Are you tired of forking out cash for lattes just so you can get Wi-Fi for your laptop? Is your home office just a little too close to, well, all the comforts (and distractions) of home? Want a place to meet with the team (or make an impression with a big announcement)?
Then perhaps the solution you're seeking is the Hub Halifax. Officially it's defined as a "co-working" space -which basically means it's flexible enough to meet just about any need you might have.
It's a beautiful space - lots of light and nary a cubicle in sight. Renovated with major attention to environmental concerns both aesthetic and practical, it features eco-conscious just-about-everything (from the cleaning supplies, to actual towels in the two lovely bathrooms, to default double-sided printing).
And speaking of printing - you can do that at the Hub - wirelessly. Wireless Internet, photocopying, and scan to email are all available. Multiple workstations let you take in the view of Barrington Street (or the funky exposed brick and revolving art exhibit) or just hunker down and get things done. There is even a kitchen space with fair trade coffee in the pot and a selection of teas so you can get your caffeine on and then get back to work.
They also have two meeting rooms that can be configured to your requirements, and the entire main space can be rented during off-hours.
Open Monday to Friday from 8:30 to 6:00, there is always a "Hub Host" in the house to help, answer questions, or give you a tour.
Membership is available at different levels - ranging from a hourly/daily drop-in rate to unlimited and multi-user options.
Hub Hosts are happy to show off the space, so stop by and say hello ... and then say goodbye to the java joint improv office! -

I think the Hub is kind of dreamy. It's a gorgeous second-floor space in a nice building on downtown Barrington Street that seems designed to meet the needs of creative, innovative professionals of all kinds. Co-working space at its finest!
There are several meeting rooms up for bookings including one that could comfortably fit 20 people or so if I had to guess, and workstations in the main room that allow a freelancer or work-from-homer to come in on a regular basis.
The best part though? The Hub staff seem to be prepared for just about anything. They have bins of technology cords to make sure you're never left looking stupid in front of an audience with the wrong LCD hook-up. And that, my friends, is priceless.
The only thing that occasionally irks me is that you can walk into the space during the day and get a bit of a weird vibe from the folks actually working in the space. It sort of feels like you've walked directly into someone's office (which, I guess you actually are) but not necessarily in a good way. -

I've been to a couple parties and meetings at the Hub, and I've got to say I'm in love with the space. It's been a great location for the types of events I've gone for, and should I ever become a work-from-home person, I can totally see taking advantage of their work stations. I love that there are different membership levels as well as drop in rates per day and per hour.
