Brunch has been lovely every time Ive been here. The atmosphere is relaxed and their food is delicious. It can get crowded depending on when you get there but its not unbearable or anything. I suppose i should be glad that lots of other people want to eat at this place as well. It would be disconcerting if i was the only one eating there.

Anyways, its a nice place to have a laid back meal that will satisfy.

Small little cafe'ish place. Order at the counter get a number they bring you the food. It's good place if you can snag a table to get a bite to eat. Food is reasonable. Not a huge menu. Have been here a few times. Food is good. A handful of beers to choose from.

Tables are squeezed in next to each other but there is some counter type stool seats. Not really a destination spot for me but if in the area and want to grab a sandwich or salad I'd stop here.

The French toast is very bad. Please dont order it. The orange juice is really good but expensive. They have a steak sandwich that is worth the money and it tastes good too.

More than the food, it's the atmosphere of the place is whats good. It's got that coffee shop atmosphere but they also have beer, which is always a good thing.

For a chain this place sure doesn't feel like it.  Picture Squat & Gobble meets class.  The Grove in Marina is a bit stuffy, the newest addition in Hayes Valley is still lacking charisma and the one in the Fillmore is just right.  Tourists and city-folk alike tend to frequent this hot-spot without adding any sense of confusion or angst of why the other is in attendance.  The food is good and just what you need to get the day started or keep it going, depending on your arrival time.

With coffee always available, beer flowing regularly and food circling around you it's hard to pass up the perfect sunny day or cool winter chill.  Step inside and be taken away from the hustle and bustle that awaits outside.

My wife and I visit S.F. from Fresno often and we stop here for brunch everytime. Atmosphere is great, service is friendly and the food makes you moan w/ pleasure. It can get crowded but if you find a spot to sit it can be a fun cozy stay. Chill at a table, the couth outside if it's warm. Food is promptly brought to you and the people are friendly. Have not a bad experience and doubt I ever will.

Sandwiches are pretty delicioius, as is the tomato soup on the side, but everything is just a bit too expensive for what you're getting food-wise.

Atmosphere here is pretty groovy, and that's what you're paying for.  Nice outside seating combined with their western / hipster decor inside make the Grove a unique experience that's most certainly worth a try.

I've become a wee bit worn out from Crepevine and I'm not a big fan of the Bean Bag Cafe on Divis. That's where the Grove comes in.

Open, airy, casual and always crowded- this place delivers good food and an even better latte.

I have been to the Grove before and was fairly satisfied. The main issue I have is this place is a complete RIP OFF. The quality is there for the most part, but it's ridiculous. I honestly just spent $21 on breakfast.

I got a breakfast burrito and added chicken apple sausage. I'm pretty sure they forgot to add the meat. I also got a regular size coffee and a large orange juice. The beverages were good.

For $21, I left not completely full and satisfied. For that price, I could have gone to Squat and Gobble or Crepevine and gotten a much more balanced and satisfying breakfast.

    Hit or miss; mostly miss.

experience #1: Mr. T finds ham in his veggie breakfast burrito

experience #2: Mr. T orders grilled cheese sandwich and asks for tomatoes to be added inside; we receive grilled cheese (sans tomatoes) and a side of tomato soup.  When I brought this to the attention of the guy at the counter, he made it seem like it was our fault bc our order was complicated - huh?

experience #3: I ask if they can make an iced mocha for Mr. T with almond milk (I had the almond milk in a thermos in my hand).  Response: he doesn't drink milk? me: um... no. Him: we have soy. Me: He can't have any soy either. He rolls his eyes.

So why the 3 stars? Despite the events listed above, I personally have had an OK  time here (generally) - average food/coffee, ambience and service. Beet salad is my favorite, but I will never go out of my to order/get it, and I live only 513 feet away.

This is my favorite Grove! The one on Chestnut isn't very cool, no thanks.
What I like is the laid back ambiance here, no weird pick up scene or anything, just simple food and simple drink. They have great cookies, try them! I like their salads too.

