This little piggy loving girl went to market, more specifically, the Honey Glazed Ham Company and got me a hog of a beautiful kind to highlight the food feastival known as Thanksgiving. This weekend it's hog time on 'da Beaver (I live on Beaver Avenue, ok...no bad jokes cause I've heard 'em all).
The Honey Glazed Ham Company has been smoking and glazing ham for the past quarter century and anyone who really loves ham knows these guys can smoke 'em with the best of them. The hams are smoked and double glazed with honey that forms a sweet, candied, crystallized crust of honey around that leg of pork. Big Daddy Jr. and his crew know their pork business and when I stopped to pick up my ham, which I smartly pre-ordered via email, the customers where lined up out the door. I usually order the smallest ham, with the bone in, that I can get since I don't have a big crew to feed. That little piggy will set me back about $45.00, which in my opinion, is a great buy.
I do absolutely nothing in terms of preparation, other than put the ham on to a platter, put some trimmings around it and bring it to room temperature. It is spiral cut to the bone so serving it is a breeze. Afterwards I use the ham bone to make traditional ham bone split pea soup. My brother in law puts his ham on the 'cue and brings the glaze and the fat to a crackling stage which is also scrumptious. I'm just not as patient as him to stand over the grill, basting and turning. Either way, this ham is a total win win.
Finally, a big thank you to Deanna, my sista FARC, who bestowed 4 jars of the amazing Kozlik's Canadian mustard on me as a birthday gift (only the best mustard in the whole damn world!) because this is the perfect mustard condiment to put on the side. Let the eating begin!Listed in: Where There's…
