The Magnolia Hotel & Spa exceeded my expectations and I'm extremely pleased with the service I received.
Where do I begin? Let's start with the complimentary room upgrade when I mentioned what type of room I had been looking for. After arriving, the valet parking assured me that my vehicle will be taken care of which left me with a peace of mind.
Our diamond corner suite had numerous floor-to-ceiling windows which allowed a ton of natural light to enter our spacious room and provided us with a gorgeous view of the inner harbour. Our room itself was clean, our queen-sized bed was comfortable, we had free internet access, our television came equipped with high-definition cable, and the emanating warmth from the fireplace was a wonderful touch.
Asides from the delicious continental breakfast and the hospitable and accommodating staff, the Magnolia is situated in the heart of down town Victoria which made everything conveniently within walking distance.
I have absolutely no complaints about this place. My girlfriend and I travel around the world a lot and The Magnolia has impressed us. Well done! -

Fantastic hotel!
Came here for a weekend getaway with fantastic accommodations in their "Diamond level" corner room. The room had a view to the harbor, plenty of windows, a comfortable king size bed and a gas fireplace. Everything was perfect.
Valet parking was very simple to use and was ready whenever we were. Bill (the owner) is a very gracious person and understands great service. I've written separate reviews on their Spa and restaurant (Prime Steakhouse), but those are well worth the 5 stars as well.
I will definitely recommend my friends stay here if they are visiting Victoria. Great location, fantastic accommodations, and superb service! -

I am writing this while sitting in our room at the Magnolia looking straight at the magnificent Parliament building. We requested a signature corner room based on their website description, and I am so glad we did. In addition to a picture postcard view, the room is extra spacious, with two comfortable chairs and a small table for relaxing after a busy day of sightseeing. Service here is excellent, free wi-fi and breakfast, and Aveda bath products. Plus, the most cozy bathrobes ever! I just wish I had listened to Eric and booked an extra day!

Love this place! It's super central - the Parliament buildings and the Wharf are about a 5 minute walk away. There's free wifi and complementary continental breakfast with fresh fruit smoothies, a self-serve waffle station, and baked goods that change daily. There's also coffee and tea in the lounge area that you can help yourself to throughout the day. We stayed in the Diamond level corner room with the king bed facing the wharf. But I think I was most thrilled about the Aveda rosemary mint shampoo and conditioner and the super comfy bath robes! :)

Great place in a great location. And free wifi.
Highly recommended with little if any complaints.
We got a cheap rate on priceline so not sure I was pay $250 or $200 but we only $100 and it was a great deal at that price. -

I had the pleasure of staying at the Magnolia this week. It's a gorgeous hotel, right in the centre of Victoria. Very good service, as you'd expect for a boutique hotel. My room was beautiful -- corner suite, fireplace, soaker tub, and all overlooking the Legislature building.
* Watch my video review of the Magnolia at http://www.youtube.com...
The most important things to me in a hotel:
1. Coffee. They had a proper coffee machine in the room with very good coffee and real cream in the fridge. (I hate the single-paper-cup coffee machines hotels are turning to.)
2. Quick hot water? Yep. No wait for the hot water.
3. Things plugged in? Some things. The coffee machine and two lights were unplugged. I don't understand why the last thing on the room prep checklists isn't "Is everything plugged in?"
4. Adjustable heat: VERY good here! Had a thermostat with three levels of fans. When I cranked the heat, the heat in the room indeed went way up. That's great and, sadly, not common.
5. Openable windows: My room had two huge window/doors you could open. Lots of fresh air.
6. Wakeup call. The call came through, but it was just a beeping noise. I always prefer a human being, asking if I'd like coffee or offering to tell me the weather.
7. Room Service: Friendly and quick. You got the full menu from the excellent steakhouse in the hotel. I ordered the baked potato soup, tuna tower, and apple pie. All was delicious! I couldn't find the breakfast menu anywhere, though, which kind of bugged me.
8. Internet: Wired and wireless. Complimentary. Both were very speedy and easy to get online.
Overall, though, I was really happy with my stay!
Disclosure: I did not personally pay for the room -- I was in town to give a speech and my client covered the room cost. I paid for the room service. -

