After a long day, this is a great place to lounge around and grab some grub.  Whether it's the Peasant burger with a fried egg and box cut steak fries or the pretzel with truffle butter and mustard grains, you'll be satisfied.  The crispy pork belly is worth a try for the texture, contrasted by the refreshing watermelon and tamarind sauce to cut the fat.  The cheese plate is interesting with the marmalade and caramel.

The service is fast and friendly.  The ambiance is like a sports bar grill with ample seating in the back.  Parking is ample in the lot across the street.

This place is a new gem that I feel I found in Sherman Oaks. My new favorite salad is their chopped salad that has chicken, salami, cheese cubes, diced tomatoes, thinly sliced pepperoncini, avocado, garbanzo beans, with a light vinaigrette. So freaking good!  Their El Dorado cocktail is a medley of blackberry sweet with a kick of jalapeno kick in every sip.

The service was fantastic. This place is a nice alternate to Laurel Tavern.

Friday night and wanted to share a beer with the hubby after a long week of business travel.

Walked here from home about 10 minutes away. It's our usual default spot for beer in the neighborhood that never disappoints...until this past Friday night.

Place was 80% packed with no seating by the TVs of course. Fine and dandy, we were coming here for food and booze.

Always the typical 'reserved' placecards on random tables that no matter what a weekday night we come in...they're NOT RESERVED! Again, we got the bullshit from the matre'd that everything was reserved. Really, no really? You're going to turn patrons away because we have to RSVP...at a damn bar?

What was even more idiotic this time around was this, and this just pushed it: she wouldn't seat us anyways because the husband was wearing a baseball cap. Let me get this straight: it's not permanently stapled to his head that he can't take it off if we were ever seated to ever eat/drink, but to have the audacity to say that to local patrons that have come here consistently and yes, he's worn his hat inside here many times...that just pushes it. We weren't dressed as slobs one bit, but if the deal breaker is a baseball cap, that's pathetic.

Thanks no thanks Local Peasant. We come here consistently as we enjoy supporting local businesses, especially good ones like this one. Not cool, not cool.

Went this past Mother's day because I LOVE Gastro Pubs.
We would have given this place a 5 for the food alone. Very very yummy. Service, however earned the 4 stars. It did improve our server wen on break & another server took over.
You may need to ignore the Ventura Blvd nut jobs that peek into the wonderfully huge window.
Beers were reasonable, but would love slightly fuller pours. My son loved the mac & cheese. daughter devoured the cheeseburger & the pizza was pretty tasty. And get the onion rings! Salads also looked great at the table next to us.
But do NOT pass on the bread pudding, this was killer. I could forgo the chocolate on top, but it was worth the ridiculous calories.

    quick tips:
    Fish and Chips!!!!
    Onion Rings!!!

    Slightly longer review:
Given their capacity the place was relatively empty. Maybe 15 or 20 people in various states of eat and drink populated the place. We were instantly greeted by a lovely lady who showed us to a 4 top not far from the open windows looking out on the Ralph's across the street.

The beer selection on the wall was excellent.  Not the fact that it was on the wall. My 3 year old cousin can write on the wall. Its not impressive. What is of note is their fine collection of local craft breweries as well as some international all-stars. I am by no means a cicerone but I know my way around a pint.  The prices however cover both ends of the spectrum.

A Scrimshaw Pilsner pint will cost you $6 where as a bottle of Chimay Blue asks you to sacrifice $23 of your hard earned dollars. I know Chimay well. I also know the difference in margins between bottled and keg beer and this mark-up seems a bit exorbitant, but this is Sherman Oaks - the land of Milk and Honey, right?

I went light and had a Scrimshaw.

The server, an imperial looking bloke who has yet to meet a razor his face can use, ran us through the menu. He was nice, knowledgable and proud of the establishment- so much so we asked if he owned the joint. He does not.

