Yet another update?! Yes, haha.
I had a wonderful pedi by Andy yesterday! She's very thorough & gives a great leg/foot massage! The new pedicure patio is gorgeous, the tile work on the seating area, etc. I loved it! I also loved that they use vegan nail polish (Spa Ritual, great brand!) and products. Would be great for my vegan friends, so I definitely plan to tell them & get them in!
Thanks again, Andy! I'll be seeing you in the future! :)Listed in: My Neighborhood (OB & Point…, My San Diego favorites, Best of OB, Getting Pretty (in San Diego)

I personally LOVED this spa! I purchased a yelp deal and took my Mom here for Mother's Day weekend. When we arrived they directed us to the cute little waiting area where they brought us our choice of mimosa or sparkling cider and some nice chocolates. They closed the door so we could sit and chat privately for about 20 minutes and then our massage therapists came to get us.
I was lucky to get Renee Kelleher! If you go to The Hidden Spa, I recommend asking for Renee. She was very knowledgable and really listened to both what I told her and what my body was telling her. She went above and beyond by doing some deep tissue work to help get my hips re-aligned. When the massage was over I found myself wishing we could all go out and spend the day together. I can't remember what my Mom's therapist's name was, but she came out wobbling because she had never been so relaxed! I promise she only had one mimosa! HAHA. -

I absolutely fell in love with this place. I will definitely be going back and I hope yelp does another deal with them soon!
Jet was a great masseuse and Tiffany did a pretty good job on my eyebrows. A good price for brow wax and better job than Asian nail salons. Overall I was very pleased especially with the natural/organic products they have there. I hope to go back soon since all their prices are pretty standard and for the service and massage skill - that's a great deal!
Thanks hidden spa and yelp! -

I love this spa! I first found it 2 years ago when I was a maid of honor in my best friend's wedding. Part of her bachelorette party was stopping here in the morning. It was just me, her and 2 bridesmaids. We did the 3's a party service. It was a great package. for $99 a person, it included:
champagne upon arrival
40 minute massage
Mini Facial
Hand & Foot Scrub
Gourmet dessert
From that time, I have received emails on specials they would currently have. Me and my husband decided to do a couple's massage on Valentine's Day last year. The package was $160 (I think) for an hour massage in the same room. My husband had Jet and she did an amazing deep tissue massage on him. I had Korrin who I felt had the perfect massage skills. Our package included a red rose and dessert. We tipped well since they did an excellent job and paid about $200 for the entire package.
This year's Valentine's, we did the same exact thing and came here with another coupon that they sent me. I am always a satisfied customer here. I highly recommend this place. -

I took my husband here for a couples massage. The couples room was very cozy. It was wonderful! Both of us loved our massages. Everyone was very friendly. It even included foot scrubs, mimosas, and choice of dessert. I will make a point to visit everytime I come into town.