Stayed here on our weekend trip to Victoria. the hotel has a great location downtown. It's close to all the shops and the wharf. About a 10 minute walk to the Clipper terminal.
The staff was very friendly and helpful with food and tourist spots.
The continental breakfast and room service was a plus. they also have nightly turn down service with chocolates on the pillow.
We will definitely be back here for our next trip! -

The room I had was a standard room on their 3rd floor with a single queen beb. Ample space in the rooms and great service. Free continental BF. My only complaints would be that the first few days it took 25-30mins each time the valet would go retreive my vehicle and the windows are pretty thin. Let me explain. It was from a thursday to a tuesday and the noise from people talking/shouting at night was pretty loud in my room.. Besides that it's a great hotel and

This was one of the best hotels I've stayed in, anywhere in the world. While many hotels are comfortable, clean, and luxurious, it is the staff that really sets a hotel apart, and from the time we arrived, we could tell the staff was absolutely amazing. Everyone was very friendly and willing to go the extra mile without holding their hand out for a tip. The room itself was large, comfortable, impeccably clean, and the extra little touches, such as a birthday card and box of chocolates, really made us feel welcomed.
The continental breakfast was quite good, with a large selection such as baked goods, cereals/oatmeal, meats & cheeses, and even a waffle maker. There was a better juice selection than I've seen in most hotels, and everything was promptly restocked during breakfast hours.
The lobby was nice to look at, as well as comfortable, with several plush chairs and a couch, as well as a fireplace. There was also a piano, and they had live music periodically during our stay. They also offered coffee and tea all day, as well as hot cider and seasonal cookies, as we were there over Christmas.
The room service from Prime was absolutely amazing! The food was better than any hotel room service we've ordered before, and it was brought warm and with a smile.
The valet parking was inexpensive compared to other hotels/cities, and our car was always brought around promptly and treated with respect.
I do wish that I could review the Spa separately from the Hotel because I had a less than desirable experience with the receptionist, but I can't allow that to detract from how well the Hotel staff treated us. While I would not return to the Spa, I would gladly return to the Hotel - and hope that we will soon! -

Hearts, butterflies... in my mind there are fireworks in the sky over Victoria when I opened the door to my suite. In my room there were welcome Rogers Chocolates, a bottle of water and an apple all waiting. The bed comfy, cozy. The shower AND tub, beautiful. The Aveda amenities, of course, I'm a fan. The view, swoon. And then they gave me two breakfast vouchers, complete with make your own waffles! Make your own waffles people! (Okay, I confess, I didn't eat the waffles, see previous review on Wannawafel, but the fact that it was even an option made my morning.) But that's didn't make the butterflies and fireworks soar as high as ...
The service. From the friendly valet who assured me my car would be safe in the underground ($15 a day, FYI), to the front desk attendant who checked me in and honoured the rate I'd been quoted over the phone, to the friendly staff in the hallways, saying good night or good morning to me, ordering room service (get the double baked potato if you're craving a carb), I felt at home here.
Fingers crossed that I'll get to be back in Victoria again soon! -

I booked a room at Magnolia for a last minute weekend getaway to Victoria last weekend. Because it was last minute, I got a really good deal on a room through a third party website.
Everything about the hotel experience was wonderful, and I will certainly be staying here again soon if I can get another good deal.
After I arrived to my room, two chocolates, apples, and bottles of water were waiting to greet me. The room and bathroom were spotless. The soaker tub really was wonderful. After a long, freezing ferry trip to Victoria, was I ever glad to see that tub. The Aveda bath products were a nice bonus.
Two things I really like about this hotel: Their list of recommended restaurants was really helpful and well thought-out, listing several restaurants that were very highly rated on Yelp, and at different price points. It gave me a good starting point to find a place for dinner near the hotel. Second, the free continental breakfast. I know many hotels offer this, but there was a good selection of food, and I really appreciate little extras like this.
The hotel also offers a turndown service (which I politely declined due to being immersed in said wonderful soaker tub), and has extra pillows stashed in the closet, which saved me a call down to the front desk.
My only regret is not taking advantage of the spa adjacent to the hotel, but there's always next time, and there will certainly be a next time. -

