Was here for a Year in Review special tonight. Too funny! Literally in tears and gasping for air from laughing many a' times. Also really like how you can reserve seats when purchasing tickets online now.

I came here to see the 7:30pm show on Thursday night. I didn't have high expectations because previous improv shows I went to were lackluster at best (though I really enjoy Who's Line is it Anyway?).
When I walked in, I was excited to see that alumni of this improv group include Ryan Stiles and Colin Mochrie. With alumni like that, my expectations were immediately raised.
Tickets for the 7:30pm show are $11.25 for an adult, or $8.75 if you're a student or senior. If you want to see the next show in the evening, the ticket will only cost you $5. The seating is assigned, but there really isn't a bad seat in the theater. There are two rows of tables at the front, then regular audience seating. We were seated at a table.
Drinks will cost between $5-8 if you want something alcoholic, which is reasonable for a show. You can't eat anything in the theater, but you're welcome to bring in food and eat at the bar or on the patio.
As for the show, I can honestly say I enjoyed it. Suggestions taken from the audience were used for all of the major plot points. The actors brought up one guy from the audience, and he was absolutely hilarious and definitely on par with the actors. The scenes moved quickly, and there was no awkward silences or lack of chemistry.
Overall, if you're looking for a cheap date night, I definitely recommend coming here. I'll be coming back to watch another show in the future. If you're having dinner the same night you go, take your ticket or stub to the Dockside Restaurant and save 15% off of your bill (according to an ad I saw in the theater). -

Lots of laughs, great place. Got it through a groupon, and would recommend going back regardless.
Might benefit with some snacks of some sort, but it might be determintal to the improv actors on stage with the noise of someone munching away.
If you want to make the most of the night, go in and pay the extra to extend your show experience.
love the improv! -

Wish I could give a 4.5. I loved this place, it probably helped that I was a high school drama nerd. The actors were fun and funny. The drinks were pricey and the experience was great. The audience as a whole wasn't a very good one, but Elf Esteem and Crazy Nice Hot tub kept on trucking through. They used all sorts of different motifs and genres, they showed quirkiness and range. It's the best way to end your trip to Granville Island. If you're planning on taking me out, this is the place to go.

The last memory I have of improv involves Junior High School a lot of awkward silences. Luckily, this experience was nothing like those times!
Entering the space, you wouldn't think much of it. Glass doors, a box office and a non descript door leading to the theatre. But inside, the front row tables are comfy and there's ample theatre seating. On weekdays, there's a 730 show for $9.50 and a 9pm show (that you can buy for an additional 5 with your 7:30 stub).
The show was hiliarous. Audience participation is more group like than get up on stage while we humiliate you, so no need to worry about embarrassing yourself. The actors are pretty good and definitely quick on their feet!
I wouldn't say no to someone who asked me on a date here! They're waiting on their liquor license for weekdays, but weekends you can gulp down draft beer and spirits, while looking out at the harbour. Their view is fantastic from the bar. Go early or stay for both shows so you get maximum viewing time there! -

What a great spot! Located right at the entrance of Granville Island, the brand new improv centre could be my favorite venue on the island. They have a great bar, deck space overlooking the harbour, and a large theatre. They could use some food or snacks though.
they have a great selection of shows during the week. Just pick and night and go!Listed in: All things Granville Island

Fun! Improv! at a new location within Granville Island-A brand new 190-theatre within a space. We came here Saturday night for their TheatreSports improv show.
The show starts at 10pm, tickets are $19. The place is licensed, and they have a bar serving beers and mixed drinks. This place is so new that it still smells like paint.
There are 2 teams of 3 people, in which they go through a series of rounds and in the end, the one with the most points wins. They base their 'skits' by accepting ideas and suggestions, and then they do some on the spot thinking, and improvisation begins.
Some were hilarious, some were just ok. Overall, it was great laughs. It's amazing what these actors can think up on the spot.
There's also a later show, for an extra $5, which is then a 2 on 2 improv team, and apparently, that one has no rules, so it can get even more interesting?
For $19, I thought it was a little pricey for what I got. Shows on the weekdays and tickets on Thursdays are half price. Would definitely go back then! -

A Japanese Wayne Brady, white water rafting giveaways, and a spectacular bar with a view. What's there not to love?
The last time I went to the Improv Centre was a few years ago when there were further north on Granville Island. Their new digs at the entrance to Granville Island are quite impressive.
Thursday's show is Theatre Sports. Two team of 3 battle it out for points as judged by 3 audience members. Sitting in the front I was scared that I'd be dragged up on stage, but luckily that didn't happen.
I can't recall much of the acts as some were pretty random. However, the performers were solid, my mouth definitely hurt from laughing! And yes, the Japanese Wayne Brady. What an all star. One of my favorite bits was when his two team mates fed him random things to sing about, like mashed potatoes.
Audience participation really gets you into the performance more. If you love the stage, this is the place. Heck you could take home white water rafting tix!
I'll definitely return, especially when they get their weeknight liquor license! -

Really really funny! It was rookie night, $8 gets you 2 hours of laughs and lots of audience participation. Drinks were a bit spendy, but that's to be expected of any club theses days I guess.

new location near Sammy J's is definitely nicer than the old theatre to watch theatre sports in!
watched a 10pm show on a friday.. about $19 a ticket
funny as always.. sometimes it does depend on the actors working that show as well as the audience and volunteers you get that participate
had some good (drunk) ones so it was a pretty funny show!
one downer is all the shameless plugs and rules and blah blah blah the host keeps announcing.. stick with the improv and let it be!
they also have a bar so u can get drinks before and at intermission. something different to check out than ur typical movie.. i'd recommend it!
