You don't have to be a local to eat at the Marina Grill - but it helps, because this waterfront restaurant/pub is a little hard to find if you don't know where make that turn. (Past the Lynnwood, second left, left again, drive around past a couple boatbuilding places and you're there.)
It's great for weekend breakfasts - packed to the gills, but they can usually squeeze you into one of the two dining rooms, or on the big patio in nice weather. Even on Father's Day, my family has never had too much of a problem with wait times or service.
A friend recently invited us for dinner here, and again it was a great experience. The room was toasty warm, owing to several roaring fireplaces, but when my companion found it a little too hot, the server was quick to shut off the one nearest her. I think this indicates how attentive and nice the staff is, making for a pleasant meal no matter what you're having from the vast dinner menu.
We enjoyed several appetizers, though I was a bit dismayed that they all seemed to be deep-fried (typical of pub food). The steamed mussels, which come in a creamy, herb-infused broth, were delicious. My husband got the prime rib, which he reports was perfectly done. The portions are generous, and the prices are very reasonable for bottles of wine. At the end, all I wanted to do was take a nap on the banquette. OK, just joking. But I was very full.
The Marina Grill is not gourmet by any means, but simply a restaurant where you can linger over a meal, without spending buckets of money or feeling rushed or having your head pound from the noise that often infects chain restaurants of similar quality.
As you can see from the photos, in the summertime, its patio with a view of Burrard Inlet and the Ironworkers Memorial Bridge is the place to be.Listed in: North Shore Eats

Food is good, staff are great however if you have kids... Bring your own high chair! Unbelievable! When I asked why there were no highchairs or booster seats I was told "the owner hates kids". Consider yourself warned.

Just did my taxes, and was amazed at how often I came across Marina Grill receipts.
It's our fav place for weekend brunch--"Eggs my way" are a cheap 6 bucks and come with the stuff weekends are made of: bacon or sausage, hash-browns and toast.
With a view of the marina and friendly staff, awesome deck in the summer, Marina Grill is a safe bet for breakfast/brunch (haven't been there for anything else). -

I've lived in North Van almost my entire life. I pass by their sign that protrudes out on the side of the Second Narrow's bridge every single day. After seeing it for 20 years, and hearing good things, the Man and I decided to go there for brunch on a Sunday.
The place is massive. We were fine with waiting for a table, and we did, even though we saw lots of empty ones. I was super hungry, and I know I get bitchy when I'm at that point, so I decided to keep my mouth shut. After about 15 minutes, we were seated at the Fireside Lounge. Sounds nice, doesn't it? It is. Except there was only one server and we had to wait 10 minutes to catch any glimpse of her after we were seated. She would drop by, scan the room, and leave. I'm not kidding. Umm...could we please get some coffee? Water???
Me:
Two eggs, poached medium
Grilled ham
Salad instead of toast
Hashbrowns
The Man:
Clubhouse sandwich - no mayo
Salad
Hashbrowns were missing from my plate. The clubhouse was smothered in mayo.
Sigh.
When we notified our server, she just gave us blank-then-confused looks. "Oh...okay, I'll bring you a side of hashbrowns?" Please do. "And I'll replace your clubhouse." Please do that also. Thank you!
When we got there, it was just after noon. When we left, it was almost 2:30. I'm not exaggerating.
I guess if you have all day to burn, you wouldn't mind spending all that time there. And I wouldn't have minded either if we didn't have to *hope* our server shows herself so we can get the coffee topped up.
During our meal, two tables of two were seated and because of our server's disappearing act, they upped and left.
Perhaps they were just short on servers. For the record, the Man said the replaced sandwich was "very good", and they did a decent job with my eggs. I appreciate them not tacking on extra bucks to replace the toast and ham. I would give this place another chance. -

Great place for that brunch where the quality of the eggs bennie matters. Killer view out over the marina and a wonderful deck for sunny summer days. Service can be a bit casual, but this is not the place for those in a hurry in any case.
One of the charms of this neighborhood secret is that it is hard to find. Look up the directions on google maps before you go or have a GPS.
Addendum: I tried dinner for the first, and last, time last night. The Grill will still be on my list for breakfast/brunch, but dinner demands a rather more sophisticated and skillful approach to menus and preparation than was shown last night. -

Marina Grill has been a favorite of my parents' for several years now. Tucked away under the Second Narrows Bridge, the patio opens onto a small marina and overlooks with harbor. The location is a little difficult to find; the restaurant is nested between industrial buildings on the other side of the railroad tracks.
Upon arriving, we were seated quickly on the patio. The patio was bathed in sunshine during the early evening, but quickly became cool as the sun started to disappear. It would have been nice if they'd had some heaters or blankets to help keep warm.
The dinner was only so-so. I'm entirely convinced that my family comes for the atmosphere, as opposed to the food. I had a prawn salad with cashews. What arrived was a huge bowl of lettuce with a few token peppers, cashews, and prawns on top. When a salad is costing you $12, it's a little disappointing when it's 95% lettuce. My mother ordered a beef stir fry that was also mediocre at best. My father and brother had a little more luck with a veggie burger and the fish and chips; it may be best to stick with pub type food.
In contrast to the mediocre food, the service was good. Our waiter was very friendly and quick to bring water for the table. He answered all our questions and brought our food in a timely fashion. Overall, it was a decent experience; however, I've had far better food at a much lower price in comparable locations. -

You wanna impress your date or your family? Then bring them to The Marina Grill. Charming is the best word to describe this place: it's warm, classy, cozy and located at the Marina right on the edge of the water.
You can have breakfast, lunch or dinner at The Marina Grill. At dinner, menu items are comparable to what you find at The Keg (steaks, prime rib, seafood, pasta, burgers, salads). The place is licensed and the service is friendly and efficient. The water gives the experience that extra something...and the food is very high quality.
Their unique item: their soups. They make the soups the day before and serve it the next day so the flavors meld together. Genius!
I fully recommend The Marina Grill for that important dinner where you have to impress someone..
One other word: On a busy Saturday or Friday night, you will find it challenging to get an immediate table at The Keg. You will NOT have that problem at Marina Grill. If you do have to wait, you wont have to do so for long. -

If I could give it less than 1, I would.
We were clearly an imposition to our waitress, who clearly didn't want to serve us.
Our order came after others had come and gone. When it finally arrived, it was screwed up.
Just a horrible experience.

Delicious food - I had the Prime Rib which was done just the way I like it, rare. Service was pretty good, considering how it was (it was a semi-sunny late afternoon/early evening). Drinks came within 5 minutes, and the food came within 20.

Go for the deck not the food, I keep going back and they keep disappointing me (food). The ambiance (if you sit outside, Inside is like a 70's neo classical hoffbrau house) The outside deck is right on the Lynwood marina, so you get the sea the boats (and the traffic on the Second narrows bridge) Totally and truly west coast ... if only the food was better

For the BEST seafood clubhouse sandwich on the north shore; you have to check it out...sit in the lounge it has great plasma screens for watching sports and the patio is right on the water.

Met my mom there for lunch and we both had the Yacht Club sandwich which was spot on. Not too saucy, could taste both the crab and shrimp and it was huge. Reading some of the reviews before hand i was a little skeptical, and i guess I can see why people hate on the food quality (side salad was a little suspect) but if you just stick to the things a marina grill would probably do well (seafood, chowder, burgers) you'll be more than happy. And on a sunny day, it's a great hidden gem in North Van for a patio lunch.