The menu is pretty standard Gastro-pub fare.  Think The Haven Pub in Orange or The Village Idiot in West Hollywood without the pretense. We'd just seen The Avengers and were feeling especially out of shape so 3 of us opted for the fish and chips. My wife ordered the portobello burger.

The Fish and Chips are the best we've had in America. My fish is british and even worse Northern. For the uninitiated that translates to a certain affinity for fried fish steaks!

The portobello sandwich was also excellent. ORDER the Onion Rings!

Our regal waiter then gave a complimentary bread pudding. His foresight is blatantly remarkable. He must've known a good review was en route.

    check this place out.

Food: The fries were very good and came with something like a chipotle aioli/mayo, which I will heretofore refer to as their "special sauce". I asked the server and she said it was an aioli, but if that's the case then I'm not sure what the base is made out of, cause it wasn't olive oil. The "Bacon and Eggs" deviled eggs were very good, and had the same special sauce with bacon on top. I ordered a chicken sandwich which currently is not on the menu found on the website, but it was very good. It was a standard chicken sandwich but with a salsa on top, and it came with some damned good onion rings. At this point I was getting pretty tipsy so the details are vague...

Beer: They have Hoegaarden on tap for 5$, which is a winner in my book. After the Hoegaarden I discovered that they had Old Rasputin on a nitrous tap (8$), which I couldn't pass up. I then moved to Sophie by Goose Island (6$?), which was a delicious saison I'd never had before, but really enjoyed.

This was a very calm, relaxed place to have some lunch and beer. The beer was decently priced. Not super cheap, but you're there for the food anyway, as the restaurant produces fantabulous eatables. Not cheap by my standards, as a couple beers and food will easily run you 25$, but a nice treat. I've posted the photos I took on here.

    Beer Club you say??

    Well..  How can I resist?!

Met up with a few friends here on a brisk Sunday afternoon for a beer club get together,  now of course you can't have a beer club if you don't go to a place that doesn't have a good selection of beers.  And a good selection this place has, indeed..  It can be quite overwhelming if you do not know what you're doing, but don't worry, the servers and bartenders here are very knowledgeable and will point you in the right direction..

I arrived just as my friends were ordering the first round..  I ask our server for a recommendation, I was in the mood for something light yet still tasted like a beer..  She suggests Yellowtail... or Coors light..   So Yellowtail it is..  When my beer arrived, it was exactly what I had described that I wanted..  Thank you, more than competent server, in fact, this beer was so spot on, I accidentally on purpose stole my friend cheapy's Yellowtail beer, thinking it was mine, not knowing 3 other peeps in our party ordered it.

I wasn't able to stay long this visit due to other commitments and regrettably wasn't able to try the food which i've been told is pretty darn good..  Next visit perhaps?  Yeah, like I need another reason to come back here..  This place had me at "Hello, here is our beer list"..  Luv the bare white tile "shutter island" walls, nothing like feeling you're going insane to make you want to drink more..  Be careful tho', the bathroom IS pretty cramped, so you'll be leaning into the plate.. Watch out for plunkers..

A few weeks ago, I met up with my 2 friends here at 6pm on a Saturday night and the only table that didn't have a reserved sign was the empty dining area in the back. Our party of 3 sat on the only available spot: a big 10-seater round table. After several minutes without a server in sight, my friend had to walk up to the front and ask for one. Don't worry; this is only one of two unremarkable things about The Local Peasant.

The other letdown, sadly, were the Peasant Minis. I'm no great cook so it disappointed me to realize that I could make a better version of slow roasted pulled beef. Theirs was dry and lacked flavor.

    That's it. Minus one star.

Everything else was above average -
Bacon & Eggs:  applewood smoked bacon on deviled eggs. Scene-stealer.
Thick-cut beer-battered onion rings: lived up to its name. Magnificent.
Crispy Pork Belly with watermelon: Salty + sweet = always a winner.
Moscow Mule: My very first. Refreshing.
    Ambiance: Pretty but unpretentious.
    Server: Sweet and friendly.

