Review from Robin S.
Edmonton, AB
The Hydeaway is sort of an offshoot of the Jekyll and Hyde pub, geared towards all-ages patrons and hosting a variety of events and concerts every night of the week. I've been by twice lately to see friends play and while this spot on the ground level (at least on its north side...) of a downtown hotel might not be the most ideal venue, as the sound is, well... it travels surprisingly well but gets soaked up by the room at the same time... it's amazing that Edmonton's even got a place like this.
The Hydeaway serves drinks to those of age, and provides a special menu that includes hot dog recipes imported from Calgary's Tubby Dog and a few other youth-friendly items. The regular menu from Jekyll and Hyde is also available; try the veggie burger and fries, or the grilled cheese.
If you're bored of watching bands, wander over to the back corner and kick back on beanbag chairs for some rounds of old-school Nintendo. They've got a good selection of games including Smash TV, my usual pick. There's also a selection of old board games including the '70s Pac Man game I'd always been curious about, some excellent novels to read through, and Floam (remember?) to play with if you're willing to touch a bacteria-ridden sculpting toy that's been in the hands of who-knows-how-many Hydeaway patrons.
The folks who work here are super nice and are doing a great job. Check out the Hydeaway, their events calendar is on their website. It's tough for an all-ages venue to stay open and they're worthy of your support!Listed in: Live Music in Edmonton

Review from Paula K.
The Hydeaway fills an important need in Edmonton's art scene as a space for all ages to come together and enjoy art and music shows. The place is large enough for a decent crowd and the people who work there are very friendly and professional. The menu contains a lot of weird and wacky items such as hot dogs with all kinds of bizarre toppings (peanut butter, jelly, and breakfast cereal, anyone?) but also serves from the menu of the Jekyll and Hyde Pub downstairs - which has pretty decent pub grub like burgers and various kinds of finger foods. Alcohol is served if you show ID, and includes bottled and draft beers. The place is a little hard to find - it is accessible by going into the Jekyll and Hyde then going upstairs, but since minors are not allowed in the pub, your best bet is to enter on ground level at the southeast point of the parking lot (there is also a hostel in there, so don't be confused by the signage).
