Review from Johnny H.

The food is excellent with exquisite and sophisticated taste. Creative in its flavor and presentation, the ingredients come together harmoniously with classy elegance. The decor and atmosphere fit the experience very well. Very open feel with large windows and high ceilings. The scenery is great outside as well.
Tables are a bit small, but it is not like you will be served many large plates. The restaurant is generally quiet, and tables are spaced out enough to give privacy. Servers are attentive and very kind, and listen to your needs.
The restaurant has 3-course and a-la-carte menus. I haven't tried a-la-carte menu, but it is 3-course meal that keeps me going back. It comes with free glass of wine, and wine pairing can be had for extra charge. -

We've been coming to this restaurant every year with our young (not so young now) kids and have always enjoyed the experience and the warm welcome.
The food is always good. The menu changes from season to season are creative.
As one of the very first winery restuarants in the area, it continues to be our benchmark. -

Was there for a big birthday dinner in the lower room with a group of 14. Food was OK but nothing special given the price tag. Main server consistently forgot to present the wines (that were not printed on the custom bday tasting menu either) and had to be reminded. I ordered fish instead of the beef that was served to the other guests but my wine was not re-matched so I was served Cab Sauvignon with Halibut! Service was generally mediocre and the staff did not work well together. The sighs, rolling of the eyes, exasperated glances of the wait people to each others really bothered me. I'm happy not to pay attention to things like these when the menu is $30, but it's most un-welcomed in such a supposedly high end place.
I'd say pass... -

Out of all the cruisin' and boozin' we did around Niagara on the Lake, this place was the best! And to say this is the best is a feat because a lot of them look the same!
We parked and started to walk towards the winery and an employee greeted us outside, because they offered wine tastings outside. What a great idea! It was a beautiful day out and she was so friendly to boot!
We walked into the winery and it was clean, well organized and extremely bright and airy. It was incredibly welcoming, not only in environment, but the employees! We tried a wine flight, which cost $7 to try three different kinds of wine. You're able to pick from white, red, blush and ice wines.
The employee who was helping us on our tasting was incredibly knowledgeable and answered any questions we had. I tried the red and the hubs tried the white. Ice wines are out for me, they taste like pure sugar and cost as much as pure gold! I thought the reds were delicious. I loved the cab but opted for the kicky Trius Merlot.
Out of all the wineries up there, this one stands alone. I urge you to try this one as it stands out above the rest!Listed in: Niagara Falls Vaca

I had the great fortune to be able to attend the Cellar Dinner Series introducing the Trius red wines. It was a great experience with great food and wine. Unfortunately, having dinner in the cellar meant that you were freezing while you dined. I wish there was a way for it to be warmer. As well they had a long wooden table which was romantic looking but I found that sitting across from my date it was too great a distance during such an intimate dinner. But if you have a few friends it might be better to have such a spread for dinner. It is definitely romantic but maybe not worth the high price tag that went with it.

Because of a murder, I ate here.
True story. So my wife and I had reservations at another eatery last Saturday and because the Skyway Bridge had to be closed for an investigation, I had to cancel our original destination and plan something different.
Now, I'd been to the Hillebrand restaurant previously but that was a couple years ago and it was nothing to brag about. However, this lunch was one of the better meals I've had in a while.
Seated on the patio with three Massive umbrellas, you got a good view of some of the grapevines on the property, without fainting from the oppressive heat. There is also a covered area closer to the pathway they have set aside with a big communal table for larger groups/tours/tastings.
You'll notice tours of the winery taking place to the side of the patio and after your meal I recommend taking a little walk towards the vines to take in the size of the place and see the beautiful restaurant.

I went with a 3-Course lunch ($40) and the wine pairing (for an extra $24). Some may say: "$64 for lunch?!". Yup, and worth the price. I went with Beets, Beef and Berries (or Icewine Beets, Wellington County Beef and Niagara Icewine Strawberries). Pictures included.
The beets starter was the best of the lot. Beetroot sorbet? Incredible! A cold but altogether brilliant plate. Wifey had a sort of Frisée salad, that included waxed beans + foie gras and side of their awesome fries.
Next was the cap steak and pot pie. The slaw that came with the plate was a little drowned by the steak juice, but was a great side otherwise. The steak and icewine onion jam fell apart with only a fork and the pot pie was almost too cute to eat. Almost. Again, the hand cut fries appeared but as an accompaniment to my meal. Wifey took her chances and poached these too.
Last up was the icewine strawberries with mascarpone and little flaky pastry. Such a great finish. Not too heavy with the cream and not too boozy with the icewine.
The wine pairings were phenomenal. I believe they were all Trius, the beets came with a fruity Rosé which was great for the weather. The beef came with a light Red (cab sauv) which was really light but nice for red meat. The berries came with a Cab Franc icewine and was beautiful. Not too sweet or syrupy.
Staff were knowledgeable, quick and personable.
Brilliant. -