Centrally-located with exceptional service!
Stayed at the Magnolia Hotel last week and they took very good care of me. Beautiful, clean room with king size bed on the 4th floor. I went out to an office function next door at the Union Club, and when I returned, they turned down my bed for me and left two mints on my night stand. I love attention to detail like that.
In the morning, I enjoyed a paper and my complimentary breakfast which included freshly made waffles; a very nice touch.
Will stay here again for sure.
Solid 4.5 Stars. -
Review from Julia W.
My fiance & I came over the 4th of July weekend for a romantic getaway from Seattle. We took the Clipper over & had chosen the Magnolia Hotel based on reviews we had read on tripadvisor. It was a little on the pricey side although that was to be expected with Victoria.
Check-in wasn't available until 3pm and we arrived via the Clipper at 11am. We opted to stroll around before finally checking into our hotel. The hotel is in a good location and only a few blocks from the "harbor."
The room was oversized and had a fully stocked mini-bar as well as room-darkening curtains. I loved the tub (it was sunken and fit two people) as well as the free-standing shower. My favorite touches had to be the bottle opener on the mini-bar as well as the bath bomb that was part of the bathroom amenities. It came into good use as I forgot to bring a Lush bath bomb.
Breakfast was complimentary next door in the morning to the connecting restaurant and it was limited in food. It was really more of a continental breakfast than anything. It was free so we had a few items to eat (cereal, bagel, etc).
Check-out was pretty painless and the bill was slid under our door before check-out. Most hotels don't do this anymore so it was a nice touch to know what your final bill was (taxes, etc).
I would recommend this for folks without children as it seemed like a quiet hotel and more of a romantic place. -

Beautiful rooms, excellent service, I don't want to go home!
Without question my favourite Victoria hotel. I have stayed for both business and pleasure. If it offered good views of the harbour I'd have to convince Yelp to add a sixth star.
Rooms are modern, clean and spacious, beds are super comfy. Many rooms have a fireplace for the cold winter nights. Large windows mean your room is bright and cheery. Free Internet, both wireless and wired, and a reasonable continental breakfast including hot waffles with berries or syrup. Service is quick and efficient.
Each room has a large soaker tub, a separate shower, and Aveida amenities. I never bath, always shower, but at the Mag I make an exception. And the big cozy bathrobe in the closet to wrap yourself in when you are done - wow!
Within a few blocks radius you can be watching buskers on the waterfront, checking out the wax museum, enjoying some of Victoria's finest dining, or exercising your plastic at the mall or some great stores on Government Street.
The negatives? Well, you are close to a couple of night clubs, so occasionally you'll hear a bit of noise. Not enough to ever bother me. I don't think they have a room service menu (not that I know of - I never use it) but you are so close to great dining, I really don't mind. The views are not of the waterfront, most are of a parkade across the street or neighboring buildings, but that's really not an issue as it's not really nasty and dirty, just not picturesque..
I've stayed at other Victoria hotels and around the world. Magnolia is one of my favourites, and the only one in Victoria I've returned to multiple times.Listed in: Buried Treasures

One of the best places I have ever stayed. The rooms are large, they are a stones throw from the waterfront, the bed was super squishy and warm like a hug from Grimace, they have free wi-fi, Aveda products in the bathroom, they provide you with complementary fluffy robes, and the staff is absolutely amazing.
Every time we had questions about the surrounding area they were happy to help. When my girlfriend and I couldn't make up our minds for dinner, which happens often, so we called the front desk and they did it for us.
They directed us to an amazing little Italian restaurant and that night after arriving back from a club hopped up on Redbull and maybe a splash of vodka we were craving our leftovers. Alas we did not have a microwave so we called downstairs...they rolled one up to us at 3am.
Great hotel with awesome service. -

