alkeymahal in your drinks?

The thing about the Morrissey is that it's about as Irish as an Irish bar is in Ireland.  In other words, no bloody shamrocks, leprechauns, green beer or the other stereotypical Irish bunk that gets this Irishman worked up.

An unpretentious place to grab a beer which is something of note in the city center.   It has large tables that can accommodate your bigger parties.

One of my pet peeves is dirty beer lines,  you can really taste it in a Kilkenny or Guinness and the Morissey typically has clean lines.  Good cottage pie too (Cottage pie is shepherds pie but made with beef instead of lamb).

So not impressed with the Olympic-gouging service charge that was added to our bill. Even though our bill was split up and each of us had our own service charge of about 18% added to our drinks and dinner, there was nothing on the menu stating this fact and also nothing said to us by our server when we arrived.

The service was still good, and I probably would have tipped 20% but I don't like being told how much I should and should not tip. I don't like that they have added a mandatory tip onto my bill and not told me, so if I hadn't read the thread on the Yelp Talk forum, I wouldn't have even checked and left the 18% plus my 20%. So I pretty much would have paid 38% in tips when my bill before tips and tax was only about $28, which is about a ten dollar tip.

Don't get me wrong, the drinks were good, the fries I ordered were good, the waitress was great, she even checked to see if the oil the fries were cooked in was vegan-friendly, and it was! :) I'm just not down with the Olympic-gouge. We should be welcoming the world, not taking advantage of them. TIPS ARE NOT MANDATORY!

This is one of the few places that I really like going to on Granville. You don't need to show up SUPER early to get a seat and the service is a lot better than it used to be.

Good drink prices. Good music. You get the bonus of a mixed clientele. Everything from old rockers to new drinkers.

The comfy chairs by the fire are my fave

Fun Fact: for some reason, the hand drier in the washroom is the most-powerful in the city. Seriously, it's like a jet engine.

Ahhh the Morrissey - how do I love thee.    If you are looking for a good place to have a beer and some great music - then this is the place for you.  Plenty of places to sit from rustic tables/chairs, to comfy chairs by the fire to bar tables/stools.

The food is excellent - my personal favorite being the calamari, and/or the hot wings.     A caveat to the hot wings - every once in a while you'll get the chef on an off-day and the wings come out over done.

The music is great - from 60's music to British new wave, to Rockabilly to good old rock'n'roll  - the music is fantastic.  Mainly with a British atmosphere - but always good.

The liquor is probably the second best part here next to the vibe of the room.  I find it hard to find a good pint of Kilkenny or Guinness in town - but they have both on tap and are reasonably priced.    The house wine isn't out of a box either!

What a stinkin cute bar!  I'd classify Morrissey more as a hip but chill lounge than Irish pub, but either way, a good time can be had here.

We arrived on a night that was pretty dead. I think it was a Sunday. Even though it's a big place it still seemed cozy. The whole bar is dimly lit, with candles all around, and we enjoyed sitting in the padded booths. I'm sure the place has a different vibe when packed but I bet I'd still like it. Our waitress was friendly and attentive and made good beer suggestions for us out of towners. Lots of beers I'd never heard of, but maybe are familiar to Canadians. The beers weren't cheap, but I think the ambiance made it worth it. The street was all torn up when we were in town and parking in the area seems to be generally a bit of a challenge.  Much love for Morrissey -- Yelp did me right when it came to nightlife suggestions! If Morrissey could be moved to Seattle (or perhaps more feasibly if I moved to Vancouver) I'd go here all the time!

(As noted in other reviews, the hand dryer in the bathroom is insane. I mean "jet powered" is not an exaggeration! )

Came here Friday night for a party. Was amazed and pleased at how packed it was. We took over a couple of tables in the back and thankfully had ample room to sit or stand, as we pleased.

I definitely agree with all other reviews that service is super slow. But with that many patrons shoved in to a small space, I guess that's expected. Our first round of drinks were forgotten but our server was very pleasant throughout the night. A beer ordered was out and so a replacement brand was brought, on the house. Definitely a nice touch.

The DJ is always entertaining to watch and the decor is dark, with fun lights in the back section. The room gets quite loud and so ensure you're not going for a quiet 1 on 1 session. Washrooms look to be a part of the hotel and are clean and basic.

