The Met Bar & Grill is all you expect a neighborhood pub to be. Laid back and casual. It features a large bar and screens to watch sports in. There's pool tables and a large patio. When I went there, there were many locals just hanging out and enjoying a drink or two. A regular, normal, neighborhood pub.
Except for the food. Sure their menu has your regular pub fare: Calamari, burgers, pizzas etc. What grabbed my attention was their daily specials. I was there on a Thursday, so I ordered the Prime Rib Dinner with Yorkshire Pudding ($12). I was told that this special goes very fast, and I can see why.
The prime rib was one of the best I've ever had! I am not exaggerating folks, this was one fine, fine piece of meat. It was slow roasted to perfection, and so juicy and moist, it literally melted in your mouth. I've never had prime rib that good.
Not only was the portion generous, it came with two sides (mashed potatoes and corn) and a tasty Yorkshire pudding that was so buttery and light - I am drooling as I write this, it was that good.
I won't lie, The Met dropped the ball on the sides, as I'm sure that the corn came out of a can and the mashed potatoes were not very inspiring, but I am willing to forgive all that for a taste of that Prime Rib again. By the end of my meal I've eaten everything, and it took all my willpower not to lick the plate clean.
I should mention that my server Stephanie, was the best server I ever had. Not only was she psychic (yes, psychic), when it came to anticipating my every need, she was very knowledgeable, and even thought she had her hands full, I saw her making an effort to be personal with all her tables. This is what I mean about dining out should be an experience.
I will be coming back to try out more of their daily specials, as I am intrigued by this place. Do not judge a book by its cover folks, The Met Bar and Grill offers more than meet the eye. Follow them on Twitter @MetBarGrill -

This review is for the attached Beer and Wine store.
Average at best. I miss the days when all the staff that worked there had facial piercings and crazy coloured hair. Oh, and they were all super friendly. I guess management changed a few years back and so did all the staff - now I'm surprised when someone even acknowledges my presence, let alone asks me how my day is going.
Pricey, like most beer and wine stores, and has a small selection. I tend to only go here if I happened to be in that neck of the woods and it's ten minutes to 11pm so I don't have time to go anywhere else.
The bar could be good, but honestly I've never felt the need to go check it out. -

The Met Bar and Grill is a pleasant little pub in the the Met Hotel in downtown New West. The hotel was built in 1892; for Vancouver, that's real old. The door to the Met pub and cold beer and wine store is also right next door to Columbia SkyTrain station. No drinking and driving, hear?
The pub features a big bar and and TVs for watching sports, which is not my thing, but the dudes seem to like it. Tables are comfy and good for big groups. The food is your regular pub food - calamari, burgers, pasta, etc. - and there is a good selection of beer on tap. Definitely a beer-n-burger, unpretentious sort of place to hang out.
On nice days, we take advantage of the large courtyard patio. The tables are shaded and well-spaced so you never feel crowded or dominated by the next table's conversation.Even though the SkyTrain station is right there, separated by just a meshy wall, the patio is verdant enough that the comings and goings of the train and the din of passengers is never really bothersome.Listed in: Bright Lights, Royal City

Have been here many times. Summer or Winter this little pub is a great place to be. The food is good and the service is great. In the summer the courtyard patio is nice. Although it is next to the skytrain, after a few pints you really don't notice it too much lol. It's also a nice relaxed atmosphere to watch a hockey game. Last game I watched there, my friend and I made friends with the couple at the next table and had a good laugh. It really is that nice little neighbourhood pub.