I'm so upset with you Hidden Day Spa. I am so upset.
I have been coming to this spa for several years. I have recommended it to dozens of people who have started coming here as well. I have bought multiple Yelp Deals, I have had my Bachelorette party here, given Gift Certificates as Wedding Presents and Thank You Gifts, brought anyone visiting me here as a "Let's get that Jet Lag rubbed out of you" outing, and I have even bought 4 of their $300 Spa Packages for myself to use because I come here so often (and bring my husband with me every time). Not only do I get amazing massages here, but I also get my eyebrows waxed and a few other services, of which they are constantly expanding. So all in all I would consider myself more than just an occasional customer.
After all that (in my opinion) incredible loyalty I am looking for a new spot. Every time, and I am not kidding you, every time I come in they ask my name, look in the computer, check me in and then ask, "Have you been with us before?" Um, excuse me? You just looked in the computer. I made an appointment with you. I requested a specific masseuse. Does it not say anything about me in that system of yours? Yes, I have been coming here for nearly 5 years. I even have mentioned it to the receptionist several times how upsetting being asked that question is. They continue to ask.
Another thing that really burns me about this whole thing is that the first time you come in, you have to fill out a form that notes your preferences. Do you like your table heated? What scents do you prefer? How hard/soft do you like your massages? etc. Yes, I like my tables heated, but the last 3 times I've been there, it hasn't been. The room has even been cold. So the last few appointments I made I specifically requested that the table be warm. Was it? No, stone cold. To make matters worse, I mentioned this to my regular masseuse, and he indicated that not only did my file not say anything like that, it didn't have anything in there about how often I had seen him, and the things he told me at my previous massage (3 weeks earlier).
You know, I can kinda understand if I hadn't been in there for 6 months. But 3 weeks? Come on now. I went to Las Vegas 3 years ago and stayed at the MGM Grand. I got a pedicure. A simple, rub my feet, paint my toenails pedicure. When I went back and checked into the Hotel the agent welcomed me back and saw that I had "Enjoyed our Spa services in the past. Would you like me to make another appointment for you?" This is a hotel that I might never have walked into for the rest of my life, yet they thanked me for something simple that happened 3 years ago? My regular, favorite, often recommended spa can't be bothered with knowing if I have been there before? Or to know immediately who I want to see or how I like my table, even after you've asked me for it?
You obviously don't value my patronage, and I'm out of here. The service offer is Pampering People. It should start from the second you pick up the phone to take my appointment and last through every second of greeting & checking me in, while I'm on the table, and after I walk out the door.Comment from Jill P. of The Hidden Spa 5/25/2012

It has always been a tradition of mine to get couples massages for Valentine's Day every year. We keep coming back because of the true professionalism and of course the relaxation.
They definitely use all the time that you pay for. The last thing I want to do is pay for a 60 minute massage and have it last for 50 mins or shorter.
What we really like is they ensure that the pressure is right for you. I was asked a couple times, and whether they're providing solid service is important to them.
If you're in OB, go here. Or if you're not in OB, make an effort and check this place out. -

I do not get what the fuss is all about for this place. Over-rated. Over-priced.
For one, it's uber-tiny and cramped. And the parking is a hassle because of Newport/OB traffic. I once got a massage here that was totally FORGETable. More recently, my sister was visiting in town and wanted to treat me to my first facial.
The random nameless oil slathering over my face while in a nearly blacked-out room, was applied by weak, lifeless fingers. When people are stressed out, anyone has seen how they use own their hands not necessarily in a delicate manner but deep and long to really rub their tension areas, so, yet again, this massage was a complete joke to me. I actually tried not cracking up during the massage, because it was just so dang lame, but tried hard to relax. No go. Other than that, I was bored and just glad it was finally over.
I had to bite my tongue when I met my sister outside. I just smiled and said that it was "nice." Then my sister in the euphoria of her manic spending spree decided to purchase a couple Dermologica skin care sample kits, one for each of us. But they were out of stock on the kind recommended for me. No big deal. Instead she pays up front for it and we were told I would get a phone call when it was back in stock.
Two weeks later and I hadn't heard anything, so I finally decide to give them a ring. Turns out it was never ordered. She tells me on the phone that she is going to place my order this week...really? Really, this week? So it was never placed?? So you guys don't carry this in stock?? Well, the one girl failed to place the order the first time, so we have to wait for the next round. It will be an additional week after that! Seriously, what a bunch of incompetent squeaky-voiced ditzes.
....And to think my sis tipped them huge $$!
I wish I could take it all back, and will never, ever return, except for my silly D-kit :o/Comment from Jill P. of The Hidden Spa 3/22/2012

