Explanabrag warning: I came here for dinner with my husband to celebrate four years of being together.

As a thank you for helping with a project, my husband received a very generous $100 gift card to The Marc so we used it for our anniversary dinner. I thought we would go way over budget, but even though it's a fairly nice place, the prices were surprisingly reasonable.

To start, my husband did escargot and I had the arugula and beet salad. I can't speak for his appie but mine was fantastic! Perfect flavours, not too salty, very fresh.

I had the half cornish hen for my main, which I ate like it was my last meal on earth. Very delicious, and perfectly roasted - the meat fell off the bone perfectly. And, if you can believe it, the red lentils it came with were even better than the hen itself. Just ridiculous (in a very good way). Husband had the tuna, which he very much enjoyed, and we also shared the bacon-braised cabbage for a side. Again, very good. But it was very bacon-y, so how could it be bad?

Healthy husband just sipped on coffee post-meal, but I did the creme caramel. I take back what I said about eating the game hen like it was my last meal on earth. That's actually what I did with the creme caramel. Forget savouring.

All that food plus a half litre of wine came to only $130, which I feel is fairly reasonable. We left a generous tip because our server was very, very good. Attentive without being overbearing, and knowledgeable about the food and wine. Example: we told him that we loved the wine and asked him if he could please write down the name of it on our bill. He not only wrote it down, but provided us a list of local wine stores that carry the bottle. Wow.

Definitely a must-visit for a nice night out in the city!

Perhaps it's because I haven't dined finely for quite some time, but I found the food at the Marc to be a little on the salty side, from the soup to my brisket sandwich, to the french fries.

But a tad too salty is better than flavourless in my book. And everything else about the Marc was perfect, from the bread, to the butter, to the texture of the fries, to the sharpness of the decor to the professionalism of the servers. I like how the servers wear freshly-pressed white shirts, rather than the skin-tight black that the servers at every overpriced chain restaurant around town wear.

The Marc is a great place for a sophisticated business lunch. I look forward to trying something more on the gourmet end the next time I go.

My first time to The Marc was earlier this week and I can tell you that I definitely will be back soon. Classy and elegant decor, lovely staff and excellent food. We arrived before their kitchen opened, but we were seated and were served beverages while we waited. I chose the pork confit mac & cheese lunch special and it was wonderful. The price was very reasonable and the portion was proper as well. Two thumbs up!

I went to The Marc for a quick lunch while I was attending a conference downtown.  I loved it so much I also went back the following day.

The restaurant was packed both days but I managed to grab a seat at the bar.  I had the butternut squash soup and roast chicken salad.  The soup was delicious and reasonably priced at $6.  The roast chicken salad was probably the only disappointing meal I had there.  While there was a generous serving of goat cheese on the salad and it tasted great, it seemed slightly overpriced for how much it filled me up (I think $13).  The following day I had the pulled beef sandwich which delivered much more bang for its buck (also $13).  The sandwich tasted delicious and was so big I had the other half leftover for dinner.

The service was friendly and fast.  I was in and out within 45 minutes - awesome for lunch!  On my way out the manager (maybe even the owner?) actually chased after me to thank me for coming in.

Overall a great restaurant for lunch that I will definitely be going back to - maybe for dinner next time.

Highly recommend this place! the steak tar tar was excellent as was the game hen and the pork shoulder confit:) Our server was excellent and the owners ensure that your dining experience is a memorable one...other than the bar tender that thought he was too cool for skool, it was a great place!

Fabulous. I've heard a lot of good things about The Marc and finally, for my mom's birthday, I attended. From the moment I saw the owner greeting everyone at the door, I knew I was in for a good evening.

From appetizers, to mains, to even desserts, The Marc really hit it all the right notes. Our server was perfectly nice and cordial.

Execution was flawless! I had the veal cheek to start, which almost felt like a main because it was a meaty slab of goodness. For my actual main, I had the pork confit which was swimming in tomato sauce and veggies -- also perfect. I had a taste of my grandma's arctic char which was quite tasty, but I have to say, the scallop appetizer on beet sauce? SO GOOD. I had nibbles of the mussel appetizer in cream sauce, and that was also great.