LOVE THIS PLACE!  Gosh, with so many places in SF it's hard NOT to like anything...and then you'll find these super awesome places that you wish to give it 6 or 7 stars because it's just so awesome.  We stopped here for a late night snack and everything on the menu sounded really good; however, considering it was really late, I didn't want to order a full meal.  I know people have talked about their pies and cookies so I decided on a slice of apple cranberry pie.  To top it off, I ended up ordering a mimosa..haha..at 10pm?  Why not?  And I asked for more OJ than alcohol because I'm not so good with alcohol~

The mimosa was the perfect about of both liquids and I love how their OJ is fresh squeezed!  I really enjoyed the apple cranberry pie and I'm usually not a fan of cranberries, but this pie was delicious and I felt like I could eat another slice.  I asked them to heat it up, but I think they normally do that.  It came out warm and as if they just baked it :P nom nom.  Their service was great and the guy at the cashier was very patient with me when I was deciding what to order (took me a couple of minutes hehe)  I love how everyone in SF is so chill and so easy going...it's not too fast paced (like NY) is and it's just a friendly city to be in.  I'll definitely come back to try their other pies and for a full meal.

We went here for a birthday/farewll lunch for my friend. You order and pay for your food at the counter and a waiter brings it to you. Grab a menu when you walk in- it'll speed up the ordering process. My husband had the pot pie and I had the french toast and a side of chicken applewood smoked sausage (they were serving breakfast until 4pm.) The sausage was a little overdone, nothing too special and all they kept giving me was a dang non-serrated butter knife, so trying to cut my thick french toast was extremely difficult, I ended up not eating most of it. My husband on the other hand, cleaned his plate! I also had their lavender lemonade mimosa which was very tasty! For dessert, we had one of their ENORMOUS chocolate chip cookies! They are fresh baked every hour so ours was warm and gooey, YUM!

We went on a Sunday and it was super crowded but the service was excellent. Our food came out in record time and everyone (both staff and patrons) were very friendly. I know that it says on the info "not good for kids," but I have a 7 month old that sat on my lap and had a fun time. There were also other children there who also seemed to be enjoying themselves. It is a very small place, so letting your children run loose all over the place screaming (which is something you shouldn't be doing at ANY restaurant,) is not a good idea here. I also didn't see any highchairs, but like I said, we took turns with our kiddo sitting on our lap and we did just fine.

Overall our experience was great and the next time we are in the area we will make sure to stop by. We were welcomed when we walked through the door and we were thanked on our way out. Excellent!

Hmmm...I dunno where I am on this review. It was a short experience so I suppose it will be a short review. To be honest, I had started off with 2-stars but again, the thing that sways me is service.

When a cafe does not have waiter service, I don't actually expect to be checked on. I'm on my own, in the dark jungle, survivor man style. Okay...dramatic but you know what I mean. Here, they will check with you to make sure everything is okay, more than just the one time!

The food is a different story. It's good (they use Semifreddi's!) but again, cafe forgettable. I had a tuna salad salad and my friend had the lasagna. I like vegetables in my tuna salad so if you are plano-tuna kind of person, you won't like this kind. Lots of veggies diced into the tuna salad. My friend said the lasagna was flat (literally). I think it was maybe 2 layers? He also made the comment that it was a bit too charred on the edges.

On to atmosphere! It's very welcoming inside. There are lots of tables and space. I've seen some reviews saying it is crowded. My experience was a Monday night at 6:30pm. There were plenty of seats available but again, it was a Monday night. Weekend afternoons are probably packed.

So...I'm a bit of a neat...shall I say freak? Our table had lots of nooks and crannies that had crumbs in them *shutters*. It's not cute when it's not an English muffin. For a place to make me feel like I could sit there for a couple of hours, I need to feel like I won't be getting up with something new stuck to me. Otherwise, the decor is fun and other, less obsessive people will be fine.

    Cheers The Grove Fillmore.

Lavender lemonade, fresh OJ, even their lattes are delicious. The food is pretty good as well, fresh and healthy, but nothing to rave about. Great place to get some work done or enjoy the sun when it peaks out from behind the clouds.

Looking for a cafe that's wildly overrated, both in terms of quality of food and service?  You've found it. This place looks awesome at first glance-cute, cozy and rustic.  But looks can be deceiving. I've been here multiple times and tried almost everything on the menu. Their selection is limited and while the food is ok, it's way overpriced. Even for Pac Heights.

