I don't usually go to this restaurant because it is really expensive; I only get to go a few times a year. However, the food is incredible! This time, I went with my mom and a friend. As usual, both the service and the food was spectacular! One of my favourites is the prime rib; it is always cooked to perfection. On the side were creamy mashed potatoes. To finish off, they have awesome desserts, such as their Billy Miner pie, which is ice cream with a cookie crust! The ice cream is soft and so is the crust. Amazingly, the ice cream does not melt quickly at all. It is one of my favourite restaurants to go to because I always know what to expect.

This franchise location of the Keg is really hit and miss. Generally Keg Restaurant's are expensive and with this you would expect great quality. This location fails to meet those standards. You tend to wait forever for your meal and when it comes out, it is either cold or super hot from sitting on the hot plate. Their cuts of meat are good but they could improve their prime rib by ensuring that you don't get a slab of fat.
Service is okay but like the food quality, it's rather hit and miss. There is a difference between be sincere about service and just wanting a nice tip. Many of them disappear after they take your order and don't come around until you want to leave.
Unfortunately this Keg is like all the others, with the exception of a few, in terms of the decor. It's relatively bland and super dark. Bring out the cellphones because this is only way you can read the menu. -

Sitting down with family I realized, that I've sat in almost every seat in this restaurant over the years. Wow, have I come here that often or has it been that long?
In the past, I've had terrible service, terrible food and I've also had the positive opposite as well. So on average, it came out as average.
Tonight was about great Prime Rib, an average Steak Oscar and a mixed up salad with not quite the freshest greens in the bowl, but it was still decent. I ate my mums salad. The Ceasar salad was good. I'm sure they get excellent rotation of romaine and thus the greens for the Ceasar was crisp, vibrant and tasty fresh.
Service was decent with an attentive yet quirky waiter. Loved his facial expressions. He seemed to have something on his mind at all times. He must've been busy.
So tonight it was a good affair after all. Keg style.
**Vegetarians can also eat here too! -

My family and I used to go to the Burnaby location by Still Creek Drive but the Richmond location is now more convenient for us. I either get the prime rib or the filet mignon with a baked potato or twice baked potato. The steaks are pretty good. I'm not sure if anyone has noticed this but my family and I seem to think the servings at this location are slightly more generous than in Burnaby. The size of a small prime rib here is about the same size as a medium in Burnaby. What a deal! The only thing I don't like about the dishes is that they usually serve it with fried onions that taste like oily ick stuff.
Today, I tried the mini passion brulée and it was served in an espresso-sized cup. It was done just right. Just the perfect size after a big dinner too.
When we go here, the servers are usually pretty friendly and attentive. The only thing I don't really like about the restaurant is how dark it is. It's a tad cold inside too but I guess it's good for summer. -

This property is one of the "traditional" Kegs; un-renovated compared to the downtown locations. The restaurant is easy to access from the freeway and there's plenty of free parking.
Food was solid, standard steaks and prime rib. Had the the steak dinner with all the fixin's-the potato was jacked!
I was quite disappointed by the lack of short skirts the previous poster posted about. Their skirts were too far below their butts. I was expecting some prime roast ;) -

I have always had a soft spot for the Keg. I like their vibe and steakhouse style basic food. I always leave full and usually satisfied. Back in the day, I would regularly go down the street and head to the Thurlow location downtown for lunch.
I love prime rib. I hate how there are three sizes to choose from: small, regular, and "Keg" sized and each portion is only a few dollars more than the next. My dining parter said she wanted some prime rib too so I decided to order the largest Keg size. And boy, was it ever large. It was down right massive. It sure tasty though and I finished the whole thing (sans one eight of it) pretty quickly. I ordered it medium and pink throughout. I like the basic but hearty mashed potatoes and onion strings. It was a solid meal.
My friend went vegetarian style and had the spinach salad and trio sampler of steamed asparagus, sautéed mushrooms, and sweet potato fries. It all looked large portioned and filling. She had no complaints except for being full throughout the night.
Like I said, I like the Keg. It's nothing all that fancy but sure is comfortable. You know what you are getting and it is good placy for meaty dishes. The chain has created a good dining and lounge vibe with a consistant product and service. I am a fan of their prime rib. -

Everytime I travel up to Canada, I have to hit up a Keg steakhouse..
My absolute favorite on the menu is the Baseball steak..The most they will cook it is medium rare, so its nice and rare on the inside yet the outside has a nice crunch to it.. Wedge salad is also quite nice and washing it all down with a Molson canadian while watching hockey at the bar cant be beat! -