Top it off with tasty and simple, freshly made beignets (aka doughnuts) it was a night to remember.

Highly recommended. Will be back. Just bring your wallet.

Yum yum yum!!!  I was definitely impressed with this place.  The atmosphere was great, casual with a classy feel but not pretentious.  The service was amazing and I love places with smaller menus as you know everything is made fresh.  I had heard the steak tar tar was amazing and it definitely lived up to the hype.

Great place for a date night :)

Well its fine dining so do expect to pay more for small portions. I went in and had three courses and still walked out pretty hungry. The service though was super fantastic, the waitress was awesome. The wine was good but my date tried to order a highball and they couldnt really offer one so they made her a drink and well failed, so the date was nagging about it, could of altered my overall opinion. The date is no more but I will be back to The Marc. The overall atmosphere was good and I didnt feel ripped off.

The Marc is one of Edmonton's premiere dining locations. The dining experience was exquisite, from the food to the service. We were celebrating my daughters birthday and found that on a Tuesday evening the restaurant was nearly packed, a good sign! Our meals were delicious, My wife and daughter shared a Caesar salad and thoroughly enjoyed the Arctic Char for their main course. I enjoyed the mussels as my starter, which was a huge portion and could have easily been a meal in itself. The veal tenderloin was prepared perfectly. My wife and daughter ordered the lemon tart for desert and they are still raving about it. I had the beneigh's for desert. Overindulgence for me, but they were magnificent. I am bad with names but our server was a delight, as well.  I would not hesitate to return!

I've now been to The Marc twice and I have to say that my experience there has been the same.

    - Wonderful food. I have tried the beef tartare and mussels and both were fantastic. For entrees, I have tried the duck confit and the lamb. Both were wonderful and the perfect size (I have no idea what the people complaining about portion size are talking about - if you want to stuff your face with as much food as you can, go to McDonalds) The desserts were amazing, and I definitely recommend you leave room for them!

    - Great decor. Simple but classy. I didn't find the large open room concept to be a problem for acoustics at all. It may have gotten a little loud at times, but overall I had no problems hearing my date's conversation. The only complaint I'd have is that the two-person table felt awkwardly long, so I had to really lean in to get close to my boyfriend. Also the music they were playing was really great.

If you want a nice restaurant for a special occasion without completely emptying your bank account, I highly recommend you visit The Marc.

Enjoyed a romantic evening with my girlfriend at the Marc. It was our first time there ever, and while the food was very good, the service was even better. We were well looked after, not having to worry about over-eager serving staff interrupting our conversation.

I enjoyed a roasted pork tenderloin with some excellent spatzle. Spatzle is easy to mess up, but the Marc's spatzle was masterfully prepared.

I really appreciated how simple the room and the menu was. There were some terrific wines on their menu. Given enough time there, I'd have tried them all.

I'm really looking forward to my next visit to the Marc, and enjoying the hospitality of their wonderful staff.

After Food Trucks closed at 8 PM, my group of friends decided to try The Marc out.

After briefly walking by the restaurant during lunch, I kind of got a upscale vibe from it. I should have dressed more as I tossed my hat aside when I left my car. The crowd all had collared shirts and women in dresses.

We had some people that were running late but the staff was very accommodating.

While we waited, I decided to try something to drink. Although their cocktails price in at about $11, I decided to have some beer. Their beer list is very interesting with some brands I have never heard of. I decided to stick with the tried and true Innis and Gun ($8.00).

I don't think I can remember the last time I've had duck so I tried the duck confit. If you've ever had chicken marinated with salt and pepper and roasted in tin foil, that's how I'd describe the duck. The meat didn't really fall off the bone and it was somewhat dry. Is this how duck is supposed to taste? I'm not sure because I'm not a duck connoiseur.
The lentils upon first bites tasted like Asian green mung been. I only discovered the levels of flavor when I mixed it with the apricot puree sauce. I did enjoy my dish but when I tried my friend's steak frites and rib eye I knew I made a mistake ordering the duck. The steaks were on a new level of taste, the fries that accompanied it was very fresh.