What I love about Yelp is that it's a great place to help you find great food places when you're in a pinch. On a Thursday night, I was scrambling to find a place with the right ambiance to meet with a GF to grab a bite and some drinks. I was looking for "LA-casual" atmosphere serving liquor, & good food. I found the Local Peasant on Yelp and decided to give it a go!

    Great ambiance & crowd. Check!
    Great drinks. Check!!
    Great food. Check!!!

There's so much yummy bar snacks & food to choose from on the menu. But so far, I've tried the crispy pork belly, carlsbad mussels, and mac and cheese. I was quite pleased with the quality of food here. The crispy pork belly features pickled watermelon and a sweet and spicy tamarind sauce. I never would have thought that pork belly tastes soo good with watermelon! Go figure. And I'm a BIG fan of shell-fish so the carlsbad mussels was a hit for me. I loved the flavor of the tomato basil sauce.. The mussels were so good soaked in it. I also liked the garlic bread to dip in the extra sauce so much, I asked for more and the server kindly obliged. The mac and cheese was also good - it was interesting in that they put some chips mixed with bacon and black truffle oil.

Now onto the drink menu! Most bars are pretty cut & dry making super boring artificial fruity syrup concoctions. Those types of drinks usually make me feel naseous like I'm shooting down some nasty bad cold medicine. However, the drinks here uses fresh seasonal ingredients which I deeply appreciate. Their drinks do rotate and change around. They have "Pre-prohibition" cocktails, which features the stiffer old-fashion drinks. I like my drinks more sweet and current, so I opted to order from the post-prohibition cocktails menu. My fave is the watermelon mojito - I love my alky with a splash of the sweet light refreshing fruit.

The crowd is mid 20's - 30's, Valley types with a good mix of guys and gals. There are petite tables & booths, and a bar with some big screens. It's an excellent place to relax and hag-out after the daily 9 to 5 drill with coworkers and buddies.

Here I experienced the most incredible bread pudding I have ever eaten.  I spent honestly what felt like 20 minutes in absolutely bliss eating this dessert.  I shared a little, but even being full after some almost equally amazing short ribs, I wanted most of it for myself.

It made me want to come back here and explore more of the menu, although I doubt I could come back without ordering that bread pudding again.

Impressive beer and wine lists, knowledgeable servers, great ambiance.  It's a super relaxed environment and big dining space, but the casual, pub appearance means the fare is a pleasant surprise with obvious attention to texture, flavor, and presentation.

If I spent more time in the Valley, I would definitely be back here more often.

The deviled eggs were good, not great. Maybe great for a restaurant. Beer was good. Service was good but slow; like they needed one more person. Out waiter was nice. Too much of the house sauce on everything. Pretzel was good with the beer. I'll go and try it again.  Also, sign on the door, but no sign on the building.  If I hadn't been to the previous incarnation of the bar, or didn't live in the neighborhood, I'd miss it.  It's not a problem...just be aware.  This is like a 3-Plus stars place.

Jackie was a delightful server. Great drink and food suggestions. Everyone enjoyed the evening and the atmosphere. But since I'm a designer I have to share my only negative observation... As I sat facing the white tiled wall in the main room I commented to my friend that it looked like a bathroom wall, and not an appropriate look for a dining area. Then when I effectually ventured to the bathroom, my off-the-cuff observation became an eerily disturbing reality as the bathroom looked exactly the same as the dining area. Ok strange to even point out this trivial observation but come on, do I really want to feel like I'm eating in your bathroom!? No. You lost a star, but not my business.
Go for the drinks, go for the food, or go for the service, but don't expect a tasteful atmosphere. They fall short in the cool tavern-like design department compared to other local spots.
    Salute!