Every year my coworkers and I like to spoil ourselves silly during the Xmas season. What better way to reward ourselves than to have steak. For lunch!
This location is only open during lunch for the Xmas season, so we always make the most of this oppurtunity. We make reservations ahead of time, because it can actually get quite busy. We've always enjoyed this place, especially when we come for company dinners; they are always great at accomodating large groups.
We were greeted, and seated promptly at a booth. Our waitress greets us and takes our drink order. I was so tempted to order their Miami Haze martini (it's really good!), but decided against it.
They have a special 'holiday' menu, which is just a few extra options of steaks, nothing too special. Their lunch menu is exactly the same as the dinner menu. I order my regular prime rib, with garlic mashed potatoes, done medium.
We were given a fresh loaf of sourdough bread, with butter. Our food doesn't take too long to arrive, which is perfect.
My steak was perfectly done-just the way I like it. I cut into it,not too rare, not too cooked, it was exactly medium.I garnish each bite sized piece with horseradish, and savour each bite. Delicious. My mashed potatoes is smooth, and not too salty. I almost couldn't finish my steak. This was lunchtime, afterall. But it was just too good just to waste it, so I cleared the whole plate.
Service is great here, our waitress made sure that our drinks were always filled, and she came to check on us a couple of times.
Prime rib in our stomachs and an hour later, we were all happy patrons and went back to work, happily. This lunch made my week! -

Who's in for a huge slab of meat that's slightly (and for some people, not at all) cooked with the au jus flowing down towards the mountain of creamy mashed potatoes (or the baked potato topped with green onions, huge slop of sour cream and sprinkled with cheddar cheese)?
I am.
The best thing about the Keg in Richmond is that it has a private parking lot free of charge. But it usually gets full during the dinner rush and you have to stalk people that just came out of the door of the restaurant, frantically trying to use your Jedi mind skills to see if 1) They're actually leaving and/or 2)You can get their car spot if another crafty driver hadn't slyly positioned their car near the spot already, just ready to park in when the car gets out. Though there is no valet service, there is occasionally a guy (it may be a girl sometimes, but of all the times I've been there, it was a guy) in a hot orange reflective jacket who is suppose to help manage the parking lot (i.e. help you find a spot, tell you when the parking lot is full so you can carefully choose your camping spot...etc.).
Enough about parking, on to the food.
The Keg does not accept reservations, so the best time to go would be from their opening time (at around 5pm I think?) to 6pm. After 6pm, you're most likely to be looking at a wait from 20 minutes to an hour, and sometimes to the ridiculous extreme of up to 2.5 hours.
Small Prime Rib (comes with mashed/baked potato with fried onion things, au jus and horseradish), medium rare for me...almost always. This choice on the menu has never failed me. For me, even a size small is pretty big, I can barely finish everything on it. For those of you with an enormous appetite for an enormous slab of meat, ask the waiter/waitress for the "hidden size". In other words, a step up from the "Keg size", the largest size on the menu....you're looking at a 24oz. steak. I had the rare experience of watching someone devour that beast 3 times so far (not the same person).
Appetizers are always delicious and decent in portion (one portion can be shared amongst 3 people). Now here's my recent food love interest: Yam fries...The yam fries here are the best so far from what I've tried: Solid and crispy.
Anywhere with yam fries is a +25*.
Good steakhouse overall, but if I just wanted yam fries, it's not the place to go, especially when 90% of its menu is full of....guess what? Steak.
*Why 25? It's based on my point system, if you really want to know, you can ask.Listed in: Yam Fries Quest

All dark and lots of wood and leather, very manly. I like.
Food was around 3-3.5 stars, the ambiance, cleanliness, service was also around 3-3.5 stars.
Though our server made three errors, he was still a good server anid was sincerely apologetic each time.
We learned ice tea in Canada is sweetened already. When I lived in Van I never realized that because I never ordered iced tea. So our server told us that when he brought it over and gladly took it back and brought us hot tea when my husband turned down sweetened iced tea. Forgot the hot water the second time round.
I ordered the salmon with tangy mayo dish (something like that) and requested it well done due to being with child. It came out a little undercooked in the center because our server forgot to put the request in. He offered to take it back, I declined profusely as I was sure it was ok to eat. It was, btw, very delicious.
Lastly, our server completely forgot about our salads so he brought it out after our entrees arrived. We all laughed it off. It seemed like he only had three tables or so to wait on but he just seemed a little flustered. Maybe too many tourists all month?
All in all, the food was good (especially my dish), but not great. Maybe steak and sides are more the norm here?
Our server took off both our salads from our bill as a gesture of his errors. However, my husband felt bad so he tipped as if we were charged for the salads. No need to punish the kid when he didn't intentionally want to mess up our orders. Nice server, I hope he's not usually so flustered. -