I was lucky enough to visit Hillebrand Winery and was surprised with a reservation at the Hillebrand Winery Restaurant. Needless to say anything that I will write here will be a gross understatement of how amazing it was.
We were greeted promptly and waited just a few minutes for our table to be ready. We chose to sit outside (it was a beautiful memorial day weekend)
Once seated we were promptly greeted by a busser who asked what type of water we'd prefer. Right after that our waiter, arrived at our table explaining to us their a la carte menu as well as their tasting menu.
We selected to order from the a la carte menu. We ordered 2 appetizers (we had the forged tame and wild mushroom dish of field greens, corned beef tongue, a duck egg, all atop a piece of sourdough toast with a delicious ricotta spread and the dish is finished off with a red wine reduction. As well as the "summer pizza" which featured a toast triangle spread with a delicious ricotta compote, wrapped in fresh prosciutto, a halved cherry tomato, sprinkled with fresh goat cheese and drizzled with a red wine reduction. Both were Amazing!,
For our two main dishes we ordered; Candied pecan Lamb Shank and a delectable loin. Stone pounded polenta drizzled with a tomato Ice Wine jam and accompanied with bloomdale spinach. This dish was to DIE for! We also ordered Tomato stuffed chicken breast. Chicken boudin, fingerling potato slice, field greens, Ice Wine sauerkraut, duck liver croquet, finished off with a poached green onion. Equally delicious!!! Mouth Watering!
We finished off our dining experience with an exquisite dessert of Espresso Creme Brulee; This piece of heaven included a delectable and generous portion of Espresso Creme Brulee, a piece of almond shortbread atop chocolate quenelle with vanilla bean spread and micro mint leaves. We also had the Michel Cluizel Chocolate which included a delicate brownie, caramel maralumi-chocolate, decorated with a raspberry cremeaux and crystalized pistachios. Again... there are no words for this symphony of flavors!
Our meal was accompanied by a wonderful sweet white wine that our waiter suggested to us; Hillebrand Muscat 2009.
I highly suggest The Hillebrand Winery Restaurant to anyone in the Niagara on the Lake area interested in a wonderful dining experience who would love to take a palatal adventure. All of your senses will benefit from this experience!Listed in: Tummy Fillers, Swirl, Sniff & Taste

This is a beautiful winery and a upscale restaurant. The staff are very polite and mostly attentive, and the wine selection is great.
However, a restaurant is mostly about food, and my wife and I found this to be a miss. We tried the Fresh Cow's Milk Buratta which was bland and uninspiring, as well as the Chilled Tomato Soup, which was well structured and delicious. We also tried the Halibut, which was excellent, and the Rib Eye Steak, which was a confused mess and unappetizing. Finally, their cheese selection was great.
This hit and miss pattern did them no favours at the prices they were charging. Others have had much better luck, but it was not a great overall experience for us. Sorry! -

My husband and I stayed in Niagara-on-the-Lake and ate here on our second anniversary. We both wanted to do a wine pairing dinner (we were in wine county, after all), and after extensive research, we settled on Hillebrand because of the teriffic web reviews.
We had an 8pm reservation on a Friday and we practically had the place to ourselves (I suspect this is due to the fact that many NOTL visitors are older and probably eat earlier). The atmosphere is elegant and romantic, but still felt very contemporary and not too stuffy. My only disappointment was that it was too cold to sit outside -the patio looked as if it would have been absolutely lovely.
We both did the the 3 course wine pairing dinner and we each had an appetizer, an entree, and a dessert. We agreed to each choose 3 different things so we could pass plates back and forth and try more things. All 6 courses that we tried were absolutley delicious. The ingredients were fresh and seasonal, and the flavors were exciting without being over the top. The wine pairings were spot on. Our knowledgable waiter even recommended a couple wine substitions and we took him up on his suggestions to find that they were really good ones.
My only complaint is that when we were ready to leave, it took forever for them to bring our bill. Not a dealbreaker- I would definitely go back. -

STUNNING FIND IN NOTL - COULD STAND SHOULDER TO SHOULDER WITH THE BEST OF NEW YORK CITY!
Me and hubby visited NOTL for a wine tasting trip and celebrated our 5th anniversary by having dinner at the Hillebrand Winery Restaurant. Read great things about this winery who happens to be the sister to the great Peller Estates. Went all out and did the 7 course tasting menu with wine pairings. One word = wonderful
First Course = Leek and potato soup. Velvet smooth.
Second course = Halibut over a sausage and bean hash. I could have eaten a pound of the hash.
Third course = Seared scallop and blood sausage ravioli. Worked in one harmonious bite.
Fourth course = BEST OF THE NIGHT: Fois Gras and chicken liver mousse in a sugar cone with ice wine marinated dried cherry. Fatty sweet savory smooth magic - amazing bite of food
Fifth course = Beef Tenderloin and Lobster Cannelloni over a bed of mushroom lamb ragu. Now (shockingly) I don't care for lobster so I preferred the amazing ragu and beef.
Sixth course = cheese course with beet sorbet. Amazing Subtle Feta and beet sorbet joined together for a rounded bite without too much salt.
Seven course = Pound cake with vanilla flan rhubarb sorbet and marinated rhubarb. Lovely sweet ending to a huge beautiful meal.
Now thee best part of the meal was the perfect wine pairing. The staff made amazing pairings that were so complimentary to the food - spot on!
I was really surprised to find such a gem in a seemingly tiny town. I'm so glad we made this our special event date night with Hillebrand! Would totally come here again! -

Sister winery to Peller Estates, this winery serves an awesome meal and the wine tastings are a lot of fun. I enjoyed the Trius line of red wines.
We made a stop here as part of the IceWine Festival on Jan 23rd. It was a beautiful day, and we had a blast. -

It's a family tradition of ours to go to the Hillebrand Winery Restaurant every year around Christmas time. It's a beautiful drive out to Niagara-on-the-Lake and we go early to walk around town and browse the shops for last-minute Christmas gifts. The winery restaurant at Hillebrand was the first of its kind in the district, and it serves a stunning spread of food with exquisite wine pairings. The chef has worked in prestigious places in Europe and Vancouver I've had the most succulent seared scallops of my life here. In fact, I won't order them anywhere else now. Their sirloin is cooked to perfection, and their vegetables are fresh and seasonal. Service here is impeccable, and they often serve complimentary ice wine. Last year we were poured a mix of ice wine and champagne that was lovely. Afterwards, we always head over to the Hillebrand winery shop to purchase our favourite wines. It would not be a Christmas without a trip to wine country.
