I am soooo full!
The bf's idea to go for Greek, very bizzare but I am thankful. We had planned to go to Athens, but because of the holiday it was closed. As was most of the restaurants on my beloved Quinpool road. I had been meaning to try out GV for some time now, and now I can say I have.
We had the Dolmades to start, let me begin by saying that I never pass up dolmades, I absolutely adore them. It was no different at GV. I find most places serve them cold, GV serves them hot and they were very tasty.
I had Mousaka for my main, and it was very very good. Creamy goodness, accompanied by greek salad, roasted potatoes and rice. All were pretty damn delicious. The bf had Chicken Souvlaki, a new fave of his. He too enjoyed his meal.
Our server was great, she informed us that because of the holiday they were short staffed and that it may take some time for our meals to appear. It was nice to have the honesty right from the beginning so we could expect a wait. It actually didn't take that long at all.
Next time, we'll be in for breaky. -

The Greek Village was quite a disappointment. We stopped in for an early supper on a Saturday afternoon and the place was almost empty, so we were seen to promptly. it all kind of went downhill after that.
Considering that there were only three other occupied tables in the place, we waited over a half hour for our food to appear, which was quite a long wait. Our server was fantastic, though, very friendly and professional.
Everything we ordered was bland and greasy. I ordered the lamb souvlaki pita and a side Greek salad. The salad was limp and the lettuce was literally floating in oil. The souvlaki pita was the strangest thing- the lamb was cooked to perfection, but the pita bread was dry and coated in diced tomato and raw white onion.
My son had the chicken fingers and fries. The whole meal was just grease, I'm not sure if their deep fryer needed fresh oil or just wasn't hot enough, but it was just so unappealing sitting there on the plate.
My husband ordered the club which he was quite happy with and the potato skins. The potato skins were topped with all kinds of great stuff like sliced black olives, tomatoes, onions and cheese- in truth they were more like nachos than typical potato skins. It was a shame that again, the skins were so greasy.
With so many other really great Greek restaurants in town, I don't think well be going back to the Greek Village. -

I have frequented here on a few occasions on the morning after a few drinks and I have to say its just what the doctor ordered!
A couple times in going I have been disappointed with the lack of time (I once waited almost an hour just for my food)
But over all I will still go back. Maybe its because its nice sometimes to eat food you know someone actually cooked themselves. Or that its a family owned place you really want to root for.
I'd reccomend breakfast there anytime! -

Greek village is one of those places you WANT to do well. Family-run type restaurant and I have never had an unpleasant server
We have been greek village breakfast eaters for years, with sporadic visits at supper. Currently we love their $14 bucket of beer and small pizza deal!
The food is classic greek dishes with heaping platefuls that won't leave you hungry. -

Sorry for doing this Halifax but this place blows.
The food is greasy. I know, not a secret however, there is no chance in hell a single thing at this place is healthy. From the salad to a 'roasted' vegetable dish it was just grease everywhere.
The service was good although my friend (for the first time ever)had to send back her meal as it was disgusting. But the server still tried to charge her for the meal. We did get this sorted with the cashier but we would have liked to avoid the situation all together as it obviously made us both uncomfortable.
My friend said this place is great for Breakfast but I'm advising you to avoid at all costs when it comes to Greek Entrees. Also true enough, the pitchers were cheap at $10.99.
Yuck. -

I frequented the Greek Village on weekends when I was a College student in Halifax - over a year and a half span (sport time period for college cuz' it was grad school duh guys).
The breakfast here is great AND very low-priced. I recall 4.95$ breakfast specials that included unlimited coffee. The food is good quality and fresh. I can't recall a bad experience here.
Also - very nice staff - friendly service - easily my favourite breakfast spot in all of Halifax.
Oh! also - try their haloumi cheese. It's ridiculous (In a GOOD way). -

Really really great breakfast!!!
The restaurant is very cute and the staff is incredibly friendly and helpful.
I had the fish cakes plate which was amazing! They were freshly made fishcakes which were fried to a golden brown.......delicious!! The eggs and potatoes were perfectly cooked and well seasoned. I loved it all!!
My bf had the home made corned beef has which he enjoyed but he really preferred the fish cake on the side.
Super cheap for a fantastic breakfast! Good coffee, great service and awesome food!! I will be back!Listed in: O'Canada