Food-wise, it was great. Especially the calamari dipping sauce! The sauce that was on the calamari itself was normal sweet chili, but the dipping sauce was garlic and some kind of non-thick black sauce (soy? Worcestershire?). We kept it to dip the steak in. Yum.
They had a special crab festival going on, and I chose a steak with a mushroom/crab mixture on top. That was pretty good, but I think the normal New York steak my husband got was better.
We also got to pick the kind of side potato, and garlic mashed was awesome!
The cocktail I got... I don't remember the name and I can't find out online... was yellowy orange and had apricot liqueur, among other things. It tasted like mango, though that wasn't one of the ingredients!
So, the food was great. I'm not a big meat eater, but steak is good once in a while. 4.5 stars.
What prevents me from giving it that is:
- The waitresses wore short skirts that just covered the bum. Sorry... did I miss something? I thought keg was expensive so I expected it to be classy. At least Hapa waitresses wear short shorts, and Cactus waitresses have shorter-than-knee-but-still-respectable skirts.
- The lady at the front told us we had a 20 minute wait. She told people coming after us that they could start at the bar/lounge while they were waiting for the table, and even order food there. She didn't give us that option...? -

Sometimes looking for a good steak in Richmond can be extremely difficult given that the majority of the businesses here are Asian.
The Keg always provides a certain level of consistency and pricing isn't as high as a specialty steakhouse. Parking here is sufficient making the trek to it stress free.
Service is prompt and cordial with the food always arriving at the table as asked for (Medium, Rare, Well-done, Potatoes on the side, etc)
Unfortunately since it is one of the few places to go to for steak in the city, it's almost always busy when you go for dinner. -

I like the Dinner combo which for me includes the Prime Rib and house salad with blue cheese dressing...yumm. Beef good as usual. With a glass of Keg size Red Wine and I'm a happy camper

I hadn't been to a Keg for years because I didn't feel they were serving good value any longer. So I thought it was time to see if anything had changed. It's become even worse if that's possible.
I should know better than to order specials but I went for the prime rib and seafood special with bernaise or hollandaise sauce-not sure which. After almost a 1 hr wait-about to leave when offered salad comps, the food arrived overcooked and the sauce was right out of a package. The beef was 1/4 fat and rubbery. Mashed potatoes were runny and salty and broccoli inedible rubber. The only one happy at the table was the person who got the new york although he asked for med well and got med rare but was so starved he ate it anyway fearing another lengthy wait if he sent it back. May be a good thing because he was surprised how much he liked a rarer steak than he normally ordered. The waiter was great and clearly embarrassed about both the food and the wait and brought us a huge piece of something very sweet to share for dessert.
Anyway, that's it for me and the Keg. -

I went there recently on a Thursday night around 9:00. The Keg was still pretty crowded and lively. I have been to other Kegs in Canada, so the decor and atmosphere is what I have experienced at others. (Dark decor with music playing in the background). We were seated promptly but it took a few minutes for our waiter to stop by. We were disappointed to find out that our first choice in appetizers Tempura Snap Peas and Asparagus was not available. Instead we ordered the fried Calamari. The Fried Calamari came out pretty quickly and was lightly battered and was very good. I ordered the Filet Mignon Tenderloin wrapped in applewood smoked bacon and my friend ordered a Prime Rib. After ordered the waiter let us know that they were out of Prime Rib. Instead she ordered a sirloin. It took quite a while for our steaks to arrive. Considering the restaurant started to thin out and not too many people arrived after us, we suspected that maybe something was amiss in the kitchen. Once we got our steaks, they were cooked to perfection (except mine was missing the applewood smoked bacon). Not sure how that could have been missed in the kitchen; maybe my order was taken down incorrectly. In any case, the waiter did my the proper adjustment on the tab. Though service was slow and a few of our choices were not available, I would still recommend this Keg; hopefully they can work out some things so it can be up to the standards of others in their chain.