I do love this place, but it's a bit hard to find if you've never been there.  The Local Peasant is located behind a bus stop in an unmarked building on Ventura Blvd, and for whatever reason, google maps can't pinpoint or comprehend it's location.  There is valet parking ($4), or if you're lucky enough you can catch a meter.

I've wandered down here enough times to enjoy the ambient.  It always seems busy in there no matter what time you go, so the noise level is at a 10+.  The tables are pushed close to each other, and in the back room some are family style meaning:  Expect to sit with strangers.

The drinks are pretty decent, last night my friend  wanted muddled jalapenos in her Moscow Mule, and they accommodated that.  The food is simple but well thought out.  Their hamburger is amazing, but it's the thick cut Jenga tower of fries that keep me coming back!

I would have to say that this is more "$$$," less "$$."  If you're ordering at least two drinks with your meal, you'd at least get to about 30-40 dollars depending on what you get.

Went here with a decent sized group for a birthday.  I'm not from the area and there's not really any signage so I had to drive around a few times before I finally stumbled on the valet stand in back.

They've got a good selection of craft beer and lots of food to choose from.  I got the portobello burger and it was delicious.  I'm not sure what beer we were drinking, the server said it wasn't on the menu, but it was a pumpkin-ish one and it was a great recommendation.  Our server was really good considering people came and went from our table all night and there were lots of people there.  I'm glad we tried this place.

I don't know if the stars just aligned perfectly that night, but everything for me was banging! (I don't even use the word banging normally!) Lol. I had the slow cooked short Short Ribs and Mac and Cheese.  The flavor in the ribs was amazing! It came with a pureed butter squash that was the perfect balance to that rich delicious flavor of the ribs.

I noticed comments about parking, however there is standard L.A valet, so that was not an issue for me.  I arrived about 9:30pm on a Friday, and waited less than 15 minutes for a table.  I will def. be back again.  I'm still thinking about it! (Yum!)

Maybe it was overhyped for me.  I thought it was ok. We started out of the mac and cheese and the bacon and eggs.  I wasn't crazy about the bacon and eggs but the other two people I was with thought they were really good.  We also had the mac and cheese was just plain not good.  But I did just make the best mac and cheese myself at home so...yeah.

For our main entree we had 2 cheeseburgers and the ribs with mashed sweet potatoes.  The ribs were really tender but could have been a lot more flavorful.  The cheeseburger was ok.  Meat seemed a bit dry despite ordering it medium rare.  The fries were too fat for my liking.

The drinks were REALLY good though and so was the service. We went on a Wednesday night and the place was PACKED just ridiculous.

I'd go back.  Curious about their brunch.

I'm leaning more towards a 3 on this one, but I'll end up giving it a 4 because it was a pretty good environment for my friends and I to hang out in for a number of hours on a Friday night.  Why the deliberation?  Unless you're going to order a big ol' round of drinks and food, they are really keen on having you stand versus sitting down.  That was the major downer/cloud over the evening, people wanting to sit down but unless there were entrees being ordered, we were given a bit of a rough time.  That was a bit irritating.

The beer selection is good, and good vibe for happy hour/going out a bit later in the evening.  I agree with the comments about the sign and this place being a bit hard to find -- walked around it myself, and felt like I was wasting a bit of time before entering this place.

However, the vibe and atmosphere, and beer selection, and a great night with friends is what redeems that 4th star.

    Not really a fan..

    The drinks were good
However I was there before the bouncer was and once he got there he put up a sign with a dress code that was not in effect until he arrived. So he came around and told me to take off my hat or leave and my friend had a Sports logo shirt and that all of a sudden wasn't allowed.. This all after 120.00 was dropped on drinks.

Then the place just got so crowded with Valley Bar Tramps that were so loud and rude and thinking the were in the Jersey Shore.

