Review from Robin M.
Home Depot is as Home Depot does. Big. Clunky. Filled with tacky accessories (what, you thought this was only a building-supply chain?).
This is not a place that any serious craftsperson would come for supplies -- not the finer ones anyway -- rather, this is the place one might come if they need a new shower head, or crappy lumber for an odd household job, or maybe even a rinky-dink playhouse for the kid. But this is no fine-finishing kind of store.
So why do I come here? Glue guns, paint brushes, sandpaper, garden supplies, and those awesome paint samples -- those things are pretty much perfect for any number of crafts (yes, I said crafts). For real, check my closet -- I got huns of those colourful paper chips.
So, while the orange aproned folks may not be as useful as they once were (years and years ago when they were all retired handypeople of sorts), I still like it here. I still like just fine. -

I'm giving this review specifically for my last experience. I often enjoy going to this Home Depot and have no problems .... however....
The last time I went in, I was hoping to pick up some potting soil, maybe some plants and some planters but nothing was set in stone.
It's a good thing too because it looked in there like someone had gone through on a mission and taken the good version of everything in the garden depot. Slim pickings wouldn't even begin to explain how picked through everything was.
When I went to find a staff member to help me figure out where what I needed was it was like searching for Waldo. It wasn't possible.
After wandering aimlessly for a while I stumbled on what I think I needed, put it in my basket and proceeded to check out. Which really just added insult to injury. The line was long and mixed up and the cashiers weren't paying attention so people were budging all over the place and just going through. It was kinda insulting.
I know this was a one time experience, it's normally not bad in there, but it certainly annoyed me enough to Yelp about it.Comment from Nicki A. of The Home Depot Canada 5/4/2012

My actual Home Depot experience was decent and I was going to give it another high ranking, but this time, after I tried their online survey, I dropped it to a 2 star. Maybe even a 1 star if I could. However, the store itself, I can't really blame. The store staff did good and I loved the cashier. I was able to find what I needed and got in and out of there pretty quickly albeit with a slight rise in BP due to all that fast walking I did trying to get from one end to another!
I needed the exercise, but I didn't need to waste time in such a big store. (This is why sometimes it's good to go to a smaller store like Home Hardware or even Canadian Tire).
What did bother me was two-fold.
Their online survey at http://www.homedepot.c... started like a regular opinion / poll but towards the end, it asked about my ethnicity and how they grouped some groups in one class and others in another etc. I was about to write in the "other" section: Human from Planet Earth. Do they want to know how many terrorists shop there to make their home made bombs? Sheesh! C'mon. I'm sorry, but that bothered me. I"m not a terrorist, but after that, I was a bit sensitive to what they were asking for.
I didn't finish the review. It was just absolute poppycock.
Secondly, I went to their regular website to find a way to complain without having to talk to someone. I mean, by the time I am able to talk to someone tomorrow, my fury would have already abated and then what's the sense in complaining about it?
So in a way, Two separate reviews, one impacted the other in a profound way and it shouldn't have, but did.
The store did great. Corporately, online? Not so good.Listed in: Romancing the Stone.

Review from Louise G.
While my honey and I like to jokingly call this place "Home Despot" and act like we'd rather be going anywhere but here when we need something, the truth is we actually like this place.
We just finished a long drawn out renovation of our kitchen that started when we moved in, some time ago. One task remained incomplete which meant all the the work we'd done up until that point was part of an unfinished kitchen. Over the New Years break we decided to buckle down and finish it.
Several trips here for things like finishing nails, moulding, glue, cleaners, more moulding, wall plug and faceplate, screws, caulking etc etc etc.
During one trip we were weaving up and down aisles and ran into the same orange-apron-ed staff member who offered assistance. On the third or fourth occasion we were glad to see him as we now did need some help. He was beyond helpful, he was also very interesting and we all ended up having a lovely little chat.
Bottom line is my kitchen is now beautifully finished (THANK YOU HONEY) and also Thank You Home Depot for having what I need.Listed in: 365-Day Challenge - Review A…

Le Depot de Home
Not sure why but when I think Home Depot I always switch it around french style. No this has nothing to do with my review but thought I would share nonetheless.
Now for my review... Le Depot de Home is solid and we always find what we're looking for. Today it was water filters and clock timers. As per usual, there were many staff available to guide us through the maze and today must have been special because there were two, count them, TWO people to greet us as we entered!
I have to say, that might have resulted in one less star mainly because unless you're a restaurant or my cat I see no purpose for "greeters" anywhere...The Gap, The Depot de Home, American Eagle. No, i don't find it "welcoming", i find it disingenuous at best and creepy at worst. So get rid of it people. We aren't showing up here to make new friends, and if we were, do you really want to encourage that!?!? -