But the mediocre food and high prices aren't even my biggest complaint. Rather, it's the service. To be fair, the staff was always really friendly and helpful. But the owner was down right rude. A couple of examples:

    1.  Don't dare bring a cup of coffee from one of the various coffee shops in the area with you while having breakfast here - unless you're looking to get scolded and shamed.  I get it. He'd prefer that we buy our coffee there. Which I'd absolutely consider, if their coffee didn't suck, which it does. You make me a latté as good as the Coffee Bean's, and I'll get my morning fix from you. Until then, I'll get my coffee wherever I want, and and simply go elsewhere for breakfast.

    2.  Ok, this is a San Francisco coffee shop right?  Set up specifically to invite people to grab a cup of coffee and relax, read a book, study, play one of the board games they offer.  So why then, am I being harassed when I plop myself down, plug in my laptop into one of the multiple outlets they offer for just this purpose, and study for a few hours while drinking the tea and munching on the sandwich and snacks I ordered. Oh, because apparently I wasn't ordering enough per hour to fulfill some unspoken quota.  And when I responded by listing the several things I had ordered and noted that I came there regularly for lunch and dinner, he snarled back at me about how if I didn't like it, I could leave.  Which I did.  And will never be back.

Came here for brunch on a Saturday with my friends and enjoyed the atmosphere of the place. There's also outside seating so people got to enjoy the sun which was awesome that day! While my oatmeal wasn't really that special, my friends seemed to enjoy their food.

However, I absolutely LOVED my chai! Enjoy!

I came here for a weekday lunch with my grandma.
As soon as we walked in, someone handed us menus. We had to wait a few minutes to find a table, but got nice seats by the window.
Our food- lasagna, chili, a chicken apple salad, and a decaf coffee. My chili was good, but had waay too much sour cream for my taste. My grandma said her lasgna was good, but a little salty. My salad was delish, I loved it. They also serve everythign with toasted bread- a nice bonus.
The staff is very friendly. The parking is a problem- meters all over!

Half way though a 10 hour shift and in search of a meal and caffeine, I came into the Grove Fillmore. Like almost every where else on Fillmore, the place was surprisingly packed for this hour in the morning. I think the interior well designed because you could easily get lost here, people watching or reading a book or just letting the time pass.

Looking for something with eggs, I opted for the BREAKFAST BURRITO and added chicken apple sausages for good measure. This thing was huge. Based on the gigantic size, I went with the knife and fork. Everything is mashed together in there but my one complaint would have been for more salsa.

AMERICANO for the coffee and I was all set to head back to my shift. Only I didn't for a while, as I sat and enjoyed the experience for a few extra minutes. There are plenty of items to order for breakfast, lunch and dinner.

Seating: hard to find when busy
Parking: can be pretty tough to find parking, and most are metered
Wait time: none when i was there

Could this place be any cuter?! When my friend told me we she was taking me to her favorite local coffee shop, I had no idea it would be so freaking adorable! True confession: When we got to the door, I literally squealed in delight and gave her a huge hug. Hey, it's the small things in life... right..?

Anyway, we weren't there for the food, unfortunately, but everything that everyone was eating looked so spectacular! Must come back and try the entire menu.

I ordered the house coffee, which was honestly nothing special, but my friend's iced coffee was delicious (and served in a tall, fancy glass), as were the cafe au lait and latte. Now I know!  The prices were also extremely reasonable - under 3 bucks each. We sat outside and thoroughly enjoyed the caffeine jolt and the people watching.

Just happened to stop by on a whim for my first (and not last) visit before a concert at the Fillmore. It was a little confusing at first but after placing our order and grabbing our table, we started to fall in love with the charm of the Grove. Our meals came quickly and I was impressed with the amount of food on the plate. Somehow, we finished both of our meals and even went back for dessert (and a 2nd beverage).

Really cool vibe, wifi was available, decent turnover so seating wasn't an issue, even at dinner time. Beers were a bit expensive, but still reasonable. The staff was really friendly and helpful.

I plan on going back before our next Fillmore concert. Really great experience.

Pretty much like the vibe at all the Groves around town.  The latest version off of Fillmore and Hayes is no exception, although it doesn't feel as "neighborhoody" and didn't have as many people when I was there.