If you are going to attend, and want to enjoy it, go early before 9pm. It was nice at that time. After, its gross and they let women in and make men wait

I must thank my fellow Yelpers for describing exactly where this bar is located because across the Ralphs behind the bus stop was exactly how I spotted it. I'm not sure if they think they're too cool for a sign but I would have appreciated one. I had this place on my radar for a while but it's so rare that I'm ever in the area. I finally made my way to the valley on a Wednesday night and I was a bit underwhelmed by The Local Peasant. I would like to check it out on a weekend and see if the vibe is different but honestly I went for the food and it was good but nothing spectacular.

My friend and I shared the Bacon & Eggs (deviled eggs), they were good but I didn't taste what everyone was raving about. We also had the Peasant Burger and  actually enjoyed it. I would have probably preferred a toasted bun but other than that it was very satisfying. I chose to add some onion rings and they weren't my favorite. Too thick and crispy on some parts but mostly soggy. They do have a great selection of beer, I tried one by recommendation of our server so I'm not sure what it is called but it had a fruity and bitter taste, not bad at all.

I really like how spacious this place is, plenty of seating and there's a room towards the back that can seat larger parties. The decor is pretty cool with dark brick and wooden tables. Definitely gives off that gastropub feel and makes for a chill ambiance. The staff was friendly and I can see myself popping in again if I'm on that side of town.

A field trip to the valley!  Yay.  Hey, winding through Benedict Canyon could be fun sans the traffic, right?  Well this place is absolutely worth the trek over the hill.  This is an excellent place to visit with colleagues after work to chill out and have some fun, (very fun) food and drink!

I'm not really a beer drinker, but when in Rome... they have an excellent beer selection both on tap and bottle, a well-rounded wine list and an adorable Pre-Prohibition & Post Prohibition cocktail menu.  I of course am obsessed with St. Germaine these days, so I ordered a cocktail that featured seasonal local berries, St. Germaine, vodka, lemon and sparkling wine.   (under Post-Prohibition, just so you know)

Their menu consists of simple comfort foods... luckily since I was with a decent sized group, I got to sample many of their wonderful items.  A few favorites of mine were:

BACON & EGGS  - We actually had to order two orders since they were inhaled so quickly.  Deviled eggs which came with brown sugar-chili applewood smoked bacon.

BLUE CHEESE FRIED OLIVES - Not a huge blue cheese lover, but anything stuffed in an olive, battered and deep fried... I really shouldn't have to explain further.

SEA SALT & VINEGAR CRISPS - House made potato chips that came dusted with sea salt & a tiny spray spritzer of malt vinegar... total pub food.

MAC & CHEESE - Laced with bacon & truffle oil.

For my entrée, I ordered the PORTOBELLO MUSHROOM BURGER which was probably the best Portobello burger I've had in my life.  It was incredible.  Came with oven roasted tomatoes, fresh buffalo mozzarella, avocado, fried onion ring and drizzled with fresh pesto sauce.  All came embraced in a soft golden brioche bun, perfectly toasted.  I would trek to the valley just to order this - it's really super fabulous.

Service was great, the food was wonderful, ambience is cool industrial with a bit of warmth and you will pay valley prices.  There really is more bang for your buck in the valley!  I likey.

Bada-Boom, Bada-Bang! Not a local, not a peasant, but ladies and gents..I am a fan of this establishment. This spot keeps true to the prohibition-esque, gastropub feel, inside and out.

Food: So I went for of course, what all you fellow Yelpers recommended, the Deviled Eggs..BOOM! So good. These bad boys come with this amazing honey bacon on top that is just LOADED with flavor. It really makes this homestyle appetizer stand out in a pub. Moved onto the Pork Belly and Shredded BBQ Beef dishes...Also some really great trys. The Pork Belly was fried, so be prepared for a different pork belly taste.

Beer: ...YES! great selection of microbrews and old fashioned cocktails. Had to ol' Matilda Belgian Ale..Whistle wet, mission accomplished!

Ambiance: As I mentioned to start, this place has a great feel to it. Even the people you come across are good peeps. We sat in the back room where there is communal seating and had some pretty cool conversations with other foodies!