Bleh - Home Depot - you used to be so much better.
This HD used to be 24/7 - in my manic moments of creativity in the middle of the night, I loved strolling in here in the wee hours of the morning and picking up my tools and supplies. You know you're living in a golden age of humanity when you can buy a funnel, stainless steel bolts, a nail gun, bolt cutters and toilet seat at 4AM. Feel the urge to fabricate a license plate mount or rehouse an air intake because you can't sleep? Roll on down to Home Depot.
On my last visit (during normal business hours) - I was dismayed to learned they sold the vinyl tubing I needed in 20 ft packs - I only need 6 ft. I went to Rona instead. However, I would have gladly paid the price premium for the pleasure of purchasing piping during pitch dark... Peter Piper picked a pair of pickled peppers.
And then there's the parking lot. Dear Mr. Toyota Corolla - do you really want to be held liable when your trunk full of unmarked protruding MDF board inevitably escapes the 'iron clutch' of haphazardly secured bungee rope and causes a motor vehicle accident? You troglodyte.
Coming here during daywalker hours, I get that same feeling when I look at a grounded Concorde: human progress has been regressing.
Home Depot - instead of allowing me to pick up the materials I need, you've reduced me to spewing forth inane rants online in the dead of night.Listed in: Shots Fired, Get Your Grown Man On

I thought my mission would be a simple one...all I needed was dirt...how complicated could it be to buy dirt..right?? Well it was much complicated then I thought...but thankfully the helpful staff of Home Depot was there to help!
I was wondering aimlessly through the garden department looking at all the types of soil...like I said I had NO idea that there was like 20 different kinds...I must have looked pretty confused because out of the corner of my eye I caught a glimpse of an orange smock coming towards me.
Her- "what are you planting"??
Me - "oh..umm..just some herbs and some wild grasses..maybe some succulents"?
Her - "well then, you are going to need a few types of soil. You will defiantly need something more organic and natural for the herbs, since you will be eating them. The grasses can have something pretty basic, as can the succulents. Actually, depending on what you are plants the succulents in, you could use just small rocks. What types of fertilizer are you using?? Mushrooms are great...."
me- "ummm..ok"..*blink *blink
her - "how about you tell me your budget, the planter sizes and I will bring you what you need"
me - "perfect, awesome..thank you"
And so..off she went and in a flash I had a cart full of soil and all the all my planting needs. She shared a lot of useful tips on planting and care for all my plants to ensure there best care.
I now have thriving happy plants thanks to her!Listed in: Super Great Service.

So this place used to be open 24 hours? It's like a ghost town in here. This place is empty at 8pm on a Tuedsay, I can't imagine 3am on a Saturday night.
D had to get some keys cut. I am normally happy with the key cutting here, as opposed to that other place I stubbornly keep going to. No, I don't have that many keys to cut, but when I do, I stupidly go to the place where the woman can't tell if the key she cut is right because she admits she can't see that well. Thanks. So we waited a while for a guy to show up to the key cutting booth. When the workerbee came, another customer followed him and continued to ask him questions. Then the distraught customer threw whatever he was holding into a bin of other things. Okay. -

Oh, Home Depot, Terminal Ave... how I am disappointed in thee. But you are too convenient to leave, so I will give you two stars and just keep hoping that next time I go in, there will be someone... anyone... who can help me with my home improvement needs.
In the meantime I will wander the aisles aimlessly for hours looking for an employee. -

The funniest thing about this Home Depot is that everyone brings their dog. In the States, I never ever saw a dog at HD. So now my husband and I play a game to guess how many dogs. One time I guessed high by saying 6 dogs, and we actually saw 8! (He had only guessed 3). Every single time... It's not like there's a pet store next door, so I don't understand.
This store is big and has all the items you would expect of it. (I have not found a secret dog treat aisle.) Nice garden area too. -

This made me feel at home in two ways: I always used to go to The Home Depot in the States. And going there, I found the stuff to make my home feel like a home.
These stores are huge. And finding stuff isn't easy. There also are few employees walking around to help customers.
But you can't beat the selection and prices at Home Depot. -

My boyfriend and I came in to get some wood to fix my broken IKEA bed frame. We found the wood, but it took forever to find someone to help us. The first guy my boyfriend found actually worked in the paint section, but he pointed us to a spot in the store where we could cut the wood to the length we wanted. That was great, but we also needed to trim the width! We ended up finding the wood guy who was really helpful -- he cut the board into two usable pieces for us, so now I have a spare part in case we break the bed again. And the price was right! Just over $10 with tax. Much better than buying a new bed frame.

The service here is terrible. The orange-aproned staff wander around aimlessly unless you have a question. Then they're busy. Too busy to help you, too busy to get someone who can help you. If you do find someone who isn't too busy it's likely they'll have no idea what you're talking about anyway. Oh - and I ate a fast-food burger for the first time in many years at Harvey's and was reminded why I don't eat fast food burgers. Bland, blah, blech!