The masala chai is delish and it's a great place to come for either food, beverages (caffeinated or alcoholic), working or just people-watching.

As I walked around the busy city, I walked into the door, and was all of a sudden transported to a cabin in the woods... but I looked outside and it was still the city! My inner hipster felt immediately at home and I could feel my mustache trying to grow out from under my nose...

I had the turkey club there. Thick slices of bacon. Awesome turkey.... but really those elements don't really stand out. what did stand out was the fresh bread used for the sandwich. I am not usually a bread person but MAN this bread made me happy.

My friends had a ginormous salad and a really good tomato soup.

It was the perfect place for lunch, and the next time i'm in the area, I'll be back there again. My inner hipster demands it.

I've tried this place three times now and it just won't grow on me.  It's always too crowded, the staff always gets it wrong, I have to fight for space and the food is overpriced and disappointing.  So frustrating!  The Grove has a great location and unique decor (but a crappy ambiance because of the overcrowding), it could be lovely if they made some improvements.

You know that Harry Potter scene where they enter what looks to be a small tent but turns out to be this ridiculously spacious house? That's The Grove. There's a small little entrance on the busy street with some cute outdoor seating, and when you walk in it appear to be a ridiculously spacious cabin! They have many different types of seating here from tables and chairs to couches etc.

The decor here is simply amazing and home-y feeling. Their menu is super diverse and is written in the cutest font! They have a separate menu for dinner which is available from 4 pm to closing.

I ended up getting their breakfast burrito. It comes with beans, avocado, eggs and potatoes. The best thing about this burrito was the rosemary! They put plenty of it in so it tastes absolutely divine. Their orange juice is nothing short of fresh squeezed either. It's like you're drinking it straight from the orange.

Service here was fast and the waiters were all very courteous and kind. Great place to grab brunch with a friend on a casual day. It's not so much a restaurant setting as you have to wait in line to order and then sit and wait for your food to be ordered, but definitely a great place to just sit with your computer and latte :)

    Three and a half maybe?

I like this place fine; it's spot on the quaint part of Fillmore, tasty and varied menu (I tried the french toast today, good but I'll roll the dice with something else next time), and a lot of fun seating - I'd visit again.

It's quasi laptop friendly, no visible outlets but they'll give you wifi based on how much you spend on food (was told 30 min per $5 spent, not sure how they're enforcing that).

The music is playing so loudly that I can barely concentrate on work, I suggest bringing earphones if you plan to focus on something, or sit outside if weather permits, or just work on something fun, like write yelp reviews...

The Grove on Fillmore, I heart you...

So it's been a few years since I last came to this location, but the ambiance and character of this cafe has never changed. So let me tell you about the tid-bits.

The Atmosphere:  Cozy, welcoming and there's always something interesting to look at (either if you're people watching or checking out the random things that are in this place.)  Probably a good place for any kind of date that deals with brunch and a cocktail on the flip side coffee and a pastry. If you plan on meeting someone here, PERFECT, there's actually a really nice waiting area/living room type of area with couches, pretty smart if you ask me.  But  today my friend and I decided to have brunch and a mimosa outside in the beautiful sun.

The Food:  Breakfast is served until 4pm...if you ask me, The Eggs Florentine "Dave's Way" has to be the best Florentine in SF, hands down. But if you look around their famous breakfast burrito is in competition with the Florentine.

The Service:  Gotta love it.  The staff here is knowledgable and upbeat, prompt and attentive.  I'd definitely come here time and time again.

The Grove, YOU ARE THE BUSINESS!

While the cliente is very much in accordance with what you'd expect to find on this part of Fillmore, it can range in degree of bougy and pretentiousness, depending on when you go.

I really like the decor and ambiance that they created, mixing larger tables with couches and a fire place to create a sort of wooden lodge feel that adds to the whole experience.

I find the food to be delicious but have to admit that it is over priced. One of my personal favorites is the Berkeley Bowl.

I always pass by this place during my morning runs...so I've always wanted to try this place out. It looks busy, especially during lunch on any given sunny day in the city. People sitting outside, chatting, getting some sun while they dine on salad + dish.