My 2 friends and I came here last weekend for a drink and some food after spending all day shopping.
I ordered a drink that I can't remember the name but was delicious. It had jalapenos in it, blueberry, rum maybe? It was really good, weak, but good.

We decided to go with the cheese plate which was yummy. The cheeses come on top of a paper that has all of their names which was helpful. We then ordered the chopped salad and the mini sliders.
The salad was delicious! We shared it and there was plenty for all 3.
The sliders were probably some of the best I've ever had. I wish there were more than just 4!!!
Anyway, great food, good drinks... I'll be coming back

WARNING!!!! Look for the bus stop across the street from the Ralph's. That non-descript door? Yeah, that's what you're looking for. Parking wasn't an issue on the night I went, but it was also a Wednesday night at 10p. I can see this being a problem on a prime drinking night.

This bar is huge! Spacey, spacey, spacey! The decor was pretty cool, wooden tables, dark lighting. We were a tad bit confused when we first walked in because all the tables said reserved. We asked around and found we have to check in with a hostess first.

I'd read great reviews about the Peasant Burger so I proceeded to order. I was not as impressed as I'd hoped. It's a solid burger, but it wasn't worth the price tag ($14, I think). It came with fries or onion rings and a pickle.

I also split the deviled eggs with my friend, I think they're called Bacon and Eggs. Yeah, they're deviled eggs. I was expecting... I don't know what I was expecting, but based on the reviews I wouldn't have assumed simple deviled eggs. I didn't get the religious experience I'd anticipated :/

They have a great selection of draft beers. If only it weren't in the Valley, I'd love to try out their beer menu. I'll definitely stop in if I'm ever in the Valley again.

NOTE: we almost weren't able to order because the kitchen seems to close at 10:30 or 11p. Not sure but our waiter was really good at getting our order in ASAP.

No more shank of lamb.  Only served during the winter.  Man.. so sad.  Culinary suicide.

I used to recommend this place to my friends, but I think all the good reviews they have been getting, this establishment thinks that they can get away treating their customers badly, decent food and meh cocktails.  The only good thing is their beer selection.

The dishes are ok, nothing to praise.  The deviled eggs are just as good at La Grand Orange in Pasadena for 1/2 the price.  The truffle mac & cheese is much tastier at Blair's in Silverlake.  Old fashioned's ... Cole's in downtown.  I do like the fries though.

First off, their cocktails always taste inconsistent.   My old-fashioned tasted like ice water+alot of bitters+dash of bourbon. My husband had to explain to the bartender how to make it for me, and to muddle in some sugar, orange, and (maraschino) cherries.  The waiter said, we have to charge you extra for the cherries.  (WOW! You're joking? For a $10 drink?)

Second, I had a reservation and wanted to get seated at a bigger table to accommodate more people.  I asked one of the employees in an olive green shirt with the patches - their uniforms - who was folding napkins on one of the DINING tables, if we can get seated at a bigger table.  He responded, "NO, SINCE YOU ARE NOT ORDERING FOOD AND YOU ARE JUST DRINKING." (Buddy, we ordered food from the bar.  Plus, what's the difference you are getting our money anyways?!?!)  So I had half of my party at bar and the other half at the dining area even though the dining area had plenty of  EMPTY tables!

Third, since only a few people were ordering food at the dining area, the waitress was just plaid rude to us.  She barely came to our table and in the rare times that she did, she didn't even ask me once what I wanted to order.  My husband (it was his birthday) had to walk over to the BAR and order.  When she saw that, she said, "OH, YOU CAN ORDER FROM ME."  (WOW, really?  Now you say something.)

