Even after fully acknowledging that this is a student bar I can still describe it in only one word: Awful!
The prices seem reasonable... until you get your meal. In my case that meal was lunch; Chicken Caesar Wrap and Fries. Having worked in restaurants of varying quality for several years I know how very little goes into a meal of this kind. To my surprise they failed at even this simple order. The wrap was... well it was a wrap. Just a wrap. A big tasteless wrap with a piece of lettuce in it, a piece of processed chicken and there may have been dressing... I can't be sure. The only way to mess up fries is to give only 10 of them. My dining companion ordered a burger that resembled a McDonalds patty that featured more than one crunchy bone ground into the cheap grey meat. (We joked that surely the Grawood is the reason the Student Health Plan must include Dental). I wanted so much to like the Grawood, more classes need to start with a few reasonably priced beers and a warm meal. However, my reasonably priced beer was ruined by my pitiful meal and the quality of food leaves much to wonder about the actual "value" of your meal; it is not the deal it seems.
The service was no better than the meal. The server was amicable, though not friendly and seemed to be rather frazzled considering we were one of only two groups in the dining room. He forgot our gravy, a problem that we didn't bother to have rectified, and took about 15 minutes to retrieve 2 pints... Did I mention we were one of only two groups in the dining room!?
If I return, it will be for beer, but with Spring Garden only blocks from campus I can't ever see that happening.
*I didn't decide to sign up for Yelp to give bad reviews... That's how terrible the Grawood is.