I've been going here for a couple of years, and I loved it because I loved my massage therapist, Janelle. I bought a lot of Yelp deals so I could see her more frequently, but then I spaced out for a few months, and when I wanted to come back, Janelle had left to start her own company.
Between my husband and I, we've seen four different masseuses here. We agree that all are inconsistent. Some muscles get a lot of attention and it feels great, others get skipped over. We enjoy our massages, but when they are over, we decide we don't need to see that masseuse again. My last masseuse was so unfriendly I felt uncomfortable (maybe she is just shy), and my husband said his male masseuse seemed bothered to be working on another guy. I've looked at the employee roster, and we still have a couple more therapists to try (cuz we still have a couple of Yelp deals left!), but I think my Hidden Spa days may be over.
Some people like the chocolates and alcoholic beverages. Personally, I don't want to drink alcohol or eat chocolate before a massage, though I appreciate the chilled water in the waiting area. I do like how quiet and low key the place is, but have noticed quite a bit of staff turnover the last time I visited, and the focus seemed to have shifted to more esthetician sort of stuff (maybe just while I was there?). -

Wow! I have to say that the customer service at The Hidden Spa is a force to reckoned with! After posting a review about my experience, the owner contacted me because of a miscommunication about a Yelp deal I had used. Not only did the owner contact me less than 24 hours after the review was posted, she came to me with ready to use solutions to make my overall experience at her facility perfect. The owner offered to credit my account the additional $20 I spent to upgrade my Yelp deal (something I wasn't made aware of prior to the massage) or offered to refund the $20 completely. I found her solutions to be fantastic and customer friendly, reassuring me that great customer service still exists! Thank you, Jill, for going out of your way to rectify the situation so swiftly and professionally! I look forward to my next pregnancy massage at your facility, sooner than later!

I bought the massage just because of the deal I got on Yelp but the place far exceeded my expectations. They booked my appt with little notice, they were welcoming and friendly, and I like that they offered mimosas and chocolates beforehand. It was a warm environment that put me at ease and my masseuse, Alex, was awesome! It was just what I needed and I felt like a new person when I walked out of there, I'd definitely go back!

I love this place. I discovered it in 2008 around the time it had just opened & fell in love w/ Jill and her amazing hidden spa. On our first visit my then soon to be hubby had surprised me w/ a couples massage on my b-day which was just amazing. The girls there were so sweet and helpful and Jill made us feel so welcome.
My hubby and I received regular facials there for the next months to prep for our wedding. She left our skin looking so smooth and glowing and really took the time to analyze our skin.
We continue to come here over and over again because of the great services, the amazing prices and the awesome couples massage that my husband and I enjoy!! We always recommend this spa to our friends! -

Very nice little spot here hidden away in OB. I had a daily deals type discount for myself and my girlfriend, so we both went (but they wouldnt allow us to do a couple massage so we did solo's). Both of us had very nice relaxing massages, my g/f even fell asleep during hers it was so relaxing.
Was a cozy cute spot, seemed to do a lot of business there, and I'd go back again especially if i got a discount :) -

Bought the Yelp deal for me and my mom. We both really enjoyed our massages. I knocked off one star because I wish they had showers, I hate walking out feeling oily and with dirty hair, but I'm not one to turn down a scalp massage!
5 starts for Kimba. She was my masseuse and it was the perfect blend of deep tissue work on my problem areas and nice circular relaxing motions for the rest. She did an amazing job on my shoulders after I told her that they needed some work. She has nice strong hands if you want deep pressure. She is also not a chatterbox which I appreciate it.
The scalp massage was heavenly and the hot stones were amazing! I agree that getting the scrub is kind of awkward since you can't wash it off, but I enjoy the sensation of the scrub.
All in all, a fantastic massage and relaxing morning!
Also the front desk staff is extremely friendly! -