One day I decided...I wanna sit outside, maybe get a little tan, and enjoy my lunch like those people too! So roomies and I went to The Grove for lunch. It's open seating, so at peak times snag a table and give some money to your friends so they can order for you while you save some good seats. Got to sit outside! Just like how I pictured it. Tried the Steak Florentine which comes with chips. Thin, juicy pieces of meat along with some greens inside the sandwich. Nothing spectacular but it wasn't bad at all.

Overall: 3.5 rounded up to 4. Nothing spectacular. Just a place to get some food (sandwich & salad kind of fare) and enjoy the sun in a nice neighborhood.

Food seems to be good, but place gets way too crowded and loud. I could barely hear what the person next to me was saying. Especially, if you go on a Friday or Saturday night, it takes a while for them to get your order. I waited for like 30 minutes but none of the staff noticed to take my order.

I am more of a quiet place guy, so all the noise, music, and crowded space doesn't really suit me that well.

A friend took me to the Grove awhile back for lunch, its a pretty cozy spot on the Fillmore which provided outdoor patio and indoor seating. I couldnt say much for this place when all I ordered was a pot of tea and a salad.

Any place can make a salad, but its the uniquness of what they put into a salad to give you a good taste is the different twist to it. But the Grove was just a typical place to grab fresh made salad thats just give the right portion and decent price for the area.

Tons of choices for tea, something for the tea lovers to come by to try and people watch on a warm and nice day.

I really like the atmosphere here.  Very cozy, nice warm colors and decor.  You can go for just coffee, brunch, lunch or dinner.  Really nice option for everything you want to do!

My friend from Las Vegas kept making note of the great service by the staff, each time they would show it.  I was focusing on the food, she happen to notice the table next to us was wobbling and so one of the staff members came and fixed the table for them.  For them to even notice, that's pretty great service.  We also had a manager come over to greet us and ask us how our food was...at this cafe!  It's only a cafe!  It's not fine dining, which is typically where this type of service happens...see...this is a really awesome place!

Oh and...the French Toast is awesome here!  Best during my trip!

Solid food, good atmosphere, and good locations. I just wish the desserts were geared more for the adult taste, they are just a little too sweet.

Great place. After always walking by - I finally stopped in on Saturday October 29th, 2011 - and was greeted by a full highly attractive crowd (I honestly did not see one person with below average looks).

We ordered the Berkeley Bagel - which was $6.50 which was quite tasty with the hummus spread - not a super filling portion but tasty; a slice of Cranberry Apple Pie which was quite tasty for $4.95 and a pear cider which $16.65 for all three items. Took roughly 15 minutes from order to recieving our items - which was pretty fast with every seat in the place nearly taken.

Great outdoor patio - place was packed with great energy. My only complaint was the price of Wifi - $5 for 30 minutes, but I understand the reason for the charge.

Great place for food & drink and people watch.  Always crowded - does anyone work??! lol!  Tough to get a seat which is a bummer.

Love that there are breakfast like options available all the time.  i enjoyed Raul's Bagel - scrambled eggs, melted American cheese and thick-sliced bacon.  Yum yum.

I went for breakfast with a couple of colleagues. Great decor. Great food. Friendly and accommodating staff.

The bloody mary's come in huge pilsner glasses. The freeze squeezed orange juice comes in the same type of glass.

The latte's come in monstrosities just shy of a bowl.

The decor is rustic with old leather chairs, exposed wooden beams in the ceiling, raw wooden floors with metal spikes instead of nails & vintage metal signage on the walls. There is also outside seating with a small booth type feel right on the sidewalk.

Huevos florentine is a great go-to.

I'd make this a staple stop in my morning routine if I lived close by.

This has become one of my favorite brunch spots!!!
Fresh and delicious food - everything I've tried has been very good.  I've only had breakfast food here and a couple of the dessert (made in-house).  The carrot cake was fantastic!!
Coffee is tasty and very fresh.  Freshly squeezed OJ - yum!!  Bloody Mary is a bit on the weaker side and not very spicy.
Random and fun decor inside.  Cute wooden tables/benches outside.
The place gets pretty busy late mornings, so be prepared to wait in line and hunt for an open table.