Finally, when we closed out our tab and were ready to leave, the manager chased us down and said, "YOU DIDN'T LEAVE YOUR WAITRESS A TIP."  We kept explaining, "YES WE DID.  WE LEFT A CASH TIP."  The waitress apparently didn't see the cash tip we left in the folder thingy.  Despite the horrendous service we had, my friends and were not as disrespectful as she was to us.  WE STILL LEFT A TIP lady!  The manager apologized, but not the waitress.

Sadly, I won't be recommending this place and they won't be getting my business anymore .

The Local Peasant is fabulous. Has a great vibe and makes me feel like I'm not so much in Sherman Oaks but back in Chicago. It has a big city feeling. Our waitress was great and was knowledgable of everything on the menu. Make sure you get the peanut butter sauce with their delusions chocolate brownie !

    It gets very crowded.

Hard to spot because there really is no sign. It's small and inconspicuous.

They have two areas for seating. Larger groups go to the back where it's bench seating. A little uncomfortable.. but it is a gastropub, so it does promote a sense of community.

Their Bloody Mary WAS good. I ordered it thanks to a fellow Yelper's review. The Truffle Mac & Cheese was awesome. I didn't want to share with anyone, but I guess that would've made me look like an asshole since everyone else was sharing. I tried some of their deviled eggs, which... yeah, they're good... but people, they're really JUST deviled eggs. They're NOT that difficult. Their crispy pork belly was good though. Nice balance of flavors.

If I stopped there, this review would've been a 4... but, their entrees ruined it. I got their Peasant Burger, which was okay. It wasn't bad, but it wasn't stellar. Definitely not as good as their drinks or appies. My boyfriend got the fish and chips, which were battered well, but too much. I don't know, it's hard to impress me with fish and chips. It's just fried fish and chips, no?

Anyways, service was a bit shoddy because they were so damn busy, but no stars off for that. I understand. The minus star is because of their entree foods. Just did not appeal to me in any way. I'll still go back for the appies, and maybe just maybe their entrees will impress next time... but til then... THREE STARS!

The first time I was here was about a year ago when my friend had a few people meet up here for her small birthday drinking session and I've enjoyed coming here since.

Good service, and a nice selection of beer.
I love trying new beers and their relatively big selection is pretty cool for trying a new one each time.
Their food sucks though. I tried pretty much everything on the menu and I was disappointed with each item, not only disappointed but pretty grossed out to be honest.
But you dont come to a bar for bar food, cmon. You come for the friends and the drinks...and sometimes to get away from specific people, and even to drink because of some specific people.

Yes, it would be nice if they had better food, but I cant really complain about a local bar that gets the job done.

Great place to watch a game (and not feel like a jackass frat guy, as the TVs don't overtake the bar), easy to find a table, really great beer list, delicious burger (try the Peasant with the cracked egg), reasonable prices and really good salads. (Parking is kind of a crapshoot, and valet is $4, which I'm still not used to in the Valley).

This place is so close to four or five stars I can almost taste it! (Thank you, I'm here all week. Try the veal.) And I will be trying the Local Peasant again. First the good ...

My wife's Peasant burger was top notch. As was my kid's french toast. The homemade sea salt and vinegar crisps were so good we practically vacuumed them up with our mouths, as we did with the Peasant pretzel. The beer selection is great and heavy with local-ish offerings (Stone, for example) and harder to find bottles (Old Peculiar, a long-time favorite, is on the list). The pub itself is tastefully spartan, and the staff is first rate.

So many great things about this place. And yet ...

I rarely order fish & chips. Why? Because it's surprisingly difficult to get right. With good fish & chips, the batter is crisp all the way through to the fish, without the fish being tough. Bad fish & chips can take all manner of forms, the worst of these being where there is a thin layer of sliminess between the crisp, outer part of the batter and the fish. You know ... when after taking a bit, the fish feels free to just slip on out.

My fish had no problem just slipping on out. I couldn't finish it. Rats.

In all fairness, everything else was perfect, which leads me to believe I just got a bad plate. Yes, I will be going back; everything but the fish was too good to not to give the Local Peasant another shake. Perhaps I'll try the pizza this time.