I think this would get just above average - 3.5 stars if I could give half stars. I had a Yelp deal that I bought for me and my fiance. When I bought it, I planned to use it as a V-day treat for us, and the deal with a lavender scalp massage, soothing foot scrub, and mimosas and chocolates seemed fabulous! I made sure to check the Yelp deal fine print to make sure there were no blackout dates, because it's totally understandable if a spa/massage place wants to keep the weeks before/after Valentine's Day free. No fine print with blackout dates, so I went ahead and purchased. Cut to a few weeks ago, when I tried to schedule a massage - I was not allowed to schedule between Feb. 10-19...wtf. Since it was a great deal, I wasn't too upset, but just annoyed that they didn't bother to clarify this in the fine print.
We arrived late - parking was ridiculous in OB! Just a tip, if you go and plan to drive, build in a buffer for parking. They were really great about accommodating us, and we were given forms to fill out about our preferences (knots, sore spots, etc.). I specified that I get cold really easily, and I had the most amazing heated massage chair. My masseuse was Yolanda, and she was really nice and did a good job, but nothing spectacular. My big issue was that I wish she had paid more attention to my preferences - she didn't even try to really get out any of my knots (or even ask me about them), and they were still pretty bad when I left... which isn't what you expect after leaving a 60-min massage. But other than that, it was really soothing and I practically fell asleep.
My fiance's masseuse was also pretty good, according to him. She was really friendly and they chatted the whole time. However, she also just gave him an average massage, and although it felt nice (what massage doesn't really feel good?), it was nothing to rave about. The major thing that she missed was that she didn't give him the foot scrub or lavender head massage, which was part of the deal. We didn't realize this until we were home, and I mentioned how great the head massage was and how I loved the scent... and he had no clue what I was talking about. It might be a lack of communication between the front desk (who knows what deal/package we got) and the masseuse, but either way, it was a bummer that he didn't get that stuff. We also discovered he didn't get a heated massage table, so if you're going, be sure to ask for it because it really feels amazing.
When we left, they offered us the mimosas and chocolates we'd missed when we arrived late, so that was a nice touch!Comment from Jill P. of The Hidden Spa 2/9/2012

Not really sure why this review is so hard to write. Bottom line is, if you're considering getting a massage, get your butt in here ASAPasaurus! That means pronto!
My masseuse was Korrin. I read every single review on here, looking for some hint as to what I'd gotten myself into when I made an appt with her, and there was nothing here to go on. Well, let me tell you, I was very pleasantly surprised. She was great! Do yourself a favor, and treat yourself to the awesomeness that is Korrin's hands... You won't regret it. Korrin, you're the bee's knees :)
I didn't have any issues with music skipping. I think I heard a plane once. Maybe I got the good room, or maybe they've worked on the soundproofing ? I'm not sure, all I know is that things most people were peeved about didn't seem to be issues today. -

There are certainly a lot of reviews about how amazing his place is. Unfortunately I only thought it was average.
I used a Yelp deal like a lot of people and since I live in Ocean beach I figured this would be a perfect situation. I arrived right on time so I declined the mimosa and chocolates. All I wanted was to relax and enjoy some pampering.
The building is cute as it is a converted house/apartment and it looks like one. The landscaping outside gave you a good feel as you walked in, but since it is a converted apartment, the rooms are super small and you can hear through the walls.
I had a male masseuse which I have never had before. He was very nice and paid a lot of attention to my trouble spots (I had tweaked my back two months prior and was still dealing with the residual pain from it). Unfortunately he paid so much attention to my trouble spots that he kind of skipped a lot of the other areas during the massage. He also talked through most of it as well. The deal that I had included hot stones, lavender hair treatment and salt scrub for my hands and feet. I kept waiting for the hot stone (since I had never experienced it before and was really looing forward to it), but it never came. When I mentioned it (or lack of it) he told me he had forgot until just then, so instead he made the towel he applied at the end of the massage really hot. Umm...not really what I was looking for and not a suitable substitution in my mind.
So again I know a lot of these reviewers are praising The Hidden Spa, but unfortunately for me I just thought it was average. OB has a lot of other places that offer spa treatments and I think I'll try them out first before returning here. -

The Hidden Spa is a little gem of OB! I purchased a great deal on Yelp for an hour massage. It included hot stones, lavender hair treatment and salt scrub for my hands and feet for...$35! They gave me a mimosa and chocolates while I was waiting as well. It was arguably one of the best massages I've had and an overall relaxing experience.
For a great spa, they are reasonably priced and provide good service. I'm definitely going back for another treatment! -

