A small and intimate music spot in the west end that has become one of Edmonton's top music spots. The seating is all in clear view of the stage and the sound is excellent. At the bar, there is a decent selection of beers bottled and on tap, as well as other kinds if drinks. Come early - the place fills up fast. And, there's free wifi.

Still a great atmosphere, with some great entertainment.
Unfortunately, at no fault to Haven, Pharos upstairs closed down therefore eliminating the food menu at Haven. I still recommend going to Haven, especially the 3rd Wednesday of each month for Story Slam, just make sure you eat before hand now.1 Previous Review: Show all »

I am a big fan of Haven Social Club. It's a hole in the wall place -- I almost walk past it every time I go -- but once you're through the door and down the stairs it's like you've left the grime of Stony Plain Road behind. The neighbourhood is a bit seedy, but Haven is all class.
The food is great. The drinks are good -- they have Yellowhead Lager on tap. The prices are reasonable.
I'm a big fan of the Haven Burger. My standard order at Haven is the Haven Burger and a pint of Yellowhead. It's hard to go wrong with this simple but enjoyable combination.
I usually go to Haven for Story Slam, which is on the 3rd Wednesday of the month. It also happens that Wednesdays are cheap wing night and pints of Yellowhead are on special, so it's an all around winning combination. Following the Story Slam is the Wednesday Night Jam -- local jam bands take the stage and rock out.
Wednesday nights are Haven Social Club can't be beat. If you're looking for a good place for some midweek entertainment, I highly recommend Haven Social Club.Listed in: The Places I Go Out

This place feels like the original Sidetrack, but hiding in a basement in a sketchy part of town. Great music, dimly lit and great sound. You will find indie acts from Edmonton as well as touring musicians. This month the Grapes of Wrath are doing a couple of shows. They also host story slams and open stage nights.
The bar is reasonably well stocked, which means to me they carry Guinness. Pharos Pizza has reopened in the street level spot above the Haven, and its menu is available in the bar.
Do yourself a favour and go, just park is a well-lit spot and use your street smarts when walking in the area. The door can be hard to spot, I've walked right past it more than once. -

The Haven Social Club has very quickly become one of my favourite live venues in the city.
I typically come to the Haven for Edmonton Story Slam every month, which is really a delight. The Haven is very supportive of local organizations and talent.
The wings here are pretty solid and are on special on Wednesdays. Haven also has Pharoah's Pizza right above it, and the two businesses work together to bring you great food.
The Haven reminds me of the Old Sidetrack in terms of ambience. Dimly lit, with candles on the tables and great live shows. If you haven't been to this hidden gem on Stony Plain Road, you're missing out. Come down on the third Wednesday of every month and listen to some really great stories from some really talented Edmonton writers. -

The food here is great. I got the delicious bison burger the first time and was very impressed. The Hawaiian pizza, fries, Caesar and speciality drinks were all tasty. I found the nachos to be a letdown (though gigantic!) but the rest of the family quite likes them.
Our first experience at Haven was a lot better than the second. When we saw Woodpigeon the crowd was small and the service (from the server with dark hair and arm tats) was impeccable. We left really enjoying our time. The second visit, for Jeremy Fisher and Sean McCann, was not nearly as positive. It's a pet peeve when a venue books an artist big enough that they know they can't comfortably accommodate the size of the audience. We arrived early before the doors opened to join an already huge line-up outside and by the time we got in no more tables or chairs were available. This is a problem since my parents have health limitations and they need seats and we'd expected to order food. It was surprising to us that they didn't have enough seats to at least accommodate the group that was there early or on time, not counting the hundred or more people still to arrive. None of this would have been nearly as frustrating if there was a space to stand in, but there's none. It's a very small venue.
Personally, I'm entirely used to watching concerts in uncomfortable places and some of the best venues in the city don't offer many good vantage points or anywhere near the proper amount of seating, but Haven definitely suffers from a lack of space to fit any of the overflow. There was literally nowhere to stand that didn't block either the one narrow path that goes to the back of the restaurant or the entry way to the bathroom and certain staff were very unpleasant about how they reacted to people in the way, considering most attendees were polite and considerate but had absolutely no choice. We did watch a minor scuffle erupt when two women became very heated about standing in each other's way and it became slightly physical.
We scrounged up four seats, having to fight for them, and asked the bartender if it was okay for us to squeeze in at the bar, where they already had some stools. His response was rude. We asked him where it was okay for us to have our plates so that they didn't bother them, he didn't answer but angrily moved them later when he decided they were in his way. His tip jar was next to my girlfriend's drink and customers kept throwing change in that narrowly missed her coke so we moved his straw container to the other side of where he was serving (but not the tip jar, I know not to touch a bartender's tips). This made him again, react very rudely. We had to place a couple drink orders twice because he forgot them and he often took the order of people who came long after we'd tried to order. Sometimes he'd say he'd come back to us but never did. Seemed rather inexcusable since he was 3 feet away all night. My parents attempted to be friendly with him on many occasions, but were met with silence. Even the bus boy who brought my fries was way nicer.
The local art on display is awesome and the owner seems like a great dude who's created this venue for all the right reasons. Also as far as I was told, they partnered with Pharos' Pizza to move it to the new location above Haven, to keep their food in Edmonton.
I like the Haven Social Club. I want to be able to eat their yummy food and have fun watching shows there. I hope they can up their staff standards (since so many of the other staff seem wonderful) and I hope they can figure out a better way to accommodate crowds, because I want to go back. Until then, I guess I'll only go on quieter nights. -

Thanks for providing Edmonton with a good quality venue for live music. I really enjoyed playing here last night and again, the sound (and sound man) must be working well because I can actually hear myself on stage in this place. Nice drink menu too! Go visit Haven! You might be surprised by the quality of the talent that plays this room often. It's a real gem.

I went to The Haven last night to see Rae Spoon play after a friend fell in love with her song, I'll Be A Ghost For You, and am very glad to have discovered this basement venue on my favourite, loveably-seedy strip of Stony Plain Road.
Classy, lit with candles and doubling as a gallery with a selection of original art, The Haven is a fairly new spot to see music (it apparently opened in May) and presents live performers Thursday through Saturday with a focus on folk/country/roots/indie artists.
My first experience with The Haven provided all one could really ask for from a show: attentive, open-minded audience; clean, affordable draught beer; good sound; intimate atmosphere and clean bathrooms, and I can't wait to go back. -

Last night was the second time I've gone to Haven and I liked the experience thoroughly. Haven has been open for about a year and it is a great place to see like local and touring bands in a space that's intimate and vibrant.
Located in a neighbourhood on the mend, the Haven is part of a revitalization taking place in the west-central part of the city. This venue is an attractive place for bands to perform because it's run by musicians for musicians. The earning incentive is higher than average, based on number of guests and a percentage of bar sales, with increases over 70 people. There's a really creative vibe here.
The scene is often friends of the band, their families, friends of friends, etc., but the circle is widening as more people hear about this great venue. They do everything from reggae and funk/indie/folk to jazz and alt rock. Check out the sched at http://www.thehavensoc....