Came here a few weeks ago with some friends for drinks

I tried the Deviled Eggs with bacon and they were freaking amazing.  Seriously.  I'm not normally a fan but these were fantastic.  Everyone else gets them, so why shouldn't you??  We also tried the fries, which were really good (and hot), but you don't get too many of them.  We ordered three of them I think.

I also tried my currently favorite beer here, Chimay.  Its a Belgian beer, and goes from anywhere from 7-9% on the alcohol content.  Since I was being de-virginized with this new Chimay experience, I took down around seven (7) before the dizziness hit me.  I should have knew something was up when they handed me the beer in a smaller goblet instead of the standard pint glass. Watch out with those new beers, is all I have to say.

Great food, good beer and fun ambiance.  If I'm visiting my friend again we'll make another go here.

Went here for the first time ever over the weekend for a pal's going away party. Drove by it a million times and never ever would have thought to go in; there's no goddamn sign out front!

It turned out to be pretty cool. It had an old time-y vibe to it, like an old English tavern from a Charles Dickens novel. It just looks like everyone in there should have a giant chicken leg on their plate in front of them, and have big metal beer stein's. Like everyone should be singing some kind of olde English tune, and waving their drinks around in the air as they sing.

Good drinks, super friendly waiters, and our table was right  next to Michael Chiklis', and that's always rad. I didn't eat, but the food looked ridiculous. Might have to come back for dinner.

i dug it, cool little spot.

The experience with the hostess and seating was below average. When we walked in, who knew we had to go to the hostess to reserve a seat? She wasn't around (they should make it obvioius), so we assumed it was open seating. The waiter was nice enough to check in and ask if we've been helped, but the hostess didn't put our names down when she came to us and acted rude when someone in our party (who just came) asked to place an order, INSISTING she was the HOSTESS and a WAITER (pointed over to one) can help us.

It was apparently too loud for the waiter to get the simple order we had right, and he seemed to be irritable-not sure if it was the seating situation as well.

The stars are for the drink selection and interior deco. The place is overpriced and overrated in terms of food. Had the deviled eggs and they were too creamy.

I don't doubt it was just an unlucky straw of the hat, but the hostess was rude, irritable, and didn't make the experience pleasant, insisting our group couldn't sit down- but since the crowds died, she never came back to annoy us.

Parking - you can do valet (no thanks) or Ralphs across the st (free)

I'm probably gonna sound like a dick for saying this but, MEH.

Started with a Bloody Mary, OMG, BEST Bloody Mary! Not too spicy to the point that it burns my throat, so savory and I could have drank 4 of them. Watch out, it's a creeper!

Also got the S & V chips. I loved that the vinegar came in a spray bottle and a little shaker of chili powder came, but I wish the chips were a bit thicker and actually warm. The chips were kinda like Lays.

The Peasant Burger was just MEH. I think it was because some people that I've talked to raved about the burger. I can compare this to how really insecure girls talking about guys and how hot they are but it's as if they don't even know what they want or like so they think it's good. Well honey, this isn't my first rodeo. It's MEH. The bun was cold and too soft, and the onions were caramelized but undercooked in my opinion.

We ordered a Black and Tan while eating and not only did it take over 20 minutes for the guy to change out a keg, but he fucked the pouring up.

I'll come back to try it again, and hopefully make a better review.

We frequent this place when we need to get out and have a drink and get away from the kids.  We are definitely on the older side of the crowd (I'm 33) but it's a good time and they have good beer and food.

    What more do you need?

Seriously solid place, esp for the valley. Most spots in the valley are filled with annoying 21 year olds that try really hard to look cool. But not the crowd in this place. The vibes here are great.
Great crowd which lead to some interesting conversations with some interesting people.
The waitresses here are usually very friendly, they check up on you every now and then without being too annoying.
    Kudos to this place.