I've been here several times with 3 different masseuses, and they have all been good. I like the guys more because they give stronger massages, but I just need it deep...what can I say??
I used a Yelp coupon for this one and it included some chocolates and a Mimosa before...nice touch. Even though this deal included the hot stones which I' ve never tried, we didn't have enough time because I needed a lot of work on my neck since I have a pinched nerve. I had Bryon this time, and he took some extra minutes with me since he didn't have anyone after me. He really hit a lot of good spots.
Kevin is another good masseuse here. Beautiful inside and hey, it's in OB, so you get to have the beach right down the street. -

Let me start by saying this place is great! I bought a Yelp deal for myself and my husband for a one hour massage with a few extra perks. From the moment we walked in I had a good feeling about the place. The receptionist was very warm and friendly and the decor in the spa is really nice- relaxing, upscale, cozy. My husband and I waited on a comfy couch tucked away in a dimly lit corner and were given mimosas to sip while we waited for our massages. Nice:) Kevin did my massage and it was wonderful- I highly recommend. My husband had a massage with Andrea. He's had plenty of massages and said Andrea is the best he's had by far. As picky as he is that says a lot! Superb service from the moment we walked in and out of this world massages. The Hidden Spa is a wonderful gem tucked away in OB. We loved it!
We will definitely be returning. -

Great staff, as always tried pushing their services and products. The atmosphere was ok, small, doesn't entirely give you the "spa" feeling when you walk in, the "relaxing/waiting" room was not as private as I'm use too. Massage was good but I definetly had better for around the same price

I've been here twice now and I really like the Hidden Spa. It has reasonable prices for what you're getting, which is always fantastic. Korrin, my masseuse, was amazing. She told me what she was going to do at the beginning of the massage and then executed it beautifully. I told her I had a sore hip and that my whole leg ached because of it. She spent just the right amount of time loosening everything up without sacrificing the entire massage time on just one leg. Loved it! I highly recommend her!
As far as the spa goes, the prices are so reasonable because there isn't a typical men's or women's area for hanging out in a steam room or anything like that. You walk in, wait in their nice waiting area, have some refreshments, go to your treatment room and that's that. If you are looking for something fancy, then this isn't your place - I mean its OB, come on! So if you want a great massage at a great place by a great masseuse, then go here. Highly recommended! -

Mimosa's, chocolate treats and a massge, oh my! I arrived about 10-15 mins early and was able to relax in the waiting area, very calming and tranquil. The receptionist was very friendly and inviting.
I ran a half marathon 2 days ago and had a lot of soreness and tight muscles that needed some special attention. Kimba knew exactly what to do and I felt she really understood my injuries. She applied just the right amount of pressure and wasn't too gentle. Foot and hand scrubs were a nice perk as well. I definetly plan on coming back for a massage and to try a facial.
* I highly recocomend this place and ask for Kimba. -

My best friend and I bought the Yelp deal - $35 for a 60 min massage, warm stones, scalp massage and hand/feet scrub. We went yesterday to use the Yelp deal (that was my 3rd time there) and it was awesome. That was the best spa deal I've ever had! I had Stacy and she did a wonderful job on my massage, she kept asking me if the pressure was good and how I was doing. I've never had a warm stone massage, so it was nice that they incorporated that for a few minutes into the massage. The scalp massage was so relaxing and I loved the lavender lotion/oil they used for the massage.
My best friend and I arrived early, so while we waited they offered us mimosas, sparking cider and tea. We also got a few chocolates to snack on (however I did not really like the chocolates). The spa is nice and clean inside and parking is usually pretty easy to find on the street (even on a Saturday afternoon). I will definitely keep going back to Hidden Spa! The normal prices are reasonable too. -

