8 reviews for The King & I Thai Cuisine
All Reviews
One of my favourite places to eat when I'm in town is the King and I.
I was in Thailand a few years back and took a Thai cooking course for 2 days at Gap House in Chaing Mai. Had a great time and learnt to make and eat some pretty awesome food!!! I became an instant fan of the flavours of Thailand...Lemongrass, Chili, Thai Basil, Galanga, Kaffir Lime, Coconut, Papaya and the list goes on and on and on...yummm!!!!!!!!
It's great to find a place that serves authentic tasting Thai food and has excellent and friendly service.
Last night we went to town and ordered a ton of food and 2 bottles of the Pinot Grigio. We started off with the Coconut Chicken Drummettes, stuffed and deep fried with Sweet Chili Sauce and the Tom Yam Kung (Lemongrass, shrimp, mushroom soup). Both were fantastically dee-lish!!!!!!!! We also ordered the Buddha's Feast veggies, Crispy Tofu with Spicy Cucumber Salad, the Seafood Nest, Cashew Chicken and Pork in Green Curry. Everything was hot, perfectly spiced, tasty and served at a great pace. I like my Thai on the hot side so if you're like me all you need to do is ask for more spice and they will be more than willing to help you out!
Our dishes were cleared after each course which was a real nice touch!!! Bonus points.....hello!!!!
I took some pics of the food to get all your taste buds working.
During our meal, Mel, the owner came by our table a few times to make sure we were doing fine. It is nice to see an owner making rounds and checking up on his guests......very nice!!!
If you're in Calgary I would definitely recommend the King and I for lunch or dinner. It is a little on the pricey side but the food, decor and service are definitely worth it.
I've went to King & I a few times for lunch. I've heard the King's Feast is quite good, but since I was with my company I didn't get a chance to try.
I ordered curry plates on a few different occasions and the quality of the food is quite good. It has very flavorful, authentic ingredients.
The services is quick and the manager usually makes an effort to drop by the tables and say Hi.
It's pricey. The size of the dishes always leaves something to be desired, and most people I went with had to go get some sort of fast food after the meal because they were still hungry. I've heard the Kings Feast is worth getting though.
I was at The King & I the other day for a Christmas lunch provided by my new employers. They had arranged for us to enjoy a spread of several different items on the menu. While not my first experience with Thai food, it was my first experience with The King & I.
The food was phenomenal. We were able to try different chicken, beef, and shrimp dishes along with some vegetable items. In particular, I would recommend the Tiger Prawn Curry and Galanga Cashew Chicken, both excellent. The deserts were also well prepared and I enjoyed a chocolate dish that literally melted in my mouth. One of our companions did not eat beef, and so our server went to great lengths to ensure he knew what he could and could not eat.
Furthermore, the service was excellent. Our server thoroughly explained everything that was being served and went to great lengths to ensure we were happy with everything. Additionally, the atmosphere was amazing and everyone enjoyed the afternoon immensely.
I sure do love good Thai food and at The King & I, they sure do know how to make it right!
I've been a few times, and I've never had a bad experience. The service is always impeccable, the decor is undeniable, and the food is irresistable.
Although you'd rarely have room for dessert, I HIGHLY recommend trying their coconut ice cream. Seriously, Ben & Jerry's has got NOTHING on them!
Personally, I prefer the savory flavour of classic Indian food. I've never been a big fan of the fusion of sweet and sour that is common to many native Thai dishes. However, the King and I is beautiful.
In a warm atmosphere, and with staff that offer sincere kindness to all their patrons, they serve some of the most delicious Thai food in the city. This place is usually busy and the head guy, Mel is always there to greet his special customers by name.
I've gone here many times, tried many dishes...the seafood is some of the best around. Mark my words.
Amazing Thai food. A little on the pricy side, but well worth it.
Listed in: Great Dining
Food was OK but not great. Dishes were not that spicy and strangely very sweet. Service was nice but kitchen took a long time. Very nice inside. This is a pretty upscale Thai place.
The King and I was the opposite of what make Thai cooking one of my favorite cuisines in the world. Thai food should be sweet, spicy, and flavorful. I would not have used any of the adjectives to describe the meal I ate. The words I would use would be bland and boring. I guess I am off to find better Thai food in Calgary.