I was very impressed with the price considering how upscale the restaurant is: duck was $21.

Our waitress was very personable and actually kind of funny. My only complaint was near the end during dessert service, she actually interrupted my friend mid conversation to describe the dessert menu. I'd think most staff would actually wait until our conversation was over before interrupting or at least have some sort of apology for interrupting. I just thought this was kind of odd.

Overall, I'd like to come back to try their red meat meals.

So I got the chance to go here for a Christmas party on Monday (A Christmas party in February? Oh ya!) and it was...good. I would love to say it was amazing but there was nothing that really stuck out that makes me want to go back on a night where I'm not getting free food and wine poured down my throat.

I started with an appetizer of beef cheeks and fingerling potatoes which was delicious, the beef literally melted in my mouth it was so tender, and the potatoes were good..even if there was only 2..cut in half.
My main course was lamb with pomme sauce and mashed potatoes with a few sprigs of asparagus, really, really good but nothing spectacular, and such small portions, I think I got about 4 bites from my lamb and I was done and still hungry after :( . The best part of the meal was the dessert! Chocolate cake with pecans and what tasted like chocolate ganache poured on top..It was sooo good, I would go back just for the chocolate cake!

The restaurant itself was quite plain but still classy and bright, kind of like a dentists office, and the ambiance was wonderful. The staff was spectacular and went out of their way for you to have a wonderful experience.

The one thing I did not like..The restaurant is set up in a way that it is just one big room, with a hallway leading to the bathrooms and you can actually see right into the kitchen(Which was spotless). But the one big room creates SO MUCH NOISE. The acoustics are terrible! I literally had to yell to have a conversation with the person right in front of me, it was painful and took away from the fine dining experience.

Check it out if you want a good place for a family get-together or if you want to impress a date.

I was pretty excited about this place opening, so I made plans to go almost as soon as it opened. It was pretty quiet when we arrived, but filled up in the next hour.

The service was pleasant and welcoming. They asked if we were in a rush, or if we were looking for a slower-paced evening, and timed things accordingly. We started off with martinis. There were some fun looking ones on the menu, and I got the white chocolate. It was tasty, and kind of like starting with dessert.

They brought us some bread and butter to start off with. It was good, but nothing spectacular. Also, they brought 3 pieces for the two of us. Why? Why do they do that? But anyways. We split the beef cheek with wild mushroom gnocchi for an appetizer. So good. I think I will dream about it for the next few months.

I ordered the steak frites with a side of the lavender honey carrots. It turns out my entree also came with some of the carrots, and I wished the server would have let me know when I ordered them. Oh well. The steak was good, and the foie gras butter it was served with was amazing. The fries were ok, nothing spectacular, but the mayo was also quiet good. My friend's duck confit was also pretty tasty.

We split the creme caramel for dessert, which was nice and creamy. But again, came with one gooseberry and three blackberries. Why?

So. Good food, good service, and the price is actually quiet reasonable. Our bill was under $100 before tip.

This is my new, favorite restaurant.  Hubby and I  dined with another couple.  There was an array of dressiness in the place.  Jeans, skirts, turtlenecks. It was all good. My friends had the menu memorized before we even got there.  The fellows started with beef cheeks.  I sampled a morsel and it totally blew me away.  So tender and flavorful.  Apples? Onions?   I ordered the Arctic char.  Impressive portion.  Skin came right off and gorgeous, white flakey meat was revealed.  Luscious, roasted potatoes and young, asparagus accompanied the dish.  Hubby liked his taste from my plate.  I grabbed some of his duck confit with sour cherry risotto. My eyes were rolling back in my head.  I was transported.   My table mates had steak and duck.  A lot of moaning with pleasure. We all agreed that nothing was over salted or oiled.  The staff helped us with wine selections.  We ordered a litre of red and white.  Fantastic. It was not expensive.  We ladies had the creme caramel and lemon tart.  I never eat dessert, but I was enticed and very glad. With espresso and tea, it came to about $60.00 per person.
I liked the room and atmosphere, but if I was on a romantic date, I would want more privacy and quiet.