I bought a couple of yelp deals a while back for my girlfriend and I to get some massages as a Christmas gift. Finally made an appointment and used them this past week. The place was easy enough to find, very cute outside and in, makes you feel like you're in a mini jungle or something. Upon entering the aroma of mint and menthol was nice and it was very humid inside, almost like they have a humidifier running 24/7. I had woken up that day with the beginning stages of a cold so it was really nice. We were promptly greeted, offered water, tea or mimosas and a little box of chocolate. We waiting maybe 8-10 minutes before greeted by our masseuse. I got Cindy, and my girlfriend got someone else and I forget her name. The room was small and secluded. I was explained what I bought in the package by Cindy which was a 60 min Swedish massage that included a lavender scalp massage, hot stones, and an arm and foot scrub. Everything was to be put together in 60 minutes, which I didn't realize, I thought it was a massage for 60 minutes plus the extras, but she was very nice and suggested that I trade the arm scrub for extra body work which I liked. She also asked if I had any issues or injuries before she left to let me change.
The room was quiet and the music was nice, very dim lights, the bed was a bit hot, but when she entered she asked about the heat and turned it down. My massage was...eh...alright. I don't know if it was the style of massage, or just how she did it, but it really wasn't that relaxing. It was nice, but I think there was too much "pressure point" pushing that didn't really feel that good to me. The best part was the stones and the scalp massage. If you also got a package similar, I would suggest skipping all of the scrubs, and get extra time on the stones or scalp massage. My girlfriend had the exact same massage and said that her massage was amazing, and she pretty much fell asleep, so I don't know if it was because I was getting sick, or the pressure points were too much, the style of massage, or just her technique, or maybe a combination of all, but it wasn't the BEST massage, but also not the worst. Cindy was great, very attentive and had a calming persona and I would definitely give them a try again, just maybe a different style massage when I'm not on the verge of getting a cold. -

I came here to use the Yelp deal. It was supposed to come with a salt scrub. My massage guy forgot to do it, so then he wrote down on a card that I can have one "next time." Next time? My current financial situation does not allow for luxuries like massages. Next time could be five years from now. And, I don't get why he couldn't just do it. I wasn't home yet. I was still in the room and he was just like oh I forgot to do the salt scrub. Do it now then!
The massage itself was okay. My old man was getting a massage in another room, his first massage ever, and he concluded he didn't like it. He had told his massage lady that he was having problems with his lower back and right shoulder, and she pretty much ignored that.
Not the worst place ever, but meh, I've experienced better. -

My cousin and I wanted to take up their AWESOME "3's a party deal" - which you can totally use for 2 or more people.
We got:
- 40 minute facial
- 40 minute massage
- scalp massage
- arms/hands/feet scrub
.. all of this which came with a mimosa as we checked in, and a yummy chocolate dessert as we left.
Here's the lowdown:
- if its your first time here, you fill out paperwork so they know a little more about you..
- The waiting area is small and cozy.
- If you want to UPGRADE your massage to a longer session or deep tissue/hot stone, etc - be sure to do what WHEN YOU CALL TO MAKE YOUR APPOINTMENT. When I made our reservations, the person I spoke with said I could upgrade my massage when I check in.. when I came, I couldn't upgrade at all.. so we were pretty disappointed.
- there are no showers saunas, or steam rooms (FYI for those wanting scalp massages)
- the 40 minute massage was a tease. i LOVED mine and wish it lasted longer!
- the facial is one of the best facials I've ever had (Hollie was great!) - but i haven't had many. haha. I didn't get extractions or anything, just a basic facial and she thoroughly massaged my face, even my hands, shoulders, and the super tense area between my neck and shoulder.
This place doesn't have an upscale spa feel (as opposed to a hotel), but it's a remodeled home with a lot of rooms.. I personally LOVE the hotel spas, but hidden spa provides a small comfortable 'home-like' feel that hotels can't compare to. I'd definitely come back!
FYI - Parking is on the street.. but a paid lot is available to the right of it. -

This is my second visit to this wonderful retreat for a massage with Tracy. I can't say enough good things about my experience here. The environment is comfortable and calm and Tracy is amazing! She's able to pinpoint problem areas with her considerable expertise and at the same time creates an overall restful experience. Fabulous! Consider me a regular!