The Greek Village is one of the favourites for the neighbourhood. It has the home appeal, no piazzas but will give you a great meal.
The staff will put you at ease, the food will lift the spirits and the prices will help your pocket book.
If you are looking for an all day breakfast, you can get it here. You will also get a cold one for pretty cheap, Moosehead $2.95. -

I started going to this place constantly after it switched from the The Greek House a few years ago.
Heather and Stefano are both friendly and make sure you're happy.
95% of the time I get the bacon-eggs-coffee breakfast special for under 6 bucks. It's almost always great. Especially when you're hung over.
Dinner is actually really good, too- my favorite is either the cabbage rolls or halibut fillet.
BEER is really cheap also. For the longest time it was 9.75 for a pitcher of Keith's. I think it may be 10.50 now. STILL good.

There are 101 restaurants in Halifax just like The Greek Village, but this little family run business flourishes, with bustling brunches and busy late day breakfast indulgences.
I have always found the food at this tiny establishment to fall within the category of mediocrity, yet the atmosphere draws me in with its old diner charm. At the same time, this so-so quality is sometimes just what the doctor ordered, especially when it comes to greasy spoon meals after a late night on the town.
I don't normally choose The Greek Village if there are other options available to me, but every now and then I find myself here. I don't love it, I don't hate it - but simply accept it for what it is: cheap and greasy fare, served up in ample portions to the hungry masses. -

I too frequented this place when I was a student. I don't know what happened since then but woah. The place has gone downhill. Breakfast was not nearly as good as it used to be. Food was meh, service was meh. It hurts me to say this but I won't go back there again unless something drastic happens.

The Greek Village is a great supporter of my Sunday brunch (and breakfast in general) obsession. It is one of the most convenient places to eat, it has a small diner feel and a high customer turn over rate. It serves it's purpose well, which is a small place to grab a quick bite to eat. Crowds of more than 4-5 people would probably think twice about coming to eat here, unless you call to book in advance.
Even though serving breakfast until 5pm doesn't technically count as all day, The Greek Village certainly goes beyond most little places in this city. Like their breakfast policy, the staff at the Greek Village are very accommodating. While it can take a while to get a seat, and the dining room is crowded, it's always easy to flag someone down for a coffee refill.
Hot Hint: Check out the Breakfast card club, after 10 breakfasts purchased you will get a $5.29 discount on your next breakfast (which is the price of a full breakfast special). -

We stopped in here for breakfast to kick off 2010. If every breakfast I have this year is even half as good then I am in for a great year.
The food here is cheap and tasty, the staff are incredibly friendly and the wait times are short. I had the Stefano Plate (the big breakfast) and left full and content.
I noticed they had a really great deal promoted on the chalk board above my table: 12.95 for a pitcher of Moosehead and a serving of tsatzki, hummus or calamari. Not a bad deal at all! I will be certain to return for this special some evening on the walk home from work.
The one negative aspect (and the only thing stopping me from giving The Greek Village 5 stars) is that they charge a P.O.S. fee for debit payments. I rarely carry paper money on my person, so being told I have to pay more money to pay for my meal will always rub me the wrong way.
Trick me and work the fee into your prices and I'll be fine, until then, a strong four stars. Pop in for breakfast next time you're strolling down Quinpool in the am. -

This tiny restaurant is showing it's age, on the outside. And while it does look a little frumpy, the food - served by family is inexpensive and home style. No pretensions, no fancy, chichi trendiness, just honest to goodness meals that remind me of Greek neighborhoods in Toronto and Montreal.
Truthfully my favorite meal is still their breakfasts - served until 5 pm. Think of your favorite diner breakfast and you know what I'm talking about. -

This place was hopping when we stopped in for brunch, half because of an event just ending but half because of devoted local residents, it seemed. All portions served to us were huge, so keep that in mind as you order. In fact it was hard to find something that looked light enough for the appetite I had. The hugeness did not mean our meals were expensive either, so if you're into big and cheap - check this ish out. As for the food... The meal I had was pretty good, a fatty plate full of spanikopita. Nothing too crazy tasty, but good enough. I like that this place has a greasy-spoon diner slash Greek thing going on. Very... multicultural.