My Hubs and I were heading out for lunch and it was a toss up between Niche and the Marc.  In the end, we decided on the Marc because we had yet to try it and have heard good things.
The space is nice - cement floors, and a very modern feel.
The service was good - attentive, but not hovering.
As soon as I looked at the menu and saw the croque monsieur, my decision was made - I cannot see a ham sandwich and not order it.  The Hubs went with the braised beef short rib sandwich.
Mine was definitely the daintier of the 2 - served with a salad (really just a handful of lettuce with an oily, house dressing), the sandwich was quite small with the bulk of the ham bunched onto one half.  The size was fine for me for lunch (since it was supplemented with bites of my Hubs lunch), but I can imagine many people would still be hungry.
The short rib sandwich, however, was pretty hefty.  Served on a crusty roll was a big, moist mound of shredded beef and a bit of slaw for tang and texture.  Almost half of the meat had to be eaten off with a fork before you could even think about closing the sandwich.  This was served with the Marc's signature frites and truffle aioli.  The fries were also good, but it was all bit too rich for my liking (blasphemy, I know!).
Excited to see beignets on the dessert menu, we got an order of those to share - there were 6 to an order and they came out hot, sprinkled with sugar, and accompanied by 2 different dipping sauces - a caramel and a creme anglaise.  The beignets, themselves, seemed a touch underdone and the insides bordered on being gooey.  The caramel sauce tasted burnt (though, I guess it could have been "burnt caramel"), and the creme had a flavour that neither of us could quite place, and couldn't really decide if we liked.
All in all, it was an OK lunch - not bad, but not superstar good.
Next time we venture out for a lunch date, we'll go back to Niche.

My husband and I had the pleasure of dining at The Marc recently with another couple and we could not have enjoyed the entire evening more! We were welcomed very warmly upon our arrival and this definitely set the tone for the night. If this type of service carries through to the meal, we thought, then we have found a wonderful restaurant. Yup, the meal and the service were both exceptional! Prices are very reasonable given the quality of the food. This restaurant has a lively and energetic vibe to it. Definitely one of the best restaurants in Edmonton!

Tres jolie! I haven't had to much french food but what i can say about this place is this- the ingredient are of good quality and healthy tasting (even if it may not be, ha) The prices are very respectable for the good quality food you get, ambience is simple and classy. Frankly, it's a solid choice and one of the best places for food that I've been too. Well done.

Right on the mark. Bang-on! I finally dined at The Marc after drooling about it for weeks, and my high expectations were exceeded. Scallops were firm yet tender, resting atop of bed of earthy peas. Beef steak tartare was a rich, beefy-sweet hit that was perfectly suited to the accompanying baguette toasts. The night's special, mahi-mahi, was flaky and fresh, with a tumble of barley pilaf alongside. Dessert was a tough choice; chocolate cake with sour cherries, plus a platter of hot beignets, prevailed. Gorgeous, open atmosphere and great service. Their patio will open in a few weeks and I will most certainly will return.

This place was an unexpectedly great find.  The restaurant was pretty tiny and the tables were lined up side by side -almost cafeteria style.  Aside from the close quarters - everything else was fabulous.  The food seemed fancy without over the top pricing.  The waitress was pleasant and efficient.  And my friend and I overstayed our welcome while chatting, she was nice enough to refill my glass of water.  Try the beef tartar!!! I will definitely be back.

Nothing to write home about... Went for lunch at the beginning of December. My friend's beef dish was so salty, she couldn't eat it. The waitress was unsympathetic and charged her full price despite taking back a full plate of food. My fish dish was good but this restaurant doesn't come close to the Wild Flower Grill a block away. The best thing on my plate was the vegetables which had great flavour but there were only five tiny pieces. I prefer a small portion but that was pushing it, especially when it was the only colour on the plate.