A bartender at Smiths in Victoria recommended this bar to us. We had to walk a couple block to find parking, as the adjacent parking is only for the hotel that is right by the bar. This place has a pretty chill atmosphere and a cool crowd. The music they played was pretty good too. During the busiest part of the night, you're better off ordering your drinks at the bar as the one or two waitresses available take kinda long to bring the orders back, which is not surprising.  When we did get service however, the waitress was really friendly and even suggested drinks including  yummiest shot I've had, "The Burt Reynolds".
This place even has a hot nut machine...how can you top that?!?

I wanted to give a good review after my first visit but for my second visit they applied auto-gratuity to the bill part of the Olympic gouging. ONE star.

As for a pub itself it gets to be like a pub, no frills, with Pilsner Urquell on tap (that gives you bonus points).

The food is more local than Irish, and the beer selection has more variety (Pilsner Urquell is Czech) than just Irish stuff.

The fact that I returned the second time already means that I would have given more stars.

I've never been to Ireland, so I can't comment, but I have been to London, England.  And this is the closest thing to being at a London Pub I've found in Vancouver.  Maybe some English or Irish person will be annoyed at me for this, but I can only comment on what I know.
I love the vibe in here on a busy night.  I am sure they are breaking the Fire code how packed it gets in here sometimes, but that creates a very different experience.  I found this a great place to meet new people, I even met my current girlfriend here.

There's just a great party vibe going on, lots of fun, and lots of energy.

I liked the insides of this place. It's a fun place to sit and chill with friends or hang out with a bunch of people you just met for the first time at a pub crawl. It gets 3.5 stars, which I round up to 4, for having peach ale, which I've never had before. It wasn't a Growers' Peach cider, by any means. It tasted like beer and the aftertaste was of peaches.

The food... eh. Not so great.  I saw the chicken strips and they didn't look as good as they sounded on the menu. And it was reported to not actually be worth the $8 they cost. The quesadilla was a bit... bland? It only had cheese in it--nothing else.  Served with sour cream and some sort of red paste, which i think was salsa, but didn't taste like it.

    So basically:
    Drinks - yes
    Food - no

God damn I love lounging by the fire.  The Morrissey is perhaps the most inviting of bars in this town.  Dimly lit, upbeat crowd and a roaring fire flanked by leather seats.  Perfection.

The place is always busy on a weekend and the young crowd is receptive to the beats and inexpensive drinks.  The fire may not be creating that much literal warmth, but the vibe it creates is undeniable.

Put a glass of brandy in my hand and I could remain in front of that fireplace for the remainder of autumn and winter.

    Jury's out, perhaps I will.

I was here with coworkers on a Thursday night. Tired, thirsty and hungry. Drinks were no problem, but I figured the food might be a little average. I was happily surprised that this wasn't the case.

I had something called "hippy chick" I think. Basically a burger patty made of chick peas. It was really good, and a deal at $11. I'd definitely recommend this place. Both for the food and the gothic atmosphere.

In the pub for over an hour without getting served. Tried multiple times to get the attention of the (hungover and loudly whining about it) waitress as she was serving everyone else around me. Actually left to go eat elsewhere because she wouldn't acknowledge me at all. Wanted to like the place, but I'll stick to places that bother to give half a rat's ass about their customers instead.

The Morrissey isn't necessarily worthwhile for any sort of razzle dazzle. In fact it's better for quite the opposite. Existing along the generally loud and obnoxious Granville strip, The Morrissey is one of the few oases of calm.

It's a bit of a small but deep space accented by a dark atmosphere. That said it still maintains a huge bar and tons of seating so plenty of patrons tend to pile in here until it is packed. There are always a few seats in the back though, and I've never had trouble getting smaller groups in.

Granville tends to focus on the early-twentysomething crowd but The Morrissey also has the distinction for being a little older and slightly less rambunctious, though I must say it is still quite a pick up joint.

This is a great place for a relaxing drink and sit down in a group.

This is my kind of pub. Dark, gothy, interesting decor and art, and an awesome veggie burger! I feel this place may attract a more mature crowd from the rest of the cheesy bars on the Granville strip. I often forget about this place for some reason, i think it's because it's right beside the Granville bridge.
Also the beer, and strongbow on tap definitely hit the spot.
Music is always good, but service is sometimes slow.