The Magnolia Hotel is a beautiful boutique hotel in the heart of downtown Victoria.
I have stayed here several times, both for business and leisure. Reasonable rates, exceptional service and a great location are why I return. Extra half point for a decent on-site fitness room and a really nice lounge. Super extra points for the Aveda spa off the lobby (and Aveda amenities in the rooms!) and a big hug for having an infra-red sauna in the gym!
I considered taking off a half point for a mediocre continental breakfast buffet, but considering it's FREE, that would just be mean.Listed in: Best Accommodations

Really liked this hotel in the heart of Victoria. People were friendly, room was clean and comfortable. The only thing that keeps it from being 5 stars was that the breakfast (continental breakfast)was not as good as another place we stayed in Victoria (Abigail's - had a chef with three course meal)

Just what they claim to be, "unbeatable location and good service." From the time we arrived we felt at home. Smiles, service and helpful. It had great views, clean rooms and a great restaurant. Try the clams and mussels appetizer, WOW! Next to everything you want to do in the area. Thank you yelpers for helping us find the best hotel in the inner harbor.

The Magnolia is a gorgeous hotel right in the heart of downtown Victoria. It's got a great location, close to the ferry terminal and all the shops and restaurants in the downtown area.
The staff was exceptionally helpful, was able to meet our early check-in even though we didn't request in advance, and took great care of us throughout our stay. It was like being in a 5-star hotel without the pretention that usually comes along with those properties. Heard the breakfast is great, but we slept in and missed it both days!
The only reason I'm giving 4 instead of 5 stars is the Spa. They should probably call it the "Closet". It is small and cramped. I got a $215 package that included a massage, facial and pedicure. When I drop that kind of money at the spa, I expect the services and the ambience to be of a certain caliber. The woman who initially brought me in seemed nice enough, but after asking me how my holidays were going, she then proceeded to tell me that hers weren't very relaxing at all! Great way to start the spa experience. The locker room/changing area is smaller than a bathroom stall - and if there is even one other person in there at the same time you are in trouble - AWKWARD! Then I had all my services in the same room, again completely awkward as it was so small. The aesthetician/nail tech/masseuse had to try and maneuver between the massage bed and me in an uncomfortable chair against the wall in the treatment room for the foot soak, then everything else, including the rest of my pedicure, happened with me on the massage table.
So, long story short, definitely stay at the hotel. Skip the spa and just go somewhere you know when you get home! -

Wonderful boutique hotel. Way better than Le Soleil Hotels. Rooms are bigger, with a fireplace, bathrooms are bigger, view was better, the hotel was centralized around wonderful cafes, shops, there wasn't too much traffic & there was a bug zoo a couple of shops down. You have to stop & see the bug zoo especially if you have children, it was awesome & very interesting, hands on & educational for the family. My 7 year old daughter loved it. The front desk was very hospitable, friendly, provided wonderful service & advice on the surrounding attractions in the local area.

We did not actually sleep here however my brother and his wife stayed here and we spent some time in their rooms. The rooms are quite nice. Big bed, lots of pillows. Nice bathroom, slippers, robes. My brother and s-i-l thought the staff was great - very friendly and helpful. Good continental breakfast - boiled eggs, waffles, fruit, toast, etc. They got a good deal through a vacation package. We tried to get a room for the weekend and it would have run us $300+/night.

Big fan of the Magnolia after a recent visit. Located a block from the water in downtown Victoria, the Magnolia is situated on a quiet street away from the bustle of the city, but within walking distance of everything you'd want to enjoy.
The well-appointed accommodations include turn-down service, plush robes and slippers, and a bathtub separate from the shower for a soak after a long day of sightseeing. The Magnolia is all about the little touches that make it stand apart from other hotels and worth the stay.
